It is hard enough to give birth and seeing your child go through leukaemia and another child going through bone marrow to save their siblings, but you will feel even more guilty when you don't do anything and your child die knowing you did nothing. So you do need to pick and choose your battles, and you don't know the stem cells that they take can be from another child the same age as their own daughter.

In the end if the kid's very young the parents will decide... so I guess then you'd have to say that a sibling is never allowed to even be tested so this situation doesn't happen.
A wise mother would know that it's not just about having a perfect match for the needs of her daughter but to be there for their three kids. I can't imagine a son going completely unnoticed by their parents, a girl fighting leukaemia alone and a baby who eventually will kwon that his very existence is to provide organs to his sister and the reason why his own mom died.
The baby won’t “donate organs” only stem cells. I had a bone marrow transplant from a live male donor but he was 36. Sometimes your donor can be a sibling or even from the blood of an umbilical cord since cord blood is absolutely full of fresh stem cells.
Apparently, there’s a novel about this kind of story. A girl was born for the sole purpose of donating to her Leukemia sister, she get fed up when her parents want her to donate her kidney to her sister and decide to sue the family for mistreatment. You should have a read. Extremely well-written.

Having kid after kid to save one of your kids, and neglecting the one's that are not a match is unethical. I get why the mom does that, but the girl she's fighting for could end up in a very bad state believing she was the reason why her mom died, also if the new baby lives it will be seen just as an organ source/donor nothing more and that's extremely detrimental for the child's well being and development.

True how the mother is disgusting for bringing children into the world just to save her first child. However, if I grew up knowing that I saved my siblings life by simply just existing I'd feel like a hero. the fact that one human can save another humans life through blood and organ donation is insane and amazing. But totally think the mother is crazy for just thinking of one person and neglecting the rest of the family like that
I can understand wanting to save your child, but they only thought about themselves. The fact in, that little girl is going to always know that her sibling was born to be taken apart for her and her mother risked dying for her. That level of guilt.... I can't imagine. And then the child that was born as an organ farm.... If they treat the kid well, out of love and guilt, they might keep putting up with the surgery's once they have a choice, but if not... seriously traumatic. Although the baby wasn't fully developed, wouldn't it still have some bone marrow and cerebral fluid? Obviously only a tiny amount, but would it be able to make any difference?
I doubt they would be able to extract more than a tiny drop. If I heard correctly, she was in her fifth month, so the baby would have been severely underdeveloped. And seeing as it is stage four leukemia, it would have been a drop on hot stone.
If the mother had managed to go full term, and the baby still didn’t survive I think the last option would have been the blood from the umbilical cord. I had a live donor who was a male 36 when I had my BMT at 17 however I know some people who have had their cells come from donated umbilical cords. If this was a real life case though, I don’t think the cord would have been developed enough either.
Also in terms of the guilt, survivors guilt hits every cancer patient. We don’t take the sacrifices of others very lightly. When I had my transplant I had a few friends have theirs around the same time however over time they began to relapse and the fact that I’m still cancer free (although the side effects are crippling me) I can’t help but feel immense guilt that mine worked and theirs didn’t. I’d also refrain from the idea of using “organ farm”. It causes fear mongering and terminology like that is exactly why so many people are dying waiting for transplants and even blood transfusions since a lot of people like to make donation out to be painful or scary when I think it’s a beautiful thing.
I'm pretty sure they took thise drastic measure due to how the treatment aren't working properly with the daughter. She can't have another pregnancy. Finding and affording a surrogate is unlikely. This is such a terrible situation.
@@megsmith6758 Masks are used so that people who are sick won't transmit the infection. So it would be useless for the kid to wear a mask. Use your logic.

"Bone marrow and kidney..." This is a reference to the book and movie "My sister's keeper", and the whole thing is a huge misunderstanding. Savior siblings donate, usually, only the umbilical cord's blood. To donate the bone marrow is accepted only if extremely necessary, but kidney and liver are never taken if the savior sibling is under 18, because hospital and transplant committees refuse to accept organs from underage donors, even if the latters agree with it.
I watched this video. Out of all the family, I would've listened to the little girl that has leukemia. She seems to be very smart and understands everything that is happening. Her thinking & worrying about everyone else and not about herself breaks my heart. I know it's a tv show, but I wish I could give her a big hug and her leukemia would just disappear.
While I understand the lengths the parents were willing to go to save their daughters life, the whole time they were referring the baby as like a thing and not their child
Am I the only one devastated for the baby!?It's fucked up they saw no problem with only having another child just to be a living doner for their daughter.I understand their situation but whenever the mom talked about wanting the baby to live it was all 'its for my daughter' 'please save the baby for my daughter's sake'🤬
My daughter has ALL ( acute lymphoblastic leukaemia ) We are very very lucky as all three of her sisters are a match for her and considering each one only had a 25% chance of being a match we consider it miraculous that all three are a perfect match. With that being said, we will never force them to be that match, they are all over the age of 18 but we understand that guilt plays a big part in their decision, were the stem cell transplant not to work they would always feel some level of guilt that their stem cells couldn't have saved their sisters and always wonder if any of their other sister's stem cells would of saved her. We want them all to go through counselling before making such a decision and we have time as our daughter with ALL is currently in remission. We will only need to consider a stem cell transplant should she relapse. No parent should force their child to donate any part of their body to their sibling without their express consent and counselling first and in this case a baby is being bred to act as spare parts for their sister which is unethical.
It's great that the mom's doing everything she can for the little girl's life but killing herself to save her daughter's life is way too much. The girl would feel terrible that the mom gave up her life to save her.
Ok, what she is trying to say is that she felt bad about the baby because when its born the child would be stripped away of there organs just for them to save thier sick child , And while the girl gets all the mothers attention the baby was just used as a cure .
I’ll admit I’ve never experienced having a child with cancer, but in my opinion having a saviour baby is just so disgusting. I understand wanting to do absolutely everything to save your child but to use a human being as spare parts it’s just awful. They call their current daughter my daughter, and the child that’s in her body she just called the baby not my baby. She does not care about the child she’s growing, and as the daughter says neither parent really cares about the son either and he is a living child. Life for that baby would be hell. A child is not spare parts, and they should never be forced into giving anything to sustain the life of another child. I understand it is a horrible situation but I cannot see a reason to force a tiny little baby to go through any of that and receive nothing in return not even the love of their parents.
The mum thinks she failed her daughter- no she survived so she could look after her lil girl. Ur not ment to make me cry 😭😭😭. But this episode i am crying so hard
I like it when tv shows and movies involve saviour siblings, siblings born to save an older one. I am a saviour sibling, born to save my older sister and let me tell you, it isn’t as popular as many think. There are laws protecting the kids and if you choose the IVF route, many people actually get denied because the doctors believe the baby won’t be treated as an equal and there is also the risk of the baby having the same condition. It’s always interesting to see how people react to saviour siblings and what the audience thinks. Also helps us saviour siblings explain what we are to people when we have things like my sisters keeper to compare it too. Trust me when I say, saviour siblings have their own views on the matter and our creation and it isn’t all good. After all, we were born to be spare parts for someone else but I don’t think anyone can have a view on this until you’re a parent in that situation of watching your child die or you’ve grown up knowing your a saviour sibling. Anyone have any questions just ask.
@@sunnybunny6275honestly, not really but I don’t think it was their fault completely. My sister has a rare illness meaning she will die one day of her illness and it’s likely I’ll have to donate something to keep her alive longer. The first few years of my life, she was so sick my parents couldn’t take care of me so I was passed between family members. They even had a time table, Monday to Thursday night my grandparents house and Thursday to Monday night my aunts house. I don’t think they ever had a chance to bond with me while I was young so it kind of put a strain on the relationship early on and by the time they did start taking care of me, my little sister was born. I was seen more as a helper in the household, someone to help with my sisters illness and to take care of my little sister. Honestly just like in the clip with what the girl said about her brother being ignored, it’s kind of like that, not just with me but with others. I know other saviour siblings, I was a part of a club as a kid where we would meet up every year in the summer, it was a way for us to deal with who we are and meet others so we didn’t feel alone, I don’t know who set it up. As kids we felt like we were special in a way, because we were born with a purpose while most people are born accidents but as we got older, learned more about what we are and what we were born for, it became more like a burden. The other people I know were rather ignored because they had a sick sibling or treated special because of what they did but that also affected the relationship as they didn’t want their whole existence to be about something none of us had a choice in. I think relationships between parents and saviour siblings is ultimately down to why age to tell them. I was raised knowing it, it was passed in conversation like asking how are you, but I know others who weren’t told until they were older and they became mad because there whole existence was a lie. Some parent choose not to tell their kids, as long as they’re sure the older kid won’t get sick again, and sometimes I think that’s the best decision so the saviour sibling doesn’t have to grow up believing they’re just an organ bank on standby. Other saviour siblings might have different views but that’s just what i see and hear. With any kids born into a family with a sibling with a disability, I don’t think there’s any equality as that sibling needs more attention. Parents try but ignoring their other children commonly happens.
Just asking, can't you harvest the bone marrows from the dead baby? Well a fetus wouldn't have a lot of them, but you also don't have to consider leaving enough for the baby to live with.
I’m sorry but I absolutely hate that mother. No offence to the girl with leukaemia but her mother’s actions are detestable even if they were made with her daughters survival in mind. She purposely produced a child for the sake of saving her ill child and when they weren’t a match she moved on and tries to get pregnant again. Even after a miscarriage and then losing her second baby, she sees them as only donors to save her child. She mourns her failure to birth her daughter a cure rather than the death of another child, HER CHILD. She’s so caught up in trying to save her daughter that she isn’t cherishing the life she has with her or her other child.
That mother... omg... shes so annoying. im sorry, but that kid would rather have a mother for 4 years, than be alive for 70 years knowing she killed her mother. :/
Donor baby. While i can see the benefits its still one terrible idea doctors came up with to save a life. Its like this mother doesn't recognize this baby as her child too. This child will be born with the burden of having to save his sibling. Before the baby is old enough to even understand the parents have the authority to take from him. It's not right. What next a kidney? Piece of its lungs? Liver? This donor baby idea should be illegal.
This will sound heartless but I actually think this was the best possible outcome. The other option is just bad on every level. First of the kids would not have a mother, the baby would be (or at least very likely feel like he is) nothing but spare parts for his sister for the rest of their life and the girl would have to live with crushing guilt. Should she feel guilty? No but she already does so imagine how she would feel if her mom died and her sibling existed only for her. That is not fair on any of them. This way the mother lives to take care of her children, the girl gets to live the rest of her life however short feeling a lot less guilty and when she is gone maybe the little brother get to be something else than the forgotten failed saviour sibling.
And you can tell that you are totally right because when she knew the baby did not make it she said to her daughter "I am sorry I failed you". She already did not see this baby as her child but some kind of spare part giver. (I did not watch further so i could be wrong)
even if they managed to save the baby, harvest it, and cure the girl of leukemia, she's gonna be miserable for the rest of her life, knowing that every moment she lives is a moment she practically stole from another human. that she lives at the expense of others. that kind of guilt can be a severe healthrisk by itself.
The baby won't die after donating its bone marrow. No doctor would hurt a healthy child to save their relative. Bone marrow donation involves using syringes to take some of the donor's marrow, it is basically like a more invasive blood donation
Oooooh this is basically My Sister's Keeper where you have a second child solely to be an organ donor to the first. Honestly a mercy the baby didn't survive if that was the life it was destined to have.
In a emergency situation like this I wouldn't be able to comprehend it. Even if someone gave me 1 week to pick to cars I like I would be a nervous wreck
This reminds me of that movie where the mother has a daughter just to save her first born daughter and forces her to give everything the first born needs. Spoilers ahead: The second daughter takes it to the court when her sister says that she's ready to pass but knows that the mother won't allow it.
Omg, when the daughter fainted my heart brokeeeee. But, if i were the dad than I would definitely of brought the kids away because seeing ur mother struggling to breathe in front of your eyes is way too disturbing…
maybe it’s really insensitive of me, but i kinda understand the mother. it’s easier to care about someone that has emotions and personality, someone who you have a deep connection with, rather than someone you never met
I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way! Like pregnant mothers don't really have the bond with thei child physically, it's moreso the child's potential and their idea of what the child's gonna be.. but once that child is grown and you know them and their personality, you know their face and their mannerisms, it's a whole different thing!
Imagine growing up and just being used and was born just to be spared that’s so disgusting she could find another donor the words she said like she has the cure for her daughter
...I have such contempt over the idea of having children for any reason other than to raise a HUMAN being to be a HUMAN being with their own life and choices sooo... I won't even go into depth on my thoughts over this.
All these people who are judging the mother, I pray none of you find themselves in a situation like this. Is easy to judge as an outsider, but once you have been in this situation I think you will think differently.
While it's hard losing a parent as I have lost both mine, mom at age 12 and my father 2 years ago while I was 28. There is no worse pain then a parent having to bury there child. While losing a parent stick with you for your life, when you lose a child, you lose your life aswell. I'm able to accept my losses and move forward, my dad never recovered when my sister passed away. It's a hard situation but that kid last chance at life is gone and the burden of that loss will be unimaginable.

People in this comments section don't seem to like Dr. Manning for some reason. But this episode, she is very kind and caring with the little girl with leukemia.
I cant imagine how it must feel to a kid to know that you were only born to help your sibling live...

The thing that really gets to me about this is that this woman has absolutely no care about the baby she's carrying. She's not concerned for the baby's health and life. It's about her daughter.
She is dehumanizing the third child. She only sees the baby as a container full of organs and not a human being. A human with feelings and emotions and life just like her other two children. Really hard to feel sympathy for her.

I mean you could try another baby again if you can find a surrogate. Many cancer survivors outlive their prognosis. It's not sure death for the kid.
I'm pretty sure they took thise drastic measure due to how the treatment aren't working properly with the daughter. She can't have another pregnancy. Finding and affording a surrogate is unlikely.

Yeah, that mother is completely irrational!!
Why not want to have surgery?? It's very foolish to not even consider surgery!!
Clearly you are not a mother
She was helpless
Do your parents treat you equally to your sister? Is your sister well now? Thank you for educating us on this xx
How do you feel knowing you’re a saviour sibling? Does it affect your view on life?
When you found this out how did it make you feel? Honestly I'm proud of you for being able to talk about something like this!

It seems cruel and unfair to have a designer baby only for spare parts
I think they could have just stored the cord blood. It doesn't have to be used right away.
Yes, cord blood transplants are routinely performed. Most often the cord blood is years old.
Just asking, can't you harvest the bone marrows from the dead baby?
Well a fetus wouldn't have a lot of them, but you also don't have to consider leaving enough for the baby to live with.
According to google you can still harvest from the dead five days after death 😳😳
@@ynamanzano2075 oh god- so this was just- pointless?
I hope you never have to be in a situation, her first born daughter is deadly sick.

I understand the mom, she will literally do anything to save her child’s life.
I literally cried 🥺
This story was heartbreaking and sad
even if they managed to save the baby, harvest it, and cure the girl of leukemia, she's gonna be miserable for the rest of her life, knowing that every moment she lives is a moment she practically stole from another human. that she lives at the expense of others. that kind of guilt can be a severe healthrisk by itself.
they dont harvest all the organs, it is bone marrow donation , the baby will live
The baby won't die after donating its bone marrow. No doctor would hurt a healthy child to save their relative. Bone marrow donation involves using syringes to take some of the donor's marrow, it is basically like a more invasive blood donation

All this because the mom can't admit to herself that her child will die and she can't do anything about it. Instead of letting the girl enjoy her time with her mom, she is constnatly worried about this baby that's supposed to "fix" her family. That woman needs therapy.
