Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo were contemporaries. Complimentary throughout, one great actress praising another. Not a shred of jealously. How refreshing! Joan looks and sounds great in this documentary. I have always loved and admired Joan Crawford. Watching this has reinforced those sentiments.
So noble of an actress - here J. Crawford - to describe a colleague, Miss Garbo with so lovely words. They both belonged in an artistic world where professional rivalries were very common. Here we see J. Crawford as a friend, an impartial critic and a colleague any actress would have been honored to work and share the silver screen with.
Such an honor for Greta Garbo. They both signed to MGM around the same time in 1925. And Joan at one point was as huge in popularity and box office draws as her.
I loved the great chemistry between Garbo & Gilbert in the Silent Movies. It was very unfortunate that Gilbert's voice did not transition well to the "Talkies". Meanwhile Garbo's voice was pure silk. Loved both actors, RIP. Great documentation, well documented and delivered. Best wishes to all out there! Good luck and blessings always with this CVirus! Love, South Jersey, USA ❤❤❤
I am impressed by Crawford's ability as a narrator. She struck the right tone, not one overly dramatic thy would bring attention to Crawford the actor.
"It was remarkably daring in the time to make love horizontally". What a great euphemism! I'll have to remember that one. I wish the print was better, but it's a treat to see (and hear!) Crawford.
What a wonderful documentary about “The Divine Garbo”! I agree with some of the other comments...Joan Crawford looked great and her narration was wonderful!
GRETA GARBO WAS MAGNIFICENT , BUT AM ALWAYS AMAZED HOW MANY VERY FAMOUS PEOPLE ALWAYS SPEAK SO LOVINGLY OF HER - THERE'S MORE TO THIS !? I LOVE THE STARS , I LOVE JOAN CRAWFORD AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN LOVE WITH GRETA GARBO !
Wow! This is my first time seeing this and I'm impressed by Joan's narration. Even though she had year's of alcohol and cigarette abuse, she still had a graceful and soothing tone in her voice. She could have had a career like Robert Osborne. Narrating other actors and films. This is pretty cool, especially since Joan was a big fan of Garbo. Joan has regretted the fact that she didn't have a scene with Garbo in Grand Hotel.
Interesting! Though anyone familiar with Joan's voice will immediately notice that this is running a little fast and her voice is higher pitched than usual. That's because it's a UK television show (shot at 25 frames per second) being converted to North American playback, which runs 30 frames per second.
My late partner, Joe Franklin, legend in his time, made fun of, BECAUSE NOT ONLY WAS HE A LEGEND WHILE HE LIVED, BUT AN ICON WHO LOVED HIS FANS, KIND TO ALL. I LIVED WITH JOE FOR 21 YEARS. DYNAMIC IS A SHALLOW WORD TO DESCRIBE HIM. JOE WOULD LOVE THIS VIDEO OF JOAN CRAWFORD NARRATING Greta Garbo 's documentary here. Thank you. I am Jodi Fritz. I miss Joe..more than ever...Joe said Garbo would watch his shows late at night..would speak of her on HIS MEMORY LANE SHOW, WOR RADIO.
what a priceless find!Weird how even if this was made so early on ,Garbo still very much alive ,they still got most of the things about her right!Unlike the dozens of so called well researched docus and bios that followed ,sensationalist in manner ,some downright classist ,with people who knew her only a little taking liberties and pulling psychological assessments out of their asses
Ironically, Garbo, Crawford & Loy all retired to NYC, latter were friends but Crawford became recluse, Garbo spotting famous pastime while Loy worked right to the end.
At 47:36 when she turns the champagne glass to drink from where he put his lips is hilarious bc she's spoofing on a serious moment in the movie "Flesh and the Devil" with John Gilbert.
Wow.. What a narration from a true diva herself. And using such metaphors in comparison like Svengali. Yes, Greta was lager than life like Joan herself.
Joan said Stiller wasn't interested in women, lol , we know what that means today, but isnt it interesting, how few watching this documentary when it was made would have deducted that?
Garbo was indeed an enigma. A sublime actress who could not "act." Her delivery was always the same, from GRAND HOTEL to TWO-FACED WOMAN. Her silent movies were mesmerizing. Then, with the advent of sound, her lack of technique became quite obvious. Ideally she should have been dubbed by a well-trained actress. Certainly it would have been quite sufficient for us to admire her lovely, myriad facial expressions. In Italy Garbo was dubbed by the wonderful Tina Lattanzi with superb results. As for Crawford, she did a good job narrating this documentary.
If Joan Crawford narrates your life, you are larger than life itself.
Her speaking voice is magic.
I can't think of anyone else but Crawford to do this documentary of Garbo
Her voice and her love for Garbo is perfect
Joan Crawford was a complete professional in whatever she did.
Oh Joan Crawford’s voice. Like honey and chocolate being warmed and made molten together... Joan Crawford - perfect.
Quite a good documentary. Joan Crawford is perfect in her role as narrator because she understands and is sympathetic with her subject.
Joan Crawford did a great job and looked beautiful!
Joan. That stunning voice and her regal air. Simply breathtaking.
The Old film stars are the best ♥️
Garbo was TREMENDOUS! God, how I LOVE her!

Joan Crawford did a fantastic job on this. Her narration was beautifully done and it probably helped that she had such a great subject to talk about.
Such an honor for Greta Garbo. They both signed to MGM around the same time in 1925. And Joan at one point was as huge in popularity and box office draws as her.

❤❤❤
Garbo is the most beautiful actress of all time. More beautiful than all the actresses today by far.
I am impressed by Crawford's ability as a narrator. She struck the right tone, not
one overly dramatic thy would bring attention to Crawford the actor.

Miss Crawford was a huge fan of Garbo's.
I love this channel!! Thank you for all these amazing uploads!
Garbo was gorgeous!
Garbo was the greatest star of her Era.
How many people can say that they narrated their crush's documentary? ? (While being a star in their own right?) Go Joanie!
Joan was the best of the best - beauty talent great voice
I wish I had Joan's voice, and smile.
I love Crawfords class! I love both these women!
That “penetrate her mystery” line is a) intense and b) very close to Joans heart, I’m sure
Excellent performance by the great Joan Crawford! Garbo is Garbo - luminous!
Cheers to both iconic ladies - too and we don’t have ladies like this anymore!
The Great Garbo. Wonderful. Thank You.
Legend on Legend! Wow!
What a wonderful documentary about “The Divine Garbo”! I agree with some of the other comments...Joan Crawford looked great and her narration was wonderful!
One icon talking about another.
Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo❤️❤️
Incredible beauty. To this day.
Excellent documentary, especially for the period in which it was made.
Mrs. Crawford was very beautiful 😇

Garbo is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Cannot be duplicated.

That's because it's a UK television show (shot at 25 frames per second) being converted to North American playback, which runs 30 frames per second.
Greta Garbo's expression and intensity could draw anyone in.. its like a svengali effect. She was the greatest.
The magnificent Joan ✔️
Greta Garbo was the only actress who was loved and not envied by her contemporaries
"it was daring at the time to make love in a film... horizontally." priceless!
Joan is so generous and professional here.
Her feeling towards Bette Davis, another story.
Joan seemed to have genuine deep feelings about Garbo.
Dora Glasberg Crawford said positive things about Davis. Crawford had class. Davis, not so much.
Enjoying this very much 💕
Love you Joan
Still pretty, Joan Crawford
Thank you this is truly soooo interesting! Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford, two of the most charismatic actresses who ever graced the films.....🎉
Thanks for posting!
Love both of them ... 💝🔱
Joan is gorgeous here
Woooow! Greta Garbo♥️♥️♥️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

In my view, Crawford was the true "it" girl of Hollywood's golden era.
Joan Crawford and most all of the other Hollywood "Greats" all admired Greta Garbo.
What did Garbo think about this documentary?
MUY BUENO !!
Ironically, Garbo, Crawford & Loy all retired to NYC, latter were friends but Crawford became recluse, Garbo spotting famous pastime while Loy worked right to the end.
Joan delivers this narration in a very natural way. I can't see her reading an auto-cue (was she or did she memorise it?)
At 47:36 when she turns the champagne glass to drink from where he put his lips is hilarious bc she's spoofing on a serious moment in the movie "Flesh and the Devil" with John Gilbert.
“Women did not interest him sexually...” I’m surprised they allowed her to say that outright on television (?) in the 60s.
There were still moments of honesty. Apparently.
Wow.. What a narration from a true diva herself. And using such metaphors in comparison like Svengali. Yes, Greta was lager than life like Joan herself.
Crawford actually quite petite.
16:00 i loveee
Her voice is so much higher here. I wonder if she used to deepen her voice for the movies.
Joan said Stiller wasn't interested in women, lol , we know what that means today, but isnt it interesting, how few watching this documentary when it was made would have deducted that?
❤❤❤❤❤
Was this filmed in Black and white?

Alas, Garbo never made a color film.
I find Crawford prettier than Garbo.
Were they friends at all?
