THE INTERVIEW: www.patreon.com/posts/91344073?pr=true This video was a few weeks in the making, i tried some new editing techniques that im still trying out, let me know what u think!
Also... Unlike Minecraft.... Game updates don't break all the mods, usually just bits of mods will break. Mainly if certain classes are heavily changed. Oh and the built in WORLD EDIT is also a sweet thing. Vertical slabs are a thing, Waterlogged blocks can become ICELOGGED instead, etc.
its because minecraft tends to do large backend performance upgrades and system changes between updates (like light engine rewrite in 1.20, worldgen rewrite in 1.18) to allow or more features with datapacks and more unique feature that aren't just hardcoded that can be modified with commands, etc
Yea I just started playing and saw a cool mod, very surprised to see the mod download was all built in, and it feels so rewarding getting stuff in this game with how hard it can be
I remember playing this game with a friend and getting my first temporal storm message, it proper freaked us out. when it hit we were separated and im pretty sure i was like "THEY ARE IN THE WALLS"
Wow - I didn't know Tyron said this is 10% finished! There has been so much added in the last few major updates, that will make it very exciting for all the future updates to come!
Tyron is an absolute genius and a programming beast. I swear that man can singlehandedly pull off more by himself in a month than the entire Mojang studios can do in a year.
yeah, I'm an American and am on a playthrough of auto-terra-firma craft with my friend. So I can't really get it and don't really want to get it until we finish our playthrough
12:34 That's actually kind of a smart decision on his part. Looking at it now, Minecraft definitely became popular way too fast considering it was still in development during the Alpha and Beta phase when things weren't set in stone. The popularity likely shifted Mojang's focus in game design towards a much more wide and general audience and caused them to rush the development cycle of the full release of 1.0 which led to some aspects of the game like the Nether and The End and the lore of the game to lack polish which many updates after 1.0 attempt to flesh out like 1.9 for The End and 1.16 for the Nether as well as 1.19's Ancient Cities and 1.20's Archeology.
it did. one month i was identifying item duplication bugs and working with the dev team, the next no one knew who i was and "thank you for your time. no you wont get into the end game credits. stop talking to us you scammer." :/
@@Sheogorath3477 No. He made VintageCraft which never got that far and was kinda like a worse version of TFC. VS is undoubtedly heavily inspired by TFC though.
Except the annoying excessive grindy bits of TFC and the 2 unobtainium ores you can't find without cheating. The anvil experience is also so much better in VS.
I wish you had gone into mods a bit more because they are absolutely amazing. Unlike in minecraft where large modpacks take an obscene amount of time to make to create a cohesive experience, in vintage story any mod you install will very seamlessly fit into the game and can expand it so much
Can't go without Primitive Survival. I'm a sucker for the Firearms mod because they're the old style wheel locks and muskets. Very impressively animated too. XSkills is incredible for an RPG feel. And I even got that texture pack with the crazy nebula sky and the two suns. All with one click each. I'm just so enamored by the system. You could play Vanilla but I mean the game can be enriched so much with just PS alone.
I bought this game since the early time when it just came out for a week, through out 2 years the game has improved massively and changed so much for the better. Never this game ever has an update that cause fan to uproar. Very active and lovely dev as well.
So glad to see VS getting some attention. I've been thoroughly addicted to this game for over a year now and it just keeps getting better. Truly brought back the magic of playing Minecraft for the first time back in 2012.
I like everything about this game except the minimap. In my opinion, having a map that shows you exactly where you are is bit too op, I know you can disable it, but that makes me almost powerless in terms of orientation. Instead of just the minimap that is currently in the game, I think more realistic map (a piece of paper that you can draw on or something like that) and compass would be way better.
Exactly. And saying "its optional, you can turn it off" isnt enough as either way 90% of people will just choose the path of least resistance aka mini map ON
@@rogoznicafc9672I fail to see why that is a problem. The game is designed heavily around exploration, you will have to travel, often many kilometers over rough terrain to find the resources, ores, and rock strata you need to progress. Gating navigation aids behind resources would discourage exploration early and massively raise the difficulty of finding resources midgame when working bronze. This would create the same issue that has spawned so many map mods for minecraft, namely that you are forced to either use debug coordinates to navigate or stay around your base till you've mined deep enough to get the redstone for a compass to make a map with, and even then that map offers limited functionality and consumes finite inventory space. Given the comparative scarcity of minerals, and the fact that papyrus only exists around the equator means this issue would be much worse in Vintage Story. That said, I'm not against them adding physical mapping tools, the ability to map out your surroundings and hang this map on a wall would be really cool, and it would offer options for those that don't like the more gamey minimap/map solution currently implemented. But I also feel that the current map and waypoint system is really helpful to being able to enjoyably play the game, and if you disagree, you already have the option to disable one or both aspects of it.
I've played this game for over 50 hours now, and most of that time I've either been in pine/maple forests areas and cedar grasslands. The other day, I tweaked some settings on a new world with my friends and made it warm and humid. BAM. Bamboo boys. But not just bamboo, new biomes I had never seen before. Vintage story biomes are MASSIVE, and I've walked and even flew quite a bit around and not seen new biomes on normal worlds. So starting this new world and being surrounded by new plants like Brown Sedge and Papyrus felt so exciting. There's also a lot more chickens around us than we are used to, and we are finding uses for bamboo, especially the shoots which are GREAT for food. We all logged off and I made another new world with the same settings for myself, and I didn't see any bamboo, so I started running south. 3 days journey of running. Collecting as I ran and marking traders and copper on the map, until I reached the southern tip of my landmass. Oak and redwood everywhere, decent copper nearby, plenty of food. It was a paradise. And just across the water... Do my eyes deceive me...? Towering mountains, and what appears to be a DESERT! IVE NEVER SEEN A DESERT IN VS BEFORE!!! So naturally I'm preparing my home and getting myself ready for a fucking adventure. I fucking love this game. That house? The one I was building there? The one I chopped down several huge walnut trees to make? I built that, started baking some pottery in a kiln next to it. Watched it for a minute and ran off to get more wood. I turned around and my whole house was ablaze. 😂 I saved the important stuff, but I lost the house and the massive stack of firewood I was saving for charcoal. It was 2pm, and night was coming. And I had no shelter. Square 1. I fucking love this game. I built my new house, and uh, haha.. hehe, I kept hearing noises at night. Well, haha, turns out there was a cave beneath my house. And as I was jumping for joy at the High Fertility soil I found near the base of the hill my house was on, haha hehe hoho, I triggered a cave in, and a giant sinkhole opened up in front of my house😂😂😂😂😂 I really do love this game lol
thank you so much for talking about vintage story... it is my favorite game ever and i want more people to know of its existence, play it and talk about it...
This video convinced me to buy the game, been playing it all day now, this game is actually awesome, it feels like Minecraft's cousin who's younger, more reserved and far more thoughtful.
YUP Honestly hoping to see more modders mod the game, Vies is one MC modder who ported their mod to the VS game. Fingers crossed on TINKERS, BOTANIA, and maybe TOTEMIC to come in the future. Those three especially FIT the game already, heck it already has molds and casting that could be expanded on.
Veteran Vintage Story Player here, if you got any newbie question before your purchase, Feel free to ask. I literally join servers in winter to have some extre challenge while everyone is logged off for the season because it's "too hard" I chisel my kitchen and pave my floor with actual marble, not chalk.
I have so many hours into Vintage Story. I'm a huge pre-industrial Sevtech fan so this game is great for me You feel so baddass smashing iron blooms with a hammer or setting up your first steel makers But my biggest complaint about the game is the Drifters They have such cool lore, the faux blade brings up a quote that sounds straight out of Bloodborne, " he creatures hide metal in their flesh and their blood flows like sludge. A simple sword will not do here." They sound like intimidating monsters but in reality they look so lame they're dumpy and severely underwhelming design wise, not to mention they're the only enemy on the surface and really common The hardest thing about them is the rock spam and forcing me to turn my volume down the avoid the drifter moan ASMR The drifter lore is so cool, but damn they look really lame, meanwhile there is a chainsaw scorpion thing that looks sick as well in the same game, it's highly intimidating, i wish they brought that energy to some of the higher level drifters instead of it being a normal drifter but rusty
This reminds me so much of Terrafirmacraft which was a mod that loved so much when it was orginally release and now they basically went out and made of full version of it as a standalone game. It looks great
It's 100% heavily inspired by it. Many mechanics and features are quite literally the same or incredibly close to be the same. It's like TFC but a standalone game with some other MC mod influences such as Better Than Wolves or even Thaumcraft. Probably the first "Minecraft clone" that I feel good about. MC itself has really lost me with a lot of their updates and all the chibbi kiddy stuff, kinda going the opposite direction of what I wanted and most of the great mods have been dead for a long time as well. (including the ones that I mentioned that inspired VS). Was really an instant purchase for me after watching a couple videos. Now we just need Etho to play it. He has done both TFC as well as its modpack TerraFirmaPunk so this should probably be right up his alley.
THANK YOU deeply for talking about vintage story. it's a game who is really loved by the both devs and players but it doesn't have the reach that minecraft has. back in the day i not only purchased the game, i made a donation and then purchased the game as a gift for two more people. this game is worth it, the devs are listening to the community and their work is just amazing. guys, really, just chech the "vintage story" youtube. the video about riding elks and boats is just a proof of how much care and love are given to the most tiny details.... or look the official trailer, observe the all details...
Been following Vintage Story for years and bought it just this Summer, it's fantastic. The realistic aspects of it is something you don't see often. Preserving food for the winter, prospecting for ore, molding clay for different cookware and so on. Also a bunch of mods that make things even better, like a mod that allows you to dress and cure your wild animal kills for cooking and leatherworking
Awesome finally some more exospore for this game. I’ve wanted to play this game, but I don’t feel like spending 20 dollars on it since I can’t play it like how I did with Minecraft. Minecraft especially feels like a game I’ve repeated so many times with every possible play style I’ve stopped playing. Mostly because Microsoft made it a pain to use instead of just opening it up and loading a world.
I never played minecraft or watched videos on it because in my mind it was for kids and content creators who make content for kids. but i saw vintage story a few months back randomly pop up on my feed and i’ve been playing it for months now. i survived my first year in my single player world during 1.9x now 1.20 is coming out and they added boats, mounts, more lore, dungeons and horror spider like creatures. this game is everything i’ve wanted from a hardcore survival game and i wish i found it sooner. i’ve now moved to the official VS server and have been having a blast building massive towns and being the main blacksmith for our town of 13 others while trading with other towns and going on big exploration missions with other members of the town for months in-game before returning home with all our new found goods.
Been playing this game the last 4-5 days, enjoying it! There is something so relaxing to me about these style of games with exploring, gathering resources and basebuilding, like Valheim, Minecraft and Vintage Story. Thanks for the video.
6:51 if you find the right trader you can buy some nicely painted pots with rusty cogs. After a while on the public test server, before it was updated, we travelled into the far South for an extra challenge. If you think the wolves are bad, wait till you encounter polar bears! If they successfully stalk you, the first thing you know about it is a growl and sudden death.
Playing this game for the first time brought me flashbacks of my first few times playing Minecraft as a kid. Not knowing how to progress, building a dirt shack just to make it through the first couple of nights, constantly being afraid of dying, the excitement of finding whatever materials you’re looking for, etc. This game is genuinely amazing and it has even more potential! I’m so excited to follow this game for the foreseeable future and keep playing it with my friends! :)
I have yet to live till winter in Vintage Story, even with all mobs sed to Passive and temporal rifts/storms turned off. 10/10 game will knap flint in my mud hut while wild hares ruin my pitiful flax fields again
I love Vintage Story. Every year or so I pop back on and see what they've changed, grab a few mods, and lose myself in the world. Currently I started in the default biome and traveled like 30k blocks south to start a base in the jungle. I'm using Culinary Artillery and Primitive Cooking to really get deep into making food. Its so much fun!
I found this game some time last year due to one of those 100 Days videos. A week later I got into it during my college's winter break and pretty consistently played to two in the morning. After a bit I got my little brother in a bit so we could _actually_ play games together again despite having a potato pc and a slightly beefy laptop. We pretty much only ended up playing around an hour each session (after that he would kinda loose interest due to gameplay repetitiveness, tbh I could keep going) which averaged to about every weekend. Now he's also in his own college and we can't really play together anymore until we are both somehow home for a break. I _really_ should get back into Vintage Story again.
6:40 that is a brilliant idea for a mod! Custom painted ceramics. There are already a surprising amount of those little flavor things in the game with the chiseling and even some decorative versions of the larger clay vessels you can find in the world, that would fit super well!
Found this game last week. After so many years of minecraft, this is exactly what I was looking for. Brutally difficult, even the chickens will attack! But so rewarding because of it. Huddled in the dark, clayforming a pot to cook my meagre catch to get just enough satiation to go out and find some berries in the morning so I can have enough strength to chase down a wild boar. Each day making a little more progress; a seed for the garden here, some extra wood for fences there. Haven't even made it to winter yet!
i've seen dave about 3-4 times due to the rust magic mod requireing you to go into full temporal instabilty. i wish we could get closer to dave just to truly see the scale of him
Tyron is absolutely right when it comes to waiting for it to become popular. The small community it has for now knows exactly what the game needs and the feedback seem to always be on point, if some features aren't liked too much or need balancing, the devs take notes and fix them. Having a huge community now would be a bit detrimental, as they would receive so much questionable feedback from so many people who all want different things. I can totally see the game getting a Steam release and becoming somewhat popular in a few years, but for now the small community is all it needs
I can't say one is better than the other, I feel like they just cater to very different audiences, minecraft is much more casual. Also this reminds me of terra firma craft, god I hated that mod cause I was useless lol
@@Cygnus_MC I'm glad you didn't as it's not on the main store page and is untrue. Heh. It's a common oversight that people think they are TFC devs but they are not and never have been. Only drawn some inspiration from it and have made the Vintage Craft mod.
For me VS recaptures that comforting and homey feeling I used to get from playing Minecraft as a kid. But now I've grown up and VS allows me to do it again, but in a more mature manner. It's not better or worse than Minecraft. It's its own thing, with its own goals and milestones. More primitive and simplistic goals, such as doing nothing more than building a small home and taking care of a garden and combined with more depth and less abstraction. You will have to do more and harder work for less results than in Minecraft. Manual, menial labor is mandatory and the end results are comparatively way smaller than what you're able to do in Minecraft. But it's exactly that scaling down combined with the rustic theming that lets me escape from the complex reality of adult life today and just worry about watering my crops and making wine. It's the digital equivalent of living in a cottage. Of course, the eldritch horrors part of the game is no less intriguing.
Fun fact! Vintage story was originally a minecraft mod inspired by TerraFirmaCraft, and the dev decided to just turn the idea of his mod into a full game! If you dig hard enough, im sure you can find that mod somewhere on the internet
The terrain gen is kinda shit and weird though. Too many small but high hills everywhere, too much weird water blobs. But maybe I'm just too spoiled by the Realistic Terrain Gen mod from MC back then. Certainly something they can improve upon.
@@nemtudom5074 It was a weird one because VintageCraft never got far, as it was basically a worse version of TFC. So people just rather played TFC instead, especially its TerraFirmaPunk modpack. Cool to see this as a standalone game though with so much influences.
@@nemtudom5074 Terrafirmacraft is actually thriving right now, its in 1.20.1 and I know of a modded server with it with like 30 people online at all times
Vintage Story is by far one of the best most involved survival experiences I've ever had in a game. Second only to Project Zomboid, I think. It's a neat game with a budding modding scene, and not to sound like a gatekeeper, I'm glad the community is still small.
you've likely heard of it already, though if you're a fan these two games, maybe CDDA (cataclysm: dark days ahead) may be to your taste too, it's the crossroads betweel vintage story's in-depth crafting and project zomboid's setting and atmosphere (albeit the zombies have special powers in the later days), i can wholly recommend it and i'm a fan of all 3 games
Never in my life have I wanted to pay so much for a video game. I usually have a budget of 500 PHP per game (8.80 USD as of now; the game is past 1000 PHP), but seeing the detail, the plot, and the challenge? I want it.
So just imagine minecraft, but terrafirmacraft installed with shaders, with all of the benefits of being made into a full game such as being well optimized. Sounds good to me.
A little late to the video but i can honestly say i can never go back to playing minecraft after playing vintage story its such an amazing game and is easily one of the best games ive played in the last few years
Definitely going to pick the game up now, but as a redstoner I definitely can't say it's going to tickle all of my fancies when it comes to the concept of "Minecraft but harder"
2nd comment just to separate the tips from the thanks, so here are the tips: tip 0 - torches are temporal light sources. 48 hours and they will burn out. so routinely break them and replace them. they give of an intensity 14 of light. tip 0.3- never enter a body of water with your torches ON HAND NOR the OFFHAND, if you accidentally submerge yourself they will fizzle out and you should relight them. tip 0.6 - if you have the inventory space leave one light torch in your inventory so if you need to make more torches or light wet ones you can easily light them with the already light one. tip 0.9 - be aware that you can easily cause massive forest fires if you accidentally miss the torch lightning in the night, specially if done with the firelighter. controlled forest fire are amazing to clear large areas of land from grass and trees and... life. 1- at the begining NEVER sleep/skip the night unless you absolutely need. sleeping only speeds up time, it doesn't turn night to day like in minecraft. that means that you'll consume hunger, and if you're taking damage because you're starving you're gonna die. instead do some "inhouse" works, such as pottery, panning, sorting items. if you are able to do so, SIFT(panning) BONY SOIL. 1.5- make sure to make cooking utensils! cooked food last longer, feed you more and give you extra bonuses that will increase your max hp. you need AT LEAST a cooking pot and a bowl. 2- animal fat can be tempting to eat, but try to avoid eating it as much as possible. it can be used to seal food containers (keeping your food for longer) or to make oil lamps (light intensity 11) , which give off less light than a torch but it's an infinite light source. 3- don't rush the game... if winter is coming and you don't have enogh to survive move to the south. the closer to the equator the shorter and softer winters are to the point that they are inexistent. 4- explore. there are ruins both underground and on the surface. some underground caves have teleporters (that you canNOT move) that once repaired can teleport you to another ruin that contains a teleporter but in a random location (once used once the teleporters are linked so it allways will go to the same spot), that can massively help traverse the continents, or just letting you into some hard combat placement... 5- torcholders make torches a permanent light sources (intensity of light: 4 ) 6- candleholders give a level 8 light but can be upgraded 7 times to give off a max of 22. (+2/extra candle) 7- metal lanterns don't fizzle out when submerged and give off 18 light, 8- metal lanterns can be upgraded once with a gold/silver plate to give off 20 light. 9- bees live in a warmer climates, so you can either start off in a warm climate or move to the south, towards the equator. 10- root is good! certain items such as bushmeats aren't as useful as one may thing later on because cannot be used to cook. untreated pelts also rot since the last update. you can use the rot to craft the best farming soil, terra pretta, but you will need A LOT of rot to do so, so try to not leave those items behind when an inevitable pack of wolf meets their own demise or a bear try to maul you. 11- on the topic of food, wild crops will most likely NOT grow a stage in a whole year, it's not worth leaving them. the lower their growing stage the less likely to give off seeds when broken, but break them ALL. a chance for getting a seed is better than no seed whatsoever. 12- hares love crops. (fence your crops or you will cry..) 13- raccoons love berries and honey. (fence the bushes and your bees or you will cry... you'll cry A LOT with the bees..) stability is also an important mechanic ingame... never underestimate it. make sure to READ THE GUIDES AND THE MANUAL (press H ingame to open it) it's the best in-game wiki ever!
when you asked about who should make videos on vintage story lore... why not you? maybe on a second channel if you think its going to tank the performance of your main channel?
Two things I like about the game is unlike Minecraft it doesn't try to sugarcoat the process of smelting, crafting, and all the things normal humans get up to just to even the odds, and also it is so hardcore you respawning is a part of the lore, in Minecraft it is just implied that Steve respawning is a thing, only solidified as a Game mechanic, but in VS you are part of a species which have connection to Temporal elements The only other games that have respawns as part of the lore that I can think of are Soulsborne games
@@Cygnus_MC btw i really like the video, the points are really well set and the guy in the sky (the walking creature), he is named Dave by the community
Pick "exploration" preset mode if you want a more casual experience. Playing it with my son now and it's awesome. It's kind of like a semi-peaceful experience.
copper is one thing i dont like from watching playtrhoughs.. cause.. you dont work copper hot.. heating and cooling copper softens it.. you work it cold. it work hardens.. to soften it you heat it then cool it.... my only gripe other than that i LOVE it!
I always recommend to strarting in exploration but hot damn if this aint my favorite game so far. I tried all the MC mods to expand my game but eventually I ground to a halt or they were too specific. Vintage Story takes all the best of the best mods and integrates them into the core game. Mods a plenty if you want them (super easy to install, no separate website) but the base game is enough to keep you entertained and on your toes at least 50 irl hours for just the absolute basics of the basics.
Vintage Story's GREAT! Modding it is super easy too. Highly suggest a backpack mod though. Cellar is way more important that cooking BTW. Panning is the easiest way to get early copper. Do it at night when outside wants to murder you! The game isn't hard. It's complicated, and God forbid, nuanced. Basically everything you need to know is in the handbook [ H ] by default. If it's not, then there's guides on youtube or the forum for it. If you DO want an easier time, there's ONE setting on standard difficulty to adjust- the number of days to a month. This will give you FAR more time before winter to get yourself in gear. Remember- you're squishy until you get your nutrition balanced, and even then you'll never be Minecraft Steve. Dangers abound, but with the right friends, or the right setting (uncheck class specific crafting if you're solo) survival becomes MUCH easier. I can't suggest the sling enough, so get a Malefactor on your team if you are serverside. The smallest cellar is a container buried in the ground under a single block (twig doors don't work as cellar doors, the door needs to be solid). You CAN build greenhouses. Snow accumulates. Pregnant animals don't lose weight over winter, and animals become tame across GENERATIONS. You can have tiny gaps in your indoor walls (50% total of blocks must exist, and no more than 30% of inward side may be missing) making arrow slits viable. And so, so much more. Preserve with salt, make cheese, craft brighter lanterns, rotate crops(then find Terra Preta) learn about steelcrafting, automate simple processes. Head north and freeze to death. Head south and dodge winter. Get good at decorating. It's an amazingly fun game in its complexity.
I kept the seasonal length but removed the storms and kept inventory on for my first game. I wanna try to make it to and through my first winter but I want to avoid death loops and cheesing mechanics, while also having a little bit more of a peace of mind when trying to learn things.
12:38 Not going to lie but I honestly think that this is one of Minecraft's biggest problems. The game grew exponentially in a very short period of time, at a point in its dev cycle when it wasn't even remotely ready.
It's actually funny to see that a small team have managed to create a more complex, good looking and working game than Mojang. Who would have thought, huh? From my observations performance started to go downhill from 1.10.2 and never returned to normal. I'm not going into conspiracy but either Mojang devs can't code or some garbage projects such as chat reporting are taking precios time that could be potentially used to improve performance and game structure in general. Thanks for the video 'cause such gems really need any kind of media support. As a veteran TFC player i was really hyped when this game came out and still periodically revisit it to try out new stuff.

Awesome
I wish you had gone into mods a bit more because they are absolutely amazing. Unlike in minecraft where large modpacks take an obscene amount of time to make to create a cohesive experience, in vintage story any mod you install will very seamlessly fit into the game and can expand it so much
I didnt want to cover too much of the mods. Hence why i gave the outliners! But i do agree mods make this game even better
You could play Vanilla but I mean the game can be enriched so much with just PS alone.
honestly the progression being slow makes everything so rewarding
I bought this game since the early time when it just came out for a week, through out 2 years the game has improved massively and changed so much for the better. Never this game ever has an update that cause fan to uproar. Very active and lovely dev as well.
Tyron was awesome to talk to
So glad to see VS getting some attention. I've been thoroughly addicted to this game for over a year now and it just keeps getting better. Truly brought back the magic of playing Minecraft for the first time back in 2012.
Exactly my experience
I like everything about this game except the minimap. In my opinion, having a map that shows you exactly where you are is bit too op, I know you can disable it, but that makes me almost powerless in terms of orientation. Instead of just the minimap that is currently in the game, I think more realistic map (a piece of paper that you can draw on or something like that) and compass would be way better.
Good suggestion!
they have seemed to be thinking of doing something different with in for the next update. at least what they have shown on their discord
Exactly. And saying "its optional, you can turn it off" isnt enough as either way 90% of people will just choose the path of least resistance aka mini map ON
you can play with the minimap off but world map on, it's much better
And as I was jumping for joy at the High Fertility soil I found near the base of the hill my house was on, haha hehe hoho, I triggered a cave in, and a giant sinkhole opened up in front of my house😂😂😂😂😂
I really do love this game lol
ROFLLLLL

thank you so much for talking about vintage story... it is my favorite game ever and i want more people to know of its existence, play it and talk about it...
Anything for a fellow vs player
This video convinced me to buy the game, been playing it all day now, this game is actually awesome, it feels like Minecraft's cousin who's younger, more reserved and far more thoughtful.
Welcome to the vs community!
@@electrobob992 I would actually love that too, it would be so neat
Wow 10% done! This is like the devs life work! This game is a masterpiece! I only have 75 hours in it and I can say I'm just scratching the surface!.
Sorry Lunar, The axe was lost.
I want it back you scandanavian bastard
Veteran Vintage Story Player here, if you got any newbie question before your purchase, Feel free to ask.
I literally join servers in winter to have some extre challenge while everyone is logged off for the season because it's "too hard"
I chisel my kitchen and pave my floor with actual marble, not chalk.
Awesome to see you here
Shut up lmao
I have so many hours into Vintage Story. I'm a huge pre-industrial Sevtech fan so this game is great for me
You feel so baddass smashing iron blooms with a hammer or setting up your first steel makers
But my biggest complaint about the game is the Drifters
They have such cool lore, the faux blade brings up a quote that sounds straight out of Bloodborne, " he creatures hide metal in their flesh and their blood flows like sludge. A simple sword will not do here."
They sound like intimidating monsters but in reality they look so lame
they're dumpy and severely underwhelming design wise, not to mention they're the only enemy on the surface and really common
The hardest thing about them is the rock spam and forcing me to turn my volume down the avoid the drifter moan ASMR
The drifter lore is so cool, but damn they look really lame, meanwhile there is a chainsaw scorpion thing that looks sick as well in the same game, it's highly intimidating, i wish they brought that energy to some of the higher level drifters instead of it being a normal drifter but rusty
Thanks for reminding me of this! I bought VS two years ago and couldn't stop, and somehow, I forgot it existed!
This video is great! Ive been playing vintage story for 2 years now and its been great!
Glad you enjoy it!
THANK YOU deeply for talking about vintage story. it's a game who is really loved by the both devs and players but it doesn't have the reach that minecraft has. back in the day i not only purchased the game, i made a donation and then purchased the game as a gift for two more people. this game is worth it, the devs are listening to the community and their work is just amazing. guys, really, just chech the "vintage story" youtube. the video about riding elks and boats is just a proof of how much care and love are given to the most tiny details.... or look the official trailer, observe the all details...
if I didn't already own this game your video would have convinced me to get it. Well done
I'd recommend if your new to increase the surface copper spawn amounts in your world.
Thank you for this video, Vintage Story is a great game and it needs all the publicity it can get
i have played a little over 200 hours in this game and i love it and always keep my eyes on the discord to see whats next
Its an awesome game
Be happy,
The next big update is this month:D

I like. I subscribe. I comment. Nice video! Welcome to the vs community
Thanks!
i dont know what it is about the music but it has that minecraft nostalgic feeling to it even though i ve only heard it last year.
ive had the game for about two years now and refuse to get a refund even tho i dont play it very often bc its just such an amazing project
4:48 good joke
Once I get a job I'm getting this, this def is towards the "challenge pack" crowd like rl craft
Yeees
I never played minecraft or watched videos on it because in my mind it was for kids and content creators who make content for kids.
but i saw vintage story a few months back randomly pop up on my feed and i’ve been playing it for months now. i survived my first year in my single player world during 1.9x
now 1.20 is coming out and they added boats, mounts, more lore, dungeons and horror spider like creatures. this game is everything i’ve wanted from a hardcore survival game and i wish i found it sooner.
i’ve now moved to the official VS server and have been having a blast building massive towns and being the main blacksmith for our town of 13 others while trading with other towns and going on big exploration missions with other members of the town for months in-game before returning home with all our new found goods.
Great video man, I hope Vintage Story gets some more attention, cause the devs deserve it.
You and me both!
We need to bug Etho to do a series on it. He played TerraFirmaCraft and its modpack TerraFirmaPunk so it should be very much something for him.
Welcome to the vintage story 😊😊😊😊😊 the item more op its prospect pick ⛏️⛏️
This looks divine and absolutely what I've been looking for. Thank you so much for covering this as thoroughly as you have, and great editing!
Glad it was helpful!
I have yet to live till winter in Vintage Story, even with all mobs sed to Passive and temporal rifts/storms turned off. 10/10 game will knap flint in my mud hut while wild hares ruin my pitiful flax fields again
Sorry to hear that
@@Cygnus_MC thank you, tho it's honestly a skill issue on my part lmao
Dam you went and interviewed the devs for the video? someone putting in work like that is always appreciated
I make it a statepoint nowadays. I get first hand info
Oh class restricted recipes can be disabled, so don't worry players you don't have to be a tailor to craft special clothes.
Your channel is doing pretty good. Making a gaming channel is the boss fight of TH-cam
I don't see myself as just a gaming channel, more of a gaming focused channel if that makes sense
The way you started the video explaining all that, was doing what you said you wouldn't do.
Yeah that was kinda the joke hahah
Maaaan, it makes me so happy to slowly see Vintage Story getting more attention!
I LOVE this game
These are like Minecraft mods perfectly blended
Always love people talking about my favorite game!
"the lsd dimention , were nothing makes sense anymore"

I first learned about this game like 3 days ago
I immediately became obsessed with it, and yesterday I finally added it to my collection
finnaly this gem of a game is getting the attention it deserves.
Goodluck young one, may your campfire keep you warm at night
Just started a couple days ago. Im in ❤. What a fantastic survival game.
" A pig in a slaughterhouse would looks at you with pity in his eyes. " ~Welcome to the block game master race!
i've seen dave about 3-4 times due to the rust magic mod requireing you to go into full temporal instabilty. i wish we could get closer to dave just to truly see the scale of him
its liek it takes the best elements of a hardcore roguelike, minecraft, and Eco, and combines it into one
YEAH, Because it was made by Tyron and Saraty aswell!
They made those mods back then!
@@viinolul6622 oh that makes so much sense now
Damn
So that's what people mean by "shifted from mod to being a separate game"
Yes, i neglected to include this as its on the main store page
@@viinolul6622 FYI - No they didn't. They made Vintage Craft and have only ever been inspired by TFC.
Basically...
TerraFirmaCraft but the landscape is stunning. :D
I LIKE IT!!!

2:15 literally exactly how I have bveen describing the game to people. Primitive Technology meets minecraft meets lovecraft mythos. beat me to it.
Never in my life have I wanted to pay so much for a video game. I usually have a budget of 500 PHP per game (8.80 USD as of now; the game is past 1000 PHP), but seeing the detail, the plot, and the challenge? I want it.

2nd comment just to separate the tips from the thanks, so here are the tips:
tip 0 - torches are temporal light sources.
5- torcholders make torches a permanent light sources (intensity of light: 4 )
6- candleholders give a level 8 light but can be upgraded 7 times to give off a max of 22. (+2/extra candle)
7- metal lanterns don't fizzle out when submerged and give off 18 light,
8- metal lanterns can be upgraded once with a gold/silver plate to give off 20 light.
(fence your crops or you will cry..)
13- raccoons love berries and honey. (fence the bushes and your bees or you will cry... you'll cry A LOT with the bees..)
stability is also an important mechanic ingame... never underestimate it. make sure to READ THE GUIDES AND THE MANUAL (press H ingame to open it) it's the best in-game wiki ever!
when you asked about who should make videos on vintage story lore... why not you? maybe on a second channel if you think its going to tank the performance of your main channel?
Hmmmmmmmm why not
7:40 SAVE ME KITTYMAN!
Two things I like about the game is unlike Minecraft it doesn't try to sugarcoat the process of smelting, crafting, and all the things normal humans get up to just to even the odds, and also it is so hardcore you respawning is a part of the lore, in Minecraft it is just implied that Steve respawning is a thing, only solidified as a Game mechanic, but in VS you are part of a species which have connection to Temporal elements
The only other games that have respawns as part of the lore that I can think of are Soulsborne games
This video was so great, I wanted to show by brotheren to get them in on a multiplayer and this video was perfect a explanation !!

copper is one thing i dont like from watching playtrhoughs.. cause.. you dont work copper hot.. heating and cooling copper softens it.. you work it cold. it work hardens.. to soften it you heat it then cool it.... my only gripe other than that i LOVE it!
Handbaskets give you 3 slots as far as im aware
the game remind me of terafirma craft, craftings are very similar
As a person who played both of them, vintage story feels much better in every direction.
But yea, they have a lot in common
Vintage Story's progression is explicitly inspired by Terrafirmacraft. Surprised this was never mentioned!
@@jayglenn837it's made by the same people!
Yeah! Thats an oversight on my end. I thought it was pretty common knowledge
7:47 Benjamin Ultrakill, is this you?
12:38
Not going to lie but I honestly think that this is one of Minecraft's biggest problems. The game grew exponentially in a very short period of time, at a point in its dev cycle when it wasn't even remotely ready.
Yep
this looks cool, really shows how minecraft has become corporate slop
It's actually funny to see that a small team have managed to create a more complex, good looking and working game than Mojang. Who would have thought, huh?
From my observations performance started to go downhill from 1.10.2 and never returned to normal. I'm not going into conspiracy but either Mojang devs can't code or some garbage projects such as chat reporting are taking precios time that could be potentially used to improve performance and game structure in general.
Thanks for the video 'cause such gems really need any kind of media support. As a veteran TFC player i was really hyped when this game came out and still periodically revisit it to try out new stuff.
Excellent vid- pls make more!
would love to see more of Vintage Story specifically! Such a Gem of a game.
