  • In this new show ''EQUAL'' I let my guest tell their story of life in China by asking a series of questions. In this first episode, I interviewed an American who shared her honest experience living and working in Beijing, China.
Naomi explained how safe she felt living in China compared to America and she's disappointed with the U.S. safety.

After landing in Beijing, we traveled to Xian, Chongqing, Shanghai and Guangzhou all by the bullet train with my aunt in her wheelchair. To summarize, China in one word is fantastic and so are Chinese people. We plan to visit again this coming September but this time to the Sichuan food trail as well as tech trail starting with Chengdu and beyond. Xie Xie China.

Not only Americans but everyone in the world should understand what freedom is all about.
Freedom can only be achieved if we can live safely and comfortably without feeling afraid of threats from street thugs, criminals, pickpockets, thieves, robbers, rapists, extortionists, staying at home without feeling afraid, leaving the house in the morning, afternoon and evening, we feel safe and no need to worry of getting attacked or robbed.
In life we do not need to be frightened with religion. If you want to worship, it's okay, it is also okay if you chose not to, there's no threat of going to hell, being told with this and that lies which are no different from seeing animal dung.
No more fighting and killing for religion and ideology.
Freedom is not about speech, free to criticise, to scold or to insult others, especially a country leader.
It is the duty of the state officers and leaders to work hard to ensure the safety of their people, so that their people can enjoy a safe and comfortable life, instead of living in a state of anxiety and worry. The government should take care the health and safety for every subject as taxpayer. Except for natural catastrophy, fire or accidents, the subjects do not need to buy other kind of safety insurance, such as for robbery and theft.
When a country has already been able to achieve all this, then we can call it "FREEDOM".

Very well articulated. For those who think that having freedom is having the freedom to lie, cheat, steal, curse and swear at whoever they want, condemn others without knowing the facts; that's the freedom that is not generally appreciated, or even wanted in any Asian culture. Hopefully such people will keep it for themselves, within and about their own home country.

So very true, we visited China for 1st time, we have never felt so free, no one trying to scam you, no beggars or homeless in Beijing or Shanghai we had seen for 3 weeks; the streets are so clean, unbelievable for cities of 25 million to 30 million each! When we got back to Australia, we see filth and lots of homelessness and our biggest cities are only 5-6 million each

The city was built by the CCP with high debts and the collusion of a large number of government officials and businessmen. Security is achieved by plundering the people and controlling physical threats through their thoughts, and cleanliness is achieved by various hidden taxes and the ruthless urban management of the party-state supported by deceit and abduction. So everything will eventually be passed on to the people at the bottom to repay it, and you can't see the people at the bottom of China. Hello, I'm the individual Sheku interviewed in this video.
After reading through some of the comments, I'd like to clarify a few points.

Firstly, the interview wasn't politically driven; it consisted of simple questions comparing certain aspects between the USA and China. I want to emphasize that I don't speak for Chinese people; my responses are based solely on my personal experience as a foreigner teaching in China for just a year. It's crucial to recognize this distinction.

Secondly, the definition of culture in the US differs from that in China. As I highlighted in one of my responses, the US lacks a cohesive culture in the same manner as China. The US is a melting pot of cultures, but regrettably, in recent years, this diversity has led to increased divisions (e.g., a rise in identity politics). It's important to note that I'm not implying the US is inherently negative or lacking in culture. Instead, I emphasize that comparing the two is challenging due to the distinct cultural structures inherent in the US and China, respectively. I may have not expressed myself as clearly as I could have regarding this point. I can understand the criticism.

Thirdly, the nature of my 'accent' is irrelevant to the conversation. If you must know, I grew up in a bilingual household. I am indeed a US citizen, born there and filing taxes there. As a legal requirement, I continue to file and pay taxes in the US even though I'm abroad. The 'accent' should not be used to undermine my perspective as an American citizen, who votes and continues to fulfill tax obligations towards the US.

Moreover, being a citizen of the following countries: UK, Canada, USA, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, is a mandatory requirement to become an English teacher in China. You can verify this information yourself, as it is readily available online.

Finally, it's essential to understand my role here. I'm an English teacher, not a diplomat, political scientist, or political historian. I'm not here to influence Chinese legislation, government, or power structures. I am here to teach English to children and young adults. The interview aimed to explore cultural, safety, and food differences. I've provided my answers in the most unbiased and honest manner.

I'm not Chinese; I'm American. My focus is on matters in my own country, and I appreciate the opportunity to share my experiences without veering into areas beyond my expertise or knowledge.

    Thank you for understanding.

The China described by the Western media is completely different from the real China I see.The greening of the city is very good, and there are many electric cars on the street, which proves that the Chinese government attaches great importance to environmental protection. What impresses me the most is that life is very convenient, a cashless society, the subway system is very new and clean, and the people are very friendly.Other than some culture shock, You can also go out late at night. China's technological level is beyond my imagination. I believe that the most important freedom is the ability to live a secure and affordable life. A colleague of mine who worked in China for two years shares the sentiment that China is an extremely safe country. This aspect has been discussed extensively, especially for women, and it truly provides a sense of ease and comfort. Furthermore, the prices of daily essentials such as food, clothing, shelter, and transportation are very reasonable, making life in China less burdensome compared to here. Locals fondly enjoy traveling and dining out at restaurants. In our country, my colleague would calculate how to order meals more economically when dining out. However, in China, one only needs to consider what they enjoy and what they would like to try. The traffic, prices, and services in China are so reasonably priced that it stirs up envy. Therefore, from this perspective, Chinese people enjoy the most important and core freedoms.

I meant like China isnt small country, with 1.4B local population, how do you want the central government "open wider"? There is no restriction of visiting China since 1980, except Tibet due to insurgent faction by neighborhood country,
If you meant open wider by granting Perma Residence(Green Card) and local assimilation, well that is surely disasters.
Funfact tho, foreign student entitled for more scholarship and gov subsidy compare to local student. Similarly with One Child Policy's only applied to Han Chinese but not the rest 52 ethnic minority. It seems that quite a few foreigners from English speaking countries are "whingeing" that they have to learn how to speak Chinese in order to get anywhere in China. Fact - people in China speak Chinese. What do they expect? Go to Japan and the people there speak Japanese. Go to Italy and the people there speak Italian. Go to France and surprise, surprise - the people there speak French. Go to Spain and they speak Spanish.
In the early days of the California Gold Rush, Chinese who wanted to find a better life in the U.S., have to learn some conversational English and willing to work at any job they could find from hard laboring jobs on the railroad to washing laundry and starting little restaurants. They didn't expect Americans to speak Chinese nor were there any schools available for the Chinese immigrants to teach Chinese to the English speaking students. The same thing was encountered by Italians and Greeks who migrated to the U.S. - they all have to learn English. In fact, not only are there schools that teach Chinese in many Western countries as well as courses being available on line but one can get language translating tools the size of a smartphone - which are all not available in the early years for foreigners.
The early migrants were brave and hardy. They didn't whine about the fact that they have to learn and adapt, no matter how hard life would be in the new country where they would be discriminated against. At least in modern China, this does not happen to the western foreigner who is more likely to be accepted as long as they do not do silly things like crime and engage in anti-social acts.
These days in China, merely being able to speak English or any foreign language is not enough for one to land a job teaching local Chinese students - China has lifted up the standards for foreign teachers and proper formal qualifications are required to be able to teach. So, if you want to teach any subject, get yourself qualified - just llke in any other country. The world is becoming more and more competitive and "easy street" is fast disappearing.

👍!My question is who created that division? I am a Chinese who lives in the U.S. now. American people's hatred towards China is beyond me. I don't know what that kind of hatred comes from? who can tell me? 100 RMB is about 15 dollars.

I can tell you. I am over 70, growing up in HK. Most people still have the perception of the old China and do not perceive the drastic change in the last 20 years. And the US politicians are using this outdated perception to demonize now the modern China for their political gains. And many with white supremacy can't accept China now is not below them.

Western mainstream media. The military-industrial complex needs enemies to profit. Without enemies, the US people will figure out that the US is a plutocracy spending trillions on war but no money for infrastructure or homelessness. Elections are scams cuz all candidates are working for oligarchs.

The American politics has always been running on hatred and fear. To keep the populace in check, the government always have to give the people something to fear and hate. Now it so happens to be China.

the division comes from largely U$ and UK, so called western propaganda.
the purpose is the pursuant of monroe doctrine, the U$ exceptionalism, aka "manifest destiny" a bit like Adolf and Aryan race who consider themselves god chosen people.
All our lives we are programmed to think capitalism is the best system, trickle down economies from wealthy class to peasant class is da best, but of course, once you have unfettered wealth, you simply corrupt the democratic processes, and all governing systems and checks as you can see in the U$ led west, all govts are infiltrated by corporate shills. Govts don't work for the people anymore and you see a return to feudalism, but with corrupted technologies, west are losing their control even with constant propaganda and thus they will enact laws that controls every aspect of your life aka totalitarianism (fascism), Canada has openly embraced a nutzi officer in parliament.....that is scary development.

Life is short and should be spend on getting to know people and countries better. In the outer space when we look down on earth, we hardly see our self, just sand on earth. We will return to earth in due course. So spend your time wisely with better knowledge and enjoy to the fullness.

Spot on. I just returned from a week in Nanjing and Shanghai. Air pollution remains an issue in Shanghai and elsewhere, but this is also improving quickly with electric mopeds, electric cars & renewables. The streets are SO much quieter now vs 20 years ago due to all these EVs.

We have to admit that America was once a great country. Yet, every country has its good side or bad side. I think America and other Western countries should try to learn the good things from China instead of suppressing the growth and development of China, especially by spreading all those untruth information about China.
