Show me a Transformers fan who doesn't like the Constructicons/Devastator, and I'll show you a person who is not really a Transformers fan. Every kid I knew wanted that set of toys when I was a lad.
Devastator isn't only the first combiner, he is *the combiner,* they are six construction vehicules who transform into the most destructive giant robot, Devastator is awesome!
He had the end of season 1, most of season 2 and the movie to himself. That was too much of a head start for any other combiner to catch up, also, Devastator's spotlight came at the height of the Transformers popularity. By season 3, combiners like Predaking didn't have the audience that Devastaor had enjoyed..
In Heavy Metal War, Optimus beat Devastator in one shot. Wanna know where he landed that shot? *The Enemy Scrotum.* As for the Origin of the Constructicons, I like to think of it the sort of same way as the Combaticons. They had their minds stored on Cyber Tron cause their bodies were destroyed earlier in the war, and one day with the Space Bridge they brought the minds here and rebuilt their bodies on Earth.
"I think this irons out all the problems with the constructicons!"........proceeds to show the most glaring mistake of G1 constructicons, "wrong-face" Devestator! Seriously, great breakdown. And that little black and white screen-shot takes me back, as I had all the choose-your-own-adventure books back in grade-school. I was too young to understand why, but I always noticed all the little inconsistencies and animation flubs amongst all the different types of Transformers media. Its nice to put all that to rest some 35 years later!
The production of this show was really fast and loose and there's holes like this everywhere. As much as we all love it, it was all made to sell toys so strict adhesion to cannon was likely second at best. I think this explanation is really good and it looks like with the new trilogy series they are attempting to fix a lot of this as well. In 1984 they probably had no idea that they were creating something that would last this long and grow even larger in popularity over the decades. I'll probably always be impressed by what became of what was really just a way to import some robot toys from japan in the early to mid 80s. Thanks for gluing the Devastator origin story together. Hasbro should hire you!
I've never been near as familiar with the toys as I was/am the G1 cartoon, but I've heard that the cartoon and the toys often didn't line up with each other.
In the million times I've seen 'More Than Meets the Eye' I always thought that Cliffjumper was just saying "Hauler" in a very generic sense, and that was just a regular human construction worker with a truck. Since he was never seen again, lol.
I had figured something like that. Example in Starblazers/Space Battleship Yamato the ship was heavily damaged after their fight with the Comet Empire and in the New Voyage they stated the ship as the "newly built Yamato" even though it wasn't built from scratch, they simply rebuilt the heavily damaged ship from what was left of it. I often figured it was basically the same with the Constructicons.
This is basically how I viewed their origin: 1. They first built Megatron. 2. Megatron reprogrammed them, giving them their combining ability. 3. They were destroyed somehow, but then rebuilt on Earth with new bodies.
I viewed their origin story the same way and I still do today it just seems like the most logical to me they build Megatron eventually Megatron turned on them then reprogrammed them then they got destroyed and then they got rebuild simple.
Not that it's a true nit, but I do recall in the ep where the Autobots attempted to reprogram the Constructicons (shades of Merope Gaunt for Tom Sr.) where Megatron learned of their plans and said, to my best recall: "So. They wish to control a Devastator." That use of 'A Devastator' as opposed to just 'Devastator' plus the Omega Supreme ep made me think maybe there was more than one Devastator.
JaydenLEL Surprised it hadn’t become a bigger meme because of just the fact he actually said it for real and allowed in the episode. Sure it had a different meaning back then but the point still stands.
This video was great, I think it would be good to mention that there is another constructicon that might have been among the ones in Megatron's construction named Hightower, he got a toy on the Classics toyline and transforms into a crane. His Tfwiki article says that he dislikes his teammates, he is pretty much a mobile chemistry lab and loves anything that kills like poisons and explosives, some lines from his appearance in the comic "Crossing over" imply that Scrapper is dead so he might be either a reconstructed Scrapper or Mixmaster since both are missing from that Devastator but there is nothing confirmed.
I kind of dig the idea that Hauler was terrified Omega Supreme would lump him in with the rest of the Constructicons, possibly making him change his color the way we see in the first episode. Maybe he made it a point to go on energy search missions as far away as possible once he got wind of rumors Omega had made it to earth. Would kind of explain why he's M.I.A. in the series. Maybe he also went back to his preferred color scheme once he finally had a sit down with the big guy 😁
The Constructicons are unique in that they're a team of Decepticons who actually want to BUILD UP, not just mindlessly TEAR DOWN. As a kid, it saddened me that they were Robosmashed from good to evil. 😢 Wheeljack and Perceptor developing a gadget to REVERSE those effects is a tale waiting to be told! 😉 And the green and purple colour scheme was not only a great and striking idea, it fit in perfectly with the traditional bad guy colour scheme that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby put forth in early Marvel Comics. (Good guys, primary colours. Bad guys, secondary colours.)
The Robosmasher reversal is essentially what happens in the episode "The Core", when the Autobots make devices that turn the Constructicons good for a while. At the end, they voluntarily go with Megatron.
@@robinarmstrong685 Yup. I know, and that was a great episode. But I was thinking Percep and Jackie could SPECIFICALLY make an Anti-smasher - reverse circuitry and all that - to PERMANENTLY get the Constructicons back to who they were. Even as a kid, I was surprised that the writers didn't tie the events of "Secret Of Omega" and "The Core" together.
This actually fits perfectly on the origins on both Megatron and the Constructicons. Get work. Now I really want to know about the Autobots Matrix of leadership.
Nuclear hot take: The robo smasher is actually Quintesson Technology. Change my mind. (It would make sense for megatron to have found the robo smasher somewhere on Cybertron and utilizing it and taking credit for it, but being unable to make a new one once it was destroyed)
It would be cool to see a video detailing early history of the G1 cartoon universe, in chronological order of what we see and are told, from the creation of Unicron by Primacron, through the Quintessons creation of the first transformers, to all the Constructicon flashbacks and Orion Pax encounter with Megatron, the start of the war and everything preceeding Season 1, Episode 1 of the Generation 1 cartoon.
The Constructicons fled Omega Supreme in a ship using FTL drive, the only way Omega Supreme could persue them was to also use a FTL ship. They achieved relativistic speed and the millions of years that passed were in Earth years.
I like the way you worked all the discrepancies in their origin into a fan version that makes all versions plausible. Great job. I’m going to go with your take on it. Works for me.
I never considered the idea of the Constructicons being rebuilt on earth. Interesting theory. I always just tried not to think about it and decided that the Omega Supreme story simply retcons the Heavy Metal War origin away. But then I never had an explanation for why the Contrucficons don’t get affected by the lack of Cybertonium. This honestly will serve as my new headcanon so thank you for that.
The explanation is one that circulated around more with us G1-era Pro-'Cons than with the Pro-'Bot fans because we loved delving into the nuances of Decepticon culture and complexity (the close partnership between Megatron, Soundwave, and and Starscream, for example). As the show outwardly liked to claim Decepticons were always evil (despite quite a few events in the cartoon showing the opposite), a lot of fans never considered they had a cultural structure similar to that of the Klingons in the original Star Trek timeline. For us Pro-'Cons, Autobots and Decepticons are cultures, not races, who were designed with very different purposes by the Quintessons. The Constructicons were something apart from both main roles, as they were neither service or military function specifically but could serve both roles as required. Thus the Crystal City origin made perfect sense, and the fact that many Transformers were given new bodies over the course of G1 (such as the Combaticons or Soundwave and Blaster in the Japanese Headmasters) just fit in naturally. There's also a theory about the Dinobots having a more complex origin story in the cartoon continuity, but (as Rodimus would say) that's a story for another day.
Valoşi I’ve always appreciated that the Cons had an actual culture and an idea for how to live their lives. I simply do not agree with it. That said I remained unaware of this theory. I’ve never felt so fascinated and insulted by a person at the same time.
@@ValosiTiamata well unlike the Klingons in Star Trek, Decepticons for the most part have no concept of honor. Megatron believes that everything is a tool for his conquest.
@@BrotherDerrick3X Surprisingly enough, honour was a big factor in a lot of Decepticon storylines in the G1 cartoon. It became especially apparent when Galvatron appeared and began booting Decepticons from his ranks when they attempted to do the honourable thing. That's one of the reasons Galvatron was so hated by his own minions - like modern politicians, he ruled through fear and was completely insane. I do agree, though, that most continuities beyond the G1 cartoon display the Decepticons in a different light. You see that code of honour appear here and there, but it's an unstable concept at best. I put it down to the fact that most TF shows and comics are more about the entertainment and less about the message these days. Which brings up an odd aspect of the G1 and Beast Wars cartoons. G1 was meant to be a children's show and while the writing was often lacklustre, you could find a surprising amount of depth in it. A lot of contemporary real life issues were addressed in the show, but almost always in a toned down manner. The sequel/prequel Beast Wars blended aspects of the cartoon and comic and was made for more mature audiences. It tackled social issues a bit more blatantly, although the setting limited the stories that could be discussed. The genocide of the Decepticons was one of the most prominent carryovers from the G1 cartoon, which had already begun in s3 on a smaller scale. Megatron was called out by Prime on at least one occasion for failing to uphold the Decepticon sense of honour, and he often called minions out for being dishonourable. It's an aspect of the G1 Megs I think I miss the most.
I think I had 1 or 2 of the constructicons back when I was a kid, but never got 'em all. I actually think I traded the couple I had for other transformers. We did that a lot as kids back in the old neighborhood. Great video Rodimus! Unlike a lot of the other Transformers youtubers out there, you seem to be the most down to earth and real. Thank you for being you and God bless you and your family.
This is a pretty good theory that explains pretty well the Constructicons' backstory and goes more or less how I would headcanon it in my mind. But I never noticed that there were two other Constructicons there when Megatron was built! I would have just said they got killed in the Great War on Cybertron, before the othere fled from Omega Supreme. But what you added here was pretty good!
Love the video, Rodimus Primal. I think their origin story conflicts are really just a case of multiple writers on a very tight production schedule. If they could have had more time and limited who wrote the episodes they likely would have caught these conflicts when fleshing out their stories. But since the cartoon was essentially a 30 minute toy commercial, Hasbro executives just wanted to get these episodes out as quickly as possible. It is a shame that they didn't allocate the proper amount of time and detail that they could have. I still love the toys and love to rewatch the episodes anyways.
So here’s a constructicon reference I noticed in ROTF. So imo the way megatron was resurrected by the constructicons seems similar to the origin that the g1 constructicons built megatron. And also it was 8 constructicons in g1 for that scene, and according to studio series, 8 constructicons form devastator
It´s always good to re watch old videos, specially as good as this one, in which we all search for the answer! I agree with you Constructicon Timeline my friend!
I think I made a comment in the old version of this video that tried to piece things together here goes There is a breed of Transformers that are construction based in addition to Constructicons this includes several Autobots with construction Alt forms Moving onto Constucticons A faction of construction robots formed (distinctive by their uniformed green and purple coloring). At least 8 of these robots were responsible for creating a New type of Transformer Megatron Within that group of constructicons there is a smaller group of 6 constructicons (whether any of them were also one of the creators of Megatron is unknown) these 6 were friends with Omega Supreme but would later betray him after being altered by the Robosmasher. Omega Supreme went on Rampage and pursued them around Cybertron. Upon hearing their leader Megatron had left I. Pursuit of the Autobots they hastily built a ship and followed Omega Supreme pursued them attacking and damaging their ship but lost track of them. They too Crashed on earth and their bodies were damaged beyond repair. When Shockwave made contact with Megatron one of the updates Shockwave gave Megatron was that the Constructicon 6 had faithfully followed. Megatron was able to track them down and uncover their remains , while the bodies were damaged their Spark and memory cores remained so Megatron had new bodies built from Earth Materials. Meanwhile Omega Supreme Grudgingly joined the Autobots under Optimus Primes Command, knowing that his blood Vendetta with Devastor would never get sanctioned so long as it endangered the humans
There's usually some tidbit of info or a new way of looking at something that I didn't already know in this videos! This one though I watched to see if any of my old images from my old website would be used, and I was not disappointed :)
RodimusPrimal “The Devastator Homepage.” It is the Constructicon lineup composite shot from the cartoon. It is more likely that you got it from Wikipedia as they use the same image from my website. I am tickled to see it in this video.
I love the episode master builders were the constructicons help out grapple and hoist build there solor power tower I love that transformation sequence.
i prefer your version of the origin of G1 devastator it's also weird how the constructicons built Megatron and Megatron reprogram and rebuild the constructicons. I also cant wait to see a video for the Bayverse devastator i honestly like the design but wish they didn't put the balls scene, i enjoy your videos very much and hope your doing alright.
Yea, so far, this the best and moust logical version. I was kind of scepticall why you were relising constructicons origin video again, but after looking at it, this is just inpruve version with view extra details like stories from collecktors Club comics. Over all, video it self for the moust part is like reheated pork chop, I ated that before, buuut I don t mind eating it again. 😁
i know its probably not canon; but i like to think the constructicons were just a team of bots who died on the way to earth, thanks to damage sustained by Omega Supreme. The decepticons found them and rebuilt them, possibly literally building them into devastator.
The new version of this video is definitely more complete, and I'm glad to see that you're revisiting some older topics to update them. To this day I wonder why anybody thinks the Constructicon origins are a continuity error. Everything fits together quite naturally and, even if people missed the comment about them leaving Cybertron, we have plenty of stories in the US and Japanese canon of Transformers losing their bodies and being rebuilt into new Transformers later. I'm a little surprised you didn't mention G2's Dirtbag and Roadblock. Their gimmick placed them as Autorollers, but it was obvious from the paint scheme and vehicle modes they were meant to be official Constructicons. Back when the toys first came out, I simply took them to be two of the unnamed Constructicons from FFoD.
Yeah I agree with your explanation of their G1 origins. This makes a lot of sense. I always thought that after their fight with Omega Supreme. They fled Cybertron, but were badly injured so when they arrived on earth Megatron rebuilt them. Hence Megatron stating they were built in that cavern. Another great one man. Till all are one
I’d like to think the constructions at Megatron’s birth were just nameless cybertronians that just look like the constructions which explains why there are 8 instead of 6
A way to tie is that Gravedigger and Hauler, the only Constructicons intact (they weren't present in the attack of Robosmasher) went separate ways, Hauler joining the Autobots (and later lost in space with the Ark), and Gravedigger trying to find a way to help his friends, while they are being chased by Omega Supreme. Finally, Omega reach the Constructicons and destroy them, but Gravedigger (to who Omega wasn't trying to kill) rescued the personality components of his former friends and keep them alive, but now he have a high resentment to Omega and the Autobots, so he heard that Megatron and his troops are alive in a near by planet (Earth) and join freely the Decepticons in exchange to have the opportunity to rebuild his friends. So, he help to "build" the new bodies of the Constructicons with Earth materials, and fled Earth with some mission for Megatron (perhabs locate Cybertron and help there to Shockwave, he don't have the ability to combine with his former partners anyway), appearing later on Earth again by the third season of the series. Omega Supreme, who was traveling somewhere without a mission now, eventually heard about the "resurrection" of his former friends and rush to go to Earth too.
@@RodimusPrimal Because I made it as soon I ended watching your video :) (but the part when de Constructicons bodies were made with earth materials is old, since de 90's)
The Constructicons/Devastator were definitely much better than any of the Scramble City combiners (disliked the Aerialbot toys the most because when they got loose from play, Superion would always slouch if not fall over). Anyway, the few episodes where they drew Devastator with eyes instead of a visor was just... ughhh! 🤢 looked so wrong! - The summary of their origin presented is definitely plausible. Well done!
In the toy form, I never understood in the manufacturing of the head, they always included the sepearate laser cannon, that protruded from the side of the head, even though the toon nor the comicbook never did show it. Also, the Constructicons were the only combiner group, to have 6 members, instead the usual 5 to make their merged form.
I like this explanation because it avoids the issue that Megatron and the Deceptions are better at building robots than Wheeljack and Ratchet. And as we later see with Starscream, building mere robot bodies is a doddle!
I know this has noting to do with the video at all and I'm very sorry, but I had a discussion with my dad before on our way home from Walmart after I bought both Netflix WFCT Hotlink and Decepticon Mirage, and it goes like this. Dad: Why do you like Transformers so much? They're just plastic. Me: Well, because it has a very interesting history originate from two Japanese toylines by Takara, intriguing multi-continuities and lore, the many various characters, and the toys themselves are fantastic. They're basically robot action figure + puzzle + vehicle/etc. toys all-in-1, with the complex transformation being the puzzle itself. It just fascinates me. Dad: Is that so. I guess these Transformers are more to it than meets the eye. Me: Exactly. That is probably one of the best discussion I had with my dad and I'll never forget that. It's all thanks to your Retrospective/Transformers Discussion and Chris' TRANSFORMERS: The Basics that I've learned a lot about Transformers, and also toy reviewers like baltmatrix and Thew to know which figure to get, so thank you very much! Still reading the IDW comics, watching both G1 and Prime, will watch the Netflix Series soon but I wanna watch the entirely of G1 series, Headmaster, Super-God Masterforce and Victory first. I have watched Scramble City, the 1986 Movie, Zone, the first two Bayformers movies and the Prime Wars Trilogy web series (honestly I'll take the Prime Wars Trilogy over the Bayformers movies any day) before. Actually I got into Transformers and became a fan started pretty late with Transformers: DEVASTATION back in 2015, and started my not-so-big collection at the very near end of the Titans Return line with Triggerhappy, Misfire and Slugslinger I got for Christmas. And, the rest is history. Enjoyed SIEGE and loving Earthrise so far. But yeah, that's how things. Thank you for listening/reading and I'm sorry for going totally off-topic with what I think about the Constructicon origins and stuff. I'm still learning about Transformers overall so I can't say much about it, but I agree with your take on their origins. It does make more sense than what they gave us in the G1 series. Anyway thank you very much again and Till All Are One!
I saw the Constructicns as being neutral back on Cybertron and the then losing Decepticons contracted them to build the ultimate Decepticon leader, which they did. I can only assume that this led to Megatron wanting them as Decpeticons and he put the Robosmasher on them.
to me, the constructicons were from Cybertron, then they were destroyed, then they're personality components were stored in those energon cubes like in "Starscreams Brigade" then the decepticons built new bodies
Yes!!!! I have them in green and purple ( metal, g1 ) and yellow and purple ( plastic, g2 ) still. again, thanks for making these videos. Also, I was a constructicon in the seabees my man. I was grapple/hauler haha.
Has anyone thought that on the episode Desertion of the Dinobots, that the Constructicons were the first Decepticons to receive Cybertonium via the space bridge? This could explain why they were fully functional when battling the Dinobots
Nicely done. I like how it opens more possibilities of there being "Construcabots" loyal to the AutoBot faction. Maybe they'll find a way to make some a part of that new Mercenary faction in earthrise. Good job Primal.
I admit. I kind of want a G1-Movie hybrid for these guys. Maybe some of the color variety from the movie and the ability to suck things up, but still with the designs of G1.
Nah. I like the uniform colors. Have you ever been to some construction sites? Some companies make their equipment uniform in color to help sell their brand.
While not perfect, I think your examination is good. It's fun to think about different groups of transformers, even if there are a lot of recolors just to sell more toys.
Your explanation of their creation is quite insightful but I still believe that it was an oversight by the writers during season 2's production. Could be mistaken though.
Actually the G1 Cartoon did do a good enough job to leave bread crumbs for the constricticons... After the Quintisons fled from Cybertron.. The inhabitants seeking to make their own culture decided to organize a number of construction of construction teams... After the first war of Cybertron that lead to the development of Transformation technology... These teams choose to be upgraded to have an essortment of Construction vehicles.. That would explain grapple, the scene at Megatron creation, Crystal city and etc... -Megatron creation is one team. -Crystal city is another team.. That explains why they had to be converted by the Robo Smasher.. Then we come to the Megatron line and Omega Supreme Dialogue.... Omega Supreme chased them and probably boarded the ship... Causing it to crash into the mountain where the Bodies where later found by Megatron. Then he rebuilt them.. In similar fashion to that of the Combaticons parting out earth Construction vehicles to replace the damaged and destroyed bodies from Omega Supreme and the Crash landing... The Constructicon ship would also examine the cybertron technology used in heavy metal war... Also explains the Space Bridge technology seen in the series... Also this both covers and explains away the animation errors constructicons... Also ties up other loose ends...
As I believe I noted on the origonal: Megatron's comment in Heavy Metal War, could, if you squint sideways at it mean "the trouble we took to build this base" not the "the trouble we took to build the Constructicons." The flashback stories are much harder to reconcile. Regarding Megatron's creation scene: was a Prime actually present to witness those events? Or was the scene fabricated based on available data for Rodimus' benefit? In which case the Decepticon engineers were given images of Decepticon engineers familiar to Rodimus.
Much of season 3 is loaded with animation errors, or the animators were just plain lazy at that point. That's why Megatron's creators look like the Constructicons.
Howdy my Friend, I gotta say, the Constructions were my most favorite Transformers I owned, growing up in a small town, in the country, it took me some time, to save the money, and wait till the next Constructions action figures to come to town, I was so disappointed when I moved from home, that my parents gave away almost all my Transformers, including my Constructions... I thought they would be safe in my storage at the farm, till I returned to collect them, so sorry I didn't take them all, when I moved out on my own, Thank you for sharing this footage, Peace
Hooray a new transformers discussion video. These are always interesting to watch because of the amount of research and thought that goes into them. That attempt to resolve all the conflicting origin stories of the constructicons is pretty good. G1 has so many inconsistencies and messy continuities that it's good when fans really try to figure out a way to make the messy parts a little tidier so we can do more than just shrug and say "eh that's G1 for ya" Honestly it's kinda sad to think that G1 could have been even more amazing if hasbro saw it more than just half hour toy commercials. Under ideal circumstances in line with modern sensibilities Hasbro, Takara, marvel and Toei would have planned not just the cartoon story a bit more holistically but done so on a more serialized format as has always been common with anime and the comics would have told stories from the same universe/continuity as the cartoon. I know some people prefer the stories in the comics because of Simon Furman's writing but it always annoyed me how fractured G1 is. Bob Budiansky and the guys at marvel really did a great job at building the lore of the autobots and decepticons, it was a good foundation that made a very simple concept quite engaging with some surprising depth for what was intended as advertainment. But hasbro really cheated the fans in so many ways, too many to list but the big one for me is the twenty year time skip between season 2 and 3. Are we to believe that nothing interesting happened during that time skip that they had to cut it out and fast forward to a radically different setting? I just find it a tragic irony that the franchise today has the longevity and scope to tell deeper stories than it had back then but this newer stuff just can't recapture the same magic that G1 had. Worse still the franchise owes a lot of its current popularity due to those horrible, god awful movies made by Michael bay that bear the name transformers. And because of that new series now have to incorporate tropes from those movies such as the "all spark" and bumblebee losing his ability to speak due to some plot contrivances (once I could live with but every freaking time??? That's too much, man)
I mean, this is a nice way of cleaning up the continuity errors, but we all know that they exist because each episode was written by different writers, who didn't really look back into previous episodes to hear what was said about their origin. They were merely making cartoons for children to watch, so they felt any continuity errors didn't matter because they had no idea that the children watching this would make a religion out of this when they grew up! 😂🤣 But one "error" that can't really be "explained away" is the animation appearance of them on Cybertron in the episode The Sectret of Omega Supreme. They still resembled their earth vehicle forms. But back then, they would have had Cybertronian construction vehicle forms. Of course, we know this is because the animators were never told to "think up what 6 Cybertronian construction vehicles would look like." It was easier and less time consuming for the animators to simply use their earth vehicle forms. We also see errors like this in the episode Fire in the Sky, when Skyfire and Starscream leave Cybertron to explore earth, years before the war on Cybertron. In the flashback story, Starscream has his earth jet mode, which would be impossible since humans did not even exist on earth yet to build jets! 😂🤣 There is "less" excuse for this, since Thundercracker and Skywarp had Cybertronian jet modes in the first episode. They simply should have used that mode for Starscream in the flashback story. I mean, they even took care to avoid a mistake like this in the episode with the 3 "rainmaker" seekers. They properly transformed into their Cybertronian jet modes as they should since they never came to earth. It would have been easy to make an animation mistake here too, since those seekers never said a word and only appeared for less than 20 seconds on that episode and were never seen again! 😂🤣 Brings up another good question: where were the rainmaker seekers in the episode: The Search for Alpha Trion? Wouldn't it have made sense that they would appear in that episode to help Shockwave chase down and capture the female Autobots along with Starscream and the team that Megatron sent to Cybertron to do so? Or even The Key to Vector Sigma episode? If there were at least 3 more seekers that remained back on Cybertron, why didn't they show as "added muscle" in episodes where some of the characters on earth traveled back to Cybertron? 🤔
I would say that their Earth modes were the same as the Combaticons. They were originally Cybertronian who were seperated from their original bodies and had their personality components transfered to new bodies like the Combaticons like you said
Them building Megatron was a miscalculation on their part. They were trying to make the perfect Cybertronian leader and accidentally created Megatron. Thus we have continuity for the G1 cartoon

That's mostly a constant animation error. For his Untie Warriors release, Devastator can now be displayed with eyes or visor.
devastator with visor is the original devastator
It’s an 80s show with different writers, who wrote a kids show, and NEVER thought 30 years later, the internet would notice
It isn't even a "show." It is an extended length advertisement for toys.
How ironic. The leader of the Constructicons forms Devastator’s right leg instead of his chest and head.
Grapple:”Crap, we ran out of building materials.”
Scrapper:”Are you sure about that?”
In Heavy Metal War, Optimus beat Devastator in one shot. Wanna know where he landed that shot?
*The Enemy Scrotum.*
As for the Origin of the Constructicons, I like to think of it the sort of same way as the Combaticons.
Well now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
Wow, I didn't realize those TF Collectors' Club magazine covers connected together! I just read each one as they came and put them away.
This is basically how I viewed their origin:
I love the G1 Devastator, he used to be my favorite character, back during my childhood.
Since my introduction to Transformers was the 1986 Transformers Movie, Devastator was the first combiner l remember.
My wife and I were just talking about this the other day. I love how this fits everything cleanly together. Very cool.
Hey Brother, so nice you can have an enjoyable talk about transformers with your wife, I wonder, where can I find a wife like yours?
“Amazing A booby trap that actually catches booby’s”. The most weirdest thing I ever heard Optimus Prime say (don’t get mad at me folks he said that).
JaydenLEL Surprised it hadn’t become a bigger meme because of just the fact he actually said it for real and allowed in the episode. Sure it had a different meaning back then but the point still stands.
Different time as well though. A lot of shows these days couldn’t get away with things they used to
But I still don’t get why Optimus said that, Astrotrian got stuck and the girl was a hologram but who knows?
I think booby was generally used as a form of idiot? I’m not really sure
The 80s were a simpler time
This video was great, I think it would be good to mention that there is another constructicon that might have been among the ones in Megatron's construction named Hightower, he got a toy on the Classics toyline and transforms into a crane.
And the green and purple colour scheme was not only a great and striking idea, it fit in perfectly with the traditional bad guy colour scheme that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby put forth in early Marvel Comics.
You should have left Rumble's retort: "Hey nobody calls Soundwave unchrasimatic" in the clip. I love that line.
Keep up the great work.
Perfect timing as I recently got the original Blaster figure from Walmart a few days ago.
I remember seeing G1 Devastator in the commercials. ah the good times
Devastator will always hold a special place in my heart, especially with the scene in the transformers the movie with "prepare for exterminator"
your explination makes more sense than anything else I've heard
I completely agree with your origin for the Constructicons, mainly as that is basically what I came up with myself back when the series ran
Nuclear hot take: The robo smasher is actually Quintesson Technology. Change my mind.
(It would make sense for megatron to have found the robo smasher somewhere on Cybertron and utilizing it and taking credit for it, but being unable to make a new one once it was destroyed)
I can believe that. Seems like something they would have used on ancient cybertron...
Absolutely love Omega Supreme & Constructicons' storyline.
I like the way you worked all the discrepancies in their origin into a fan version that makes all versions plausible. Great job. I’m going to go with your take on it. Works for me.
“Nothing defeats the devastator, nothing!“ Um, the constructicons need to work together in order for that to happen.
On a sidenote, there was a ladybird book when I was a kid that mentioned Cybetnite as a stronger metal
I agree with you on your theory on the Constructions origin!
The best explanation, by far
I think I made a comment in the old version of this video that tried to piece things together here goes
There is a breed of Transformers that are construction based in addition to Constructicons this includes several Autobots with construction Alt forms
Moving onto Constucticons
A faction of construction robots formed (distinctive by their uniformed green and purple coloring). At least 8 of these robots were responsible for creating a New type of Transformer Megatron
Within that group of constructicons there is a smaller group of 6 constructicons (whether any of them were also one of the creators of Megatron is unknown) these 6 were friends with Omega Supreme but would later betray him after being altered by the Robosmasher.
I remember having to think of ways of how all of that ties together as a kid, and my conclusion was very similar to yours
There's usually some tidbit of info or a new way of looking at something that I didn't already know in this videos! This one though I watched to see if any of my old images from my old website would be used, and I was not disappointed :)
Your old website?
Thanks for clearing that up! I never knew I needed this information.
Great update, you really are a perfectionist, which is awesome.
Awesome I love learning about transformers this is why you're one of the best
Thats how I always thought it would of being, with them getting NEW Bodies on earth from Megs and the gang, like starscream and the Combaticons
It's sound as if adds to my own theory.
@@RodimusPrimal Because I made it as soon I ended watching your video :) (but the part when de Constructicons bodies were made with earth materials is old, since de 90's)
doesn't matter if was re-uploaded or remastered it's still interesting.
What a great time...best time for cartoons..
Well done!
The origin story should've given them Cybertron vehicle modes
To think that the Constructicons transform into vehicles that builds but their purpose is to destroy
I almost had all of them when i was a kid. Was only missing Hook to form the body
In the toy form, I never understood in the manufacturing of the head, they always included the sepearate laser cannon, that protruded from the side of the head, even though the toon nor the comicbook never did show it.
Also, the Constructicons were the only combiner group, to have 6 members, instead the usual 5 to make their merged form.
no, the Trainbots are also six
perfect , the only thing i'll add is the og body's were destroyed in the ships crashing
2:34 I feel like Long Haul needs a good retirement.
Funny you upload this now. I saw your old video recently and I just got a hold of a reissue if g1 devaststor.
To think of it, each member of Constructicons have their personality matched their role as a group of blue collar boys.
I’m always on the lookout for any Mega-fans that detailed their construction equipment in neon green and purple.
Has anyone thought that on the episode Desertion of the Dinobots, that the Constructicons were the first Decepticons to receive Cybertonium via the space bridge? This could explain why they were fully functional when battling the Dinobots
I think you nailed it.
@@RodimusPrimal I can see that. But I like combiners better with a more frankenstein's monster look. That's why I like Bruticus the best.
While not perfect, I think your examination is good. It's fun to think about different groups of transformers, even if there are a lot of recolors just to sell more toys.
Ah, the infamous Retconstrusticons.
Of course you know what this means-
Hasbro needs to make a cybertronian "War for Cybertron" Devastator
My favorite Decepticons with the Dinobots being my favorite Autobots
Nice video, and a funny coincidence for me. I just got a Combiner Wars Devastator in today.
Your explanation of their creation is quite insightful but I still believe that it was an oversight by the writers during season 2's production. Could be mistaken though.
Good take, bro. Always wondered about all the background stories and the lack of regarding the constructicons
I always thought the Constructicons in five faces of Darkness were just additional construction robots.
Remastered or not, this is cool.
Surely the biggest head-scratcher is why the Constructicons possess earth vehicle forms in the Cybertron flashbacks?
And the poor longhaul guy transforms into the devastator's crotch
I'm even happy to watch your remasters! you've definitely honed your craft. Thanks for all the vids!
Thanks. I've got much more on the way.
I thought they would be safe in my storage at the farm, till I returned to collect them, so sorry I didn't take them all, when I moved out on my own,
Thank you for sharing this footage, Peace
Superlative as always Rodimus Primal
Hooray a new transformers discussion video. These are always interesting to watch because of the amount of research and thought that goes into them. That attempt to resolve all the conflicting origin stories of the constructicons is pretty good. G1 has so many inconsistencies and messy continuities that it's good when fans really try to figure out a way to make the messy parts a little tidier so we can do more than just shrug and say "eh that's G1 for ya"
Honestly it's kinda sad to think that G1 could have been even more amazing if hasbro saw it more than just half hour toy commercials.
