    7:16 Thanks Joe for sharing points about using it for telework productivity! You’d think that with all the videos out there on this product, and people may still be 100% telecommuting since the pandemic, many reviewers would cover this fact.

    Outstanding video brother!! I've been researching a handful of UltraWide monitors to replace my current dual monitor setup for telecommuting. This particular setup is only used for work as I have a different/dedicated gaming setup. Long story short, I have watched a ton of YT vids on this monitor and several others I've been looking at. Your video is the first and only one that covered EXACTLY the details I was curious about on this particular monitor. I screenshare via Lync and WebEx frequently and had serious concerns about how the screen being shared would actually look via PBP. I think your video finally addressed that particular concern. A big Thank You for the time and effort it takes to make YT content like this! Subscribed, liked and I look forward to seeing more of your content in the future sir.

    The part about windows recognizing pbp mode as 2 separate screens is what I've been wondering and never been able to find anyone talking about it or demonstrate how it would work/look. Because I want the dual monitor usability for playing games on 1 and doing other things on the other but don't actually want 2 physical monitors while still using 1 pc. Thank you so much!

    The productivity section of this review was great. I'll be using this for gamedev + gaming, as well as for my regular day job which also deals w/ SQL / sysadmin work. I totally forgot this monitor had picture-by-picture mode and that being useful for screenshares/etc is a key selling point xD Thanks for the unexpected insight! :D I'll be going for the Neo for the mini-LED instead, but iirc it has the same capability.

    I like to see I have almost the same setup as you. Last month I got the Neo G9 with the Ergotron Wall-mount (not the desktop one you use). And also have the same Hue lights. The difference with my setup is that I have mounted the hue lights on the wall, and use the white reflection of the G9 for indirect light to the wall (no circular spots, but also a bit less bright). If you're interested, I could show you some photos from my setup.

It seemed like sharp curve, but then after using it.. i had the same impression you describe for this ''bigger brother''= it looks straight if you are centered well. Highly recommend moving ur task bar to the right or left it makes it very nice in give more screen real estate and for window gaming it actualy doesnt put the task bar under the game. For daily driving and normal mmo/single player games i only do 240 refresh mode in monitor settings but only 120 refresh with 10 bit color. It seems to stop the cracking sound. I will just switch to 240 refresh mode only when doing like csgo or something

    Great vid, question does the pbp run in full resolution , for example if I have a Mac on the right and ps5 on the left will it give the ps5 120hz? Not sure if you’ve tested something like this.

    • @techbrojoe
      @techbrojoe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an interesting question and you sent me down a rabbit hole for my own knowledge. Replying to help anyone else with this question since it's very specific!
      I have a PS5 and just played around with it in PBP mode. I can't seem to make it go to 120hz and 1080p plugged into the HDMI with COD Warzone. It is stuck at 1080p - 60hz when COD Warzone is launched. I have the latest firmware on my G9, and my PS5 is updated. I even changed the HDMI output from PC to AV and still no luck since I read on Reddit sometimes that helps on other monitors. It didn't in this case.
      I tried an HDMI to DisplayPort and the G9 could detect the PS5, but displayed nothing.
      I tried COD Warzone on the PS5 on my LG CX OLED TV and it did go to 120hz and 4K when I launched it on the LG CX OLED since it has HDMI 2.1. The G9 Odyssey has HDMI 2.0.
      The weird thing is I have 2 PC inputs right now and I had been leaving them at 60hz. It looks like my desktop PC (displayport plugged in) and laptop (HDMI plugged in) are plugged in and I just changed them both to run at 120hz individually on 1440p, so that's pretty cool. I had never thought of checking if that was possible.
      Maybe someone found a hacky way to do it with special accessories? However, I didn't encounter anything that useful on Reddit. So I'd say it is NOT possible to run a PS5 at 120hz with PBP with the G9 Odyssey.
      Lastly, PS5s don't support 1440p apparently. Only options I see are 1080p and 2160p (4k). I don't understand the supersampling/scaling tech or anything and don't claim to know either, so maybe someone else has explained how exactly it works on the PS5.
      EDIT: Fixing grammar!

    I only went from a 24 inch 1080p flat monitor to a 32 Inch curved 1080p monitor not too long ago. The curve is super smexxy. Thinking I need to try out a higher resolution though. I miss the sharpness of my old GD245HQ. Never got to try it's 3D abilities.

    • @techbrojoe
      @techbrojoe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah rule of thumb is usually...
      24 inches = 1920x1080p
      27 inches = 2560x1440p
      32 inches or more = 3860x2160p (4K)
      I think usually you want a PPI (pixels per inch) around 100+ minimum for text sharpness. Rtings.com has good PPI measurements for the monitors they review. The PPI on the G9 is 109, so the text clarity is pretty good imo.

    Looking to upgrade that as well, but with the gpu market as it is, well 😂

      Yeah I'm not sure what games you could get anywhere close to 240hz that are demanding on even the best hardware. I can get League of Legends and games like that pretty high consistently like 190 fps or more, but I have a 3090 and a 7700K. Everything seems to bottleneck on my CPU since it's so old!
      However, even running titles around 80-140 fps still is wonderful. The aspect ratio is just fantastic when a game supports it. I love it!

    • @johnvvoorthuijzen2653
      @johnvvoorthuijzen2653 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@techbrojoe Oh I'm not expecting 240 fps at all, nor do I need that for the games I play :) From what I understand the monitor offers the best experience below 220hz anyway.
      I received the monitor today, setting it up on my own was good exercise! I previously used 2 27" screens, so was only expecting a real difference in games etc. But just on desktop the difference really jumps out at you. Had time to try some Far Cry 6, looks fantastic and had a really good experience! 60+ fps with no noticeable drops. Really impressed with this so far, happy with the purchase!

    I had this monitor and used it for several years (previous iteration 5120x1440), still have it in the basement :) There is something off about it. It is vertically challenged. Also not good for video editing as it doesn't support 4K. Colors are good, played Diablo IV on it coule of weeks ago and enjoyed the vibrancy. Good portion of games don't support ultrawides, btw, and it's only good for gaming IMHO.
    Switched to Dell 40" 21:9 monitor (5Kx2K) and now not sure if I'd go for the 57" version (New Odyssey G9 Neo) - tempted, but likely no. Also no G-sync on new one and my 4090 can't transfer data fast enough. And there are no speakers.

    What a great review! It answers many valid questions future buyers might have that are not mentioned or discussed elsewhere, so well done 👍
    I have an question though to you or other genuine owners about productivity with two computers: 1st is my home desktop computer, and 2nd is my work laptop.
    My home computer would connect to the monitor via single DP and utilize the full resolution. My laptop would connect to the monitor via two cables: one HDMI and one mini-DP (which would go to the other DP on the monitor). For the laptop, the idea would be to use it as two screens via the monitor's PBP feature. As the review mentions, using PBP via two cables from the laptop is the ideal setup which would make using MS Teams, Zoom etc much easier.
    My concern is related to the easiness of setting this up and switching between my home computer (DP1) and work laptop (HDMI1 + DP2, using PBP). As I'm supposed to switch between my two devices several times a day, how easy would be to e.g. switch from my home computer to the laptop? Does the monitor have any concept of memorizing the previous setup or does it have input "profiles"? If not, how much time (or how many clicks on the monitor) would it take to switch from my home screen (DP1) to the laptop and set up PBP for HDMI1+DP2 ? Could this at least be optimized via hotkeys via OSD?
    If there's software for this monitor, I would be able to install it on my home computer, but my laptop is locked, so installing any additional software wouldn't be possible.
    Thank you very much, and once again, a great review! 👍

    • @techbrojoe
      @techbrojoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not sure if there is software to make it easier. However, to switch the inputs it is only like 2-3 clicks with navigation up and down on the menu using the button on the monitor. Open the menu go to PBP and then select a new screen for your left or right. It seems to sort of memorize your inputs. If you unplug the laptop dock or an input it seems to forget and you have to set it up again.

    Hey question, I can't make up my mind. Stuck between getting two 32" 4k monitors vs this monitor. There are obviously pros n cons. Considering I am a software dev and work in IT I wanted to get your thoughts.

    • @techbrojoe
      @techbrojoe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the kind words and glad the video was helpful!
      Well you would definitely have more screen space than the G9 with 2 4K displays at 32 inches and I assume the pixel density would make the text really sharp and clean on those displays too.
      I think the big sell on the G9 is the 1000R curve and how awesome it looks in video games that support 32:9 resolution. I don't have any issues reading text on this monitor because the pixel density is pretty good for a 1440p display. I also think the 1000R curve makes everything easier on my eyes after staring at code and documentation all day.
      However, I think either set up would be great, but you should definitely try the 1000R curve since it's out of this world. Definitely purchase it from somewhere with a good return policy just in case you end up hating it, but I absolutely love it. If you live near Best Buy sometimes they have the G7, G5 or CRG on display so you can get a good look at it in person.
      Lastly, if you don't play a lot of games that support 32:9 then the 2 4K displays is probably a better choice.

    Hoping that you still read this. I'm also looking to use it for productivity and read some people are complaining about text nog being displayed very crisp. Is this something you've noticed? Furthermore, does the cracking also happen during use or only when you turn it on? Thanks a bunch!

    • @techbrojoe
      @techbrojoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cracking varies on temperatures. The colder months it cracks a lot. The warmer month it still crackes since it's cold in my house haha. Maybe newer models like the NEO don't do it since I have a friend who has one and he says it doesn't crack. The text is crisp in my opinion. I tried the G7 32 inch and the text looked awful and hard to read before I bought this monitor. I returned the G7 32 inch. www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g9 has a ranking for the text clarity. 7.5? It's not the most crisp text ever, but it isn't pixelated at 5120x1440p.

      So I’m not a color or blacks snob. I just am in love with the the 1000R curve, 32:9 support for games like Destiny and seamless PBP screens for work. I don’t think the mini LED is worth it since I think you need the Ergotron mount for this monitor to be next level and that is another $400. I reviewed it in another video and think it was totally worth it.
      I don’t think the Neo is worth another $1500. I have an OLED LG CX and it does look nicer in horror movies and dark games, but it wasn’t worth the extra $800 or so for me. It’s cool I guess, but again I’m not huge into blacks or color accuracy. However, if budget isn’t an issue and you want cutting edge just to have cutting edge then the Neo makes sense.
