    Sorry, you do not buy a bike to leave in its crate. You buy it to ride it, to enjoy it. People who buy bikes (and cars) as an investment, I hate them with a passion.

      The thing is, a lot of those people would probably like to drive the cars but most of the cars that are actually investments, its a huge liability to drive it on a public road. If you crash or it’s badly damaged there’s a huge chance that you won’t get a replacement on a limited edition vehicle.

      That'd be the good old Yamaha R3 or MT03. Cheap, light, fun, easy to ride, well built, and fuel mileage that'd bring smile on your face.

      Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 400(what i own and love), honda CBR 300R/500R, or Suzuki SV 650. Of course you can add in the slightly bigger more expensive bikes like the R7 or the Ninja 650, but you could also go smaller like the Honda Grom, or the Kawasaki Ninja 250R.

    I work for a triumph dealership, the most expensive motorcycle we produced that I’m aware of was the rocket 3 TFC (Triumph Factory Custom) they featured a lot of carbon fibre bodywork saving over 100 pounds of weight, 15 more bhp and 3ft pounds of torque over the standard rocket 3 r. And a price point of £25000 or a tad over $30000. They were extremely limited, only 250 built if I remember correctly and only available to the uk market. They sold out in minutes even before photos were released.

      I wanted the Daytona 765 moto2. Had my shot. The dealer couldn’t sell one and had a great price on it. Then they got popular all of a sudden and the dealer got a premium on it.

      All TFC were out of 750 Bobber, Thruxton, and Rocket 3 and all available in several countries because they allocated a specific amount to each country

    The Cavalcade at $11k was the most expensive offering from Suzuki during the mid 80's and when adjusted for inflation I believe that makes it the winner

      Had the occasion to drive around with it for a few tousand miles... Pure luxe... But my own bike was a cb750c... I prefered thad one, even the fact that I had no car and I had to drive each day, summer and winter, 20miles to my job!

    My dream bike from this is the Desmosedici. In 2008, I toured the Museum and Factory when they were being built. I saw seven of them "fresh" off the "line". They were all assembled in the Race Dept. Off limits to the public.

    The advice to buy a bike and keep it in the crate needs a lot of thought about how your going to store it.
    Bikes and Beards have bought a couple of crated bikes recently and found that they can come with problems if not stored correctly.

      Doesn't really matter. People are gonna buy them sight unseen and even non-operational if they're valuable enough. You see it all the time with trucks and cars that have below double digit miles that will likely need a new engine because they've sat for decades.

    The r7 is the one for me. I wanted one as a youth and settled for a yzf750r painted up as a Haga race rep. Closest I ever got and I miss that bike more than any other I've owned.

    I bought a Ducati 1098R homologation special (1199cc actually for those not familiar) and my mate bought a Desmosedici. Mine wasn't without problems (e.g. catching on fire TWICE) but at least I got to ride it much of the time, but my mate spent most of his time waiting on engine rebuilds or complete new replacement engines, and on the rare occasions it was running he couldn't go more than a few km without being pulled over by the cops. Happy days... 😏

    The Triumph Rocket 3 is just such a cool bike imo. My uncle used to have one and I think it's just such a unique bike with it's massive engine. Love to see it.

    Most expensive Triumph was the Super III. They made 805 from 1994 to 1996, with engine work from Cosworth and carbon fiber bodywork, their MSRP was as I recall ~$22000 USD, or ~$44000 USD today after inflation.

      Yessir! I’ve owned all Suzuki except for an 01 CBR929RR. Now I’m more into distance riding instead of screaming around town on sport bikes and have a 2015 V-Strom 1000. Never an issue with any suzi I’ve owned.

    It'd be the Yamaha R7 for me. I like the exclusivity and that carbon fibre bodywork...and I love the understated paintjob. Such a rare, purpose built bike...with a paintjob that would look right at home on the R1 or R6 of the day.

The 1999-2000 Yamaha YZF-R7 was a rare and expensive homologation special...that was built to meet the rules of the World Superbike series. At the time, it cost $70000 for an average joe to buy. One of its most successful pilots was the Japanese rider, Noriyuki Haga. Which is why it's a disappointment that Yamaha has given that famous name to a budget sports bike.

      ⁠@@davew8841maybe confusing the year but not the bike. Look up an R7 and the specs state its a 2 cylinder like Kawasakis ninja z series. I was surprised. An R7 with a 2 cylinder with that low horsepower. Same with ninjas. The 4 cyl zx series have more horsepower than the 2 cyl z series even despite the z having more displacement. Yet the manufacturers have problems passing emissions with bikes that have the greater displacement? Maybe the greater horsepower like 1971 in the US coincidentally after 1970 vehicles having the most horsepower historically like the LS6 Chevelle with 450 horsepower.

      I generally buy Suzuki. For whatever reason that’s the way it’s worked out. But I’m really impressed by what Kawasaki is doing. The H2 and the H2R seem like a ton of fun. But it doesn’t stop there for Kawasaki. The Z H2, the Z7 Hybrid, the ZX-10R, ZX-14R, the Ninja 7 Hybrid, the W800, Z900RS, etc and I’m just pointing out the unique models. I also like that they offer Ninja’s in the classic green/blue scheme. Those are beautiful. Kawasaki’s lineup is much more interesting than the other 3 Japanese manufacturers by a fair amount. If I were to buy a Kawasaki right now, I’d really have a hard time deciding which model I’d want. Even their motocross offerings are numerous. They make a KX112. That’s crazy in 2024 when good 100-class dirt bikes are rare. Very impressive.

    I don't know your channel well, I just subscribed, but you asked for ideas to continue this series about manufacturers, and it popped in my mind that you may want to make a series about "weird" special purpose motorcycles by well known or even prestigious brand.
    For instance, when I was a kid in Italy, Moto Guzzi made a special 500cc bike for the Italian police called "Falcone". They were what we would call today a Dual purpose, 1 cylinder bikes with a distinctive "thumped" sound.
    Back in the 70s, we built and raced our own homebuilt 50cc or 125cc motocross bikes we would race at local improvised empty lots around Rome. The trick was to drive these noisy, tricked out motoX bikes to and from the "track" trying to avoid the cops riding "Falcones".
    They first tried to nab us with their highway model, the Moto Guzzi road version (750cc or more, my memory fails) but then they smarter up and tried to "evict us" using their smaller dual purpose bike, which was essentially a Motard. Half "scrambler" half road thumper.
    They never caught us because their thumpers "thumped" so loud we could hear them arrive with plenty of warning, even over our 2 strokes hot rods.
    I bet the cops could follow us by smell, as each of our bikes left a strong aroma of Castrol 2 stroke race oil.
    Good times.
    In any case, in Italy we had all sorts of weird 2 wheel contraptions that would make for an interesting video. For instance, did you know that people, not just kids, raced Vespa and Lambretta for real?
    Let me tell you, you haven't lived until you have seen a Vespa race, sparks and all. Some racing Vespa and Lambretta had little bodywork left because most of it was scraped away on the turns.
    I knew kids with tricked out Vespa Primavera (125cc) that could smoke Porsches in their spare time, at least for a while.
    I knew a guy that could wheelie a Vespa halfway through Rome, traffic included. Not to mention the sheer variety of scooters and motorcycles.
    My father graduated from his Gilera 125cc to a Honda CB 350, red, of course, that he then traded in for a Gold (what else) 750cc four.Its hard to explain to a modern audience the impact those bikes had on us. They were something completely different and new. It would be like having a bike that could fly today, they were that revolutionary.
    My father and I joined my uncle, we on the Honda, him riding a Ducati 900 SS, for weekend escurtions to the mountains around Rome and we were usually joined by a plethora of other bikes of the era.
    What days!
    But yes, a lot of famous brands had a bunch of weird models for specific applications. Brands like Gilera, Ducati, Benelli, Zundapp, you name it. Of course, there were a lot of British bikes as well.

    Having owned and ridden Triumphs, such as the 500cc Daytona and several Bonneville 650's and one 750, then moved on to several Harley FLH's, the bike I would own now (if I could afford it) would be the Harley trike. Beautiful machine made for cruising down the highway. At my current age, this would be it for me!
    ps: I'm pretty partial to the new Honda Goldwings, too, having owned several of those back in the day. :)

    Ive got 2 MV Agusta"s. The F4S and the F4 Senna. Wonderful machines but I'm a little salty MV Is 85% Russian owned now. Castiglioni's kid really blew it. I'm starting to lean more Ducati due to this MV ownership issue. Got a 998 Byaliss, 996S, 748R and a V4S. Soon I'm a 916 away from most of what Tamburini designed, the best bike designer in history, in my opinion ;)

    Early 2000s I remember seeing MV Augusta in a magazine and fallen in love with it immediately. That beautiful full fairing two-tone red silver, single swingarm, and the four pipes under the seat. I remember looking up the price and it was 38k and thinking I guess I'm going to keep my GSXR 1100.

    I loved my 1992 Honda CBR900RR (bought brand new) it was so good. Traded it in on a new 919 back in 96. So sad (in a way) to have sold both now. However have now a 2010 GL1800 Goldwing and it is excellent!.

    I have a 2012 Mv Agusta F4R. It is perfect. It has almost 10000 miles on it and it gets ridden year round. I will never lock a beast in a cage. I let it eat.

    It's quite borderline, but right on the topic for this video. There is the Suter brand (Swiss constructor Moto2 winner 2010-2011-2012) who released a limited edition track-only bike which is quite bonkers (500 2-stroke in 2015, 195hp for 127kg/280lbs), and around 140k$. They are still around too.

    In 2001 Benelli entered WSB with their Tornado, and released 150 homologation version Benelli Tornado 900 Tre Limited Edition. They sold for £27,500 ($35,250) with a race kit. I’ve owned mine since 2009, race engine with magnesium cases, Marchesini forged wheels, Ohlins gold series, Brembo and carbon bodywork. Adrian Morton designed with rad under the seat. Note: adjusted for inflation to £49,135 ($63,000).

    Correct me if I'm wrong, it seems you didn't mention the Italian motorcycle company Bimota?
    In October 2019 Kawasaki purchased 49% of that company. So as far as I know they are still relevant and expensive!
    Over the years Ducati and BMW have also had their hands involved with some of Bimota productions?

    The Harley is not a good value compared to $50k sport bikes? I guess a suburban is not a good value compared to a Camero ss or mustang GT. You can't compare them. A 50k Harley trike with all the bells and whistles is a cross country dream machine that will haul you, your wife, and your luggage while you listen is XM radio, talk with each other using built-in comms, and have nice warm hands and butt because of the heated seats and and grips. Not saying it's a good bike or a bad bike but it cannot do the job of some GP clone but the clone can't cruise like a HD either.

    When Triumph originally introduced the Rocket 3, they started with a limited edition bike called the Rocket 3 TFC, with extra horsepower and a bunch of carbon fiber to lighten the bike substantially. I believe it started around $29K.

      Harley has done something similar to the Indian FTR with the XR 1200. However, in spite of the verbal demand, it just has not materialized into sales dollars, they sell a ton of em in Europe, the American rider does not replace mouth with money. The XR 1200 was, like the FTR, bigger, wider and pricier than the errand bike for which we hoped.

    I work at the biggest Harley dealership in Australia and ai just want to say it’s hard to price a Harley as stock standard because I sell parts and upgrades specifically and no one has ever rode away on newly purchased stock bike from us, it just doesn’t happen. On the high end you could spend $120k aud fully decking out your bike.

    Yeah, love the idea of an FTR750 for the street. When I heard Indian was coming out with a street version of their flat tracker I was super excited. When I found out it was going to be a 1200 I got deflated and lost interest. BTW when I bought my Ducati 750ss back in 1993 there was an 888 and a Super Mono in the showroom. I LOVED that Super Mono, but the price.....Should have bought one knowing what it would have been worth years later!

      Why? The 1200 is an amazing engine. 750 was a class restriction that doesn’t exist anymore. Same reason the Harley xr750 was “replaced” by thr xr1200. Also why, for a long time, the only “middleweight” sport bike was a Suzuki 750.

    I bought a 1994 yamaha R7 in 2002 first year model . one of the best and fastest motorcycles i have ever rode. the bike is in excelent condition to this day stored at a friends house,i think its time to dig it out. ps. i ride 2001 R1 champions edition now. great show.

    Enjoy your stuff but the most expensive or fastest or highest horsepower …. though interesting barely make it on my most interesting Richter Scale mover and shaker and I I am referring to vibrations.
    How about the highest volume of sales per model per manufacturer and then a volume listing of all manufacturers. This should include major manufacturers like BSA who once was the Walmart of motorcycle makers in the world. Just a thought.

    I might be an odd ball, but coming from India, I have been exposed to the Royal Enfield Brand a lot more, and even though they make dog-slow motorcycles (and yeah, I do ride an RE that is owned by my dad), I would personally choose the 120th Anniversary Royal Enfield, both the Interceptor and the Continental look absolutely stunning in the black chrome.

    18:38 That is BS, its not horsepower, its weight and rpms that makes up a motogp what it is and that aprillia is a heavy weight at 208 kg wet and does not rev nearly as high, motogp bikes are 157 kg, closest you get to it is the 160 kg rc213v-s with power kit which also revs as much as a motogp bike

    Holy crap…$184k for a production bike?! I thought I was on the insane train buying my 2023 Fireblade from Honda. I’ve loved all 3 CBRs I’ve owned and this one takes the cake. Knowing it’s practically an “entry level” price for Honda makes me feel so much more rational now. Thanks guys.

    My dreambike was not necessarily the most expensive nor it was limited production or anything. It's just unsustainable and nigh impossible to maintain its top form today.
    It was the NSR 250 MC21.

      Not just the i2 250s, even the old 125 Hornet now has risen in price. If we could even find one in good condition. So many of them are damaged in some ways.
      Tbf, I, too, wrecked my 1992 NSR150R twice and the thing nearly end my life in my teenage years more times than I could remember. No ABS, no assist, raw and what is basically unlimited rpm range, as long as you got the guts and your engine could take. Imagine SEA roads with those things. Once, I was hit by a goat while doing 120km/h, no joke. Broke my left clavicula bones.
      Broke both of my ankles due to brakes locking while going downhill too.
      90s 2 strokes were wild. In Asian roads, your live expectancy probably around 30minutes if riding a 250 ones as it supposed to be in those days today.
      If want to go, I want to go while riding one of those 250s.

But let me remind you that when they were new, back in those days, my NSR150R was priced at 7million in my local currency. If we account for inflation, it ends up north 90 million in today's money. In USD, that'd be about 8k. About the same money you'd need to burn to get base version of ZX25R today. And that's just for the 150cc. I shudder the thought of what kind of rich and crazy ppl in 90s that bought a 250cc 2strokes. Oh, and these engines were built to last, btw. It was built at different times where a sport faired bikes means something special. They never expected these would sell in large quantities. I mean, just look at the frames! Aluminum everything? JC... even the swing arms? Who still does that at 8k? Certainly not Kawi since the ZX25R uses steel in trellis manner. Then again, so does CBR250RR and R3.
      Japanese manufacturers drop their balls in modern market. Opting for sales volumes instead of making a statement like they used to.

    One problem with Harley pricing is that HD doesn’t sell complete bikes, they only sell project bikes. If you own one you know exactly what I’m talking about, and when that was explained to me I thought it was absurd too, but it’s not. Essentially every Harley owner will customize their bike - some using exclusively HD parts and keeping the warranty too. In fact the easiest way to tell if a new-ish looking bike is still under warranty is that it’ll be stock, because once it’s out of warranty there’s no reason not to swap out parts.
    I’ll use my bike as an example of what sort of things are pretty typical. I started with a 2009 Ultra Classic Electraglide (that means it has the classic batwing fairing, lower fairing, 3-piece luggage, and external chrome covered bars to tie more down onto it).
    While it was still under extended warranty (until about 2015):
    1) replaced wind deflector with a taller one by Long Ride Shields
    2) added fork wind deflector
    Circa 2015-current
    3) added Dynojet Powervision and tuned for stock (just assume this step occurs every time I change something going forward)
    4) replaced air filter and box with a high ratio K&N unit
    5) replaced stock slip-on mufflers with 4 inch straight pass through mufflers
    6) ported heads
    7) increased displacement to 110ci (new pistons and lifters too)
    8) replaced stock cams with Woods 777
    9) replaced stock oil pump with Feuling OE+
    10) replaced clutch with an AIM variable pressure clutch
    11) replaced compensator with Darkhorse Cush-drive unit
    12) ceramic coated the exhaust header
    Probably a bunch of other things I’ve forgotten. Here’s the thing though: each of these upgrades are available (in general) from Harley on a new bike with the factory warranty - sure I can put Woods cams in, but there are other cams are are pretty good from HD I could have instead on a “new” bike. And that’s because HD doesn’t sell complete motorcycles, they sell project bikes, and then you make them yours.
    And in case you’re wondering why I didn’t do an engine swap given what else I’ve changed: I live in Arizona and the intercooler is really important for summer riding after I add a turbo, and Trask doesn’t make intercoolers for the M8 engine yet. Yes, I could have gone with just water/methanol injection, but that’s one more thing that could run out and if you’re tuned for W/M and aren’t running it you’ll cook off your engine, at least in AZ heat.

    Good luck with the street version of the Indian flat tracker. I first started my interest in motorcycles (as so many did) in the very late 60s, and even then people were pleading for a street legal high performance version of the Harley flat tracker. Perhaps this was just a Harley quirk, a result of the AMF debacle, or that they made so much money for so long just as they were, but it just never happened.

    The Harley CVO is worth the money IF you are planning to put down the miles and want the luxuries. The top of the line Indians, Goldwings and Harleys are meant to be ridden for hours on end. Most of the people that buy these luxury touring bikes rack up the miles. I personally think Harleys are over priced, but for buyers that isn't the point. I own a Harley. Could I have gotten a little more for a little less? Yes, but it wouldn't be a Harley. Harley has 2 things going for it. They have great fit, finish and paint and high resale value. They do make a good bike for a T-shirt company

    For me is the Desmocedici. I have riden the number 128 bike on track. Amazing and scary at the same time. With the racing termignogni exhaust it makes 203 hp at the wheel. Since it’s a motogp bike with lights it has 16.5 inches wheels which makes it very expensive on tires. The absence of traction control makes it even more exciting.

    I've had a lot of great bikes but never went without a Harley Davidson. I rode my Panigale from SF to Phoenix and left it there and flew back, I was in pain. I ride Harley's all the time across the country and even to Mexico and Canada. The Dark Horse and FTR's have been on my list.

    Tough call. Probably the Aprilia RSV4. The Triumph Rocket 3 would be a blast to ride. The H2 too. Although, lately I’ve been keeping my eye out for a Suzuki B King which has seriously held its value. Clean used B Kings are selling like they’re new.

    Probably deserves a sidebar mention of most expensive "to produce" would be the Honda Rune. Embarking on this program would result in people being sacked in any other company. Bike cost double or triple it's selling cost back in the day. Not racey like most of these but the RUNE is LEGEND. Classic Honda building something NO other manufacturer could.

    Like the video. I rode a HP4 around Silverstone . I hired one for a track day with Neil Hodgson and Niall McKenzie. Neither of them turned up. Happily though Steve Plater & James Whitham turned up. That bike was way to much for me to ride ( only just bought my first thou ). The lads from BSB were there on that Monday doing their set ups for the coming weekend. They all left me for dead. Had a fantastic day though .🤣🤣👍

    I own and race the KTM RC8C, a Kramer GP2R (the mechanical equivalent to the RC8C) is not a fraction of the price. It’s about $38,000 which is only a few thousand less. The RC8C has much better looking bodywork, better looking exhaust, and few small differences like a different steering damper - they are cosmetic differences really. But to me the small price difference is well worth it, especially if you’re one of the first ones to get it and can do the track experience with Dani Pedrosa at Jerez, which is a once in a lifetime sort of thing for me - worth every penny.
    I also have a 2022 Duke 890R and I can tell you that the RC8C has very little to do with the Duke aside from the motor. An example from the automotive world would be how Lotus use Toyota motors. It’s equivalent to that. The RC8C chassis is incredible, my warmup laptime on the RC is 5-6 seconds faster than my fast laptimes on the Duke, it’s incomparable.
    Just my 2 cents from an actual owner and racer of the RC8C.

There is a lot of confusion around the Kramer/RC8C because it shares the same motor as the Duke…so I went and got the Duke expecting it to be closeish…not even close. It’s kind of how a Moto2 Grand Prix racebike uses a Triumph 765 motor (same as a Street triple or Daytona) and previously a Honda CBR600 motor - the motor is actually the least interesting thing about racebikes, it’s all about the chassis/suspension and how it brings it together to go fast on track.

      @@bartmotorcycle the brutal truth was KTM went big on the RC8R program and it was a commercial flop and not competitive in racing, so they made up some lame excuses and canned the program. One of the engineers left and founded Kramer - he wanted to build racebikes and KTM got out of it.
      Fast forward a decade and KTM partnered with that same engineer/Kramer and the RC8C has been a huge success, 300 units sold in a few minutes (100 in the first run last year and another 200 this summer). Additionally there have been some spy shots of a sportbike with rumors of a 990 twin engine…so fingers crossed we’ll see massed produce KTM sportbike that can challenge the Panigale V2!

    Almost missed the BMW because there was no chapter marker LOL. On one hand, I think you're right about keeping one in a crate, but on the other hand, prices have really dropped since the bike was released and it's such a great bike it deserves to be ridden. The big problem with the HP4 Race is that you can't ride it on the street. Yes, there are people who do ride it on the street, but I think that's stupid. There are no lights, no speedometer, and there are no fans, so if you stop too long at a stop light, it will overheat. (Leading to the amusing "TWAT HIGH" message!). The HP4 Race is absolutely brilliant on the track though. Powerful, nimble, phenomenal brakes, it almost rides itself. I absolutely trust the bike, it inspires confidence that I don't get on the wilder bikes. And my wife rides one!
    Now, if you're looking for something like the HP4 Race for the street, check out the 2015/2016 S1000RR. It's almost the same bike, just a bit less of everything, but trust me, you won't be able to tell on the street.

    Guys IF I'm wrong correct me. The best bang for the buck,, 2023 Ducati Panigale R with the Akropivic exhaust, MAP. and shell special oil. 240.5 Horse, INCREDIBLE. All for about $50,000 Including all dealer BS charges. I know I'm going too get the HATE response for saying,, IT'S not a generic in line 4 that all sound the same. I want something different that stands out. IF I would buy an inline 4, the cross plane YAMAHA is it. I run my 2 Ducaties, 2017 1299s and 2021 Street Fighter V4s all year, over 45,000 trouble free miles combined in less the 4 years. Street and several track days a year. I could NEVER buy a bike and not ride it.

      You are going to love it! I have a 2020 Rocket 3 R. Get the quick shifter it is really nice. Also a aftermarket exhaust makes the bike sound amazing. I have the Werkes on mine.
