    This segment of car is unfortunately almost extinct. The last Chevy Sparks are being made RIGHT NOW. Pretty soon, only the Mitsu Mirage will be the last car standing for the budget segment. The ENTIRE car industry is now completely on board with only making cars with what would've been LUXURY options just a few years ago, forcing people to fork over +40K for the lowest trim level models available. This pushes low income people to buy half broken used cars that are unsafe to drive or take out a massive loan, only for them to have their transportation to their underpaying job, repo'ed when they can't make payment.

      Ford does have the maverick which starts at 22k with 5 seats and happens to be a hybrid pickup that is well equipped, building a car cheaper than a model t adjusted for inflation today is really hard. Ford may be starting a move back to basic vehicles for an affordable price.

      That is the problem with manufactures advertising base model prices, then only sending mid-high tier trims. Its even worse with dealer fees adding own options to inflate prices especially on the lower tier models.

    Great review! I've owned my Attrage, which is the sedan version of the Mirage, since December 2017 and I absolutely love it! These cars are so much fun to drive, extremely durable, and highly economical. You should try to review the Attrage, it has the same engine, and still gets 19km per litre (44.6 mpg), yet it has much more space in the rear and a proper trunk. I was surprised by all the extras that come as standard like folding wing mirrors and the rear camera (which really helps with reversing!). I've also been really happy with Mitsubishi servicing and they never charge that much.

The major tire store chain I went to only offered me 2 options. The same OEM tires for $94 each that had poor traction and wore too quickly, or a generic brand that was slightly wider for $48 each. I went generic. Definitely the right decision. Much better grip in corners and an improved steering feel.

    This is a good car for a DIY mechanic, very little computer crap to deal with. All years have pretty much the same components, so if you need to swap the engine for some reason you can get one from a junkyard and drop it in without a lift because it’s so small. It’s also good for a person who has only ever owned old simple cars. You get to have something shiny and new without getting angry over computer crap and features you aren’t used to.

    I've had a manual G4 (2017) for over a year now. The maintenance is the cheapest car maintenance ever. This thing takes so little oil in a change, and the tires are super cheap. Changing the tires in the winter is an absolute breeze; rims are small and light, and only require 4 bolts. The engine is very simple and well-designed as well! My dad bought a chevy sonic, and he keeps having problems with the coolant reservoir cracking and leaking.
    My car has had 0 issues, 94 000 km and still going strong; well worth it for the price if you ask me.
    The fuel saving are off the charts; I get 44-50 MPG in this thing. If you want better fuel mileage, then you're going to have to spend a LOT more on a hybrid.
    The only complaint I have is the low acceleration, but that can be offset by good manual driving, or putting it into sport with the CVT. I wouldn't buy a CVT Mirage because I have heard bad things about the company that manufactures them (JATCO). Nissan had some issues with CVTs made by them.

    • @kylemas2005
      @kylemas2005 ปีที่แล้ว

      The JATCO CVT7 operates quite well in the underpowered 78hp Mirage. It isn't stressed at all. My wife and I are on our 4th Mirage, that's almost 650k miles combined, all CVT, no powertrain issues at all in all those miles. These are excellent delivery workhorses, 5speed or CVT7.

White Bear was selling the ES manuals for $9,000-9,500 back when I bought my 2017 (newly updated model). I paid under 66% window sticker at the time, & they delivered my new Mirage to my home 4 hours away for free. I could have bought two new Mirages for the price of one today. Mitsubishi had been sitting on 3 cylinders since before 2013 and did nothing.
    Toyota and Nissan managed to overtake Mitsubishi with 3 cylinder design even though Mitsubishi stated introducing 3 cylinders to main stream before both toyota and nissan.

      There is no longevity issue with the transmission, once it is developed properly . Mitsubishi is just poor at understanding the automobile market.

      Doug had two generations ago. The 2014-2015 was one generation and it kind of sucked, not the engine or transmission which was the same, but the suspension was weak, there was less sound dampening materials, and the infotainment system was bad even for the year. They skipped 2016 and revamped the Mirage for 2017-2020 which had a facelift, second generation suspension that was a huge upgrade over the previous generation, and slightly better infotainment that could be upgraded. They took it further with the update they made for 2021 which improved the suspension springs, gave another facelift, standardized the infotainment system and added standard frontal collision mitigation standard in North America. The engine mount also looks different from previous years, and it could be that it isolates better now because I really don't feel the engine like the 2014 which was reported reported to have a noticeable shake.
