      Regardless, the "roughest stuff" as the original comment stated is not dirt roads and medium tracks, even at high altitudes.
      Take one of these up many of the more difficult tracks here in Victoria, and they find it more difficult than many of their competitors, due to a lack of ground clearance and wheel size/ articulation. As I said, they're good overlanders - but they are rubbish rock crawlers. This is not a bad thing: they are designed for a purpose, and they do that very well. I was countering the hyperbole of the original comment.

    Active safety is overhyped. Lots of people switch them off when they can, especially lane keeping assist. There are lots of vehicles on the road that don’t have these, and are typically included in high end or higher trim vehicles only. Doesn’t make the vehicles that don’t have the unsafe, as long as they are well built and pass crash tests. The reviewer seems biased towards them. There's a big difference in the Australian market. A Jimny is a lot smaller, and priced much lower - the rivals mentioned here are in the same segment and represent some of the biggest sellers within the large SUV segment, hence using them as a benchmark. South Africa has very different vehicles available to it, in both price and positioning so isn't always analogous with what's sold here.

  • @badbusdriver7160
    @badbusdriver7160 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Refreshingly unpretentious review when so many video reviewers seem to be pushing their own personalities at the expense of the usefulness of the car review. I don't have much vested interest in the Mahindra as we don't have the brand in the UK where I am, but I do like it!.
    Strikes me that the car is more flawed as a 6/7 seater than it would be as a 5 seater though, which makes me wonder why it has 3 rows of seats (is that a deal breaker in Australia?). If the 3rd row could be folded right out of the way under the floor, or be easily removed, it would probably be worth having them "just in case". But it seems that the Scorpio isn't big enough for a 3rd row, so should just have a rear bench along with a much bigger boot.
    The passive safety I'm in two minds about. Yes it is useful to have, but at the same time it does rather allow drivers to, not be concentrating on driving as much as they should, be knowing that the car will bail them out. Here in the UK, the Dacia brand has been criticised for a similar lack of passive safety features, and fares poorly in Euro Ncap crash tests because of this. But Dacia have deliberately done this to keep the prices low and in the event of an accident, they certainly seem to hold up fine.

    In India this cost a little less than $30800 direct conversion for the top end model. This price makes it very lucrative, but in the end it's own sibling xuv700 is a better option.

    Absolutely INCORRECT about the "diff lock" 🤦 It does NOT have an auto locking differential. What it has is a BLD (Brake Lock Differential) system which does NOT lock any differential. It just brakes the slipping wheel, and then the power goes to the other wheel. That's it. The actual differential is never locked. The Fortuner and Everest come with an electronic (not automaric) diff lock that you have to engage by pressing the diff lock button. Please reaearch a bit before making such videos.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, just to clarify, Australian-delivered Scorpios are equipped with an auto-locking differential, but this unit can also operate as a brake-locking differential depending on the operating conditions. There is mechanical locking capability, however it's only auto-engaged with no driver engaged manual lock.
