@@iainballas Ironically, by choosing not to provide those who're most at risk with proper and dignified healthcare, the general risk increases - illnesses might break out and spread there, to those high-and-mighty 'productive citizens'. And how do people think someone can find work if at every opportunity, they're getting kicked further down? Do people really think that others want to live in such squalor? I never understood the US healthcare system. In my country, all you need to do is show up in the ER and you’re taken care of for free, even if you haven’t paid a single cent to the country in form of taxes or anything.
Its the same here in the US. emergency room care is free if you can't pay. If you make less than a certain amount, you also fall into medi-cal here in california and get free healthcare. But the problem here is that we get millions of people each year who come in illegally from south of the border, and they put a massive stress on the healthcare system. In the end, there is no such thing as "free" healthcare. someone has to pay for it, and the more people who come in who take free stuff, the less there is for everyone else and the more it costs those who are paying for everybody. It makes life harder for the very people we should be rewarding and helping- those who work hard to make a living and support their families, at the benefit of those who need help and those who take advantage of the free help. If you have a country where few people immigrate into and most people work, then its not an issue. But if you get into a situation where a bunch of people from other countries keep migrating in and don't contribuite enough to the system, or your population of people who don't make much money grows.. then things go bad. Plus if your country spends obscene amounts of money on social programs and its military... then its even worse.
No background checks on past medical history, age, no checks for necrotic tissue, no checks to see if the drugs he prescribed could cause contraindications such as allergic reactions. No cleaning of the wound site and just jumping straight into action. American TV.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Medical Center is a public hospital located in Little Rock. Im extremely sad watching and reading all this... Here in Germany, we have top notch docs, surgeons, nurses, all for "free". Our (very payable) insurance covers legit every official treatment, even if it costs millions of euros/dollars. The insurance salesmen are still crooks, but we have laws that prevents them from not covering the costs, especially in emergencies. You can call the EMR, birth children and get surgeries and it will never cost more than ~50€/$. I really hope you can change things soon, for the benefit of everyone.
@ggc1003 - I do realize that. No, I’m not looking for free. I’m looking for competent physicians that recognize: having a severe brain injury doesn’t make you instantly crazy or criminally insane, the fact they repeatedly under medicate and under treat patients, refuse to work with patients who have high amounts of different allergies and/or do not understand that nutritional deficiency testing IS a necessity. Add medical transportation that doesn’t cost large amounts of money to that list …. The frustration is horrible when you only have Social Security Disability as your income because you can’t work …
The notion of free healthcare for the poor is always very attractive and well-intended, but it is also astoundingly juvenile. First, there is the fact that we live in a country with a specific culture that would abuse the system so horribly as to see it defunct within a matter of weeks. And even if we magically avoided that inevitability, we'd still never, ever, ever be able to fund it. Even if the US government taxed the upper earning HALF of the ENTIRE US population 95% of their entire yearly income from here on out, that STILL wouldn't be enough money to pay for this type of healthcare for even two years.
You do realize that most developed countries have universally publicly funded healthcare insurance systems. It is entirely feasible if there is political will to do so.
