I love hearing the sound the gearbox makes it takes me right back to when I was 17 learning to drive in my viva. Im57 now and every time I hear that I wish I still had it
Drove my first HC ( 1800 ) when I was 15, four HC's later I still have two in the backyard BTW I'm 60 now😮 Prefer 3 Mitsubishi's as everyday runners in my drive these days 😂❤
There a museum in Christchurch ( S.I ) New Zealand called Stewart's they have an HB, a G.T and an HC all side by side, hope that helps for the time being ❤😊@@TroyGoodacre
I use to remember one sound was the indicator and hazard wàrning was another sound ( & possibly speed ) the model HC I had them both between wiper switch 9.00 oclock in the column and manual choke / cigarette 🚬 lighter 😂❤
"2:56" good old AC Delco DN-460 aka "Delcotron" with diode trio Alternator. Now that brings back memories 😅, fitted both second reconditioned ones and imported new ones. Those alternators are in two halves ( 2 hemispheres ) so they could either be fitted to the OHV 1256cc ( rhd drivers side ) or LHS slant 4 ( OHC 1759cc / 2279cc ) Viva / Magnum / Chevette. Try finding someone whom knows how to rotate those alternators ( split hemispheres ) from OHC to OHV, love the memories you bring back 😮❤😂
I still have nightmares about Viva suspension having to either heat or burn off every nut and bolt along with the dreaded spring compressors. We didn't have the power tools and angle grinders we use today.
Another brilliant video love it.i would personally put new ball joints on it for peace of mind. Then you can forget about it and move on with other jobs. Don't forget to get your tracking checked so you don't get adverse wear on your tyres. Keep up the good work buddy.
I use to find the indicator switch contacts would heat up ( dust accumulation) if I forgot to reassemble the steering column shroud back. There was the button under the column 😮 that needed to be put back too, otherwise you coùldn't withdraw the ignition key 🔑 😉 🍻📸👌
Yes replace the ball joints if you already have them, may as well put the old track rod ends if they are still good as New rubber doesn't last long! Paint the arms as well,do it once and it's finished.
Might as well replace all the joints now the arms are off belt and braces way of doing things means its done once only seeing how much work it is to take them off Loving this i had a 1300 viva back in the day was bomb proof but slow as f*** 😅😅😅😅
Difficult question on whether to replace the ball joints while you have it out. I don't know what the choices are in the factors nowadays for Viva parts but for other vehicles the different choices vary a hell of a lot in quality. Some are only designed to get you through the mot and many garages use them as they are happy for the customer coming back to do the same job the next year. I guess that is what you fitted last time if it the rubber has gone already. Others like the OEM quality ones will last years. You should be able to tell by comparing them side by side. As you are now used to doing them it is not a big deal if you take the gamble to put a new rubber on the old ones and they go bad.. Do they all have grease gun fittings or do the aftermarket ones omit those? Think the Viva was the last car I had with such fittings. By the sound of it if they were not sloppy before you took them off they should still be fine especially if you give them a bit of grease to squirt out any contaminated grease from the split boot.
I’d dig out the replacements and compare them. If they are correct then replace them if you can. If they won’t come off, you could replace the boots from the new ones
My second car was a Viva HC - 2 door, light blue, 1159cc engine, K reg. The only issue I had with it was when the clutch slave cylinder packed up on a roundabout in Maidenhead. It had no rust and was otherwise always reliable. I got rid of it when my cousin was flogging his Mk 1 VW Polo 1.0 - which was rusty as anything, utterly unreliable but was "modern" in 1986.
Tearing up the street 🤣😂 you do want to stop sniffing the glue new floor looks great you should stick to working on the house and not trying to be a mechanic (I'm joking) with you I still really think you should do a modified one with one of the two even if it's another old vauxhall as they did do many oldschool engines like a 20L MK1 cav or something on that it's a 1.3 61 bhp left years ago my grandfather had a t reg 20L cav it went ok but the gearbox was like driving a truck the gear stick was long the best was my antys chevette 1.6 engine on 1.3 running gear

The sound of those indicators bring back memories, wish I still had my viva, but it was nicked in about 1989

Hello Steve, brilliant video,it is a nippy car when it was on the road.get some new ones while it is on the stands, then you can say it's done.😊

In the Vauxhall Viva's days there were no speed humps, happy days I remember them well.
You have her apart so it makes sense to change them. You’re doing great!
The Viva looks good out on the road, liked the "Airplane!" reference lol. Great to see another old Vauxhall being saved 👍
Put the yellow flashing light on the roof you could be the Newcastle Starsky & Hutch!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great work & superb the Viva is running sweetly & you aren’t even an Engineer

Sounds a great idea 💡 painting the arms 👍

I would get new ones. Gets a set of slot mags for the viva it would look smart!

All viva's had cable operated clutches.
@@roberttucker805 indeed they did, I still have a brand new cable I never got round to fitting, I got rid of the car in 1990.
@@roberttucker805Hallelujah! Glad someone said it 👏 🍻👌
I’d replace the top & bottom arms ball joint’s tbh
Great video again keep them coming
I’ve just had a quick bob ross
I see you also rip your gloves and keep on wrenching. I honestly cant be bothered haha
You never showed us around the badboy
Personally why its in bits id swap ball joints
Didn’t you paint some wheels for this car once?
Did a test one, haven't painted them yet mate 👍
My HC has done 0 to 0 in about 15 years.
Don't think the new gen sniff glue.... it's laughing gas these days 🙄
I pick up the cylinders on the side of the road, some ally and some steel.

I would be happy if she got to 60, the length of time getting there wouldn't come into it
No change them
Massive 2min ad in the middle of this video about lesbian issues 🙄 can't see what that has to do with either you or me 😂👍🇮🇪
