The 'ProspectorInfo' mod is imho hands down the single most important clientside mod you can install for making prospecting MUCH less painful. It takes the readout the propick gives for density search mode results and highlights the chunk you took the reading in on the minimap and will list the results when you hover the mouse pointer over it. You can also pick an ore and have those highlighted chunks read as a heatmap to help track down higher %'s of a specific ore.
@@welcometovalhalla2884You use it in standalone server? Or via singleplayer Open to net? I play with My friends in singleplayer Open, this would be so useful
nah u gotta play how the developer intends you to play, no short cuts or easy tapouts. only and only if the dev decides to add that feature then it becomes legal
Bit of info to add too, the number isnt a percentage, which is %, but rather per mille, the ‰ symbol. It mostly tells you how much of the chunk has the potential to be that ore However the better thing to look for is the first part of the reading, the density, when looking for ores, as it tells you the spawn tries for that chunk. The higher, the more times the chunk tries to spawn the ore, even if it's a lower per mille
Bonus tip, use the loose stones you get from mining to fill in the floor spaces while underground. If they havent changed it, it should prevent any drifter spawns from happening
@@WinstonWhitetail Yeah, I'm playing with 3 other friends and we layered the floor of our home with rocks. During storms at least, they keep spawning despite the full coverage 😩
Oh yeah during storms it overwrites it, but outside of them it works a good bit of the time You can tell the difference between the spawns with a big space underground when it's covered vs uncovered, it's massive Plus those sawblade locusts hurt like a bitch so i'd want to avoid them randomly spawning in small spaces
one mod you might want to instal anyone who plays this game , even if you play vanilla (as i am a bit visualy impaired so for me its a bit nessesity) is "juicy ores" it helps to see ores much better , for me Zinc usualy was blending so much it was impossible to see in most rocks , and mod also makes ores look much better.
Aim at a rock block, press H while holding Shift. You’ll get an info window on top of screen telling what kind of ore (if any) that rock block can yield
Still trying to figure out the mining and prospecting, but man these videos are really helpful and appreciated ! Probably the third time I’ve watched it all the way through
thanks for this, super useful. I understood the concept from the guidebook but it wasn't clear the range and accuracy like was it in like the whole biome or what but this shows clearly how you can get pretty precise with it
Few things to add. 1) cross shaped triangulation works well: you find the maximum of promille on ns axis, then move along ew axis to find the maximum staying on the same ns coordinates. Once found the ew maximum - the ore is under you in most cases (unless it is two non overlapping deposits with maximum between them, which is addressed by moving 30-40 blocks away) 2) tin is one of the hardest to find. One deposit equals 0.1%% on the reading. But once you see 0.2%% - it is two deposits under you - zero chance to miss. 0.3%% is three deposits etc. If not finding any 0.2s - it is quicker to switch to bismuth bronze search. 3) it is better to stick to hematite rather than magnetite or limonite for iron, as the deposits are bigger and are seen from far away. 4) it is fully reusable and very convenient to use rope ladders. Generally you can manage with only 2 rope ladders, which is worth of 12 reeds and 3 sticks. But having some stack of these will serve you for the whole lifetime. 5) the density mode shows results for the first block out of 3, which can help in locating that elusive deposit under you: just stand on the same place and take 4 different probes (in total 12 blocks broken) starting each time to n/w/s/e. The direction of bigger %% is your direction. Works well for halite and iron ores.
im really loving the vintage story videos! i just learned about this game and i am LOVING it so far! your videos are always my favorite guide videos and im happy there's tons for this new game!
Currently at the same point as you were and I'm getting slaughtered in caves... Are they something I should stay away from for now or is there any advice you could give?
Prospector Info mod is a god send for this. It automatically mark your map when you prospect. it only shows on the map when you are holding a prospector pick
At some point when discussing density search you say to go "up" when you went at a perpendicular angle to where you'd been working, but it's worth emphasizing that truly *vertical* difference *absolutely does not matter* when using density search (except that the 16-block limit might still apply, I don't know).
This gives me hope that I might find cassiterite some day. You make it sound easy enough to understand, and doable. I'm in my first winter and I have copper tools.
Update: I was searching so long with the pro pick, then I went in a random cave and just found it there in the walls. I'm in the iron age at this point. But now I'm having trouble finding borax for the anvil (and for leatherworking), there's only miniscule amounts on the pro pick. I've also not been able to find limestone or chalk for limewater. I've resorted to spending all my rusty gears at the trader for lime (it was a good deal!)
Thanks today was my first big prospecting day. Since I was just starting my general search i did pretty well, could've been a few refinements though. I'm in a .2% cass area. Might do a bit more tunneling to see if I can get that higher but otherwise its time to go back home, get a couple more picks and propicks ready, make some ladders, and get to it!
Almost a year in and I’m struggling to find tin and lead. My world is full of wolves and bears and I’m so scared to go caving with just bronze tools and no armor.
Same here, but I decided to start caving today and it`s not that bad. The Falx is strong enough to deal with most enemies, and Wood Lamellar Armor is strong enough to be honest. I thought I would take waaay more damage from Drifters, Bowtorns, Shivers and Locusts I used a Falx and around 8 spears to throw at them. The only problem is the durability of my Falx went to 23 and relying solely on spears isn't doing the job properly so I had to retreat after destroying two Locust Nests and finding some Bismuth (sorta unfortunately, because I wanted Tin instead)
In the handbook you show at around 6:54 it shows "per thousand" not percent. Now I don't know if its actually per thousand or percent, but I do assume when they make that documentation with a sign almost never used they really wanted it to be per thousand. It doesn't change the good info you put in this guide and doesn't really affect how you search for ore :-)
To use another method, look for ore bits to "ping" which ores are gonna be in the area. This greatly speeds up finding some ores you require and reduces material amd durability use.
I love the prospecting and finding ore aspect of Terrafirmacraft for Minecraft but that is a wildly out of date experience. I've been binging Vintage Story content cause my system can't run it.
That's pretty accurate, I believe VS is directly inspired by TFC but instead of sticking with MC and making TFC addons/changes they just decided to make a separate game. I sure hope the game works out, its lacking features I like about TFC like cave ins, that or every creator i've watched disables it if its a toggleable feature. I enjoy the experience of prospecting around solid rock and building out an extensive mine shaft.
@@ham8426Cave-ins and instability for dirt is a toggleable choice when you start s new world (or use commands in-game). You can absolutely play with using support beams for mining to avoid the ceiling coming down :)
