Here we have 45 dirt bike tips, trick, and hacks that will save you money, time, and headaches. What more could you want? Obviously this list is not ALL of the hacks that exist. It’s the just the ones that popped into my head and I wrote down on my while board while I was brainstorming in my dirt bike shop a few days ago. These are all things that I use to make my life easier as it relates to riding and working on bikes. Of course, I know there are many more, so maybe we'll make a follow up video later. I just had to stop somewhere. I've got some little bonus ones in there too. Enjoy!
Let me know what some of your favorite tips and tricks are down in the comments.

I noticed that this video already has dislikes before it's even live. That makes me smile. You've got to admit that is pretty funny.
Dirt Bike Channel that’s probably because those premiere things are enjoying. You think the video is already online so you click on it but it is just a premiere thing. Those people who disliked were probably just annoyed because they couldn’t watch te video.

That WD-40 is NOT a chain lube, it’s a all in one spray. So it also does DEgreas your chain.
Fortnine has two good videos on chain lubes and cleaners. Recommends using simple green and a light (20w-50 IIRC) gear oil for cleaning then lubing. Simple green cleans without penetrating the seals that trap grease on the bushings, and gear oil penetrates and protects from rust well, however it picks up more contaminants during a ride than a PTFE dry lube.
Man I just treat my chain like it owes me money and I get to go to dinner early not screwing around with cleaning it
@@PapaWheelie1 mannn thats a whole mood!!
Yeah WD40 washes away the lube, dries out, and leaves a sticky layer that collects abrasive dirt and sand.

Love the energy of this video! Makes it feel like I learned a whole lot in like 4 or 5 minutes.
Extra tips for you to add since this epic video can only get better. Sorry if you know these already. 1. When pulling a broken down bike with another other bike wrap the strap around the handle bars and instead of tying a knot hold the end on the grip...release your hand and the wrap unwinds nicely and safely. 2. Putting some air in a tube before mounting the tire does wonders for not pinching tubes. 3. Short people have a tougher time lifting a bike onto a stand...they want to lean the bike farther over before lifting and use the thigh of one of their legs to help lift. 3. The most popular tires are worthless in soft dirt...can't make a hill climb and get a IRC MB5...rides well on trails and will amaze everyone on the climbs and doesn't wear quickly. 4. You probably know now but hoses exist to screw into oil plug for quick draining. 5. When mounting a rear tire sit on the ground straddling the swing arms from the rear. Your legs work miracles for holding up the wheel while you finagle it on hoping the spacers won't pop out. 6. Tusk makes spacers that are smooth and don't pop off easily when mounting the year tire. 7. Cushion seats are amazing now...some performance lost but great on trail breaking bumps. 8. High compression radiator caps for technical slow riding. 9. Don't forget to turn bike on after filling full of oil because oil filter takes up a lot of oil and you will need to add more. 10. Make sure electrical components like starter relay aren't jiggling around because electrical parts don't like such things. I replaced my battery with an oversized one and therefore relay needed taping down after I realized the seat wasn't holding everything in place. Got to go, but hope that helps you add content. I have many more weird tips if you want...just ask.
Been riding for 35 years and still learned some tricks, thank's man!
Even if you have a ton of experience, its always good to watch these types of videos to pickup new tricks or just remember old ones you forgot about. 👍 lol love the outtakes
Im from South Africa, 51 years old, and just got my first KTM 350 EXC-F, Thanks for all the tips.
Swing arm covers damage your finish more than they save. Remove and clean under them often or just put decals on. Make sure to ride your brakes and glaze the pads up good so they don't work good. Several aggressive stops letting them cool in-between is the correct way. Oh, use chain lube. Otherwise, do what he said.
You just got a new patron. As a new rider I cant thank you enough for all of your content! The unknown is becoming less scary.
Kyle, your vids are not only informative but also funny. I appreciate you showing the bloopers, they were very funny. Pls show more of them on each video
they are a lot of work, and usually I'm just ready to be done :)
Kyle from experience put your bar mounts back into the rear two holes on the Yamaha, it kills the handling, makes the bike steer way too quick and knifey in the front holes. Trust me on this 👍
I am categorizing this one as the SUPER-VID, the mother of all dirt bike hack videos. Thank you, Kyle, extremely well done!
Hi Kyle,
I know shops and dealerships HATE when they have to change a tire with slime tire sealant in it but I feel just the opposite.
Actually got the tip from the guys over at Tubliss to use Slime as a lubricant when mounting a new tire.
I "paint" the high pressure tube and inside of my tires with Slime before install. Everything slips into place easily and cleans up with water. A few ounces in the low pressure chamber afterwards keeps everything lured inside to prevent friction and flats.
I was always told NOT to use standard WD40 on a chain because it's a degreaser not a lubricant. Maybe you can clarify?
Love your channel. Makes me happy every time I buy a product using your links (which is way too often!) That I can help support you and your family.
Keep up the good work and the outtakes at the end!!!
J
Basically WD 40 helps give temporary lubricant to the O-Rings. It won’t harm the rubber. I use Chain Wax directly on each ring, but WD 40 works and is also good because you can spray the whole chain and wipe off the excess with a rag. WD 40 can also be used for a chain cleaner.
Awesome fast pace. How long until we hear the review and update about the Yamaha? I know a lot of us are surprised to see it. Love it keep em coming!!
I'll have some TH-cam content on it next week. Posted on IG and FB yesterday on the bike
Some good Tips, THX for that! One thing to complain: please don't use Baby Powder to prevent Snake bites, take Talkum powder! And Grease is no good, because it will dry out soon or, for the worst, it may damage the Rubber of the tube. After all, I use only Mousse and the troubles are totally gone.
Greets
Perfect pace for this kind of video! Well done. I watched to the end and didn't skip ahead or sigh once. :) Thanks Kyle.
Wow...been riding for years and still learned 44.5 things, :) Thanks guys!
Dude! That is LOTS of wisdom! I've been wrenching for 30 yrs and just picked up a few more tips! So I thank you, and I urge people to SUBSCRIBE to what homeboy is spit'n. I'm keeping this one for a check list.
Here's a tip for YOU - Get a Brush/Crash Guard that bolts into the bar end. It will protect everything in the whole control group on both sides. The one you are using will flex out of the way and is very short which allows everything to contact the ground before the guard (see 0.44). The full protector will save a lot of damage to controls. It will also brush away stuff that could get caught between between your brush guard and control group, as well as actually protect parts of your hand from brush hits, because it is so far away from the end of your hand.
Your short Guard is also the reason for some of your tips.
Chain lube - WD-40 is good. It comes off easily also when cleaning - taking dirt with it. However a DRY LUBE doesn't sling off. I use Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant, works great.
Like the outtakes at the end , that’s me alright many takes 😂 Some nice bits like the stainless swing arm guard fasteners 🤔 Have you seen my 300 build😬👍🏻
"ride it around the bruh"
Great tips. Lots of "why didn't I think of that" stuff.
A favorite thing I do is use an electric leaf blower to dry out the nooks and crannies after washing. Then hit it with the SC1 as Kyle mentioned.
A tip about brakes after a wheel/ tire change. Your brakes will be VERY weak for the first few times you hit them. Sort of like bedding in the new brakes
Good tips I'm not putting silicone on my chain slider though
Loving the outtakes at the end :) thumbs up. Watching from the UK.
That new Yamaha 250 is looking nice, hope to see some videos of the beast soon :D
Soon. I posted in IG about it yesterday.
The tip on steering head bearing tension is still wrong kyle. Adding the caption to release the fork clamps is some of the correction, but the tension is not obtained from the bolt on the top of the triple clamp. It is obtained by adjusting the two collar nuts that lock together under the top clamp....🙄. Crank as much tension as you like on the nut or bolt on top of the top clamp, you are only tightening it against those two locking collar nuts. The bearings are under those...
Three more:
1. Cut 1/2" off each end of your handle-bars to allow more clearance in tight single-track wooded trails; you won't miss the length, but you will clear more trees.
2. Apply a moderate amount of hair-spray to the inside of new handlebar grips before pushing them on the bar ends; it allows them go on easier, straighter, and it sets quickly.
3. Put three-wraps of safety-wire (spaced evenly) around each handlebar grip, and tuck the twisted-end down into grip; good insurance to keep your grips from coming off.
-Mack
.
I hate the safety wire hack, makes for an uncomfortable grip
@@Andrew-vz3qk odi lock on grips are the way to go

The bloopers at the end explain how difficult it really is to make videos like this. Good job man, keep up the great work!
Awesome again! Should do a fast pace riding tips and tricks one of these days. Something we can watch right before we go riding to remind us of all the stuff to think about to make us a little better that day. Thanks again Kyle for kicking ass.
The end of the video is magic. Just when we thought you were a robot the truth comes out! Either that or your firmware needs updated :) It reminds me of every instructional video I've started but never followed through with.
Wow Kyle thats a video every dirt bike owner should watch
Just took the MSF Dirt Bike School course. And with your hacks, I'm really ready to get out there!
I love the bloopers! Great video and better info, I was surprised at all the tips I didn't know!
The struggle IS real brother! Those are fantastic tips! Subbed and saved this vid to my maintenance playlist!
Best tip video of all time! No joke. Thank you
Just got myself a 2020 yz250fx.. my last bike was a 2017 yz450f and it was great in open terrain but like fighting a bear in tight stuff. Look forward to the review on that I have about a month of snow melting before I can ride. Always had big bore bikes and this channel is why I dropped down to a 250f.. I'm no travis pastrana lol
Armor all original is great for cleaning seats
Kyle, Your tip (#34) to install the carb slide spring is brilliant! Some of the smaller carbs are a real pain and this was an excellent tip that I'll use sometime in the future.
Really liked the handle on the seat idea
Honda pro chain lube with moly. Best stuff I’ve ever used.
Kyle, I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago and I have to say "Thank You!"
I have become a #1 FAN. Thank you for the awesome tips and your videos.
Great tips video! One more tip iv'e heard is to hit the spokes inside the hub to make sure they set alot better when they are new
Because they usally have some edges that catches the sides and when you hit the spokes they set down alot more in the rim.
very nice tips thank you! and props for showing fails at the end cuz many people think its easy to make content and record everything in 1st try..👍
Man were those bloopers ever funny😆 shows how much time is put into these videos
Love all the tips.. I'll have to bookmark this for sure as I'll never remember them all. Bloopers were great as well. Glad its not just me that has to record things a few times.
Hi there are a lot of French people looking at you which I would love if you could put the subtitles in French continue what you are doing you make us dream
Now my brain has seized
Might have to watch 200 more times in the future
Great vid! I miss Will’s coaching! He is a lot of fun and amazing to watch hitting the table-tops in a CRF125F! Hope to see you guys soon, and love the merchandise!
Just a friendly tip for tubes, you can install tube inflate it a little and then install the tire and tube on the rim using liquid wrench silicone spray
Great vid.... I got a couple of good tips and Ive been on dirt bikes for 33 years
Tighten every 3rd spoke, and go around the wheel 3 times hitting every spoke and not pulling wheel out of alignment. ;)
that is a great tip. dont want to be trying to take the wobbles out of the wheel
Need this in a pdf document! Great vid
This is awesome! Thank you so much. I didn’t anticipate so many of these to be so relevant and helpful.
Happy to see you got a 2020 YZ250FX! I can’t wait to see some videos on this bike, after years of being away from riding I just bought a new 20 FX. I’m in Indiana and won’t be able to ride it for a couple more months so I can at least see you ride it😆
the grab strap is my fav, bikes USED to have a frame loop at the back to grab, now all you have is plastic fender. Going to make a strap that uses the seat mount bolts for mine, that is a great idea.
I just ordered one of those drifters products flexible funnels. Those look super useful to drain coolant on my 250x without having to take off my skid plate. Thanks for showing that Kyle.
You are welcome
Hahahaha! Loved the bloopers at the end. Keepin' it real. Awesome.
@Telegram me @👉Dirtbikechannel I don't have Telegram.
All good tips , as soon as the snow melts I will be working on these skills . Thanks
beyond exc video. keep them coming thanks DBC
I know the struggle of getting the correct words out when talking to a camera 🤣 awesome video, some great tips in there!!
Love the videos you put up on maintanance and tricks like these! Already subscribed! I’m new to the enduro lifestyle and already learned so much to do on my own. Spares me a lot of unnecessary expenses at the repair shop. - keep up the good work! Greetings from Germany
Thank you for putting this together, very helpful!
I appreciate all that you do for us dirt bike lovers, good video
Another thing to add, especially for new riders, is that an owners manual and service manual are two different things. And that service manuals have everything you need to know.
Speaking of WD40, I just used it to fix squeaky kickstand and foot peg pivots. Would’ve been better to go with grease I’m sure, but it sure was satisfying to get that smooth motion back with a quick spray.
One thing I would add to the list is to periodically check the torque on bolts, especially for anything that connects to the frame. I always even torque on my seat bolts to spec after changing my air filter (yz250x) for example. Anything connected to the frame will affect how the bike handles feels, so torquing bolts correctly can be critical to maximizing safety, comfort, and performance.
Great hacks video! Thank you for all these pointers. They are very helpful.
I love me some tacky air filter oil. I knead it!
Another Yz!! That blue looks fine in your shop!!
It's awesome too!
@@DirtBikeChannel a 2020 250fx? Looks fantastic!
Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Ok you could of told me about threading the spring onto the throttle cable BEFORE I spent countless hours adjusting jets. But in all seriousness awesome tips! Love your videos 😁
Wd-40 is a water displacement not a lubricant
Great tips! Some I knew and forgot about and some I never heard of. Just remember Kyle, there's always going to be jealousy out there, especially the more subscribers you get!
After you apply the oil to the filter through and through, use paper towels and squeeze as much of the oil out of the filter as you can, (until no almost more oil color is transferred on the clean white towels). If the open cells of the filter are full of oil, the filter won't breath there. This will block all dirt if you stay out of water. Water is the only thing that will carry dirt though a open cell filter. Your bike will run better and your jetting will be more consistent, (too much oil, and you run a bit rich, for example).
I wonder if I can be a paid consultant for some of these channels? :)
Just when I thought I knew everything! Thanks so much.
Carb spring tip. Priceless 👍
Damn that was a lot of information coming at me very fast, think I got some stuff locked down. Good job man!

Just remember if your not falling your not having fun 😁
after watching your last video, I don't feel comfortable to tell people "i ride dirt bike"! But I think ok to say I watch dirt bike videos.
You mean the stairway to heaven vid? Just got to show a little bit of the Gnar we do. Most of it never makes it to youtube.
0:40 I could've used that a few months ago when my used to be friend slid and landed on the clutch and it broke. That wasn't a very good night because we eventually got into a fight because of reasons not related to the bike breaking. Great video!
Thank you Kyle!! Love you channel!! I spoke with you on the phone last year about my top end on my cr. I had to wait all year until my taxes came In Again to buy the new jug and piston kit. But I'm happy to say I bought a new jug and installed the new piston kit! Unfortunately now my son's kx60 that he has had under a month needs a new piston kit. It just all the sudden started knocking real bad. So I killed the bike hoping the jug was not scored!! I now know I can do his top end, I'm just hoping i can get his $60 piston kit ordered this week!! He rode a crf70 all last year as my bike set, i think when i told him i ordered the parts to fix my cr he was more excited than the day he got his first bike. It stinks as soon as i get back on a bike to ride with him, his goes down!! Also a question, now that I have rebuilt my top end for some reason I do not feel like it is hitting the power bands like it did before it tore up last year. ? Also I did not install the dauls that are in the top of the jug. I did install the 2 9n the bottom of the jug, but I could not get the top 2 out if the old jug. How important are those?
This is an awesome video, everyone has different tips they’ve picked up over years of trial & error so to cram this many into a 15min video is 👍 Thanks man
Nice work, I wish I could play with dirt bikes for a living.
