What is wrong with today's generation? instead of admiring the dress you people keep on finding ways to destroy those culture, it doesn't matter on why their dress is similar to others because they were colonized they have no choice because if they don't follow they will die or be tortured, it also doesn't matter if a country has a low IQ not everybody is made perfect including all the people commenting and me mistakes are always made and i'm sure all people make those, people who always think about negativity will be the one to destroy the future.

Barong tagalog and baro't saya *EVOLVED* from the *DRESS* that can be found in "Boxer codex". Boxer codex or the Manila Manuscript, is a Spanish manuscript written circa 1590, which contains illustrations of ethnic groups in the Philippines, ethnic groups across Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Micronesia at the time of the EARLY SPANISH CONTACT. This dress is what the filipinos wore even before the spaniards came to the country.
The term itself comes from the Tagalong words "barot at saya" or "blouse and skirt," still the basic components of the ensemble. For "Barong tagalog" I didn't need to explain as the "tagalog" itself is there. People who lived in mountains and other part of the country on the other hand also has their own traditional clothing. If you compare the Philippines traditional clothing to some countries occupied by spain you can find the uniqueness of Baro't saya and barong tagalog from their traditional dresses.

Christian, yes true! We should remember, that our Hispanic culture is based on all Filipinos in general and not based on a specific tribe only but as a whole as Filipinos. That is the real identity of the Philippines because if we wear the native dresses than we are only talking about a small group of Filipinos (tribe) but when we wear this Hispanic ones than we are reflecting as a whole Philippines and as a real Filipino. It's not our fault.

Gifari Andika Ferisqo Not all is lost. There's other still existing tribes there such as the Igorots (their clothes are more beautiful in my opinion). The Baro't Saya is often showcased that's all. Philippines may seem like Spanish wanna bees but that is due to harsh colonization for over 3-4 centuries; very similar to what happened to S. American countries. Plus, the original language and tradition (not very obvious but that's because natives just mixed them up with the cultures that invaded the islands) is still there after all this time, amazing isn't it?
Also, the country isn't as Asian because It's ethnically and culturally part Austronesean.

    • @kwazooplayingguardsman5615
      @kwazooplayingguardsman5615 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Gifari Andika Ferisqo we didn't lose our culture, our culture is similar to spain's and the latinized world but its not a carbon copy of it, filipino culture is unique since rather than adopting spanish culture aggressively, we molded it alongside our own traditions, our national language isn't latin, our national dresses is uniquely filipino, and many of our oral traditions are also uniquely filipino too.
Besides, who are you to judge? Isn't thailand whorehouse of asean?

Baro't Saya is an indigenous clothing being worn by our pre-colonial ancestors. It was ours and always be ours. You can never find it on Spain, Mexico or any other former Spanish colonies. It was only made in the Philippines by Filipinos. You could find the Manila shawl being worn by Spanish Flamenco dancers though it was from the Philippines ((see the "Manila" word?)) So what if we have Hispanised culture in every way you could see in our country and our people? It was never our fault to be colonised in the first place. Why do other SEA countries retained their culture? Well in the first place, we were the first country to be colonised in the SEA region and it was for 333 years. Spain brought its food, culture, music, architecture, art, education to our country and most of our ancestors embraced it alongside Christianity ((we weren't forced)). We are never a copy cat lol. Commenting something like that will only makes you appear a foolish person.
Philippines is a Hispanic country in culture.
Philippines is Asian because we are ethnically Malays!
Philippines is Americanised because we speak English.
So what if we have multiple identities? At the end of each debate or any conversation about us, you people can never take our pride on being a mix child of the East and the West. We may be Europenised but that doesn't mean we don't forget our Asian culture. It's just the dominant culture that represents us the most is the Hispanic culture.

@@nguyenpuoc5364 if you knew history well, Dutch colonized Indonesia just to exploit their riches and spices, just for commercial benefits as in they came just for business. They never intended to influence their culture. But Spain was different. The Spaniards considered the Philippines as her "own". They influenced the overall culture of our country (religion, language, literature, clothing, dance...just to name a few). They change our way of life. But I'm not saying that Spanish are all good. Of course there are records of oppression and abuses they have done with our natives and lands. But that's not the point. Their influences are very significant that we can't just simply throw it all away. The Dutch of course influenced Indonesia somehow but not as profound and strong as the Spanish influences in the Philippines. Just look at the culture of Latin America. That's how deep the influences of the Spanish to its former colonies.

someone loveyou Not all is lost.
Other cultures copy others too you know? The Baro' t Saya is just a Hispanicized version of the native traditional dress. There's plenty of other native clothes that are worn before Spanish Conquest in case you don't know.

we have a lot of traditional costumes. They only showcase the barot saya because its our national custume. If you see all of our different custumes you will say that its very trully south east asia. And most of it you cant find in any asian countries.

    • @lovinavargas2967

Your ignorance is reflected on your comment. Baro't saya is an indigenous clothing just so you know. Filipinos are not copy as you claim for the national dress is made in the Philippines just like the Mexican national costume. We are Hispanic by culture and we're colonized for more than 3 centuries that's why we have a very Latin culture similar to our brothers in Latin America. We may be lost now but that doesn't mean we're copy cat. Don't be ignorant for many people will only insult you and read some books will you?
