    Cleaning the inside of your playstation console is the best way to ensure its cooling efficiency and prevent unwanted electronic components failure due to overheating.
    I’m Max from lifehackermax and since I’ve been receiving such a positive feedback on my PS4 Cleaning tutorial, I thought: why not clean my PS3 as well.
    So: In this video I will take apart my super slim playstation 3 console in order to clean it.

    Why didn't you replace the thermal compound? Once you have disturbed it by taking the heatsink assembly off (and the fact the paste is years old) means you have essentially made the cooling worse...

    • @LifeHackerMax

      I believe that I said in the video: The thermal paste was replaced sometime before the video and I recommend changing the paste. There also is a pinned comment saying you should change the paste. Actually my PS3 works as it should. Thank you Dave 👍🏼

    SONY SUCKS because their PS consoles stop reading discs, their consoles over heat due to not enough vents or the vents are not large enough, their consoles have a dust problem, and "drum roll", those DANG wireless controllers not connecting or not charging. And thats why I don't want to buy their PS5.

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will take a wild guess and say that your console is overheating and the fan starts spinning really fast. You might need a thermal paste change and full cleaning. I would advise you to stop playing until you get the thermal paste changed and cleaning before your chips get damaged from overheating.

    Very good slow and easy tutorial! I just got an overheat shutdown on my very old PS3. I cleaned the Fan and the PSU, not so much dust, should I think on replacing the thermal paste maybe? Is there any way to see the temps?

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! On the PS3 it is kind of mandatory to change the thermal paste once you separate the radiator from the processors. I don’t know about the temp monitor. Sorry.

    • @bbogdanmircea

      @@LifeHackerMax Ok, I did not separate them, just disassembles everything and vacuumed and not it is working. Probably I will assemble it back and if it still overheats I will buy the thermal paste and replace that too.

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the thermal paste it’s not applied correctly it might be inefficient. Too much is bad, too little is bad, uneven is bad. I suggest redoing the thermal paste. Maybe watch a couple more videos on how to do it or ask for help to be sure it is done properly. Beforehand check if the fan is plugged in and functioning correctly. If your console gets too hot for too long you might end up with a broken console, so in my opinion it is a good idea to recheck everything one more time if you feel like something it off. I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the video so i bought a super slim 5 years ago and i have never open it to clean it cause i was afraid i will damage it but i will do it so i have a question after i do this will the hard drive keep all it's data? or the ps3 will wipe everything out? i'm asking because if that's the case i should get my saves into a USB drive.

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The hard drive is not affected in any way by the cleaning process unless you short circuit something or brake something on the motherboard or maybe drop your hdd and brake it. Replacing the thermal paste is mandatory if you take apart the PS3. You will find lots of tutorials about this. It is the same on any microprocessor so the video doesn’t necessarily have to be about the PS3. You should know there are 2 places for thermal paste (I indicated them in my video). Backing up your data is never a bad idea BTW. Good luck 👍🏼.

    Is it okay if the bottom shield of the motherboard is rusty? Or should I replace it?

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I don’t really know to say for sure. I think you can try cleaning out the rust with some fine sandpaper before replacing it (I had some rust on my ps3 and I just cleaned it with some sandpaper and it worked out well. The question is where did you get humidity from and fix that issue first.

    I don't own a brush. Is there anything else I can use to clean the system that would be just as effective as a brush?

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You don’t need a special kind of brush. It can be a painting brush, a makeup brush, a big brush for bricolage 🤷🏽. You could also try a tooth brush but it might be hard to get into some places with that one. I can’t think of anything that can replace the brush.

    • @LifeHackerMax

      Cleaning the console is a good maintenance practice and can fix loud noise and overheating problems. But with the PS3 you should also change the thermal paste if you clean it. Otherwise you could do more harm to it.

    in 0:59 is it T8 screwdriver or another size?

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      T stands for Torx (the shape / the star like shape of the bit) and the 8 stands for the size of the bit. Be careful though, this is a special security bit (has a hole in the middle). Normal torx do not have that security hole. And don’t forget about the thermal paste. That has to be changed once you separate the cooler from the processors (read the other comments here). Good luck 🍀👍🏼.

    • @LifeHackerMax
      @LifeHackerMax  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends where are you from I guess: you can find the thermal paste in electronic hobby shops or computes shops or online, the screwdriver 🪛 i have is from Wolfcraft and I bought it from Hornbach (is a bricolage store). If you can’t find the one with the hole in the middle you can try using a normal torx by braking the small pins inside the screws with a little flat screwdriver (I don’t know how well this works because I haven’t tried it, i just read about it and it seemed logical).

      The ribbons are ok but they are placed facing the right way too? You can easily place them the other way around and they won’t make contact. When something doesn’t work for me I usually undo the work and do it again. Also check if the security tabs are pressed on the ribbon sockets.

UPDATE after playing more paste burn-in all works perfectly like it should quiet and smooth
