Fact: Originally Saul Goodman was supposed to come as a cleaner after Jane's demise but since Bob Odenkirk had an earlier commitment for "How I met your mother", makers decides to introduced Jonathan Banks as Mike with literally not knowing the future of the character. It turned out to be the most loved character of breaking bad franchise.

  • @Boaz833

Its weird to think that Mike was not supposed to even be in this episode. Saul was supposed to come clean up but the actor had a scheduling conflict and Gilligan decided at the last minute to film this scene without him and hired Jonathan Banks for only this one scene. And one of the greatest TV characters was born!! Can you imagine the BB/BCS shows without Mike?!

The fact that we can see Walt turning from an emotional and empathic guy to someone without any second thoughts and just worrying about money, and Jesse turning from someone that just wants money and party to a sad and empathic man, that really hits hard.

@@sam-psonsmith9951 Pf course this chain of events exists in some way. Its the art of the show and I think the original comment above is kinda right what the teddy bear was meant for.
I understand your opinion but to me it is much more like Walter caused the events witout having any guilt. Its true that without him letting Jane die, the crash would not had happen, i didnt meant to say that thats not the case. But saying he is responsible is way too much, especially compared to Janes father.
Of course the 100 percent-thing was a bit over the top but in general what I said is right. You have a special form of responsibility in a position like that. Of course what Walt had done was far more "bad", but saying he is more guilty than Janes father is nothing but ridiculous. If you put it like that, Jane is also guilty because he choosed to take hard drugs in the first place. Whitout her doing that, Walt wouldnt be in the place to take the wrong choice to let her die and Janes father wouldnt be in the place to take the choiceto go to work and so on...

@Mister Sir wow... what an arrogant person I've just stumbled upon. seriously, what's up with you? you seem bitter for no reason. if you're not a kid you certainly type like one, telling someone you don't know that his opinion doesn't matter right before imposing your own. cringe top to bottom.
listen buddy, first of all, let me just say that I love Breaking Bad. there's a reason I'm here watching this channel, it's a lot of fun and the story has many twists and turns. so no need to hate on other people's opinions just because they don't consider your favorite tv show to be their favorite as well.
now I'm not some troll arguing with no basis here, I've been studying filmmaking for 4 years and it's no easy work. it takes a lot of craft pre-production, during production and in post-production to achieve excellence. I recently made a short film and it's currently in the process of post-production. it's called 'Downside from Leaving Home', and you're welcome to check it out once it's released, early may 2021 :)
the reason I tell you this is beacuse I understand what it takes to create something mediocre, something good and then something of excelent quality. I know what I'm talking about because I've gathered experience through the years and I have solid arguments to back up my opinions, which are obviously personal, just like yours, which are not absolute truths, like you seem to believe, judging the way you typed.
for example, your comment about dialogue comes off as just ignorant. using dialogue as a way to add information to the plot is important for something like literature, sure. but keep in mind that a film or a tv show is dealing with sound plus a moving image combined. if you can't tell a story or make a point through sound and image, and you have to add dialogue to compensate, then you're simply not as good at storytelling as a film or a tv show that is. and no, dialogue doesn't count as sound: sound is atmosphere, it's telling by ear what cannot be seen in the image. it's what you create outside of the frame, completing the picture.
so with a simple example like that, answer me this: what's so great about Breaking Bad's sound? beacuse it seems to me that every moment of anagnorisis in that tv show comes from a piece of dialogue, rather than visual storytelling and sound (Anagnorisis: an important piece of revelation that a character learns and causes him to develope his identity further, move the plot forward, or both).
if dialogue is your primary tool to develope a character or to advance the plot, then I might as well be reading a novel -and a pretty good novel not gonna lie; Breaking Bad is without a doubt great, but a novel none the less-. It's funny that this example alone makes Better Call Saul ten times better at storytelling than Breaking Bad already. and there you are talking about it not having a single fall off, lol.
also, have you even seen Mad Men, start to finish? and may I ask the same question for The Wire, start to finish?
it seems that you like to name your "arguments"; dialogue and plot, this and that and so on, but you never cared to elaborate on a single one of those points. I mean, according to you, what exactly is so great about dialogue in Breaking Bad that's better than, say, The Wire? what exactly is better cinematography than Mad Men's untouchable lighting and framing that actually serves a purpose to the plot, rather than just "to look cool"? what's so great about the color choice of Breaking Bad? under which parameters do you consider Breaking Bad a masterpiece, exactly? I mean, when can a work of art be considered a masterpiece and why? what's the standard? what's even your point of view on the concept of "masterpieces", and why Mad Men or The Wire cannot reach those standards?
I think there's so much lacking in your comment, I'm def open to debate, but you just came off as such an arrogant and seemingly ignorant person, that I'm not sure you can even defend your opinion at all.
so far none of the points you mentioned were explored enough to carry a solid opinion, so honestly, I can't take you seriously until they are. but like I said, I'm open to debate. art, after all, IS subjective.

@Mister Sir relax, kid, I didn't. my internet connection sucks, that's all.
Now allow me to reply to this:
"Go watch a TH-cam video on studying BBs shots"
lmaoooo so TH-cam is your source of information for filmmaking... seriously? what else, Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb, where even my 3 year-old brother can create an account and vote his favorite tv show too?
Please, do yourself a favor and read a couple of books that are actual knowledge sources on the subject matter, filled with theory and examples with high resolution pictures of film/tv show shots and descriptions, from literally the greatest classic, modern and post-modern authors of all time.
On film theory, both by Gilles Deleuze:
      -Cinema 1: The Movement-Image
      -Cinema 2: The Time-Image
      On cinematography:
-Cinematography: Theory and Practice, by Blaine Brown
-Every Frame a Rembrandt, by Andrew Laszlo
-Writing with Light, by Vittorio Storaro
-The Filmmaker's Eye: Learning and Breaking the Rules of Cinematic Composition, by Gustavo Mercado
There. hell, I can even send you amazon links by pm if you want lol. you have many to choose from, hopefully all 6 of them, but even just 1 would be enough. trust me, there isn't a single TH-cam video that can rival the amount of knowledge and information you get from these. and I assure you most of the videos you watch actually draw from and teach what's inside these books anyway.

  • @redblobdude
    @redblobdude 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I’m sorry, but it really bothers me when people say that Jane’s death was partially Jesse’s fault or even partially her own. It simply was not. Jane’s death is 100% on Walter.
Yes, Jesse was what made her relapse and fall back to drugs. Yes, drugs and addiction are real killers and result in countless tragedies every day. Yes, people should be responsible for their own actions, as Lola put it.
Yes, you can argue that in her condition, had she continued down the path she was on, she would have likely died eventually. These are all true statements. However nothing changes the fact that Walter is directly responsible for her death. He was the one who shook her into the position where she was lying on her back and choked on her own puke. It would be one thing if she had already rolled over prior to Walter’s arrival, but they made it a point to show us that she always takes the precaution to make sure both she and Jesse are laying on their sides. While she is still making the bad decision to put herself at risk in the first place, she recognizes that risk and does everything she knows to do in order to minimize it. It is a fact that if Walt had not visited, she would still be alive.
Imagine a scenario where I went skydiving every day, people would tell me I’m insane. It would be almost certain that one of these days, my parachute would fail and I would plummet to my death. In order to take precaution, I make sure to have a backup parachute every time I skydive. Though it’s still very stupid of me to skydive daily, I’m taking precaution to minimize my chance of dying. One day, Walter White comes to lecture me about my dumb decisions and, in his frustration, picks up my backpack and throws it at me. In doing so, he accidentally ruptures my backup parachute. Later that day, I go skydiving and it just so happens that that is the day my primary chute doesn’t open. Unbeknownst to me, I pull my backup, and end up plummeting to my death anyway. In this scenario, I don’t think anyone can say that my death was my own doing.
Jane was in a bad situation and that was definitely of her own making as well as Jesse’s, but her DEATH is 0% her fault, 0% Jesse’s fault, and 100% Walter’s fault.

We aren't focused on the question (we're laughing at Marie and Walt's fake smile) and neither is Walt, but the question is definitely there in the back of his mind. He wants to be Heisenberg but he doesn't want to face that fact yet.

I would also say you two keep talking about colors in the show. They do have meaning and the writers thought a lot of things through when hiding things like that. Tracing the plane crash back to one single event isn't that easy. Countless strings of events led to the crash. You could go all the way back to Hank offering to take Walt on a ride along, which is when Walt sees Jesse and starts going down his series path, and yet you'd still be able to go back to Walt getting cancer. The cancer wasn't anyone's fault, but that's what set off everything in this series

Too many people try to play this game to justify Walt's actions or blame other characters. The simplest answer is the most correct. The circumstances are the circumstances - once you start saying "But what if so-and-so did/didn't do this, etc." you can just go all the way back and say none of it would've happened if they were never born. But the simple answer in this case is that Walt was responsible for not saving Jane (regardless of what she did) - he had the opportunity to and chose to pass it up. Because of this, Jane's father made the mistake that led to the plane crash. Again, you could say "But maybe if the pilot was better, etc." but it just doesn't work that way, especially in a work of fiction where it's written for this outcome.

    • @johns6014
      @johns6014 3 ปีที่แล้ว

If you're ready to blame Walter for the plane crash, then you need to be ready to accept responsibility for the woman who was raped because you didn't run down her rapist when you passed him on the street, despite not knowing who he was, who she was, or what he would do to her.
The fault of the crash lies only with Jane's father for coming back to work in a tenuous field like air traffic control, along with his supervisor, for allowing him to return without making sure that he'd received clearance from a psychologist.
If you want to blame Walter for the plane crash, then you also need to blame Jane herself, for allowing herself to relapse, and then you need to blame Jesse for facilitating her relapse, and you would also need to blame her father, again, for waiting until the next day to take her to rehab. You also need to blame Saul, Gus, Walt's point of contact with Gus, Jesse's parents, Jesse's entourage, and even the woman who crushed her husbands head, because each of them knew enough about either Jesse or Walter to have led to Jesse being removed from Jane's life. For that matter, you also need to blame Skylar for marrying Walt and leaving him in the situation where he needed to come up with hundreds of thousands to provide for his family after he died, you need to blame Hank for acting as the lynchpin who got Walt involved in drug production, and for good measure, you also need to blame the entirety of Walt's, Jesse's, and Jane's lineages for existing, and thus causing those three people to exist in a time and place where their actions would somehow lead to a plane crash over Albuquerque New Mexico.
And yes, to come full circle and to further illustrate the point of how petty it is to blame either Walter, Jesse, or Jane for the plane crash, you would also need to blame every single individual who had the opportunity to run Walter and Jesse down in the street, to arrest them, to kill them, to do whatever they needed to do, in order to prevent them from allowing Jane to die, and thus prevent her father from allowing the planes to crash. For good measure, apply that to Jane's father as well.
Fortunately, culpability doesn't work by chasing down petty domino chains like this.
Jane's death lies entirely on Jane, herself, for taking the heroin in the first place, and on Walter for allowing her to die when he could have saved her. Jesse shares responsibility for her death, but as an accessory. To go further and to say that any of the three of them are responsible for the plane crash is nothing but pettiness, on the level of spreading the blame to everyone else as described above.
Moreover, Walter is the bad guy in her death, absolutely, but she was no innocent bystander, and if she had tried to pull what she had on anyone else in Walter's position by threatening him and his "enterprise", then she probably would have been lucky to just receive a shot to the back of the head. More than likely, however, her death wouldn't be quick, and Jesse probably would have been killed as well. Walter doesn't commit violence for the sake of violence, and up until this point, he's been slow to commit it at all unless it was immediately urgent. If she hadn't put herself in a position where she could die so easily, then he probably wouldn't have done anything to her. Gus, on the other hand, would have absolutely had all three killed if he ever learned that a junkie knew enough of about Walter to cow him into submission, because at that point, all three would be a liability to him

This is the acronym for the National Transportation Safety Board, the entity charged with investigating plane crashes in the US. But even if someone did happen to know this, there is so much else going on in that shot to distract you that this one real clue winds up pretty much hidden in plain sight.
