I feel she is the greatest actress ever lived. there is no other like her. she was just fully focused on her craft rather then the outside influences like all the actors of today. I cannot find anyone like her. Same like the opera singer maria callas.

one of the main reasons Crawford was such a superb actress was because of her face, a skill she learned well as a "silent" actress, today, she's never given credit for this, she was one a very few who transitioned successfully to "sound" pictures.

I've said before, Joan did her best acting with just her face. One scene in this she goes from anger to sorrow in a split second, all without a word spoken. You know just what she's thinking and feeling just by looking at her.

She was brilliant in this......and she was actually beautiful in a natural way. She had 5 more years before her neck got thinker and she developed a jawl. Her husband was a jerk. The short film ends abruptly, but also gives to think all may well turn out in the end.
A cure may be found, and if not, she dies in the hands of someone who really does love her.
I wish it had been filmed better, or perhaps restoration is in order.

That would take guts. After the way she was portrayed in Mommie Dearest, it's hard to imagine that someone would take a chance on a big screen biopic of her. Maybe Netflix? I could be wrong, and Mommie Dearest doesn't still have the same impact it did decades ago.

There are so many opinions about Joan that I don't think anyone knows the truth. Credit should be given to her. From lack of education and raised in poverty and abuse, she created "Joan Crawford," and she studied her craft from visiting sets in the silent days. I believe Christina Crawford's accounts, but I , who had wonderful parents, did things that would look horrendous in a book, The book is good. The movie is like a vignette-embellished- of Joan's misdeeds. Even Christina has said they were highly exaggerated in the movie. I would like to see a biopic that focused on her horrible childhood, and how by sheer will, turned herself into a high class lady.

If only “Rain” had been a success; her audience wasn’t prepared to see her in a classic role. They preferred those vacuous glamour turns that characterized her 1930s career. I was shocked by how bad those films were; the production code made it even worse - no wonder she ended up in trouble by the end of the decade, fighting for better roles. “Rain” was fine; dated now, but her performance was commendable.

How much pain does one woman have to take in her life. At least the husband could have suffered as well considering his disloyalty to a woman who appears to be dedicated, loyal, kind , loving and generous. Reminds me of my own pathetic suffering due to the selfishness of another. But hey …. at least this short film gave me some perspective. Joan Crawford never struck me as the type to weaken when life threw hardballs at her , a nice reminder for all of us [humans] perhaps. Thanks for posting ! 💯👍🏻🌹

If you carefully read her bio, and what she went through at a young age, your respect will grow for this woman. Was she perfect? No. But she fought her way out of dire circumstances, kept her courage, learned her craft and made a successful career for herself. Perhaps in the end, people will judge her for the totality of her life...

There is a 1960? Radio interview with Christina which is VERY telling. I found it on utube recently. I saw the film mommie dearest many years ago but never read the book. Recently I found great audios of interviews with Joan, one of which was in a town/city hall. I also found a chat show interview of Christina in the 80s/90s and she gave me the chills, not just her eyes but her whole demeanor.
I also think it is important to know that Joan's relationship with her youngest children was good.

Yes. It is very common for an abuser to pick out one child as a scapegoat . My mother did it to me-my sister was the golden child, I was terrible to her no matter how well I did in school and activities.

This was wonderful! But sad. Strange surprise storyline twist at the end I certainly did not see coming! Another Academy Award performance by Ms. Crawford. I love all of her work even up until the end of her career in the early 70s.
I do wish someone would do a real, true-to-life, documentary, bio-pic about Joan Crawford that would go into great detail about her life with no lies.

It would've been much better for the doctor to have told her husband that she was going to die, and not to tell her and just treat her lovingly for the remainder of her life. Maybe he would've held off on getting involved with someone else and would not have wanted to take the remaining time for granted and hurt her right before she died. It wouldn't have been too long before he'd be free to start a new relationship after she was gone, and he wouldn't have had to feel the guilt of hurting her.

The adoption lady was Ellen Corby, 'Grandma' from "The Waltons". If this is 1953, then, J.C. would be 45 in this, I think. It's unknown if she was born in 1904 or 1908. Either way, she looks fantastic !!

That was messed up. The doctor was obviously a psychopath who enjoyed lying to his patients and torturing them psychologically. Manipulates Joan into letting her husband walk out on her. And then has the nerve to tell Joan how much he "loves" her. Talk about medical malpractice. All in all, a very enjoyable twenty-six minutes.
