    I have a 2015 mirage i bought brand new, im at 106,000 miles with no issues. Just have to keep up with maintenance and this bad boy can be a great daily driver. I still get 40MPG just going around town. Also not to bad in the snow. Just have your expectations in the right spot. CVT is pretty bad tho i will say, if i could go back id get the manual.

      That's great to hear at 106,000 you have had no issues.I own a 2020 mirage 5 speed and man I love my car.Cvt are to rubber bandie sounding for my liking and absorb to much horsepower from the already little 78 hp engine.Be sure to use genuine Mitsubishi auto trans fluid in your CVT.Dont try to save a few bucks and get multi-vehicle CVT trans oil.Change every 30,000.Remember it's cheaper to change the oil than to buy a REBUILT trans you won't be happy with.Thanks,Aaron

    I bought a 2020 5-speed in December 2020. I'm glad that I really dug into the consumer reviews and ignored the so-called professional reviews on this car, because this car is the best value vehicle I have ever owned by far. I don't regularly use it for the freeway or the city, but a perfect vehicle for a rural commute for speeds normally in the 35-65 range along state routes and small towns, and I get 45-46 mpg in the winter measuring the mpg tank to tank, and 47-49 in warm weather. Yes it makes some road noise, yes it has some power train noise and a whinny sound decelerating in 2nd gear and worthless sun visors, but this little 74 peak ft lb torque somehow just cruises right up hills and has plenty of utility and worry free so far. I paid $11,820 before tax; $13.1K OTD; traded a 2017 Kia Soul that absolutely had no soul and mediocre mpg, and came out with a great car with a 100K power train warranty owing $5,700 and $93/mo payment for new transportation and go nearly 400 miles using only 8 gallons of gas. No direct injection or turbos to worry about. No CVT or auto tranny to worry about. Amazing car, amazing value. You may see reviews saying it's a rough ride or poor handling. Those are lies. It handles and rides just fine unless you are using a sports car standard to measure it's usability. I would not recommend a Mirage as a high speed daily interstate cruiser, as 4500 RPM would return the same mpg as a 4 cylinder compact such as a Corolla and so loses its advantage in that scenario, and as a city car, the CVT would be better.

    • @aaronpatrick2992
      @aaronpatrick2992 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Mr Faulkner I could not agree with you more my friend.It does handle freeway driving just fine and 77 mph is still eco mode.Above that you still get good gas mileage,all 3 cylinders run high in the rpm range even at low speeds.Easily a 400,000 mile motor and when it's time for a motor google LKQ parts online and get delivered to your house or local trusted shop a complete engine with 10-20 thousand miles for 900-1100 dollars.Hands down the best new car and cheapest replacement cost car on the market today Take care,Aaron patrick

      @@igotanimac1 ok you have to be stupid to buy a Nissan. Their CVT transmissions will break and have been breaking at 30-50k miles. Even though Mitsubishi and Suzuki buy the Jatco transmission that Nissans have, they program them differently to not have virtual shift points that Nissans have and they pair them with less powerful engines so there isn’t much strain. But I do recommend changing the CVT fluid every 20k mi or every year whichever comes first. My aunts 2015 mirage cvt has 178k mi and it still works fine she Just changes the cvt fluid every 20 k mi

    • @igotanimac1
      @igotanimac1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rocketshiftgaming5693 Stupid to buy a Nissan? That depends on who you ask and how they drive, and what model Nissan they got. You'd be stupid buy a 2.5L or greater car with a CVT, because those people are more likely to drive aggressively and cause a higher than average acceleration of strain for CVT internal components, those cars are also heavier, best to go with traditional automatic if you're going with a 2.4/2.5L or greater engine. They work fine in 1.0-2.0L engines, with maintenance and OEM fluid. Lot of people also got their CVT destroyed when they let places like Jiffy Lube use aftermarket fluids or incorrect fluids.A lot of people also don't ever change their CVT fluid until it's too late. Nissan also upgraded CVT internal components in 2019, in time for the launch of the new generation Nissan Versa. So if you get this new Nissan, you'll most likely be fine. Nissan and Mitsubishi are part of the same alliance, and share many identical parts, didn't know they programmed one to have virtual shift points and not the other, from what I've read, the issue was the belt inside the transmission not being strong enough among other internal components. Toyota also had problems with their CVT, pretty much every manufacturer has had problem with CVT in the early stages, but over time they upgrade components to fix any reliability issues.

    I got my '14 used and it had some city miles on it. Besides the exhaust falling off it has been extremely dependable, even with significant abuse. I've even towed with it (5MT). I probably wouldn't try that with the CVT but your mileage may vary. This car is loud at highway speeds, and steering feel is very light but responsive. The car is very well equipped for how cheap it is. 4x100 wheels were very common on 90s Japanese cars, and this is a 90s Japanese car. I have a 2015 CVT Mirage from new. I love that car to bits. I need economy (alimony, studying child and mortgage and all that). It has had zero defects in its entire life (85.000 miles 130.000 km). I also drove mid sized sedans. Honestly, apart from a bit more noise, I do not notice a lot of change in comfort. Suspension, seats, steering and brakes it just all fits the car. Road holding is excellent. One tip if you purchase it new or used. Do a wheel alignment! I read on the Mirage forum that 33% of Mirages have a bad alignment on the rear axle and it cannot be adjusted. You will need to fit a new rear axle then and hope you will be in the lucky 66% then. Mine was OK (but the front camber was way out of alignment from new, but that can be adjusted, although it was so bad, it took some effort).

    Small inexpensive cars like this have their place. I drove a Geo Metro back in grad school. Merging onto the DC and Baltimore Beltways was always a knuckle-biting experience. Best speed was impulse power...it was not warp capable. I am sure this car would be about the same....its the driver, not the car. You can be safe in any vehicle if you know how to drive. One good place for the Mirage, is for them to race against golf carts and ATVs at Beaver Springs. Maybe use a few Mirages in Easter Egg hunts or as props in a Jackass movie. Kudos to Gold Pony for giving this little beast a fair shot.

    • @adriangoede7433
      @adriangoede7433 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And… the simple FACT is this: American drivers have become complete and total pricks. You merge on and off at speed. The Mirage has NO PROBLEM getting up to speed whatsoever. The issue here is a complete and utter lack of courtesy for their fellow drivers. Whenever I drive, I drive the same regardless of what I’m driving. I’ve got a State Police Expedition with the 5.4 and it’ll move whenever you put your foot in it. I don’t drive it any differently than the Mirage. Piss on anyone who is so discourteous that they can’t take their foot off the gas or merge into the passing lane, so as not to run into you. Besides, at $4.50+ gas right now, if you haven’t modified your lead foot driving habits, you really are an asshole!

    I did some math. The gas savings from this car vs my work truck...
    Truck avg 20L/100km at $1.90 per L costs me $3800 in gas for one year/10,000km.
    A generous estimate of 7L/100km avg with the Mirage is $1300 for the same distance, a savings of $2500 per year.
    That's $12,500 gas savings by the end of year 5.
    If gas gets more expensive, or if the Mirage can do better than 7L/100km, the gap only widens.
    Let's say fuel price climbs to $2.15/L and stays there.
    This would put my gas bill to $4300 per 10,000km with the truck.
    Let's also say the Mirage gets 45mpg avg, which is 5.2L/100km, $1120 per year at $2.15/L.
    This would mean a savings of $3180 per year/10,000km.
    Total difference: $15,900 by the end of year 5.
    Okay, to get realistic: let's say I have to use the work truck about 50% of the time. So it takes twice as long to see the savings.
    Still, that's up to $16K saved in 10 years on gas alone, and allows the truck to last longer with less miles on it. Mirage basically pays for itself.

    Okay, I get it. Mitsubishi is required by U.S. Federal mandate to put a rear camera on all of its vehicles. Just like every other brand. And yes, on very small vehicles such as the Mirage, it's a downright goofy mandate. But, every other car-maker has found a way to hide that rear camera on the back. Mitsubishi just plops it on there with zero effort to hide it or somehow stealthy integrate it back there. It looks awful.

    I wouldn't really go by Doug's review, that one was an older model but yes it appears mostly the same but evidently Mitsubishi has since updated a bit and mostly appears to be the front end and the seats, for the sound you can upgrade to the Rockford Fosgate system which has to be 1000x better than what this car comes from the factory with as standard. For a cheap econo-box to get you from point a to b it can't really be beat. I don't own one but I would definitely go for the manual mainly due to the issues all the manufacturers have had with cvt's where they have so called lifelong fluid in them and supposedly doesn't need to be changed. CVT's do have their place in certain applications but I will take my chances with the cost of replacing the clutch than I would replacing the CVT, a lot of these today you can't get them rebuilt so you're stuck getting one from the dealer or taking a chance on a used one if you can even find it. Mitsubish used a really small tire and good luck finding them in that size, I doubt the tire shop will have them in stock and will have to order them or you can find them online but they won't be the best tires either. I'm sure they went with that size due to the little power that the car has that by going with larger more common tires it would rob too much hp.

      See my avatar? That was my 2014 DE CVT Mirage that I put 100k hard ass Uber miles on it and never once had an issue, besides a failing door lock actuator. I totaled it last December and went with a new 2021 ES CVT Mirage with full confidence knowing I was getting a frugal but well stocked with amenities, gas sipper with proven reliability. The seats haven't been upgraded with better material, just with a different stitch pattern. The 4 factory stock speakers are actually not bad at all. You can thank Mitsubishi Electric for that, but yes, I'd of loved to of had the Rockford Fosgate amp feature, but it didn't justify the added cost. However with stock speakers I have no issues doing 75mph down the highway and listening to soft spoken podcasts.
      The JATCO CVT7 found in the Mirage is perfectly suited as the Mirage curb weight is only 2100 lbs. and it only have 74 lbs. of torque. CVT reliability, with preventative maintenance isn't an issue for Mitsubishi or Suzuki, like it is with Nissan or the Chevy Spark.

    Get the new generation Nissan Versa over this. It's only about $250-$300 more expensive but you get a bigger car, wider and longer for better handling/safety. Also rates better in some crash tests than the mirage. Is less likely to flip over due to it being lower and wider. Gets similar gas mileage. 32 City, 40 Highway (lower partly due to better and bigger tires) with reports of people achieving over 50 MPG. For the price difference, I don't see why you wouldn't choose the Versa.

    • @edgaryzen4925
      @edgaryzen4925 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nissan has that JaETCO CVT reliability issue. This is a different in house CVT. Nissan’s manual transmission is more reliable but nobody wants it and it sucks.
      The Versa is not a fair comparison to the Mirage HB however is comparable to the sedan version of the Mirage called “G4”. I have the new one and I was shopping for the Versa S but then all Nissan dealers prioritize mark up over customer service w/ MSRP. Plus, the Versa don’t have Apple CarPlay Android Auto and get a bit less gas mileage. It alright. No personality IMO. The G4 get extra leg room from the rear, Apple CarPlay Android Auto, very nice trunks space (I’m sure Versa get a lol bit more) aggressive looks, and more.
      Mitsubishi dealer that I went to has a solid track record of customer service plus very little to zero mark up. Very opposite of Nissan and because I for example wanted to get the proven-reliable brand new sedan, 45-50 MPG HWY with a manual transmission option and Apple CarPlay Android Auto along with a personality ie aggressive looks and 3 cylinders charm, it was a done deal.
      Buying a car in general shouldn’t be a negative one and should meet realistic expectations from research, price, and customer service. All three objectives have to be fulfilled to be in good term IMO.

    • @igotanimac1
      @igotanimac1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edgaryzen4925 JATCO cvt transmission had internal hardware components upgraded right around the time this new generation Nissan Versa came out. So those components that caused problems in older certain model Nissans have now been upgraded, some new generation Nissan owners have already gone well over 50K miles with no transmission problems. No, the mirage uses JATCO CVT. Nissan and Mitsubishi are part of the same alliance, and together use JATCO transmissions.
      The versa does have Apple Carplay, but only in SV and SR trim. The mirage might be slightly cheaper by about $250-$1,000, depending on mark up. For me personally, the slight price difference is worth the better wider and grippier tires, handling, design and safety (especially side tests where it performed significantly worse than Versa).

      Yikes? If the Mitsubishi is such a bummer to you then why bother viewing the vid or making a comment on it?

      Or you could of paid that and gotten a new Mirage mi amigo. Both reliable, proven hatchbacks, one geared for pure fuel economy, the other, more refinement and better handling. Hatchback owners need to support one another or were not going to have any cheap shitboxes available.

      I paid $9,299 ($14,220 window sticker) for a brand new 2017 Mirage ES manual). Had I qualified for the 3 rebates it would have been $7,999 for a brand new car. I agree that I wouldn't pay the current price for a new Mirage, but your Scion was bought before the big hike in used car prices, too. Try buying a new Scion today. I know of a Mirage with over 400,000 miles on it. My Mirage saves wear & tear on my older Forester & gets almost twice the gas mileage. I bought a Mirage so I can avoid having a vehicle payment for 10-15 years & save on gas at the same time.

    zero reason to buy this over a Hyundai accent or Kia rio.. or any used car that is a year or two old... a 3 cylinder car with 76hp sucks and to say the power train has a 200,000 mile warranty is a joke and something they KNOW they will never have to fulfill...

      Mirage has better mpg, more cargo volume room, better price, and has proven itself reliable since 2014. I'm still waiting to see if Hyuandai/ KIA new IVT is reliable. It'll be a few years till we know.
