    Great video/review. I’m running a similar setup (MBP+CalDigits, PC, both to G9). I’m interested in what you’re doing to share peripherals between Mac/PC (USB), what you have plugged into the monitor, and what you’re doing for webcam with speakers/mics. My previous monitor (all Mac, 5K LG) had all of this integrated but obviously can’t do PC gaming! Needed an upgrade, G9 is dope.

    Do you think that I'd be able to get a sweet gaming experience splitting the screen in half with PBP to play some games with my partner shoulder to shoulder? She's on a laptop right now so anything would be better but I'm thinking that this might be one of the cases where less curvature would be best.

    • @FelixG
      @FelixG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PeteMatheson Nice that's fun to hear! :)
      Asked a few and gotten a mixed response, but I'm not looking for the most optimal set up just something viable to be able to split screen some games on.
      Yep, on release PbP was locked to 60hz but firmware update 1006.2 should have introduced native support for 120hz. Before support people were able to get those refresh rates by setting custom resolution in nvidia even up to 160hz iirc but with frame skipping. No idea about freesync/g-sync in PbP though.

    Hi Peter, thanks for the review. It inspired me to get one. My work and home laptops have HDMI cables only - no DP. What should be the best way to set this up to get the best resolution out of the monitor? I bought 8K HDMI which gives me 59/60hz and the monitor only has one input for an HDMI cable which means I can only use one laptop. I wanted to be able to connect my work and home machines to the monitor. I am tempted to buy the usbc, using your link in the description above. I am not sure if this is for Mac only. What must I do to get a better resolution from the monitor as seen in your video and to be able to use two machines on this monitor?
    Thank you.

    Like the video. I know you mention two monitors in this video. So wanting to see which could help with what I want to do. What I am looking to do is get as minimalistic as possible with my current setup. I have (3) 27 inch monitors and 3 laptops. Two of the 27 inch monitors are connected to a Dell USB hub. On that hub 2 monitors are connected via HDMI, a Blue Snowball USB microphone, a sound bar using the 3.5mm cable, a keyboard/mouse via Bluetooth, an ethernet cable connected and have a couple of usb memory sticks. I have a surface pro 6 that connects to the Dell USB hub via a single USB cable. So I can use all of the monitors, sound bar, microphone, etc via this one USB A cable. Now one of the other laptops I have was hooked up to another USB hub by IBM. That USB hub has a 27inch monitor hooked up to it and that's all that is hooked up. However, recently I was sent a replacement laptop from work and that new laptop has nothing but USB-c ports on it. So before I buy any adapters to convert the USB-C to something that will let me use that IBM USB Hub and 27 inch monitor, I want to see about becoming much more minimalistic and clean up and reduce power consumption etc. One last thing I will throw in is I am working on another project for another company and they sent me a new MacBook Pro 16 inch that has nothing but USB-C. Then I discovered that lovely feature that is known as USB-C where you can use a single cable to connect the MacBook Pro to a single USB-C port say on a USB hub and the hub would also charge that MacBook laptop. Now taking everything into consideration, this is what I am looking for. I want to get a 49 ultra wide, I want to get rid of the (3) 27 inch monitors, I want to get rid of the USB hubs and this type of reduction would allow me to get rid of 3 monitor power bricks that take up a ton of space. It will also allow me to get rid of 2 power connections from the hubs. The on Dell hub I have a nice sleeve like device that hides all the wires except the usb a cable that connects the Surface and a power cord comes down below my monitors that power the surface. I am building a custom raising desk and plan on hiding the laptops below the desk on brackets or mini shelf so the laptops are out of the way. They 3 laptops will be mounted underneath and close to the back of the desktop. That way I can run two usb-c (1 for the MacBook and 1 for the new Dell) and one display port (for the Surface pro). I want the cables to plug into a single ultrawide monitor and I want to be able to use/display two laptops at once on the single monitor. I want to use a single mouse/keyboard on any one of the 3 laptops. I understand I may not be able to get all 3 laptops connected to the monitor at the same time but that is definitely something I hope could be done. I want to be able to display 3 laptops on the monitor at the same time or at least 2 laptops at the same time with the ability to flip a switch to go to the 3 laptop or pick and choose which of the monitors I want to see on the screen at the same time. Of course I also want the microphone, sound bar and other usb devices to be shareable on any of the 3 laptops. I am sure I may run into a roadblock, for example, I do not think I would be able to have a sound bar or microphone work on two machines at the same time nor would I want to. I have read about some of the ultrawide monitors having a kvm type switch. Question is, can I have it switch between 3 laptops? Can I still have two machines using the monitor but the speaker and microphone doesn’t work till I say flip a kvm switch? I have researched but could not find info on any of the ultrawides that have multiple USB-c ports if you can have more than one laptop be charged via USB-C at the same time. Matter of fact several of the newer hubs out that will have one USB-C port specifically made to charge a laptop and then have other usb-c ports that don’t seem to be able to charge a 2nd laptop. I also saw in one USB-C hub that while charging a mac laptop via USB-C it seemed to be under powered and other connected devices were having issues because that recharging of the laptop was using most of the power on the device and that is with only one laptop being charged. This was a lot to write but I had to get it written down to share. I picture no laptops on my new desk, a single keyboard/mouse Bluetooth wireless, all laptops hidden under desk connected to a single monitor. The usb-c laptops would get charged by the monitor and the Surface pro that does not have USB-C would have a power brick connected to it. The microphone would be mounted on edge of desk next to monitor. If the monitor can support ethernet that would be nice but not a big deal. Looking for some help on this. My backup plan would be to get another hub but then I am not sure what to get when it comes to having a hub that could charge two USB-C based laptops at the same time and not have a power problem for other devices.

    Good morning!
    I've got the new MacBook Air. Is it possible to connect this to the monitor? I can't seem to get it to work - I'm not sure if it's me or whether the Air doesn't have the power to connect.
    Thanks a lot!

      @@PeteMatheson Hey Pete, I'm poised to buy and was wondering if you'd had any problems with the G9, like the cracking noise some have reported as it heats up and cools down. Also do you have any experience with the alternatives from Philips and LG? It's proving a ittle tricky to grasp the differences between them all. I won't be gaming so figure the G9 might over overkill🤣 though I can see the 1000R curve could be a clincher.

    One warning before you try to wall mount it or put it on a desk arm. I’m not aware of any mount that is capable of handling that monitor, regardless of what its weight limit is advertised to be. The problem is that the curve of the monitor makes it so front heavy that mounts simply aren’t strong enough to hold it without it drooping forward. Look around the web and you’ll see people who have arms that advertise over 40 pounds still cannot handle this. Make sure that any mount purchased in the future have tested with this specific monitor.

    I think whatever device you use, you will need the latest displayport cable (1.4a I think) to run the full mhz. I have an Asus 34" RoG monitor and the G9 is the monitor I am thinking of upgrading to. I recently bought an RTX 3090 GPU and have an i9 CPU.

    I keep looking at this monitor, however, still cannot work out what would be best for my setup due to having 2 windows pcs and 1 MacBook pro.
    As I am always using the mac on one side of the screen and switching between the two desktops on the other. However, I keep changing the keyboard inputs and reconfiguring the mouse every time and using a KVM for a few USB devices and the buttons on my current monitor to switch between the other desktops which seems the best solution at the moment, however, cannot think of a better way.

    I ordered a g9 in the Amazon black Friday sale, saving £200. Very excited to set it up. Upon turning it on there was a issue with a single dead pixel, red. Sadly not in the far left or right but bang center just to the right . I have read on Samsung main page many people having issues with dead pixels. But ignoring this, I also had issues with games, I have a rtx3090 and 10900k 5.4 overclocked rig as I build gaming pcs here in Cornwall as a business. I have used the screen for 1 day and ask for collection, the big issues is the compromise. To run a game at 240hz you have to ideal loose her and definitely dxr (raytracing). So you gain smooth FPS, but make it look naff. I then tried the picture in picture to have in effect 2x27 screens side by side. This would then give me a single issue 27 screen with hopefully HDR and raytracing. But nope you get reverted to 120 hZ maximum. Another issue is setting up game resolutions, I forced a more of 3440x1440 making black lines side by side, windows worked but the game Borderlands did not respect it unless you play borderless, in effect stretching the screen. My conclusion is the hardware is not there yet even with a 3090 and godly cpu as a gaming monitor. With the bad pixel in my face I have let it go sadly. Back to my Asus 100hz ultrawide

    • @computers2max
      @computers2max 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PeteMatheson they did release a firmware update that fixed the flashing, I applied the update and this may have fixed the vrr HDR issue with flashing. My issues was with game company's make the games to certain resolution's. I hoped forcing the g9 to those resolutions would help but it started to stretch them. I had a few times the pc hand completely on me forcing a whole pc reboot. The monitor performed as it will. But with games not making those resolutions viable that's the issue. One example dlss is Nvidias trick to allow more FPS in 4k. And as this screen is close to 4k resolution due to it been 1440x extra wide 5120. This means you take a hit at these resolutions and without dlss ray tracing is a big hit on FPS, which means you can't get the 240hz. This monitor is ahead of it's time a little I would say. I loved the 1000r curve and in the game I played battlefield V it looked amazing (but I had to choose lower FPS loosing 240hz loosing HDR and ray tracing)
