Testing out the CCI Quiet Segmented at 50 yards vs a simulated zombie skull. Results were....not what I expected.

Standard velocity CCI for the win. It's subsonic without being labeled subsonic and much faster than the quiet.

Any 22LR ammo labeled Standard or Target is subsonic. No need for special subsonic ammo. Solid or HP and the bullet weight,( Some subsonic up to 60 grns, better penetration for between the eyes or behing the ear for bigger game) the only diff. And dont't forget 22 Short. Quite fast as well

It seems your first two shots were glancing shots, with the second hitting the roll of tape first. The hardness and toughness of a mature coconut like that is certainly stronger than the skull.
A young coconut has more the thickness and toughness of bone. You can find those at Asian markets rather than American grocery stores.
I appreciate you put up the “failure”, and any situation with any weapon can have undesired results.
I’d like to see a retest with either a better coconut selection or a ballistic zombie model.

40 grain SV or 45 grain subsonic. I would only choose the Quiet if I did not have a suppressor and not a segmented.

I've always considered that ammo "gamer ammo" for shooting steel up close (r) than ammo that may bounce back off steel. I left my daughters to die on the backs, belly's and breast of their mothers because I predicted the apocalypse in 1984 and wanted to limit the number of zombies and I'm a conservationist at heart trying to save the world from humanity. Oh and a long barreled bolt gun would be a better choice....or a pistol. Sweet CZ btw.

You could have just thrown a hatchet across the parking lot, maybe employed a bladed arrow.
But for everything else, there's a CCI .22LR 45 grain LHP Suppressor doing 970 fps. I think the segmented round fracturing upon impact prevented it from reaching full penetration capability before cracking apart.

.22 LR is a great assassin's round....at contact range from a pistol. This is a great example of the limitations of low-velocity low-mass frangible rounds at rifle distances.

You fell short on it's capabilities. A 22LR at subsonic speed and a supressor( Target ammo perfect) is very quiet and very capable to 50 yds. But it's quite capable for big game if you shoot under 100 yds and hit where it counts, Between the eyes, behind the ear. Amongst others have shot 400 Lbs rogge cattle between the eyes at 40 yds and lights out

We have done tests with the regular LRN Quiet on various targets at 30 yards. It will do the job, and it might work at 50 yards too. We did not test the segmented Quiet which is designed as a small varmint round. The Remington Subsonic is a bit faster (1050 FPS) with a 40 grain hollow point bullet, but a bit louder. It should be more accurate at 50 yards than the CCI Quiet.

I have not been impressed with fragmented .22 bullets at all. Very little penetration.
I will stay with Federal Punch and not worry about how quiet it is.

Surprised you didn't use Winchester SuperX 40 grain hypervelocity hollow point. You earlier determined it was the hardest hitting .22lr at up to 1487 fps. I think it has the best chance?

I load tested the cci stinger segmented hollow points in my CZ 452 ultralux. Five shot group was under a half inch at 50 yards. I need to try them on small game. I’m sure they would be wicked. Bought them a few years ago from Sportman’s Guide. Haven’t found any since.

I shot through a roll of aluminum siding the segmented stinger. They passed through all of the coils and didn’t start segmenting with the 1640 fps version till it went through about 20 plus layers. I think the stinger version would rock the coconut! Can you hear me chanting….Re
