    Notes about this video:
    1. In an ideal world, I would have had a 'uniform' that was made of natural material like wool, but 1). I'm not made of money, and 2). I wanted something easy to wash and dry.
    2. I also got a 'summer uniform top' (sleeveless cropped tee) but it was never warm enough to wear it.

I love uniforms. When I quit working at a place where a uniform was required I became very unhappy with my wardrobe. I do not like having a lot of clothes. I just want to grab and go.
My ideal wardrobe is 3 uniforms, 3 day outfits, 1 grunge work outfit, and 3 church outfits

A friend of mine had a slightly different approach to this which could suit your personality more. She had a Monday outfit, Tuesday outfit, Wednesday etc. so she didn’t have to think what she would wear that day, but it was always different from the day before and the day after. From memory there was nothing set for the weekend.

I love choosing what to wear in the morning: what style to adopt, what colours to suit my mood. I love clothes, so to me it's not time wasted. It's time spent doing something I enjoy. And I definitely notice what other people wear. Not in a critical way, more appreciating different styles and aesthetics. I can see the appeal of the simplicity, but def not for me. This was a really interesting experiment. Thanks for putting it out there in the world ❤ xx

I've got a friend who kind of does the opposite, she has specific out of the house outfits and then wears whatever at home. The same dress for all celebrations or important events for 12 years so far, it almost looks like she's a time traveler when you look at all our photos hahaa. I find it strangely comforting when she wears her 'fancy' clothes to things, kind of signifies the specialness of the event. Plus whenever I see someone else with a similar style or the same colour I'm reminded of her which is lovely.

I was a Marine for an entire career. One of the best parts about it was that I had a uniform -- no worries about what to wear every day, and even on formal occasions I had the formal uniform. One of the hardest things about transitioning to the civilian world -- figuring out what to wear, especially as a female! It seems that men can always wear Dockers and a white shirt -- to everything!

Your experiment was so timely, as I've been thinking more about the need for a uniform per se for work to simplify my life, to save money and be more environmentally responsible. I lean towards black anyway and I live near NYC so black as a color choice is often seen as sophisticated and classy. I'm also doing "Swedish death cleaning" to make it easier for my family to sort through my stuff when I pass whole also experiencing the benefit of greater simplicity.
Re: the questions you pose, I love how your experiments go beyond whether something works or not; rather you poke us with bigger and more thoughtful questions about one's choices. I agree with you about how men and women are socialized about clothing choices and perceptions f those choices. However, I'm intrigued with how gender expression hads been upended (in a good way) about how people can dress. Of course, this isn't new and often culturally bound; still, it's interesting to think about and perhaps will give us more freedom (?)
Thanks again for another great video! And, no judgment at all - frankly, didn't even notice and not boring at all!

I'd love to try it. Perhaps an expansion of this could be to try a uniform in "your" colours (after doing the skin tone colour analysis) and assess whether they actually affect your mood. A colleague of mine, knowing her colour palette, would buy only clothes in that palette which she already knew would match and look good on her and dress in the morning in two seconds with her eyes closed, removing decision fatigue. Perhaps an idea for another video??

I've been doing this for about a decade. It's so freeing to not have to worry about what you're going to wear every day. I have one style of pants for spring/summer, and another style for fall/winter. Same goes for tops, long sleeve and short sleeve. I buy them in every color (that looks good on me) from L.L. Bean, and when something wears out, it is easily replaceable because they always make the same styles.

I sew all my clothes from a small number of patterns, so make the same dress, jacket, trousers etc, in a variety of coloured fabrics , plain and patterned. I chose the sewing patterns for their ease in sewing , the comfort on wearing , they suit my frame and build, I can layer too.

What I like about this, and what your video made me realise, is that now you have an outfit (or a set of outfits) that you can just go with on the days that you don’t care, don’t have much time, etc. But that also makes it very clear when you do really feel like wearing a particular outfit/colour, it’s like a clear signal in your brain: oh yes, this dress that I love, really want to wear that today. and that now also does not require much energy (except if that dress wouldn’t be practical in which case you can go back to the uniform). So basically it makes the whole process of getting dressed much easier, even on days were you don’t actually end up wearing the uniform.

Hi Laura! This video is the first of yours that I've seen. The outfit you've chosen lends a chic, professional, and bad-ass vibe, in my opinion. I believe it is due to the unique tailoring and cut of your pants and shirts as well as the sharp contrast of the black against your skin tone. All in all, I enjoyed this video thoroughly. We can all go now and find something we may choose last because of fit or feels. Then why are they hanging there? People are important. Not what they are wearing. Less is more. But if u find something you love. Buy it!! Wear it or say good bye to it.

Ive been only buying two new pants and four shirts for everyday wearing with an additional shirt and pants for going to the shop each year for the past eight years. I am a housewife and wear a apron over my clothes. My aprons are home made. The trick is to buy good quality 100% cotton or linen when you buy clothes or fabric and to handwash these items. During the winter months I alternate two jackets and a sweater that is over 10 years old. I also wear the previous year's pants and shirts when I attend to my vegetable garden in order to make my clothes last long enough before the next purchase.

I basically do a variation of this by using a “capsule wardrobe” which might be a fun experiment for another video for you. Basically you buy about ~10 clothing items that can be mixed and matched well and you only wear those. This cuts down on the selection paralysis of a giant wardrobe bc you only have a few tops and bottoms to choose from, but I’ve found it kinda boosts creativity bc it’s like how can I combine these into different outfits I like.

I work from home also (not on camera) and have been known to wear the same outfit all week; I go from my night pj's to my work pj's. I find it easier in the morning not having to figure out what to wear. If I'm comfortable and not fidgeting in my outfit, I'm more productive at work. I allow myself to change into regular street clothes when I have an appointment outside the house or go to the store. Love your videos and your accent.

This falls along the line of most of us having a finite amount of (creative) mental energy that can be expended each day - and every decision draws from that finite pool, leaving less for the more important works.
I've seen various versions of this - one person had the same breakfast every day for years and I have a story of a friend's dad - an engineer who retired and did not want to put on weight. So he calculated his energy needs and designed a set of meals around that, that he has every day.
I can see having some kind of uniform to get you into a working mindset is useful - so long as there is the balance of having a non-work clothes where you can put work behind you or show your personality.
The other line is an experiment on what other people think/ notice - with the answer often being "not much". We had a local, male, morning TV host who wore the same suit every day for a year - in a protest against some of the comments his female co-hosts received about what they wore - and no-one noticed. (LOL)
On that - I can't say I really noticed your all-black phase. I know I saw it - but it wasn't something that I thought about.
Likely because I'm a clueless male - but I also used to have a copy of a quote in my work area saying " a clean desk is the sign of a cluttered mind" and I'm a firm believer of that.

You are SOOO the best, Laura! I can't know of course if this is the real you - but it feels real to me and I feel honored to be let into your life! I chose a pair of black wide-leg pants and a black mock turtleneck blouse/top in 1986 (!!) YES!! and have been wearing some variation of that forever. I feel comfortable (and slim) in black but love best that I don't have to think about what to put on. I have maybe 3 pieces in prints (jungle prints) that I wear over the black pieces every once in a while. Love my style; LOVE yours! ps - did you find Halara stood up to that rigor - many washings etc?

Really enjoyed that. There is probably sense to the final verdict. Of mix and match outfits. Some people are gifted at buying outfits. Where I only buy an item of clothes. My mother always buys her jumper and tip together to match a specific pants. It's something I must do.

At a previous job I cycled to work, the ride wasn't strenuous so I didn't need a dedicated outfit, so I just wore my work clothes. Realistically that meant I had to wear trousers as dresses or skirts weren't practical for me. I had three trousers (two black one blue) and a range of very similar in style blouses (all be it different colours) and three jumpers. I knew that whatever I grabbed would look fine together and would be work appropriate. Honestly, it was so relaxing not to have to think about what to pick as an outfit in the morning because no matter what combo I chose, it always worked. I miss that and now I'm thinking I might gently nudge my wardrobe back in the direction

It is called a uniform. I think it is a great idea and I fondly recall my school days. A Swedish lady on TH-cam ( who is minimalist) limited her colours to black, grey and a shade of white. The cut of all her trousers, tops, sweaters, are also the same because she knows what flatters her body shape.

Ha I’ve been waiting for this, LT … I was right about you planning a capsule wardrobe! 😂
As you know, I love the outfits 😉 They look so together on you and not sombre at all. Love the brooches additions, and that you had compliments too. The different colours in the same style are a great idea. I tend to only wear two colours or my mind feels cluttered. I do have some patterned items, and love a scandi jumper. Most of my wardrobe is black, and thanks to you, soon to be blacker! x🖤x

Well done! I'm not sure I'd have had the gumption to carry once I got bored. I really like that outfit; what a great choice you made.
I LOVE choosing what to wear every day. I wore all black for years and years (the clothes were sometimes quite eccentric, but always black). Then, I had my colours done, found out I was a bright spring and realised what I'd been missing out on. Also, as the colours in my palette all work so well together, it's so much fun to go as bright as possible (without quite looking completely loopy lala!) I love my spring palette and haven't worn black even once, since I was analysed in March last year. Even my cycling clothes and workout stuff are in my colours. Oh, and underwear (I turned over a new leaf and only ever wear matching sets, now).
By the way, there ARE some differences between men and women and it's perfectly all right to acknowledge that (unless one is completely unhinged, in which case, it may be an issue for some, hehe).

I discovered elastic waistbands in my 20s and never went back. Mid 50s now, still only wear them, except for summer when I wear drawstring waist shorts (US, not sure what they're called in UK). I also found a multi-colored stripe sweater (jumper) that goes with black trousers, and bought multiples, so I still have a uniform that works for any activity and includes color. I have yet to find a striped tank top/singlet for summer wear that I can get multiples of, and I've learned how to knit them, might get around to knitting several. That's a long-term project!

I'm curious that you chose solid black when you usually wear patterns and colours. Now at the end, I see you stayed with the same style but added colour back in. Perfect solution!
A few years ago, I pared my wardrobe back to all blues and whites. Blue being my favourite colour. And I limit myself to 3 of each piece - slacks, skirts, tops, t shirts, etc. So my wardrobe is contained yet has variety. I alternate between blue bottom/white top and white top/blue bottom in winter/summer.
Since I started doing this maybe 5 years ago, exactly 2 people have commented on my blue tops - both were men in the progressive circle at rock n roll dancing. One was when I switched from blue on top to white on top (Where's your blue top?) and the other commented when I wore a new patterned blue and white top rather than solid blue. I just laughed. Honestly, it was the first time in my life I didn't feel invisible. Maybe the blue is more flattering to my skin tone than white. Who knows?!
Dancing has taught me that no one is paying as much attention to me (my dancing skills, my clothes, where I live, what I drive, etc) as I am.

Perfect idea for a work wardrobe to simplify life. I would need choices for the weekend and going out but also love the idea of having this to fall back on for the times when it’s too hard to decide!
I agree this is somehow more acceptable for guys to do and women (and men!) can enjoy clothes as a means of self expression, however I wonder if our personality may shine more if the clothes are a blank canvas and not influencing others opinions?!
PS you look so fab in yellow please don’t give that up long term 😊

I would only adopt wearing the same outfit every day if I needed to save money I think. I spend way too much money on clothes so I can see it would have good benefits but I just love different colours styles and textures of the clothes I have. I don’t look good in black but I like the idea of finding something that feels comfy and that might make me simplify what I wear. But like you found when you were going out it’s difficult to find something that works for different occasions. I’d have to have a winter and a summer outfit too. Great video thanks Laura for even making me consider this idea!

Hey Laura, I think nearly everyone has a favourite set of clothes that they wear every day, probably without noticing that they are. For me, it’s jeans in various stages of blue, also like black, and I love khaki green shades. Summer or winter, with pants being looser and cooler in our hot Australian summers. I am not a dresses or skirts person at all because they get in the way of all activities. All tops are colours with strength like blues, greys, pinks, black, and definitely reds. I have white blond curly shoulder length hair and am in my 60’s, tall and slim. I love red accents more than anything, shoes, scarves, caps. I am a visual artist and hard working gardener, ride a push bike in warm months and walk almost every day. I love variety. I have some favourite barefoot shoes and love boots. I cannot do fussy clothes or anything that flaps around, no frilly’s nor tops that scream in my face on myself. Pants and tops with lots of colour and will adapt to the weather, means plenty of choices. If I had to wear black every day for a month I know that I would absolutely hate it.

If you haven't already, you might want to explore colour seasons and what your colour season paletter might be based on your skin undertones/overtones. House of colour are great for that if you want to invest but otherwise theres loads of resources online. It means that by sticking to a palette, the majority of your clothes will go with each other no matter what. It makes shopping and getting dressed soo much easier but still keeping colours and personality! It's been life changing for me! Love your channel ❤❤❤

I think your all black choice looks smart so I wouldn't think twice about seeing that in a video. Because you asked, personally I think the fact that it is a collared shirt vs a tshirt makes me think you look "fancier" or "professional". Recently I'd decided for myself to have seven outfits each season for work that I will just rotate - not mix and match because that is still thinking, but just a rotation of seven outfits and this has reduced the thinking fatigue, i just pick the next one in rotation and go. It allows me to vary up my clothing without any decision fatigue.

Have thoroughly enjoyed your video. My thoughts throughout … colour is wonderful on you. Your frills and feminine clothes are wonderful on you. I agree that choosing each day is hard. At one point in my life I wore a lot of black and white for ease of washing. Now I wear all sorts but some things sit in my laundry basket for a couple of weeks until I get something else of the same or similar colour. I now have navy as a base colour because it suits me more than black. I still have a uniform of sorts but it’s bang on my personality. So I thoroughly support a uniform but I also think clothes should reflect the real you. My recent attitude change to clothes has helped me throw out some things that just don’t work or got me well. Once upon a time I would have kept them for years but never worn them. Last year I night three tops all the same style. Finding them t hard to pick clothes to fit me, I bought one of them despite note being sure of the colour and pattern. First time I wore it someone I’d known for over 30 years said in a surprised tone ‘oh sorry I didn’t recognise you’. That was enough for me to go yep that’s going to get donated. A very expensive donation. After this whole process I realised I needed to get back to my genuine style and stick with it. No more expensive off track purchases. Thanks for your great video.

Interesting, firstly I don’t think any different of you if you are wearing yellow or black. I think you are sincere and usually upbeat with the right amount of honesty when your garden isn’t rosy. I heard some one talking about the clothes mountains this summer. Now I just want to reduce my purchases and maybe have 5-7 outfits and 3-5 gym clothes. I’ve already purged 5 large trash bags but I’m ready to fill some more. I have heavily minimised my wardrobe over the past few years. I live rurally and work from home (we have the same Woolpower zipneck, Laura, but mine is red). In cold weather I wear black Rohan Troggings, black trainers, a merino top (zipneck, hoodie or tee in various colours) and a fleece gilet. As it gets warmer, I switch to pull-on wide-leg jeans and a Breton top. For summer, I have pull-on wide-leg linen trousers in navy or white, tees in navy or white and a navy cardigans, plus a small wardrobe of dresses, mostly blue cotton. I avoid pattern other than stripes and polka dots, but I have a bunch of bright pashminas. For summer, I buy a pair of bright leather Oxfords every year or two and I've worn the same straw hat for over 20 years. This system works pretty well for me. I've been more minimal but found myself washing clothes constantly, so I added a few things back in.
