- The last PlayStation 3 console released by Sony in 2012, the PS3 Super Slim makes no exception in terms of maintenance. It needs to be cleaned as any other console. In this video I fully disassembly the PS3 Super Slim, I clean it and I also replaced its thermal paste.
Now my PS3 Super Slim is silent and working like new.

Realized my Super Slim turns 10 this year, and I've never taken it apart to clean it. Followed along with your video and all went well and she's MUCH quieter now. Thanks!
Your voice would fit for paranormal videos.
😂
Lol
Lmfao, btw using this video to clean my one xD
You called it the worst ps3, but in reality it is actually the best ps3 ! Maybe not a looker but the inerds are solid and reliable. No worrying and disk drive issue either.
Still relevant in 2024! Thank you for the video! Very detailed.
I cleaned my ps3 based on your video. Everything went fine. Thank you!
Thanks a lot ive had overheating issues for 2 years now...Now my PS3 sounds like an electric car very silent🤛🔥🍻
Followed your video step by step. 100% success. I also cleaned inside the psu. 2 screws. Simple.
Awesome
I had only one little problem (meaning my ps3 works, but...) When I connected the two front cables for the disk reader, the wider cable wouldn't get back in, I did push it so the reader works while the ps3 is horizontal, but as soon as I put it upside down the cable slips away and the reader doesn't work... Why did that happen?
Thank's man, I really appreciate your effort to make a tutorial like this. Everything is clear and easily shown how to do it 👌
This is by far the BEST Instruction for cleaning your PS3, thank you so much, it was a pleasure 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video. I took 2 defect ps3s and put them together for 1 working with this tutorial. Thank you
Thank you very much, I can go back to playing cod bo2 zombies after like two years of this thing sitting in a dark and dusty corner
Bro do you play COD BO1 zombs??
Perfect video showing break down and reassemble. Very easy to follow and understand. Thank you for making this.
Very good teardown and clean. Have just bought a second hand superslim and will refer to your video. Many thanks
Definitely subscribing. Love it when TH-camrs make things as simple as possible 😎
Once I cleaned my PS3, same model, the fans never made noise again 👌🏻
16:40 Hardest part about this whole thing was putting this damn thing back on.
It came right on for me
hell yeah
Thank you for doing this. I have just stripped and cleaned my son's PS3 using this guide 👍
Awesome video, easy to understand. Thanks!
Thank you very much. Your video helped me a lot. It is clear and the words are simple and focused on the important and simple things. The operation was completed successfully
Glad to hear that
Thanks so much for this video! I cleaned it and put new thermal paste in it, and it works like new 😁
Very clear explanation from the start to end and back to start. You help me to revive my PS3!
Glad to hear
Thank You so very much I was nervous about replacing the thermal paste on my two ps3 super slim systems since I got them new in 2012 I have only cleaned the fan in the past but I followed your guide and repasted both of my ps3 and thay work outstanding now thanks
Great video to follow along so no trouble will happen
Thanks a lot :) my PS3 is like brand new again 🎉
Excellent tutorial brother.

Thank you for the tutorial
Thanks bro! Very much appreciated
Hah, at the end, I was working along with this to reassemble and started cracking up because he said another one a few times for the screws, reminded me of DJ Khaled😂. Great video, thank you very much for posting. It made the process easy!
thanks a lot man!
Friend , this two silver screws with strange format... who's make pression on sink.
I lost him , and i can't find to buy in everywhere. did you know where I find them ?
Great job bug help thanks bro
Thanks for good vidéo 👍🏿
Appreciate it ✌️
Thank you.
thank you so much
My ps3 super slim , just recently after about an hour of play ( gta v) the fan goes super loud so I’m guessing its in need of a clean and re paste, hoping I’m not to late🙏. Ive watched quite a few youtube tutorials on the process ,as I’ve never done anything like this before , but your video is the most clear and concise I’ve watched. Just waiting on the delivery of mx paste and security screwdriver kit and I’ll be good to go. Cant wait to see how little or lots of dust is in mine 😂
Thankyou for a great video 👍🏻
Turns out the dust wasn’t as bad as expected! Followed your video stage by stage, no problem other than getting the new paste to stay stuck evenly to the two chips, was a bit of a faff. Put it all back together, crossed my fingers and played gta v for 3 hours with no fan issues at all. Hopefully Ive saved my ps3 thanks to your video, thank you 👍🏻
Not gonna lie, you sound like a James Bond villain, but this is a great video, thank you
Great video, love the attention to detail. Unfortunately for some reason mine isnt powering back on. I even bought another psu thinking i did something to existing one. Everything is plugged in as it should be but there is no red light when i plug it in and there is even a little crackling near the power supply when i plug it in. Ugh, not sure where I went wrong as it worked before i cleaned it
Thanks.. i managed to clean my ps3 super slim and change cmos battery
I seldomly use my super slim ps3 and a week ago, it's overheating. I suspect it's the thermal paste being dry and I was right. I have never done this on the super slim ps3. Your video help and I'm going to put it in my favorite folder. Thanks.
Thanks 🎉❤
Where is the link for the thermal paste n the rubbing were can i get them i have the tool but i just need the other 2
Yay
the tutorial worked 100% :D
My PS3 when creating a world in Minecraft, the fan speed would reach 50% and it was like a plane but now it is way better at 34% max fan speed
It was not that dirty but it had no thermopaste
Thx you are the best and your voice fitted well
Serious voice
!!!RECOMMENDED!!!
Glad to hear that
Hey, so I just put it back together, but I found a spring for like a lever or something where I was working on it. Is that part in the ps3, and if so, which part? The spring looks like a V with a circle in the middle. If its important I want to put it back even if I just finished putting it back together 😮💨
Thank you very much for the time you put on preparing this tutorial. I really appreciated it. Best of wishes my friend. May the Force be with you.
Thank you very much for your time and patience. This cleaning saved my ps3 from over heating.
Thnx
Thank ❤
Think you 😊
I used this video as my PS3 was getting dangerously hot watching blu rays after a few hours, it was noisy too. After following your video I was able to clean all the dust out, which has made it quieter, but there wasn't much dust in it. I replaced the thermal paste (didn't know which one to buy as I can't find anything online about which one should be used) so just bought thermal paste. Applied the same amount as you in the video, but after 4hrs work on it today, the console is still red hot after around an hour of use. It's not any cooler. I don't know what to do with it. A guy in a local computer shop told me to clean the dust out and replace the paste too, and use TH-cam videos, and I have..😪
I found a intire onion and fruit salad under the shell and some green mold on the gpu
😂
have you/has anyone received an over temp message 5 mins after boot up then the machine powers itself down? I thought refreshing the thermal paste might sort it but no luck. thanks tech for the great video.
Grazie ho pulito la mia ps3
can somebody please tell me the names of the ribbon cables one of mine broke and i dont know the name
What thermal paste was used?
I finally finished it after 6 hours
This was a great guide. Thank you!
What size star/hex bit do you use in the 2 inner disc screws? I've tried all my tools available and I don't have the right size.. please help
I only used Torx TR8
@@YesterdaysTech tysm🙏
Hello, i have a small problem afer doing all the steps the only issue i see is ps3 not reading my disc. I'm pretty sure the problem is the ribbon cable from the back. I can't find any explanation on how to put it correctly, could you explained how to put that cable in the right place?
Try to follow the video, that would be the easiest way
Avanes, were you able to figure it out?
what if i take the power chord out and blow it with a vaccumm cleaner's blower and plug the console back after 15 minutes
will be be efficient too?
Not that much
I've never done something like this before but Skyrim and DA: Inquisition kept crashing and then she made a TERRIBLE sound of agony. So! I opened my PS3 up along to this video.
Me, struggling to get plastic plates off my prized gaming baby: I-I-I don't know Slavic man, it feels like its going to break 😟😟😟
Yesterday's Tech: Do Not Worry, Small Goblin. It Will Not Break. Do You Trust Me, Small Goblin?
Me, visibly crying but with renewed strength: I trust you Slavic Man 🥺
And it worked 🤟
So thanks bro
What do u recommend for anyone who’s afraid that putting it back together might not go so well?
To be focused and patient, it will succeed
Thanks bro, I screwed the PS3 back in, now I have 6 screws left😂
Great video, thankfully my ps3 was already REALLY clean. All I had to do was put new thermal paste on and boom. Also is it normal for blueray disk to spin up and down while playing randomly?
I don’t really understand what you mean by spinning up and down, however, it’s quite normal to move and if everything works fine, you shouldn’t be worried
@@YesterdaysTech My bad, what I mean is, is it normal for disk to spin while playing games on ps3?
@@RainGammayes? Lol
@@RainGammado you mean while you are playing you will at random hear the spinning of the disk become much louder for a time?
My PS3 super slim stopped reading game discs and blu-ray but still plays regular dvd movies. Im wondering if a cleaning and new thermal paste would fix this issue. Fingers crossed 🤞
If it stops reading discs, and especially if it's reading one type of disc but not another, it's the laser. No thermal paste will fix the laser, but if you're already opening it up, it's a good time for a clean and some new thermal paste.
My PS3 fat started acting strangely with BD games and movies but played CD, PS1, PS2 and DVD just fine. Eventually anything BD stopped working completely. For that model you can choose to replace just the laser, the laser cartridge or the entire disc drive. I went for cartridge and it turned out fine. I don't know for superslim but if you're gonna replace something you might as well order something larger than the smallest component and have your broken one as backup.
why does the ps3 get hot all the time before this disassembly there when I opened the previous owner's ps3 it had dried out thermal paste etc. i.e. do I need to change the thermal paste and how much or little of it
Yes, it’s good to replace the thermal paste. In very high demanding games it’s normal to get a bit hot
@@YesterdaysTech how do I apply the thermal paste, is one drop enough and I apply it? at first I put a large amount on it and spread it and piled the ps3 and turned it on and the ps3 got hot
I replaced the thermal paste in this video, just do as I did and will work perfectly fine. In what game is getting hot?
@@YesterdaysTech uncharded 3 and when i turn on the ps3 the fan starts spinning hard as soon as it turns on and without the disc inside but it hasn't turned off so it's hot from the back otherwise
I only have torx T8, can it be used instead of the tr8? And ph2 instead of the ph0 and ph1?
You can try, sometimes Phillips Screwdrivers work even if they’re bigger in size. If your Torx doesn’t have a hole in the middle, I don’t think it will work as a Security Torx
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This might be a stupid question but will I break one of the parts if I take it apart the wrong way?
It shouldn’t break
@@YesterdaysTech Ok, thanks, cuz someone in my house thought it might, so I’ll give this a try if mine ever overheats again
Thank you so much,I just have a question, is it fine if you don't apply the thermal past?
It will work but I recommend to not skip this step and apply some. Any thermal paste would be better than none
@@YesterdaysTech Thsnk you i will try and find some
I'm scared of the disassemble process I don't want to mess anything up but yet I can tell my ps3 needs a clean too
If it's a fan and loud noise, just Q tip and blow out the fan. No need to disassemble everything.
Hey, after cleaning my ps3 my minecraft which is a pakage game is working very well but idk why but wyenever i am launching multiman my ps3 just freezes and i have to unplug and plug to restart it
Pls help me id anyone is also facing this issue, what should i do?
I don't think Multiman has anything to do with the cleaning, maybe reinstalling it may help
@@YesterdaysTech yay thx it helped a lot thx :D
Just removed and reinstalled the hard drive and it is all working well :D
You saved my ps3 and my life :D
1:32 hi brother can you help me with the screw at the following time stamp
It spins forever and can’t be pulled out
I tried to pull it out with a nose plier still stuck
Try with some strong pliers, it should work, but I recommend to not put it back at the end... just leave it without...
@@YesterdaysTech you sure that pulling it out wont cause a problem or like the break the insides bcs the plastic it is made of seems cheap
ive realized that my ps4 had become literal junk in just 4 years and i had cleaned but my 10+ yr old ps3 has never been opened
Just in case you don't want to break the little retaining tabs on the two trim pieces, they slide to the left. You don't press in on the edges
i did everything but it doesnt seem to show anynthing like it doesnt even have the red light
You missed something when you assembled it
Also my cpu does have any logo is says a12z bionic I’m confused
What’s the series of your PS3 Super Slim? You made me curious
Can I use Noctua Thermal Paste?
Yes
2:47 “blck and very long”😏🤣
Just bump , well done. Cleaning mine rn using this vid , cheers ;D
i fully completely ruined my ps3, after i cleaned everything and assembled it back to together and turned it on and it started to make a loud sound and the screen would not load up, sound was loud coming from the fan and lots of air being pushed out 😔
Hi if I do not have a torx screw is there any other way to open the screw??
I recommend to get the right tools, otherwise you may damage the screws
@@YesterdaysTech ok thank you! btw can you send a link of your torx screw if possible?
I have mine since years ago and I don’t find this one in particular, but any tools shop should have them. For being future proof, also for more teardown, make sure it’s included Torx T8, T9 and T10 with a hole in the middle. They’re sometimes known as Torx TR8, TR9 and TR10.
@@YesterdaysTech ok thanks
Great video but why didn't you show how to open and clean psu?
Most of the times it's not needed to disassembly the PSU, usually, using a vacuum cleaner it's enough
What to do if i dont have termal paste
Get some thermal paste before starting
will this help and the console will not freeze during the game?
Tried to reinstall the motherboard and couldn't line up the L shaped clip
Were both PS3 consoles the same series?
Yes! I figured it out. Thank you!!
Is there a blow dust option in super slim ps3 version?? Without opening it ??
I don't think so
Actually yesterday I did this to my console
Today I had the black screen of death 😢
I can't do the very first step.I don't know why
Love how you fail to show HOW the back cable gets connected to the dvd, it is impossible to get that one back!
