I like model a fords so long as keeping them stock,i don't like when you see a decent A Ford some people just butcher it up and turn it into a Frankenstein monster .Nice fun car, enjoy it.all the best to you.
Great to see and welcome a new husband and wife getting into A's .I think you'll find she's got a ton of enjoyment left in her. FLUIDS, FLUIDS, FLUIDS. Oil every 1000,trans fluids, rear end fluid.Climb under check ,brake rods, tightness of everything. Get her upon 4 bocks and good check on brakes. Coolant level..I hope you enjoy your new fiend. Better get used to many new conversations with new friends you never thought you had.God bless you be safe and enjoy. Thx
Congratulations Mike. Great car and as an owner of 5 model A's I can assure you will have fun. Parts are plentiful and at a reasonable price. Great videos on line. You are already watching Paul Shinn that has great videos. Find a local Club and you will have help and great fun. Join the National Clubs MAFCA and MARC, money well spent. Purchase the Les Andrews books which are the bible in repairs. With that and Paul Shinn videos you can fix anything. The best part: your wife is on board!
Make sure you have fun with the "A" along the way. All of those littl things don't need to be perfect to have a good time. I bought my 1930 Model A Town Sedan while in Junior High school for $10, and started enjoying it around the farm until I could get a license. Now, 63 years later, I'm still driving that Model A and there is still a list of things that need to be repaired/restored! So have fun! That smile tells me you probably will.
Great to see a wife share her husband's passion for a vintage Ford. I was'nt that lucky. My wife at the time, refused to ride in my 31 Tudor"It's not safe, does'nt have seat-belts, etc".
Great buy. Enjoy "fixing it up". Merlin and his wife from Merlins Old School Garage are driving theirs home to Lake Havasu Arizona from Ohio and you might enjoy watching a few of their videos. Not running when they bought it and lots of repairs on the road show how easy it is to work on. jack
Awesome car Mikey, I just happened to watch roadworthy rescues yesterday in which Derek Bieri salvages a model A that has been of the road for more than 40 years. Great episode and really inspiring. Good luck with it!
I've owned a similar Model A Coupe since 1964 and know a few things about the pos and cons of owning one. For instance, try to avoid the hills. You'll be in second or even low gear going up even a bit of a hill unless you can get a good run at it. And of course those brakes aren't exactly made for any panic stops. Maybe cast iron drums would help. I don't know as yet since they're so damned expensive on the Canadian side. As for that ignition switch, I'd say don't worry about it not being a pop out. I replaced my pop out switch with a regular turn key model which looks the same because of several problems you can have with a pop out. For one thing, it can stop popping out all the way since the cable puts it under pressure to bend a bit and can jam in the hole. Then the car won't start since the electrical connections aren't contacting. I could go on but that's enough for now.
Congrats on the “A”, plenty of great car shows around the HARCO, and Cecil Co area! Check out the Hagley Museum show next Sunday the 17th of Sept on the DuPont Estate. Hagley is always a great show, but more than anything if you haven’t been to Hershey for the AACA Fall Swap Meet and Car Show in October, yet is the Mecca of car shows and swap meets! Again CONGRATS! I saw the MD tags and I’m from the area…..
