Moth’s Mummy no, that’s completely true...if you knew anything about narcissism or cluster b personality disorders, you’d know narcs don’t have empathy and can’t love. It stems from abuse/neglect early in childhood.
Here is one definition: Narcissistic personality disorder - one of several types of personality disorders - is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others.
That scene with the wire hangers was such an eye opener. My mom would fly into rages just like this. It makes me turn to ice inside just watching this scene. I believe Christina one hundred percent.

She came in 2nd for the NY Film Critics award for Best Actress and Pauline Kael, film critic for the New Yorker, gave her a rare rave review, calling hers a “ ferocious performance.
In Christina's "Mommie Dearest" she wrote of an incident whereby she ALLEGES Joan Crawford strangled her after she returned home from boarding school for summer vacation in June 1953. When Christina wrote of this allegation, she stated Joan had "a look in her eyes that will never be erased from my memory." After this ALLEGED altercation, Christina was sent immediately back to boarding school. Christina published "Mommie Dearest" in October 1978. Nearly simultaneously to her writing this FRAUDULENT memoir, Christina was court ordered to be questioned in an UNDER-OATH deposition by Joan Crawford's estate in February 1978. During her UNDER-OATH, court-ordered deposition, Christina is specifically questioned about this incident, to which she responded: "I don't know what you are referring to," and continues to evade the questions regarding this incident. In addition to Christina's complete, on the record, CONTRIDICTION of this event, the EYE-WITNESS to this event came forward in 1981 to confirm Christina LIED in her book. That EYE-WITNESS is Billie Greene, She was Joan's assistant at the time. Greene stated in her unpublished interview: "I believe I'm quoted as saying 'Stop, you'll kill her."...I can tell you that I've never seen any discipline towards Christina or the other children that I would call out of control. There was not brutality that night." (Greene's full interview is in-depth and REVEALING) **CREDIT to CHRISTINACRAWFORDLIED facebook.**
@@Garsons-oq4lh I knew this couldn't be true, I read the same exact proofs. Some assume that Christina wasn't payed by her mother when she left like Joan Crawford had done for her other two children, however she payed for her institution for university if I'm not mistaken. I believe Christina Crawford wrote all this about her late mother Joan Crawford because she hated the way she was during the feud of Betti Davis and her...that is when she became desperate for the stage and fame. I believe Betti Davis' daughter had similar ideas for the neglect she was given. When things don't add up in a story, they don't add up for a reason.
Mommy dearest was what Joan had them call her. Jackie Cooper, a child actor at the time had his mother on set with him. He called his mother Mother Dearest out of love and admiration. A few years later when Joan adopted Christina, this is what she made them call her. She wanted what Jackie Coopers mother had. But she didnt know how to be a mother.
Ok. I’m so frustrated by people who assume that children adopted by rich famous people are generally better off. As if it’s better to be adopted by the rich than it is to be adopted by the mentally stable. As if there would never be an opportunity for that child to be adopted by people more emotionally stable. As if money heals all wounds. Well, if that’s so, I got got a paper cut at work yesterday, lend me a $20 so I can heal properly.
emayaych Are you sure people think that? This story has been around for a very long time and changed people’s perceptions quite a bit.. it’s pretty obvious that being rich doesn’t equal kind...
My birth mother had mental illness and abused her first two children. Then went on and had two more. Watching this movie and hearing some of these lines that my mother said and did to us brought flash backs. She was a child abuser. Someone asked me if I ever told my father? I said no. They asked me why, and said I didn't know it was wrong, i thought it was me. Today she would have been jailed. Prayers to all of you who suffered by the hands of such 🙏🙏🙏🕊
I hear ya. My mother is still a bully and a horrible person at 92. She would probably beat on those around her if she could get away with it. Her own sisters can’t stand her. God bless anyone subjected to such a merciless mother.
OMG...! Someone else who endured this same thing, sans the fortune and fame! When the novel "Mommie Dearest" came out, as an avid and voracious reader since the age of 6, I bought a copy as a teenager, and I was reading it one day when my very own mommie dearest came home from work, and SHE WENT OFF!! What really struck me was the fact that I read other novels in front of her, like Valley of the Dolls; no reaction. I read racy Sidney Sheldon novels; no response....ditto for Vincent Bugliosi's Helter Skelter, and again, no reaction from her. Until she saw me reading THIS ONE; I suppose it just hit a little too close to home for her. I remember reading SO MANY parts of that novel, incidents that were nearly identical to things that my own mother had done to ME and my older half-brother, and I almost came up out of my chair, reeling in this.... fascinated horror, because YES! I could, unfortunately, relate to this same scenario, this same dynamic, the same horrific verbal, emotional, and physical ABUSE! My dad was no help, so it did no good to say anything to him, either; not that he didn't know about the things she said and did to us, HE DID, but....he had his own issues, and he lived in fear of that evil bitch until the day he died, being the mousy, weak, ineffective father that he was. I went no contact 18 years ago, and I never looked back, I've never had even one regret about that decision. I believe you, and I understand. I was in therapy for years over the things I had to endure; I wanted to send her all of the bills, but....my insurance covered all of it, so I never did, but I should have anyway, and returned the money to my insurer. No one else will ever be able to believe or understand something like this when they never lived it.
She had some type of mental illness, my mom suffered from something similar. She could be so angry out of nowhere for no reason that life from young was constantly dodging mine fields. Got hit with hangers, wooden spoons, but her favorite was the pitta she made-12 belts attached to one handle. Sad what drives people. Is it mental illness, a hard life? I don’t know. My mom constantly took her frustration out on me. Never hit my own kids-can’t imagine hurting them. So don’t think because a parent is screwed up the kids will be too.
Stacy Steele my mum would get angry out of nowhere. She’d even start crying out of no where but she never once hit me. EVER. We were in Africa btw where all kinds of abuse are welcomed but she never was mean to me
Kelsey Haight: It's hard to believe that those monster eyebrows were ever fashionable, huh? Joan had very thin contoured eyebrows in her early pics, but they got thicker each year, eventually settling into the fat caterpillars. They look downright comical to me. She was known for her eyebrows & her mouth/lips. Her thick lips were actually an accident. When Joan was young (22-23 yrs old), she had 4 molar teeth removed on each side of her mouth in order to create distinctive cheekbones (a trick she had heard that Marlene Dietrich had done). Her mouth quickly became infected & very swollen... Her mouth was infected for quite a while before the infection was healed. But when her mouth returned to normal, her top lip remained swollen permanently. She used make-up to create a larger bottom lip in order to balance out her mouth area. Joan had recurring dental problems for the remainder of her life due to her early choice of removing molars (receding gums, painful infections, disintegrating jawbones). (BTW, no PROOF has ever been found stating that Marlene Dietrich ever had teeth removed to create that contoured cheekbone look, but that was the Hollywood rumor at the time.)
Christina Crawford claims in "Mommie Dearest" that she was strangled by Joan Crawford in the summer of 1953. Here is how she describes this incident in her book: "The choking pain of her fingers around my throat met the thudding ache of the blow to the back of my head. She banged my head on the floor, tightening her grip around my throat....I gasped for air and felt myself sinking into unconsciousness as I tried desperately to fight back....If something or someone didn’t help me very soon I was going to die. I tried with the last bit of my strength to struggle free of those choking fingers and managed to wedge one of my knees between her body and mine and push upward on her ribs with my hands which loosened her grip slightly. It at least allowed a trickle of air down my throat and kept me from losing consciousness." -This type of physical attack would, no doubt, leave bruises to the neck and throat. However, according to Christina, she had no bruises to the neck or throat, and the bruises she claims to have received to the face were greatly diminished within "a few days." This is what Christina Crawford said regarding her "injuries" after this alleged strangulation: "I had one black eye and a cut on my upper lip that was swollen and covered with dried blood. My whole face was sort of puffy and I had a perfect handprint bruised across one cheek....A few days later I was on my way back to the Chadwick’s house...I still had vestiges of the black eye but the rest of my face had returned pretty much to normal." -This claim is medically impossible. Brusies to the face take at least a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks to fade. Perhaps this was a quick rationale by Christina in her book to account for no one seeing these "injuries" after she returned to Chadwicks. By 1988. Christina Crawford claimed in her book "Survivor" that the stroke she suffered in late 1981 was the result of this "strangulation." Christina claimed the strangulation caused an embolism (a blood clot) that blocked the flow of blood to her brain, and this embolism had lied dormant for over 28 years (1953 - 1981) without causing issue before it dislodged and flowed to her brain. This claim, in and of itself, is medically improbably, if not impossible. However, the impossibility is further enhanced when considering that Christina did not even have bruising to her throat from this alleged strangulation. In "Survivor" Christina writes: "In the hospital the doctors questioned me as thoroughly as they could about possible causes of my stroke. They were interested in what might have been a source of original damage to the left carotid artery in my neck since I had no history of high blood pressure or high cholesterol. They asked me about a car accident or a neck injury. I had experienced none. The only incident I could think of was a violent argument my mother and I had when I was thirteen years old. She had been drinking at the time and flew into a rage. I recalled this incident in the book Mommie Dearest, not knowing at the time I wrote about it that I would later have a stroke" This outrageous allegation is further debunked by a 1978 sworn deposition, whereby Christina DENIES knowledge of this incident. Along with a 1980 interview with the secretary (Billie Greene) who was an eye witness the evening Christina claimed this strangulation took place. Greene refuted the claim that Joan strangled or choked Christina. Billie Greene -Former secretary to Joan Crawford-unpublished interview 1980 “I believe I am quoted [in Christina’s book regarding the LIE that is the strangling incident] to have said something like, “Stop, you’ll kill her.” There was a point where they were having an argument. What precipitated it was possibly one of many misunderstandings. Or where Christina had lied to Joan, and the hostility was getting greater. Joan came towards her and gave her a good swat, and hit her towards the neck area. I remember at one point taking Joan’s arm when it was in midair and saying, “I want you to stop. You’re going to hurt her.” This was not for Christina’s sake. This was for Joan’s sake. No one wants to see anyone out of control. I can tell you that I’d never seen any discipline towards Christina or towards the other children that I would call out of control. There was not brutality that night. Possibly there was rage. I can’t conceive of the distortion, unless Christina had a deep-seated plan, a vendetta that was present even when she was 14. Christina lied often for absolutely no reason. [The book] was a pack of lies that made your hair stand on end. I have utter contempt for Christina." **ChristinaCrawfordLied**
She may have sold her soul to be a famous movie star she was definitely corrupt I don't care how abused you are as the child you get no pleasure from hurting others unless you love Darkness more than light
Becoming a narcissist was her adaptation to her dysfunctional upbringing as a survival method. I'm not condoning her behavior. The opposite would be a codependent. They are completely opposites of one another and neither one of them is healthy.
The Logic of Christina Crawford Believers: I believe Christina Crawford! I was abused as a child, and despite that abuse occurring in a totally 'different' household, by totally 'different' people and in a totally 'different' decade, my story PROVES Joan Crawford abused her children! Joan Crawford's other children(Cathy and Cindy)'s stories DO NOT count! It doesn't matter that they were raised by the 'same' mother, in the 'same' household, and during the 'same' era! I know the truth because I was abused. **Credit to ChristinaCrawfordLied**
@@Garsons-oq4lh Here's the thing about that. Christina wasn't alone in claiming the abuse was real. Aside from Christopher siding with her in admiting to the abuse, but some people who worked for Joan as well as some of her Hollywood peers and neighbors claimed later on they knew something was going on at the Crawford home. Granted Christina's writing the book after Joan death is sus, but there have been as many people who came forward in support of her as there were who dismissed her claims. Course this was Hollywood during the days of the Studio System. They would literally cover up murders, hit and runs, and rapes to protect their stars. So if Joan really did abuse her kids, it would have been covered up.
June Allyson wrote in her autobiography what she witnessed at the Crawford home between Joan and Christina and it corroborated Christina's story. I believe June Allyson. She had absolutely nothing to gain by lying.

@ thanks to Christina's spitefulness, always having to have the last word, propaganda etc. She was 4 or 5 years older and it was easy for her to take him under her wing and teach him all the other-brainwashing. WheneverJoan was trying to correct Christina, Christina with spit out the words sarcastically and defiantly "yes Mommy dearest!!!😜😠😜😠😈👿🔥 The child from hell?!! How would you deal with a smirking child who must always have the last word?😯😮🤔
She always claimed that the kids didn't love her. She said it was as if they couldn't stand the sound of her voice. Maybe she imagined it. But she could sense it I guess.
Too bad DCFS didn't discover Joanne and had her prosecuted!!!!! Too bad sime cop didn't give her the combination of the George Floyd and Rodney King treatment combined!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@albertcarello5489 There wasn't a DCFS at the time...kids had to fend for themselves until child protective agencies came in to being during the next decade.
I completely believe Christina. It all makes sense about the reason why she adopted those kids. It's completely a stunt so she can get more attention and fame. It's really so sad to do all that to an innocent child.
Most people adopt because they want what they want. Adoption should be about giving a loving home to a child who has none. I would have preferred to have been aborted. I can accept I am a survivor, at the moment. All of my problems aren't due to being adopted but it sure as hell contributed and formed me into the person I am!!! If the little girl who threw me away didn't want me I wish she would have had enough money for an abortion......I never would have known the difference. I will use my experiences to be there for other people who have none because I still have no family!
Awww T. J. That breaks my heart to hear. You seem like a person God wanted here... He's got a purpose for you....there are a lot of people looking for a family...i pray you all find each other. ❤
T.J. Bless you for finding a way to use your bad experiences to put some good out in the world. My biological parents kept me, but due to their abuse and neglect, and a sibling I haven't spoken to in about 20 yrs., I spend a lot of days feeling like I have no family. I'm always reminded of what author Dr. Wayne Dyer used to say about family - that friends are God's way of apologizing for family. I'm sure a lot of people feel that way. Thank god there are ways we can create our own loving families.
I don't believe Christina and I will tell you why. Christina wasn't Joan's first adopted child. The first child was a boy that she named Christopher. Shortly after that adoption, the birth parents wanted the baby back and winning a court case against Joan. Joan was extremely heart broken. She later adopted Christina, then later Joan adopted a boy and was also named Christopher. Her reasoning for naming the boy Christopher, was because she truly and still loved her first adopted child.. Joan had fears after adopting both Christina and Christopher (second boy) that the same thing would happen where the birth parents would take them away. So to believe Joan only adopted for publicity, I don't buy. She later adopted twins. Christina wasn't an angel. Joan may have disciplined her children that is not acceptable by today's standards, but it was acceptable back then. In fact, it was acceptable before Joan adopted children to the 1980s. Christina was a spoiled brat and felt entitlement. Joan provided for her children a great deal. She sent them to truly good schools (which were mostly boarding schools), fine clothing, fine eating, etc.. And just to add, celebrities commonly sent their kids to boarding schools, because as stated, they were truly good schools. Hilton sisters, Kardashian kids, and the likes all went to boarding schools, as well. Christopher was also not an angel either. When he didn't get his way, he would run away from home and committing crimes along the way. Christina wrote the scathing book to spite Joan for being left out of Joan's will. Christina needed money. She did go into acting for a while, but people that she worked with found her to possess a Diva personality. She would demand the biggest dressing rooms, for instance. She also pulled the "I am Joan Crawford's daughter" card when she didn't get her wishes. She was so difficult to work with that no one would hire her as an actor. Christina's first husband also claimed that Christina was demanding and vindictive. And I know some celebrities have claimed to have witnessed Joan abusing her children, but no one seems to ask them why they didn't say anything to the authorities. Because they never did anything when they felt the children were being overly disciplined, has me convinced those celebrities, like Christina, they had an ax to grin with Joan. Joan's secretary for nearly 50 years named Betty Barker stated that Joan was strict with her children, but they were never abused to the extent of which both book and movie depicted Joan as being. Hollywood news story writer Liz Smith stated in one of her articles "I was inclined to believe Joan was misguided in her attempts to 'mold' her children-and was vain and self-absorbed like most great stars-but the stories of beatings and near-madness were over the top.". Christina did mocked the so-called abuse on a show in the 80s. She made fun of the so-called wire hanger alleged incident, which I found very troubling. If one suffers from any form of extreme abuse, one does NOT feel the desire to mock it. Simply for the fact it was a dramatic event and should never be made fun of. The point of my winded reply, is hopefully encourage you to do more research and not rely solely on Christina's book. When I first saw the movie back when it came out, I bought the book and read it. I truly believed at the time Christina was telling the truth. I later decided to research Christina Crawford and Christopher Crawford. It was then when I started to see a more clearer picture of who Christina is. This is why I'll never believe Christina. Remember, she only decided to write the scathing book AFTER Joan had passed and Christina finding out her and Christopher were left out of the will. The twins were in the will, but not Christina and Christopher. I will add that both Christina and Christopher contested the will and won in court and was awarded money from Joan's estate. Another sign of entitlement by those two. Another sign of going against Joan's wishes. Christina and Christopher are not the innocent victims of extreme child abuse and Joan was not the monster they both made her out to be.
It's time for EVERYONE to stop glossing over the fact that Christopher may have been sold or stolen. We need to find out where he came from. People NEED to be held accountable.
Christopher was actually born in Oklahoma as Christina later learned. I believe he was bought through a broker. Not Georgia Tann. The twin sisters were bought from Georgia Tann's Tennesee Childrens Home. Christopher passed away in September 2006. He lived a very private life.
I relate in many ways because my mother treated me the same way. Took all her frustrations and anger on me ever since I could remember. So sad how ppl have kids, adopt or any other way and treat them like garbage and damage them for life, mentally.
I feel sorry for the whole family she obviously wasn't loved as a child she cared more about the beautiful dresses than the beautiful spirits of the children she paid to raise!!!
Christina seems very credible. I read the book and I have the movie. I believe her. Joan reminds me very much of my mom. It's just sad all the way around. I believe that Joan was extremely narcissistic.
There’s a whole lot of people who claim they witnessed this and did nothing… Her close friend even admits that she abused her children and is smiling while talking about it and didn’t claim to even attempt to do anything about it. Really sad and honestly just as bad as abusing children.
@Christine Mills Christina had every right to be afraid of her. Joan had a lot of connections, it wouldn't be hard to ruin Christina's life with them. Or it could simply be she was terrified, which is viable. It may not make sense, but when you gi through the things she did, you are so afraid to do or say anything. My abuser was behind bars and I was still terrified. Years of abuse causes extreme paranoia that I truly hope you never have to understand.
Those who call out Christina a liar over the alleged abuse need their heads examined. An old friend of mine suffered similar emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her (slightly overweight) narcissistic mother who envied her own daughter's model-perfect looks and body. Regularly shaming my friend, calling her horrible things that I became witness far too often, like attacking and blaming my friend for any stupid thing, and 'chasing around' etc. Thankfully my friend's dad figured out what was going on and switched shifts so that he was HOME after 330pm, and the abuse stopped. But I will NEVER forget what I witnessed. Joan being a celebrity and alcoholic NEVER excused her terrible behavior. Far as looks, Joan was attractive, but no "beauty" compared to her rivals Davis, Harlow, and Francis. Such truth eats away at a screen diva, and got the worst of her.

The video is definitely wrong about her career declining after 'Mildred Pierce' (1945), for which she won an Oscar. She was very successful and popular again well into the early and mid 1950's. She re-invented herself and made a huge comeback with Mildred Pierce. Her movies were huge hits like 'Humoresque' and 'Possessed' which raked in millions for her. She outlasted most of the big stars from the 1930's who were never heard from again.
Poor Christina Crawford it's amazing what a good person she came out to be I can tell from her talk shows and what she went through because she had a life of Hell growing up with her mother Joan Crawford and she raised kids herself and was a good mother and a good person Christina was nothing like her mother it's a miracle she came out to be a great person like she is
If by good person you mean someone who has more holes in her story than a Swiss cheese factory... Her alleged sob story as a meal ticket because she has no talent and nothing else to offer at all. She's not an abuse victim. She's just a professional victim. So long as there's a check involved.
Christina's accusations are as ludicrous as pigs flying sure there are multiple people who corroborate her statements but there are just as much people who don't not to mention she finished the book just after her mother's death is very suspicious if you ask me and on top of that her mother refused to give a part of her will because of the book serves as a nice plausible motive if you ask me Christina has no evidence outside of a book and a questionable documentary to prove her outrageous accusations. Christina is about as believable as Amber Heard's testimony against Johnny Depp. I'd give her accusations a 7/10 a plausible accusation but one so full of holes even an archaeologist can't dig it all up and find anything accurate so until more evidence comes to light Christina can't be possibly believed Joan is innocent till proven guilty and I stand by that fact about justice and I will fight till the end to keep that fact in short I have very high doubts on Christina's accusations against her mother sorry for the long comment.

Christina Crawford claims in "Mommie Dearest" that she was strangled by Joan Crawford in the summer of 1953. Personally, I think the only real reason they "don't make them like that anymore" is simply due to the demise- for better and worse- of Hollywood's old Studio system, which demanded the creation of "Stars" and guaranteed actors under studio contract a set number of movies before contract's expiration.
Considering the absolutely appalling childhood Jan Crawford endured, from an abusive mother to losing her virginity at 11 with her step-father, is it REALLY that hard to believe she was abusive to her first two adopted children?
Samantha Divis no it isn't because during this time. Joan's career was kind of getting lost so she had her moments and that was it but other than that I truly believe that she did love her children
Samantha Divis it’s actually not very hard to believe most people Who are abusers were abused in their childhood it’s a cycle repeats The very sad part is that there were paparazzi , Reporters and people who worked for her was. Have come out and said yeah I saw her abusing her kids and drinking all the time. did nothing to help Those two kids and Joan Crawford. Which was very common for the time
Joan Crawford had difficulty adopting via normal routes because she was considered an unacceptable parental candidate and was rejected. She had to find more unconventional ways to adopt where adoption laws were more lax. Or as Christina said, she didn't adopt children, she bought them. Christina also says they could never find any adoption papers for her brother.
Having a poor childhood doesn’t excuse her behaviour towards those two poor children! My childhood was difficult at times (psychological abuse), yet my children will NEVER experience hurt and upset like I did!
Her performance was SPOT-ON! It scared me! The depiction of her OCD when washing her face, the wire hangers, and the comet was telling! The “adoption” was nothing more than a black market baby ring. There’s a movie with Mare Winningham that talks about the woman who would take people’s babies and sell them. That was where Joans kids came from.
The 'Twins', not Christina. She was Georgia Tann. Mary Tyler Moore portrayed her in a movie. She was some piece of work, that Georgia. www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1131282/The-Hollywood-Baby-Snatcher-The-sinister-story-woman-stole-children-sold-stars.html

I keep seeing comment saying that her two Step kids never experienced the abuse Christina and Christopher had...and I'm sure they didnt..becuz they had some one looking out for them, thier biological mother..Christina and Christopher had no one looking out for them..they were easy pray for a mentally ill person.
Shannon Marie Good point, Shannon. Joan could, and did, abuse the oldest two without any repercussions. How sad for them, and for all abused children, whether natural or adopted. When my kids were younger I kept a sharp eye out for any neighbourhood kids that looked dirty and hungry, and reported my concerns more than once to the local DFAC, Department of Children and Families. I fed many kids over the years and always welcomed my kids friends inside if it was cold and miserable outside.
Also, by the time Joan adopted the last two children, she was more mature and a bit less selfish, so their experience with her was different. That is why they deny that she was abusive.
Shannon Marie.....you are so right, also in those days there was little to no help for foster, adopted,, kids and kids whom were wards of the state......also I do believe the articles I've read about Joan Crawford making a pass at Betty Davis....from all stand points Crawford was "By-sexyal she and Marilyn Monroe was involved in a couple of sexual escapades.
Shannon Marie yup! Plus the younger two are 8 years younger!!! And she was married again when the younger twins 👯 were being raised and he was apparently a nice guy who was nice to the little girls so she was nicer to them too lol
Alot of them are. Mostly in the workplace it seems. Then, there's family, neighbors, they're all over the place. It's an epidemic and men are not immune.
A lot of PEOPLE are. Don't go centering it around women only as if they are the only one abusive, because men has literally 0 morals to say anything. Idiot,
I noticed looking up Joan's bio. Her birth year wasn't listed. How vain. I saw they believed she was 69 at her death, that out it at 1908. I'm glad you mentioned her birth year.
@amandaculler5444 also Joan Crawford did not die of cancer she committed suicide by swallowing a bunch of prescription pills. In 1977 she died broke she only had about $500,000 in her bank account. Her estate was worth millions the problem was she didn't know how to handled her money. she gave her money away to charities.
People have so much sympathy for Christina Crawford, but none for Joan who was sexually abused as a child, whose father left her and whose mother didn't want her. I'm not condoning the alleged child abuse, but no one is born evil. Joan Crawford had an appalling childhood and she simply didn't know how to love.
Child abuse is not really about the child or the child's behavior; rather, it's about the abuser's negative feelings towards themselves or the people who mistreated them (most often a parent). Children are easy targets because they can't fight back.
My mother was like that. Fits of rage out of nowhere. So random. Zero to 100 in an instant. Sometimes you wouldnt even know what set her off. And when she is in that zone Lord the terror. Like a wild animal. Merciless to bitter out cries. Cruel at times. I just never understood that anger. But as i got older i realised she had a deeper pain inside than that she inflicted on us. She needed healing. The best thing i ever learnt is that parents are human too. We expect them to be perfect but we receive them as flawed as everyone else. Acceptance of the revelation that at that time she did the best she could. The best she KNEW HOW. Being a parent doesnt change that.
Same. My mum was an alcoholic and she would suddenly shout at the television actors. I switched it off. Big mistake. I forgive her everything because she was very unhappy and never loved my dad.
I love Joan Crawford, a great actress, loved her fans, and was always grateful to them, Joan always looked elegant, but I don't think she would have been an easy mother to have, but you know on screen she was pure magic!!!!! 🐩🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
She adopted Christina from a place in TN. I wonder if it was Georgia Tann, the Tennessee Children's home. I saw that Christina was the only kid she actually adopted. She bought the others from Georgia Tann who stole up to 5000 kids.
When Bette Davis was nominated for best actress for Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, Joan Crawford contacted the other nominees and offered to accept the award for them if they won. Anne Bancroft wound up winning and when Joan Crawford went up to the podium to accept the award Bette Davis was beyond furious
And Joan is supposed to have prevented Bette from winning is that it? There is no proof Joan had anything to do with Bette not winning and noone (except a delusional Bette and at the expense of Bancroft) has come foward to proclaim so.

During her UNDER-OATH, court-ordered deposition, Christina is specifically questioned about this incident, to which she responded:
"I don't know what you are referring to," and continues to evade the questions regarding this incident.
In addition to Christina's complete, on the record, CONTRIDICTION of this event, the EYE-WITNESS to this event came forward in 1981 to confirm Christina LIED in her book.
That EYE-WITNESS is Billie Greene, She was Joan's assistant at the time.
Greene stated in her unpublished interview:
"I believe I'm quoted as saying 'Stop, you'll kill her."...I can tell you that I've never seen any discipline towards Christina or the other children that I would call out of control. There was not brutality that night."

Maybe the eyebrows hid face lift scars

Joan Crawford was lucky to be in a time that mostly Hollywood managed to hide their stars problems.
Christina Crawford claims in "Mommie Dearest" that she was strangled by Joan Crawford in the summer of 1953.
Here is how she describes this incident in her book:
"The choking pain of her fingers around my throat met the thudding ache of the blow to the back of my head. It at least allowed a trickle of air down my throat and kept me from losing consciousness."
-This type of physical attack would, no doubt, leave bruises to the neck and throat. However, according to Christina, she had no bruises to the neck or throat, and the bruises she claims to have received to the face were greatly diminished within "a few days."
This is what Christina Crawford said regarding her "injuries" after this alleged strangulation:
"I had one black eye and a cut on my upper lip that was swollen and covered with dried blood. My whole face was sort of puffy and I had a perfect handprint bruised across one cheek....A few days later I was on my way back to the Chadwick’s house...I still had vestiges of the black eye but the rest of my face had returned pretty much to normal."
-This claim is medically impossible.
In "Survivor" Christina writes:
"In the hospital the doctors questioned me as thoroughly as they could about possible causes of my stroke. I recalled this incident in the book Mommie Dearest, not knowing at the time I wrote about it that I would later have a stroke"
This outrageous allegation is further debunked by a 1978 sworn deposition, whereby Christina DENIES knowledge of this incident. Along with a 1980 interview with the secretary (Billie Greene) who was an eye witness the evening Christina claimed this strangulation took place. Greene refuted the claim that Joan strangled or choked Christina.
Billie Greene -Former secretary to Joan Crawford-unpublished interview 1980
“I believe I am quoted [in Christina’s book regarding the LIE that is the strangling incident] to have said something like, “Stop, you’ll kill her.” There was a point where they were having an argument.
So...that...all the celebrities adopting children such as Angelina Jolly & more...
Back when E! was watchable!!!
Yes, I liked the biographies of the stars.
I still watch Joan Crawford. I’ve been watching her since I was very young with my mother. I love her extraordinary talent.
E is classless now. I used to watch that channel often when the content was informative and entertaining.
It's time for EVERYONE to stop glossing over the fact that Christopher may have been sold or stolen. We need to find out where he came from. People NEED to be held accountable.
Does Christopher want you in his business? How arrogant of you to think you know what's best for him.
@@deaconsmom2000 Christopher died in 2006.
He knew. He was in the army
@Max! Max! 😳😂🤣🤣🤣
I believe Christina. Joan definitely has that crazy narcissistic vibe about her. It's sad she couldn't get help.

No, she COULD get help. She just didn't want it, it seems.
Amazing how the word "narcissist" isn't heard in this documentary.

What I appreciate is that Christina’s expose comes from a kind, compassionate place
When you see Joan interviews, especially the later colour ones, she has less warmth behind her eyes than a dead mackerel on ice at Zabars.
LOL right?
Just like my mother. The scowl is frightening. The coldness is terrifying.
I wish this series would come back. I haven’t watched this channel since in years.
There’s a whole lot of people who claim they witnessed this and did nothing…
Her close friend even admits that she abused her children and is smiling while talking about it and didn’t claim to even attempt to do anything about it. Really sad and honestly just as bad as abusing children.
Christina was her mother's scapegoat. I know how that feels
Unfortunately so do I.
Same.
@Christine Mills Fear of her mothers wrath. Think about it!!!!!!!!
@Christine Mills So easy to say anything when you are not the one being abused by your parents.
That chick lied. All kinds of people that were around never saw this. They said she was a spoiled brat
@@erickanew I hate that you'd say that. Why would she lie on her own mother? Joan was manipulative and a famous Hollywood star. Of course these people said she didn't. You can still admire a movie star and admit their wrongdoing.
@@miwfreak4312 a lot of people said she lied. She did it to make money and was upset with her mother because she didn't leave her anything. She wasn't even around her mother most of her childhood because she was in boarding school. She's awful for lying like that
@@erickanew if you weren't there you don't actually know I think that Joan Crawford was great from what I know of her but I don't know her private life. I just saw if you watched this you did to another person who said that she saw some abuse

They have no way to defend themselves
The video is definitely wrong about her career declining after 'Mildred Pierce' (1945), for which she won an Oscar. She was very successful and popular again well into the early and mid 1950's. She re-invented herself and made a huge comeback with Mildred Pierce. Her movies were huge hits like 'Humoresque' and 'Possessed' which raked in millions for her. She outlasted most of the big stars from the 1930's who were never heard from again.
Thanks for correcting this!
Of course you did because she slept with everybody in Hollywood
Poor Christina Crawford it's amazing what a good person she came out to be I can tell from her talk shows and what she went through because she had a life of Hell growing up with her mother Joan Crawford and she raised kids herself and was a good mother and a good person Christina was nothing like her mother it's a miracle she came out to be a great person like she is
If by good person you mean someone who has more holes in her story than a Swiss cheese factory... Her alleged sob story as a meal ticket because she has no talent and nothing else to offer at all. She's not an abuse victim. She's just a professional victim. So long as there's a check involved.
@@cafeAmericano A professional whiner here. A talentless youtube commenter, the usual thinking they're better.

The story of "Mommie Dearest" is my late father. Years later I learned that my Mom did not love him but was pressured to marry. We paid for it through PHYSICAL ABUSE

Joan Crawford is the best thing that happened to Christina Crawford.. she spent her life tearing down Joan’s legacy…
Ryan Seacrest killed E!
Yep!!
I remember when I was about 5 years old I saw her on TV in a movie called "I Saw What You Did ". I didn't know who she was or what the movie was called until years later, but I remember her shrieking and clawing and slapping her way through out the film, first abusing her husband and then a group of teenage girls who were just out pulling a harmless prank. She scared the hell out of me back then.
Still legendary after all these years. I haven't seen any other film like it.. My 10yr daughter had to hide a little during the wire coat hanger scene. Mommy dearest who grew to be one narcissistic, passive aggressive, single, independent mother also struggling with her own alchol addiction, too rich for any social workers to come investigate. It also shoes a women who goes through aging and insecurity. Her sword cuts both ways. 🗡
I love this movie so much because it’s based on a true story
I'm glad Christina exposed her.

Christina Crawford claims in "Mommie Dearest" that she was strangled by Joan Crawford in the summer of 1953.
Here is how she describes this incident in her book:
"The choking pain of her fingers around my throat met the thudding ache of the blow to the back of my head.
Bruises to the face take at least a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks to fade.
In "Survivor" Christina writes:
"In the hospital the doctors questioned me as thoroughly as they could about possible causes of my stroke.
I have utter contempt for Christina."
**ChristinaCrawfordLied**
Actually, if Joan Crawford's childhood was that terrible, inflicting it on her own children isn't surprising. And learn to spell. It's Joan, not Jan.
Having a poor childhood doesn’t excuse her behaviour towards those two poor children! My childhood was difficult at times (psychological abuse), yet my children will NEVER experience hurt and upset like I did!
An amazing actress with a very sordid past.
The actress for mommy dearest as the mom was a superb actress
She Ba Yep, Faye Dunaway was Oscar-worthy in that, far as I'm concerned! Pretty sad that it derailed her career for many years.

Good point, Shannon.

Joan Crawford was a monster. I believe Christina. And thanks to Mommie Dearest the whole world knows the truth about Joan Crawford.
She didn't care about anyone but herself. She had no right to adopt those children.
Joan Crawford was born on 1906 my aunt went to high school with her
I noticed looking up Joan's bio.

Say whatever you want about Joan Crawford..but 3 things are real
1. She was a fine actress
2. She was a lousy mom
3. In her days, she was extrememy good looking
4. Arrogant, hateful, extremely conceited, unable to love or show love.
She was fugly
So the only thing you have to say is about her appearance and that's it?
So? Why should i give i care?
is that what you see in the mirror? It’s called projection@@dawnwalker2084
@@jaengen No do you see kinda dumb when you look in the mirror? She was so hateful and crude. She was an awesome actress but acting is all she did for the public. She fronted a lie to cover her nasty ass attitude and the ability to love. Although I love that she gave the Pepsi men a run for it. 😊
Bette Davis said it best. The book (mommy dearest) was a book about an adopted girl looking for love her whole life. Betty Davis also said that Christina was a desperate girl living in the valley in a hotel when Joan died.
