- Over the last few months, I have made some videos giving you a closer look at the Superstock bike, so whilst we had some time at @TTRacesOfficial we filmed a closer comparison as promised.
Sit back, grab a beer and let me show you the OMG Racing Superbike and Superstock bikes. I explain some of the details we have to consider when we take on the TT Mountain Course.
Please add any questions to the comments below and I will do my best to answer them.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments! Snetterton next for the British Superstock, any questions for my next video please let me know!
James is a classy guy, great racing James this year was epic, glad the boys are finally getting the recognition you deserve
Thank you
Brilliant insight - I think you've given the best description of the two class of bikes I've seen
Many thanks!
@@jameshillierracing Much thanks James! (Greetings from Canada)
Found this after watching your 2024 kick off. This is great to understand the differences and what is done to manage the laps. 😎👍
What a fascinating incite. These guys never stop during race and practice time, hats off to all of you. James is a class act.
One of your best videos yet James: excellent detail and insight, with no pause or break the whole way through. Like the mind of an engineer, translated to standard English for us normal folk!! Top job man, fair play!!
Thanks for the feedback! Trying to think of interesting content all the time as it’s enjoyable to make and interesting comments 👍🏻
@@jameshillierracing Improving every time - takes a while to find your groove, but you're nailing it, and items like this come across far more natural, when it's clear it's something you enjoy. We need to get you over here to Mondello (Ireland!) some day (I'm one of the track instructors here - too old to race any more!! Haha!!), as Jack Kennedy would be a regular guest instructor, being local. But we've had Jeremy McW here and a certain pre-fame Hicky here, taking the michael out of the rest of us saps trying to keep up with him, as he just practices drifting for a laugh! Glen Irwin has even taken my own Panigale around, giving a couple of clicks to the suspension as we were similar weight (made no difference to me.... I was still sh1t!! 🤣). Anyway, keep it up my man, always a good watch. 👍
@@GarryMcGovern Thanks!
I can't beleive this dude was about to race the TT....as chill as he was. Thanks for showing us your stuff man.
Hilliers a proper legend.
Love it when he professionally explains the coke can exhaust. When I talk about my bike I always get Hyper 😂
Awesome thank you James 👍🏻
Thanks James! Great insight and fun to hear it from the Pro.
Fascinating deep description of it all…suspension appreciate it. I’m not a road racer on bikes so it helps me understand… I have go kart and dirt bike experience….thanks love the videos. I’d so love to ride one to the limit but almost 58 now so kinda late in life for it all 😂
Excellent explanation of the two bikes and what makes them different. Met James at this year's TT - he was selling his hot sauce after the last race - and he seemed a lovely guy - happily posed for a photo and signed my lid. He had a great TT and posted some good times. And then went home safely to his wife and children.
Insanely gorgeous bike!!
Really great video, great to know about all the smaller details on each bike. TT24 here we come! Good luck James!
Subscribed. Thank you!
Enjoy listening to james…please make more thanks
Planning more very soon
Great video James and great to get a insight to the difference in the bikes. Top job fella.
Thanks 👍
Great video! Iove the bike content especially. I'm in the process of modifying my R1M ('16) for canyon/track riding so I love hearing your thoughts and the details of what you're running. Keep up the great work and we'll see you next time.
Just awesome. Love those detailed videos❤❤
Glad you like them!
Great video love vids like this explaining alot
More to come!
Nice video James 👍🏿 great to see the bikes and what you are doing
That was fantastic!! Really interesting and informative thanks James
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video with interesting insights. Thanks a lot!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid James. Thanks. Best of luck for the rest of the year.
Thanks
Excellent James.
Nice . Thanks James . Very in depth and well explained 👍🏻
What a cool insight on what you guys are working on to get the bikes set up 🔥🔥
Brilliant James 👍🏻 It was a pleasure to watch and hear you on that beautiful stocker in the first Superstock race ✊🏼🍾🏁 and on the Supertwin.
Great insight James, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done matey. Great insights into how much thought and dedication goes into the development of these awesome machines. Love it thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing James! bikes look and sound so good! pleasure to have been on various parts of the course and start line seeing you prepare for battle & rinse these very high end machines! problem is your going so fast, scary thinking that back brake is for that use ! i tip my hat off to you as always ! thanks for the pictures and what you do ! Very professional James Hillier 🏍️🇮🇲🏁
Great video, thanks
What's your thoughts on Peter Hickman taking the course record to 136.358 on a Superstock spec machine considering the Superbike would be looked at as superior, massive thanks to you all for an outstanding 2023TT.
He was miles ahead, didn’t need to push the super bike, he wanted to bring home the win.
He hit all his markers and no back markers, everything fell into place for Hicky.
The difference between the two is not much now too over the TT Mountain Course.
Brilliant video as usual and content, you explain everything really well and it's easy to take in. I watched you through K Tree section a few times this TT and your line is superb for taking videos on my phone. The stock bike sounds superb as well. 🏍️👍
Thank you
Great insight,thanks James,top man.
Oh well, i ended up watching it all. Very comprehensive run down of the bits and pieces needed to make the bike comply with regulations and suit the rider. Thank you James!
Fantastic video, I was waiting since for this patiently since you spoke about a thumb break, Remember the question from me? I miss the rear break pedal in your video. Now I could see it on the left hand side. Thanks for this awesome video, we all appreciate that you spend some time with your fans this way.
No problem
Brilliant video. I’ve been following the TT closely for years but still learned a lot watching this thanks James 👊
Glad it was helpful!
Big fan of yours James. Great insight into the bikes. Thanks!
No Problem
Great explanations, very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Super explanation, by a superb gentleman.
Pretty interesting, cheers 4 sharing sir.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great detail and very articulate. Good luck , hope you have a fantastic time.
Thank you.
Great video, superb tech insight into the bikes.. explained very well
Much appreciated!
Superb James. Thank you mate 👍
Very welcome
Hey James, fab insight into the differences between the 2 big bikes. I like you calm voice and attitude. Was great watching you burst onto the scene a few years back. Respect for what you do James ❤️💯
Much appreciated!
This is brilliant. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting James, thanks for posting. Well done on a solid TT too.
Glad you enjoyed it
I learned so much from James. What a bad ass.
Fantastic info,thks.
No problem!
Well.....from what I can understand....riding a superbike on the TT course, is as good as it gets to fly an F 16 in a hostile environment!!! And that is so awesome....I am in awe!!! The precision over the calculations of the decision making process...during the course of actions, is just staggering!!! Riding a motorcycle is no slouch!!! A rider must be on top of its game, like an aircraft fighter pilot!!! In a hostile environment... After all...what is life if you havent pushed your mind and body to the limit and everything in between???
Thanks James really appreciate that. 12 L per lap is insane consumption, it really highlights how much you are at 100 % throttle.
And I use every drop! I ran out on the return road at the end of the Senior 😝
@@jameshillierracingI have always wondered if the decreasing fuel load is noticeable? and the tires....😮 from riders to the bikes to the crews, its all amazing and a rush just to watch. Hats off to all of you!
What timing! Jon Boy is my nextdoor neighbour and just last night I was quizzing him on the differences between the two bikes.
Haha! Maybe I do a video with JonBoy next time too :)
@@jameshillierracing - He needs to be front of camera! 👍
What an expert explanation! Amazing very didactic also.
Yeah great vid ✌️❤️🏍️
Thanks 👍
I'm suprised you run Road Shift with those big boots! In the tuck, I can't make my ankle work right to upshift, so I run GP/Race Shift. Then when I situp for braking/corners, my foot somehow naturally finds its way under the shifter to pull up to downshift. Its nice that we have the option these days, I love the front brake adjuster!
Great Video
Great video comparison James 👍. Two quick questions - You mention the very obvious temperature warning lights, but what do you do if they come on? Is it a case of pull over and stop, or ease off a bit or something else? Secondly, the suspension manufacturer you're using this year is one I've never heard of. Is it a new company or one that's just not known outside of the race paddock?
Great guy
By the way, James finished 4th and 6th in the Superbike and senior race respectfully. He also finished in the top 7 every race but one race were he dnf. He set the fastest ever lap on a Yamaha as well. He had a really great year.
Awesome vid!
Thanks!
Excellent James. Why are there holes drilled at the bottom of your screens?
It’s to allow air in behind screen and kind of balances to air behind the bubble, reducing the buffering 👍🏻
very interesting vid thanks for that
Glad you enjoyed it
Really interesting James well explained many thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello James , thanks for the video , great insight 😎,
A question for you or your mechanics, do you use gaskets on the factory line exhaust also used in wsbk?
The flanges are shaped like the exhaust port so seems weird to use ori gaskets for this, hope you guys could answer this question, thx in advance, keep up the good work ✊️
Love the livery….JOHN PLAYER SPECIAL😍😍😍😍😍
Hi shouts from New Zealand. I'm 7.
I like the vape advertising, looks cool. I'll try it. Thanks mr ambassador.
Where did you guys get the front fork coating? The gold looks awesome
Good video and great racer 👌
Thanks! 👍
Great explanation for people that might be new to the sport 👍
Thank you
Cheers!
James is an extraordinary racer who has every chance of winning a senior TT, the day Will come for him im sure!!!
Really interesting video james explaining all the tech about the bikes and the rear thumb brake
subbed now for future vids
Thanks!
Love this, not just saying what parts you are running but explaining the reason why you use them
How do you accelerate hard in 2nd, need to be short shifted to 3rd or can you go full throttle thoughtout with just the thumb brake
2nd nearly always requires a short shift as. Always alot of thumb brake.
Hi james excellent video as always on you channel. Can you give so more information on what the filler cap holder is called and where you get them from would be very hand for our pitstops at the manx gp this year.
Thanks. They are home made from seat foam 👍🏼
Always in the hunt, smart guy, I just love James pulling hard for him this year! "If I'm being a wimp"...yeah, NOBODY could call you a wimp I'm pretty sure my friend!
What are the internal engine differences between the two engines in each and what approximate power are they producing at the rear wheel as a result?
thanks James hopefully better results next year when i come back to the island ,them stock bikes look slow with no wheels involved but really to me it seems those big bang yams are more as with the dukes track focused , jimmy my old china you need a normal il4 mate God bless
Question: Seeing as the laprecord is now held by a superstock, they are obviously very close. Would you consider it a fair statement, that until now the only major difference was the different tyres?
Also, do you know why slicks were allowed on stockers this year. It seems to blur the lines between the two classes almost to redundancy?
Cheers!
Hi James, great vid. What do the coloured buttons set for on the race bike. There are a lot.
I will do a video at Snetterton, thanks for the question.
Great video
Thanks!
So much goes into setting up a machine for racing, especially when consequences are extreme.......suspension is a fickle lady......getting it right isn't always common sense like you would think.....each part leaks into others so can be difficult to decipher (compression bleeds into rebound and vice versa)
Beautiful bikes and well done James!
Top shelf lad.
James you are awsome.. me and my girlfriend both sponsored you for the dakar last year ...we hope you decide to do it again ❤
Thank you. Still not decided yet.
What's the OEM master cylinder like on the superstock bike? I often hear it causes issues
Great video why do u have a holder forvthe fuel cap on the stocker but not the superbike
Ah it was swapped over between the bikes for each race.
Informative vid, Surprising you don’t even have a rear brake foot lever as well as the thumb brake lever and also the road shift pattern I found interesting
We don’t use the foot brake with the thumb brake fitted, so more room 🙂
Great video. How does the seat padding fair out, are there different thickness for different preferences, curious.
Rd a compromise between keeping weight low. And then added comfort of more cushion and also reducing bend on knees as races are longer and spend a lot more time tucked up than on short circuits.
@@jameshillierracing thanks for reply James.
Thanks for the insight James, nice to seriously appreciate the details and thought process behind running a bike of this caliber🙌🏻 8:47 what is the small box attached to the frame has “TT SBk James” written on it?
Looks like a lap timer and/or data system. Might be the GPS tracker I think all bikes had to have at the TT. The Obsession Engineering channel mentioned something on one of their TT vids that looked similar.
Yes this is the transponder for time keepers. To record sectors / laps and speed traps.
Very interesting overview! I club race a new R1 this year and have a similar setup to your stock but different suspension. Do you also use Bitubo for short circuit?
Yes, the OMG team all use these.
@@jameshillierracing Thank you. Not many people using Bitubo in the States but I will give Bitubo a try.
I have got on with it very well. 👍🏼
Another great video. Does anyone sell the taller IOM windscreen? I would love to get one on my R6. Google shows only the double bubble types that raise the screen about an inch not the 5-8 inch rise on the IOM screens. Business idea?
Great insight james. What part of the course is your favourite and which bike do u prefer to ride.
I generally prefer superbike tbh. Sometimes the harder to set up with more settings available but good to ride when you having working well. And section of track changes each year. I like all of it but particularly enjoy the 11th milestone at end of cronk y voddy.
That was good. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Why not a one way clicker for the front brake pad adjuster?
It's refreshing to hear that pros also use road shift. I tried GP shift many times and I just ride much quicker on track on street shift.
Fantastisk informativ video for some 1 like myself Who is interested in the technical side of rating, more of there, of when you have time & energi ride safe👍
Here are a few questions but I have many more…..Wot exactly do you do to the superbike motor and electronics to get that extra 20bhp?? How do you get such a massive weight reduction?? Do you change major components of the motor? How come the lap record is now held by a super stock bike with an entirely stock motor, chassis etc? Is the superbike too much for the rough surface of the roads or wot?? I can’t imagine wot the superbike must be like . Can I have a go??
Late to this video. Great explanation of the two classes. Two Qs: what is the reason you don't use rear brake except to control wheelies? Is there any prospect that the extra pit time to change tyre in the stock class would pay off in improved lap time?
I have just never really used back brake. But actually use rear more when riding on the open road. The time gained over 1 lap with fresh tyre would not be worth the loss in pits. Stock race used to be 4 laps and most did then change to fresh tyre for the remaining 2 laps
Excellent ! That was really informative.
If the bikes are now all tracked by the race officials, and thus in real time the position is known as compared to other bikes, surely an excellent safety feature would be to have a "blue" light on the dash, indicating a much faster bike is very close behind. Radar could be useful for working this out too.
i.e. Slower bikes should really let through the much faster bikes. Like the blue flags in F1 indicate when a driver is being lapped.
Hopefully such a "blue you're being overtaken indicator" would add to safety. At then end of a six lap senior TT, the top guys are often catching up with some quite slow bikes.
I agree a blue light may work but then also think it may cause problems. If the rider in front sees light and pulls left to let rider behind pass. The rider behind may have already commit to pass on left and cause issue. I think as it is works fine. It’s not like short circuit where you may try to keep. Rider behind you. Generally if I rider catches you it’s your benefit to let them past and drag you along. Nothing to gain from holding them up and keeping behind.
@@jameshillierracing
A left and a right blue LED ? with radar sensing what side the rider is behind ?
Please note, I've never raced bikes, I just ride slowly on the road well within my and the bikes limits ! (that's usually my limits and not the bikes !)
