    For us motorbike racing enthusiasts, there are two big names that dominate the scene: MotoGP and World Superbikes. While they might look similar if you're just flipping through channels, they're quite different once you get into the details. Let’s dive into these differences and really understand what sets these two apart.

    I raced AMA and WERA Superbike back in the late 1970s and early 1980s on American tracks.
    No repliracers then. You bought a street bike and turned it into a race bike. Used to be a company out in California, Racer's Supply, they hsd a lot of upgrade items.
    If you needed a steering stabilizer mount, you got some aluminum and made one. Same with rear sets and other things.
    Find a club, get trained and have fun.
    Do it on the street and get paralyzed or unalived.
    You WILL remember that first time, on the track, when you touch your knee slider down.😊

    MotoGp mirrors F1. The new aero technology is a perfect example. Im not a big fan of the new motogp bike look. But it's amazing how much technology is crammed into those bikes. As they said in this video, worth up to 3 million dollars. Thats pretty crazy.

    • @lonpfrb
      @lonpfrb 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The cost reflects the manufacturers research and development effort and the design, build and test effort that they make. The MotoGP rules allow few evolutions of the bike so these must be thoroughly tested before these valuable limited evolutions are submitted for FIM evaluation before race use. So that is very different to racing a production bike.

    • @JayB2
      @JayB2 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@lonpfrb What stunned me the most was the sophistication of the electrics. An ECU can control the speed of rotation of each wheel independently, the throttle position, suspension paths, incline angles, etc. A Motogp bike is equipped with dozens of different sensors. To a casual observer that sounds like rocket science. I'm a long time F1 fan, & I'm still very impressed with MotoGP. And just after a few months of watching tons of the videos on TH-cam I'm hooked.

    'As a fan' I hope Carmelo reads this as a bit of a rant; I've bought a MotoGP video pass every year since timing passes were included in the price. I follow ASBK, BSB, and MotoAmerica on youtube whenever notices pops up. This year I bought a WSBK subscription and dropped the MotoGP. Top tier racing isn't about racing anymore. It's about who is linked to an F1 aero development team and who has the most innovative electrical engineers. This racing is as boring as a late era Bernie Ecclestone car race. Marquez has already told you you are losing the fan base because development dollars have superseded skill and cojones.We know you can afford to lose a few fans who don't agree with your business plan. Well done.
    Possible analogy ~ Most countries have saloon car racing. Here in Australia, we have V8 Supercars, in Germany they have DTM, the Brits have some front wheel drive buzz-boxes ~ anyway. Then you have Formula One.
    F1 is a prototype series of high end racing cars, intended for an elite world championship of drivers. It is more or less the highest level of four wheel competition. The Formula One world driver's champion is pretty widely recognised, as the best driver in the world. Nobody mass produces formula one cars.
    Touring cars are in some ways, purpose built racing cars that look like a road-going donor car, and to some extent, they're hotted up road-cars. Running a touring car team is not cheap, but it costs about 1/10th what running a competitive formula one team does.
    There is a very close analogy between MotoGP and Formula One, and between Touring Cars and SuperBikes.
    It is a widely held opinion the standard fo riders in WSBK is one step down from the standard in MotoGP ~ how true that is, it's a little hard to say. Having any kind of truly valid comparison, is almost impossible.
    Many drivers who have had a full & successful career in some other class, go to NASCAR to retire.
    Many MotoGP riders, drop down to WSBK when they're not good enough or wanted enough to stay in MotoGP.
    Remy Gardner got kick out of MotoGP and ended up in WSBK.
    Jack Miller is looking down the barrel of the same fate.
    If Mark Webber and Danial Ricciardo and Jack and Remi went to the same BBQ, I hope they didn't invite any loud-mouth journalists. That would show insufficient professionalism on a national basis. Anything that suggested a pattern of behaviour towards Australians, by RedBull, is obviously not professional.

    As an American I hate American sports, the way they have evolved over the years is embarrassing. Especially the NFL. I've always found the competition and excitement of MotoGP to be absolutely riveting. Each MotoGP race packs in more drama and excitement than an entire Nascar season. I'm not sure how I feel about the upcoming changes to the MotoGP bikes and rules but I look forward to seeing how the riders adapt. Marquez going to the factory Ducati team next year is going to add another level of thrilling races each track they visit.

    WSBK bikes are not really close to production bikes. They change almost everything and end up costing several times more than a production bike. As you mentioned, a WSBK bike costs 250-300k dollars. A production bike will cost around 30k dollars...

    • @lonpfrb
      @lonpfrb 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      However it is still production, not prototype racing. The race bike still has to appear like the production bike available for public sale, even limited edition homologation variants [V4R, R1M, CBR-1000RR-R SP, ZX-10RR] The research and development costs are sunk into the production variants with additional effort especially testing for the homologation race specials. However the race team doesn't get the factory engineers on site like MotoGP.
      Crew Chiefs, Suspensions Specialist, Data Logging and expert Mech Eng all add up to a significant cost allocated to each production race bike, along with a significant parts inventory and transport/facilities people too.
      Starting with a homologation production bike at $50k changing the exhaust, suspension and brakes for race parts then going testing pre-season is soon going to take $250k along with the crash damage.

      Agree. People say wsbk are production bike as if all you need to do is put on some light and stand thats it. Read to write on road.
      Lol. No
      They literally take apart the whole motorcycle. Rewire the whole system, change the engine part, make specific parts that's aren't available to public.
      They're not just tuned in bike. Remember WSBK also have direct factory support team too.

    • @gundamzerostrike
      @gundamzerostrike หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lonpfrb Nope. It's not just "exhaust, suspension and brakes" that change. Pretty much everything aside from the chassi, including all the electronics, most of the engine parts and components mades specifically to fit each driver's style. 99% of the bike is different. Also, all the changes are made via research and testing by the factories and teams, so it's not just a case of them going to stores and buying different parts like a regular person would. If they were just buying parts available to the public, they wouldn't end up with a bike that costs 8x more.

      @zulucrotchrocket4769 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Factory has more resources. More, and usually the best engineers behind the scenes. Larger budgets. They get new updates, usually sooner, primarily in aerodynamics. In GP, the satellite teams have the same equipment, except some teams get last year models. Ex. Pramac gets this years bikes, and challenged for the championship last year (2nd in rider championship). Vr46 has last years models, but came in third last year in rider championship. In my opinion, this makes it really great to watch. It hasn’t always been like this in the past satellite teams rarely won, and had inferior equipment (especially when they had multiple tire manufacturers). This trend has bled over to worldsbk for most teams. The budgets have bigger gaps in super bike teams primarily behind the scenes. (Engineers, and talent) Best pilots in worldsbk end up on factory teams. In Motogp 10-12 different riders could end up on the podium. Of course there are outliers, especially in worldsbk. (Especially if they are on a Ducati). Ex. Iannone, and Petrucci, both of which are ex MotoGP.) (Ducati is dominating in both categories the last couple of years)

    I have found that some heavier bikes, handle really well . Some light bikes, can feel “skittish” in corners. And can give very “vague” “feedback” So the slightly heavier WSB machines, can make up time, by being easier to ride. In my view? Machines can be too lightweight, and have too much power, for the frame to handle?
