I remember earning them as a reward for good grades at school. One academic year, six report cards, six honor rolls, six Constructicons, and one Devastator. As one would expect, I have them to this day.
I remember my best friends and neighbors had Dinobots, so I begged my parents to take me to the mall to buy one. Every store was sold out, and I was heartbroken. I ended up with Scavenger as consolation. He was my only Constructicon ever.
Constructicons on a Saturday morning, it's 1985 again. What fun it was to see two 'acid masters', Alien and Mixmaster side by side. Thanks for your work Michael, you made my day with this one.
Watching the care and every bit of attention to detail Lord Michael Mercy has put to my favorite G1 combiner is like watching my weekday cartoons all over again as a kid. You REALLY nailed the essence of each Constructicon and why I LOVE them so much. You even nailed Dev's personality and the laugh lol. So many memories and matchups with other combiners. I had the combo set as a Toys R Us birthday gift from my dad. Even though Hasbro butchered their origin story a few times! lmao FANTASTIC Job my friend. THANK YOU for all that you do! #NerdMaste
Thanks for making another outstanding video. The Constructicons MADE Christmas ‘85. My parents wrapped them up individually and My excitement grew exponentially each time I opened one. My parents still enjoy the part of the family video when I excitedly exclaim “If get all of them I can make Devastator!” Over the years I sadly lost all but mixmaster and hook but quickly nabbed the classic reissue a few years ago for myself and my son.
I bought mine individually, with I believe the last of the six buying two at once. I'm pretty sure my first was Scavenger and Long Haul and Hook the last. I recall being amazed and proud of myself for assembling them all. It would spark my dedication toward completing sets, Superion and Bruticus for example. I sadly as with all my Transformers neglected and lost them over time. When I started collecting a few years ago I never had a hope I would own them again then one day I walked into Walmart and saw the rereleased gift set, I literally jumped up and down. Coincidentally I am waiting for my Cool Become Brave scaled down version, sitting at my local post office now, bummed it didn't get delivered today but this video made me feel better, keep up the awesome work Mr. Mercy!
Michael, I am a big fan of your videos. It’s refreshing to see a content creator who actually puts time and effort into his content. The editing, the writing, the G1 background music...just phenomenal! You inspire me to be a better TH-camr. Keep up the amazing work, sir.
These vids take me back to my child hood. I still have my g1 set of constructicons. It was my most favorite set of transformers till I got the stunticons and the combaticons.
Back in public school I remember my buddy and I going to the Stouffville flea market to pick up one for his collection and once we got home and he opened it, we ended up riding our bikes back out there because he wanted to get another one. It was quite the spectacle to see it fully put together.
Nice effect with the red over their stats. I forgot they did that back in the day. I've got some Seige and Earthrise figures and was wandering what the little red sheet was for.
I was obsessed with the combaticons. Their different colors made Bruticus look patched together and super cool to my young eyes. I had swindle (still the coolest hoodwinker ever) Votex, and Onslaught. The others were out of my reach as a child no matter how long I looked at their pictures in the catalogue. I would love to see Bruticus Mr. Mercy.
Great video of the vintage Constructicons, I like how far the Japanese came in making toy robots for decades and now we have these awesome mode changing robot toys that keep getting better.
I remember having this as a kid, it were my favorite transformers alongside Starscream cus I loved building machines and aircrafts, gonna buy this again!
Such great figures. I had a hodgepodge mix of the original G1 green ones and the European/G2 yellow ones so I couldn't combine them into Devastator due to a couple of connecting tabs being absent on my yellow euro versions. When I finally acquired the complete Encore amnie colour reissue as an adult, I was absolutely delighted. Great video Michael!
Thanks Mark! I didn't have the originals but did snap up the yellow G2 versions in the 90s. Had so much fun assembling them into Devastator even though I was supposedly 'too old' for toys at that point. :D
Devasteitor was and is my favorite combiner over the other combiner ! The most funny thing I never played with him went I was kid ! My first Devasteitor i buoyed year ago and i has second one from NBK big one . Devasteitor is the man of the combiner!
Retroactive There is a subset of Good and service robots robots that specialize in construction and creation ( to include characters like Hoist, wheel jack etc) Within that group is another subset of at least 8 that were responsible for building /creating Megatron. There is another group of Six that worked as a team and were friends with Omega supreme until Megatron turned them with his robosmasher and in the process gave them a second transformation that allowed them to combine into a larger single robot form. But that form was known only by Omega Supreme on the autobot side and he tended to be a loner. That team accompanied Megatron in pursuit of the Ark and the autobots but remained on the ship (like the Insecticons) as the sips engineers (unlike the insecticons who were protected in stasis) that shipped crashed and the Consticons were badly damaged and offline. Megatron then ordered them rebuilt once the wreckage was found and introduced them to a shocked Assembly of autobots not including Omega. Later when Omega Supreme arrives and pledged fealty to Optimus he regularly abandoned his position in pursuit of the Constructicons until Optimus finally called him out on it
The constructicons were the only merge group where every member had the same color scheme except for Prediking and they both looked great as Devastator and Prediking.
If G1 Hook was a Railway Series character, something ironic or embarrassing would happen to him following a display of his snobbery and have others laugh at him for it. Meanwhile G1 Scavenger would be the underdog who proves his worth and that he’s more than a useless pile of scrap.
Awesome video! I always loved the Constructicons and Devastator, and they were my favorite combiner team on the Decepticon side (for the Autobots, my favorite is Computon). Long Haul was my favorite figure of the bunch! By the way, did anyone else ever have trouble with Hook's feet breaking?
Another great Transformers video. Had 2 of them when I was younger, same generation I believe. I think they had orange variants at some point. (or maybe those were constructicons?)Love the clips from the cartoon as always :)
When i saw the G1 cartoon as a kid and the first appeareance of constructicons & then DEVASTATOR fighting the dinobots that was a game changer from just being awesome to absolutely EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!
The constructicons and Devastator are so original to the series that the writers wanted to make certain there was a story about them, so they ended up writing three.
I still have all my Constructicons, but Scavenger's shovel is broken. I even have all the accessories (I think. I'll double-check) and more surprisingly, the instructions. Great video, Michael.
Great review, I had those when I was a kid, found the box set in 1992 in a used toys store, paid US$5,00 (R$25,00 - Brazilian reais) back than. Ended up giving them to a friend of mine that was a real fan of Transformers, I know they are in good hands.
I bought the individual carded ones at a local drug store back in the day. Definitely one of my favourites of the time, but as with all G1 figures, was still a bit disappointed on the differences between the animation model and the figure. The CrazyDevy upgrades really did help improve the appearance even though it made the figure a bit unstable. I think that project was one of the earliest of the third party kits that modified original figures at the time. Eventually I also bought the Takara re-issue along with the X Transbots upgrade kit, which was a good design compromise. Both versions are part of my display at home.
I laughed SO hard at the bit with the Contructicons standing in a circle around Scavenger, judging him! 🤣🤣🤣 After all, he’s just scavenging for acceptance. Great stuff, Mr. Mercy - you’re one of the best action figure/nostalgia personalities on here; got yourself a new subscriber. 😄👍
Really brings back memories. I had this set as a kid. Always wondered how come there is a Mixmaster with a green mixer and one with a purple mixer? I see both versions in this video as well 🤔
Of all of the combiner bots out there, The Constructicons were number one for me. They were a team of builders. After they were done smashing up a building, they could build a better one. I find their comic origin is easier to follow.
Masterfully done sir! They were always some of my favorites Decepticons. I'm glad you got them that energon, I was afraid of what they might do to the 80's Toy Museum!? 😉 NERDMASTE'!! 😁
My head cannon is that they were alive on cybertron but were destroyed during the war but their “souls” were saved by the decepticons and when they came to earth they were rebuilt on earth
Despite the idiosyncrasies of the Constructicons, they had one of the most consistent record of all the characters, by appearing in all 4 seasons (as well as the Movie), just like Optimus and Bumblebee! They may have dominated Season 2 at least until the emergence of the other combiners, but similar to a lot of the surviving Season 1 and 2 characters, the Constructicons were a joke in Season 3 where they allowed the Predacons to completely outperform them; indeed Galvatron once told them something like 'Fail me, and I shall send the Predacons after YOU!'
So this channel made me pull out all my old transformers and looking at my constructicons they are yellow not green.. Anyone know what line those are from?
@@MichaelMercy 90s sounds about right. Could never afford them as a kid but when i got my first job i bought devastator. Im trying to sort out all the different lines being a new collector and its a little overwhelming.... toy lines with sublines, third party stuff...

Thanks Vincent!
these videos are great fun to watch, its also cool wakeing up on saturday mornings to watch them
Thanks Adrien, glad to hear it!
I really liked how you used an infrared effect for the tech specs, that brought me back 🙂
"Prepare for extermination" My favorite line in all of Transformers.
Always loved the mix of green & purple colours.

Michael's tech spec on editing skill is a 10!

The Devastator feller is heIIa awesome...🤘🏼💯✔️
I really enjoyed this... Even the the ad's was on point.. Sick editing
Yeah. That is suberb editing
The Devastator gift set was the first Transformer I ever got.
DEVASTATOR is awesome. My first ( and probably alot of others) Combiner. Loved and still Love him.

My favorite G1 combiner. And you definitely gave him all the justice he deserves in your awesome review Michael. Thumbs up!!!

I've got a black lab/boxer mix that I named Scrapper, though not because he's a Decepticon lol
Devastator is my favorite combiner.
This is absolutely brilliant! Stellar work, Michael!
Drinking my coffee and enjoying the vid this morning . Thank you sir for posting

The first transformers I ever owned, wanted Soundwave, Mom couldn't find so she got me Constructacons, loved them!!!
My favorite combiner! Always wanted this as a kid
that was perfect timing. it showed the we'll be back righta s a add poped up

Well done with the character impressions :)
You create whole little worlds with each video like this. Im amazed by it. You are good at invoking immersion
Thanks!
Funny, I was combining my cw constructicons whilst watching
This was an outstandingly well constructed review of the G1 Constructicons. :D Well done Michael Mercy. :D Double Thumbs Up. ;D
The constructicons and Devastator are so original to the series that the writers wanted to make certain there was a story about them, so they ended up writing three.
LOL, I didn't know Devastator was such a comedian. He should take that show on the road. Excelent video. Thanks
I still have all my Constructicons, but Scavenger's shovel is broken. I even have all the accessories (I think. I'll double-check) and more surprisingly, the instructions. Great video, Michael.
The constructicons are the best, great video

Just crazy how the original series cannot be beat no matter what they come out with in the toy world!
Energon Cubes. The Only way to a Decepticons Heart. Lol.

Very nice, thier combined form looked very nice.
Love the colors and name of this one Mike!👍😁
Outstanding job like usual 😁👍
Thanks Bill! Have an awesome weekend!
This is brilliant Michael. Beautifully put together. Now, how do we get these shown in schools?
Great video, strong finish and geeky humour
IF you think about in hind-site, they could of used these big combiners to justify Mega-tron being a huge gun.
Really brings back memories. I had this set as a kid. Always wondered how come there is a Mixmaster with a green mixer and one with a purple mixer? I see both versions in this video as well 🤔
I really wish I had those figures of Sparkplug, & Spike, to set next to my Devastator, figure to get the true magnitude of Devastator’s, massive size!
Of all of the combiner bots out there, The Constructicons were number one for me. They were a team of builders. After they were done smashing up a building, they could build a better one. I find their comic origin is easier to follow.

Awesome video, good job sir
I see that those Smallest Ever Transformers are proving handy again! 😁
God I love the construction ... I have the sa comic con combiner wars deverstator , and this show off the original version greatly
Great video, very enjoyable thanks :)
So I’m guessing Long Haul is the “Logistics wins wars” type of guy
"Dinobots, destroy Devastator!"
"Me Grimlock love challenge!"
Him Grimlock got his butt kicked. :)
Always reminding us that Growing up was our worst decision.
Never too late to correct a mistake! :D
Nicely done, Devistator was the greatest! 😎👍
A question why constructicons appeared in heavy war metal in 1984 yes they are from 1985
My head cannon is that they were alive on cybertron but were destroyed during the war but their “souls” were saved by the decepticons and when they came to earth they were rebuilt on earth
That's a great way of making all of the origins still count.
awesome trans formers i like watching you're videos about toys 👍👍👍
0:03 Scrapper ran out of breath xd
My father told me he had the pack with all of them, but it didn't have all the pieces to assamble Devastator.
You're going to run out of cubes at this rate!
Where can I find a version of Mixmaster with the gray drum, instead of the green?
YES!
Despite the idiosyncrasies of the Constructicons, they had one of the most consistent record of all the characters, by appearing in all 4 seasons (as well as the Movie), just like Optimus and Bumblebee!

Chiropractic adjustments and ocular exams at the same time lmao!
I remember being so torn as a kid because I loved the constructicons but felt like a traitor cause they were the bad guys 🤣
The chicken or the egg, or rather, the Megatron or the Constructicons?
So this channel made me pull out all my old transformers and looking at my constructicons they are yellow not green.. Anyone know what line those are from?
G2 versions from the 90s?
@@MichaelMercy 90s sounds about right. Could never afford them as a kid but when i got my first job i bought devastator. Im trying to sort out all the different lines being a new collector and its a little overwhelming.... toy lines with sublines, third party stuff...

this looks nice
I like how Scavenger sounds just like Papa Smurf.😏
Nice and funny Review. Do u have the exact measurements of the box??
I only have scraper, but he's still cool though.
*Mix Master* sounds like a rapper
I have an answer to the g1 animation continuity if u want to hear it. It might be a decent explanation
