This has been very helpful ! Long story short.... I took my car completely apart 20 years ago. And i mean APART !!! The problem is shortly after talking her apart i took a 80 foot header into some rock ! Now that my marbles are lining up I'm trying to get her back on the road. Afer 20 years i figured it's time. Thanks for the video and inspiration !
I noticed the axle seal kits are pretty universal, are the paper gaskets not used on IRS, I think they are only used on Swing axle, but all other parts are the same ?
Very clearly explained. Thanks.
I hope you got your money back on that engine
Nice handy poor man's rotisserie👍👍
Awesome video man! Gonna check/replace the brakes on my '62 🙏
should have purchased the correct rotors! The spacer is a joke your not using all of the spline area
Thanks for your insight... I did this grease packing job a year ago and with your information Thank You I did it correctly
It beats jeeps , Toyota, and broncos
Fiberglass work is so intimidating. How would one fix a fender? The previous owner cut about 1in to a 1in 1/2 off of my buggy and I would like to add it back but no clue where to begin.
How did you get the napoleon hat to sit flush? Mine does not
I think it ultimately comes down to tolerances between the lift and the napoleon hat. Mine did generally fit, but I had to give it a few gentle "pushes" to get it to fit. It does flex a bit. Ultimately I decided to take the lift back off and not use it...I didn't like the way it made the body sit on the car.
you said you used m10 bolts in the front on the napoleon hat. Arent they the same size bolts as the rear channel? Im picking up a rolling chassis without pans but with trans and body thats not attached for a great price to finish my dune buggy and I need to grab bolts for the body to bolt to the front and rear chassis so I can move it flat towed. I have the bolts somewhere for the original body from my shortened chassis but theyre buried. Can you help
On a standard beetle they should be the same size all around. However due to the body lift the holes on this were drilled a different size and I had to use the M10’s.
@@mikehitchings4948 awesome. Love your restoration of the Manx by the way. I'm working on a genuine Berry Mini T rebuild! Hope to have it done by summer
Hey Mike. Looking good. You have a link to where you got the headlights and the turn signals?
Awesome!
Did you ever figure this out?
I like this upgrade. If your A still has points, get a Pertronix unit to replace your points. The Pertronix will fit in your original distributor body and will be a huge improvement over the points and will assure greater reliability, saving you a lot of reliability issues, which is quite common with most original A's.
1930 Model A coupe
It was really cool seeing all of those buggies together. Had a great time talking with people and videoing them all.
Nice work. Did you have to re angle the steering system?
Great presentation. Not only ‘how’ but ‘why’.
Thanks for the video !!
very good vid on this topic ,,,,,will be doing this very soon in 2023 october ! god bless
Been following your project (currently working on a full-length project myself). Great to see it rolling! Nice job

Looking awesome brother, getting close now😀😀
It’s been a slog. Just under a year. I can’t believe it. I couldn’t have ever done this without the support of my loving wife and family!!
@@mikehitchings4948yes that makes a big difference 👍
I always wanted a Full Pan buggy like that! With actual roof for friends in the back seat.
The roll cage and possible roof are coming…hang around!
Looking awesome! I love the wheels and tires. Could you send me the details on the smoothie’s regarding size for front and back. As well as the tires. Been loving your videos!

I like the aggressive tread pattern look and so far they’re low noise and great grip.
Nice car, I always liked those cars!
Looks like your front tires might rub when you hit a bump? I have a Airkewld front beam on my 75 bug.
I brought the front up a little and it only rubs at full lock one way or the other.
You guys usually get a good turnout? I usually go to hunt valley
Usually anywhere between 50-100 cars!
Cut a wedge out of your shock towers and bend them down. That's what someone did you my factory towers to clear the manx clone body. In the late 60s, so it lasted anyway!
I thought about that but I’m not willing to cut the aftermarket shock towers. If this was an OEM beam, I’d consider it.
We still use fax machines believe it or not for security reasons. Emails are a higher risk of being intercepted and some info we can't take that chance.
Make sure you have fun with the "A" along the way. All of those littl things don't need to be perfect to have a good time. I bought my 1930 Model A Town Sedan while in Junior High school for $10, and started enjoying it around the farm until I could get a license. Now, 63 years later, I'm still driving that Model A and there is still a list of things that need to be repaired/restored! So have fun! That smile tells me you probably will.
Very true!
Congrats on the “A”, plenty of great car shows around the HARCO, and Cecil Co area! Check out the Hagley Museum show next Sunday the 17th of Sept on the DuPont Estate. Hagley is always a great show, but more than anything if you haven’t been to Hershey for the AACA Fall Swap Meet and Car Show in October, yet is the Mecca of car shows and swap meets! Again CONGRATS! I saw the MD tags and I’m from the area…..
Thanks! Will do!

Looks great Mike, just have to figure out how to make the tower holes invisible along the edges of the bonnet. At the moment I’m at the airport in Houston traveling to Denver for a great motorcycle road-trip. know what you mean by heat.. twice the temperature of holland. I finished my buggie last month! Have you figured out a color yet? Good luck!
I watch a lot of Paul Shinn's Model A how to videos...
Show how to install the thermostat. Having a thermostat will not Crack the head. The thermostat is 160 deg. Once your engine reaches that temp. Water will flow through the cooling system. I use 50/50 green anti-freeze and distilled water. Normal days the temperature gauge runs at 160. During summer Phoenix or Fort Worth hot day over 100. It runs about 180. Hope this helps and keep doing your wonderful videos
Adding a thermostat to a model A is a great way to crack a 100 year old block. I would not recommend it.
That could definitely be a timing issue. I think i would make sure that was right.
Many times it is sediment and gunk in the tank. If that is the case it will show up in both the glass sediment bowl and also in the carb itself. Likely will be a persistent problem until you resolve it.
Albertolugo gave you the very most important advice! Follow that. Also, double clutch! I have to finish my dads 30 coupe, twin color to yours. Thanks for dropping in!!!!
I've owned a similar Model A Coupe since 1964 and know a few things about the pos and cons of owning one. For instance, try to avoid the hills. You'll be in second or even low gear going up even a bit of a hill unless you can get a good run at it. And of course those brakes aren't exactly made for any panic stops. Maybe cast iron drums would help. I don't know as yet since they're so damned expensive on the Canadian side. As for that ignition switch, I'd say don't worry about it not being a pop out. I replaced my pop out switch with a regular turn key model which looks the same because of several problems you can have with a pop out. For one thing, it can stop popping out all the way since the cable puts it under pressure to bend a bit and can jam in the hole. Then the car won't start since the electrical connections aren't contacting. I could go on but that's enough for now.
Good work getting there 👍
Hey Mikey I’m digging your project buggy, I have a few videos on my channel of my buggy maybe you could get a few ideas from mine, looking forward to see you make it a driver😀😀

Great buy. Enjoy "fixing it up". Merlin and his wife from Merlins Old School Garage are driving theirs home to Lake Havasu Arizona from Ohio and you might enjoy watching a few of their videos. Not running when they bought it and lots of repairs on the road show how easy it is to work on. jack
I bought a 31 couple of months ago I’m having the exact same problems
Congratulations Mike. Great car and as an owner of 5 model A's I can assure you will have fun. Parts are plentiful and at a reasonable price. Great videos on line. You are already watching Paul Shinn that has great videos. Find a local Club and you will have help and great fun. Join the National Clubs MAFCA and MARC, money well spent. Purchase the Les Andrews books which are the bible in repairs. With that and Paul Shinn videos you can fix anything. The best part: your wife is on board!
