I have an i-fast and I disagree with many of your observations and conclusions. Filament feeding is not an issue. I agree it looks worrysome but its actually not as issue. The printer does not have to be sealed, is closed and actively heated so will maintain whatever internal temp you set it too. Print adhesion and bed leveling is an issue and they really need to write the firmware for the bed leveling that is built into the hardware. I'm doing some amazing things with my i-fast.
@DPT - I have been using one of these QIDI iFast printers for more than a year.
My own personal experience is the extreme opposite of yours, from the setup, leveling, first test prints, the dual extruder alignment, and printing complicated precise functional parts using both extruders. I know that "Major Hardware" also demonstrated printing problems. Maybe you guys got dud machines? But I don't know, when you were saying you can't adjust the temp on Extruder 2, towards the end of the video, and you didn't even select the extruder by pushing the icon on the right that shows a nozzle with the number 2, but kept trying to select by pressing the temp display under extruder one... Maybe you really have a corrupted firmware? QIDI has been very responsive to all questions, you might want to try getting in touch with them.
In any case, Clough42's and ModBot reviews speak for themselves, good that you put the links.
One guy who demonstrates extensively what the iFast can do, and shows many important, simple improvement mods is TH-cam channel "Meliorate with Nate" , maybe you could put a link to him also?
you forgot the bowden tube from the filament to the head. you need dry the nylon at least 8h before printing. and they suggest glue or magicglue etc...
Life is beautiful, that printer obviously is not. But keep that positive attitude. You make the best analyses of the designs. Sometimes a bit hurried but still the best. You should stick to that road...
Hey mate, you've turned on single extruder head mode, not high temp extruder mode, so that's why you're seeing only one extruder heat up.
But why does a $2200 machine have a setting for a single extruder when there isn't a single extruder for this machine in the box or for sale? For this kind of money, the user experience should be flawless.

Don't you think that it should NOT be part of the default firmware? If you are a rare customer that has the single nozzle, you can contact QIDI and ask them for the special single nozzle firmware. Everything about this printer is wrong. Every. Single. Detail. That's why I completely lost interest in even trying to get it to work. The customer is not supposed to solve this many problems. Especially when it's such an expensive printer. I hope nobody buys this thing. I don't think anybody will be happy with it.

During the Covid debacle lockdowns, I invested and updated my 3d printers. I was right on the edge of buying Qidi. I didn't because of the very poor looking heat break cooling. I followed the FB forum for a while, and let me tell you, I am so glad I dodged that bullet. Seemed like a big specification stack for the money but definitely a NO GO. Did you know the earlier printer had one hot end that could not be taken appart and unclogged, had to be replaced! I ended up with Ender 6 printers and I'm so glad I did. Next move is to Vorons Tridents.
You dodged a bullet. During Covid I bought an Xmax to produce face shield frames on and use for some of my larger prototypes. I had so many problems with heat creep and their poor extruder design, it was ridiculous to say the least. After going back and forth with Qidi, they sent me a replacement extruder assembly that had some updates made to it. It worked for about 3 weeks, and began having the same under extrusion and clogging issues as before. Around the same time, the mother board went out on the Xmax and I had to get a new one to replace it. It never worked right after doing all of that, so I gave up on it and it has been sitting in my basement since late 2020. I have thought about upgrading it time and time again with a new extruder and converting it to a different mother board, but for the cost I could probably get another printer that is built better or invest in a Voron.
I love the quality of your thorough critiques. If I had a product to market, it's the sort of feedback I'd actually pay for.
Best vid ive found by far. Im in the same boat i want a sub 3k printer that i can actually make usuable parts with Im not interested in making cosplay costumes...and no one seems to adress that market and its really dissapointing.
Nylon needs some type of adhesive when printing on PC and PEI. It also absorbs alot of water so you have to dry it before you print and prefferably print directly out of a filament drier.
If you do a followup video, try doing ABS and ASA.
Your words are fair and true but I will not be doing a follow up video. I don't want to struggle to make this printer work. In my judgement every single detail about it is sub-par and even if I could achieve good enough results I would rather spend my time doing other things. Looking over this printer and finding so many faults and nothing to love I am filled with no joy when working with it. I never want to touch it again. I wish I had not agreed to review this printer and I find it *highly* unlikely that I will ever review another Qidi product. I acknowledge that I cannot overcome my negative emotions regarding this printer which means I am not impartial in my judgement. My emotions prevented me from exploring the positive aspects of the printer. This is why I linked to the videos which talked about the printer in a more positive light. I was attempting to provide balance.

Seems like most of the problems can be fixed with a better firmware, there is a higher probability of that firmware comming from the community than it is from Qidi. I have 2 Qidi printers, Tech I or Tech II models from 2015, the printer sucks but it sucks in some strange ways that make it a very capable ABS/HIPS printer. I have about 30k print hours between the two printers, I still use them because for my business I need a very specific print out of ABS/HIPS and the print keeps failing on my voron 2.4 so I have to keep using those antiquated printers.

Ask for the last firmware to have baby-z option. And add a bowden tube on printhead to act as a strain relief for filament so no breakig problem. Z height is a nightmare on those machine if you change often filament type because of thermal expansion is an issue. Otherwise good ABS and ASA print without crack. Wifi file transfer suck because often it corrupt the file. You can disable the sound. You can have a superslicer profile provided with them but tuning is not perfect. I have two of those. Does the job but expectation was higher. Customer support is responsive but I can't say efficient.

This is a continuation of their Avatar IV's from years ago that we're MakerBot Replicator clones with two hotend. But the Avatar was a pain in the ass because you could never get both nozzles at the same level. So lifting a nozzle up out of the way for them is a natural progression. I have four of those Avatars.
Starting to get some really good results from Carbon Fibre impregnated ASA. Far stiff and strong and fa fleas plastic deformation than CF Nylons. Definitely worth looking at if you are after some higher performance materials printable in an un-heated chamber

You've caused my channel unquantifiable damage through your constant ad hominem attacks on TH-cam, Reddit, and other internet forums. You do this because you need me to be your enemy so you can feel confident in your group identity as Prusa fanboys. I'm not your enemy. Please stop trying to hurt me. Nowhere in the video did I even insinuate that this printer is better than a Prusa. It's not. I would gladly trade this one for an I3. I pointed out that the Prusa I3 Mk.3 is an over priced printer but it only costs 1/3 as much as this terrible printer. Thus putting into perspective just how overpriced the Qidi is.

It's important to listen carefully to what others are saying and to try to understand their perspective, in my perspective when you showed the prusa is sounded like you were saying the qidi is way better than this. It's never okay to make assumptions about someone or to speak negatively about them without considering the facts, you made assumptions that i was a prusa fan boy or that i used reddit when i havent ever used reddit. It sounds like you've been through a lot of difficult experiences, and I hope that you are able to find some support and understanding from those around you. im not trying to bash but you do bring this upon yourself, usually

Thank you for this well done video. I bought one end of last year and became very frustrated very soon. This printer has a lot of good concepts, but it seems, half way they have decided to replace some components with junk. The customer service was quick but not really helpful, either. Anyway, I decided to use the nice housing and sturdy frame and built a new printer from scratch. It's working now as I would have imagined, but, boy, that was an expensive experience.

NAH, everything must be in balance, you can't just make the engineers printer for engineers at "whatever" the cost or you won't sell enough. I am an engineer who must also be a businessman.
Unless you sell to large corporations or governments, for example, like Rohde & Schwarz, which is in the engineering dictionary next to "Buy once, cry never"...

@@retromodernart4426 I did see the other videos and it does seem to work sometimes, so I would call this another case of missing QC.
a lot of the issues are to do with the firmware and DPT did say it may have already been fixed in later versions.

Hey, I am unable to click the bell icon on your channel, so I cannot get notifications. On the mobile app, it tells me "This request contains an invalid argument". On desktop, it doesn't give any error, the bell icon just stays teh same with a line through it.
I would like for you to geek out on raise3d printers.
High performance materials often are very hygroscopic and need to be in a humidity controled box. Not outside on a cheap spool holder exposed to ambient air... Big shortcoming in my opinion.
They are now selling on their website the "Qidi filament dryer box" for $59 each, which can be fitted instead of a bare reel. I think the may be shipping the latest machines with these?
edit: At 17:00 he shows the new container for $79 on Amazon it's $59 on their own website.
@@evropapagan5551 I bought my i fast a few weeks ago and it comes with sealed spool containers with place for desiccant inside.

Looks like the hardware, particularly the frame, could make for a good project printer, but the price basically slams the door in the face of that idea. Yikes!

While not actively heated ( other than the bed) will ouperfor this quidy for half of the money.
Also the AMS would compare in capability on the dual nozzle (different concept, and slower) same functionality.
If quidy deserves mention for throwing this bodge together, im gessing bambù deserves the Oscar equivalent to the consumer 3d printer market.
(All being said, he x1 is far from perfect, veeeeeeery far from perfect) but at least works out of the box.
The x1 is not suitable at all for what he's talking about you NEED an actively heated chamber to be consistent with these materials. The X1C is still an over priced toy it's not an industrial printer.

Jesus what a bunch of weird design choices. It could've been an amazing machine. But thin PC windows are not good either for durability nor for insulation. Twin extruders? The heck? And I'm still scratching my head over that WEIRD linear rail looking thing over the x gantry, are they using a linear rail as a stiffener? What a stupidly designed machine
Didn't work for him (and apparently "Major Hardware"), works just fine for me in single and dual extruder mode, low and high temp materials, and the guys he linked in the description sure seemed to get satisfying results.
I think DPT might have gotten a dud, at least in the firmware, and didn't help himself by using some noname cheap filament that he made no mention whatsoever of even attempting to dry before printing, while not being able to set the printer up properly due to at least the configuration problems he showed (which may be from bad firmware and/or not being familiar with using the user interface).

The nozzle 2 temperature setting looks like it parsed an octal value first of all when you keyed 0200 (128 decimal). When you keyed 200 it was correctly interpreted as 200 decimal.
it makes me sad that qidi has printers that are so expensive. this printer along with all of their lineup is nothing less then rock bottom parts assembled in a pretty package that obviously lacks any functionality. I've got an X-CF i got as a "tool" to assist in jigs for machining as well as other high temp high abuse plastic components. Long story short i got a flsun sr, heated the chamber and its 10x better.
Also you don't need very good insulation as long as the heating capability is higher than the heat loss through gaps and filters.
You can barely pass the mark that way, but as any house builder would tell you nothing's better than good insulation. Drafts can and will wreck your day given the chance, specially with engineering plastics

There is a lot of competition for print farms and there's not very many products which are viable so it's a competitive game to get into and I'm urging caution." I'm looking out for my viewers so that they don't waste a bunch of money to buy printers that will never return the investment capital. You are trying to make me into the bad guy for saying it. What's wrong with you?
Then you disagreed with my statement that most printers purchased get put in the closest and rarely used. Prusa claims to sell 9k printers per month. Creality sells 2 to 4 times that many so 30k to 50k printers are being sold worldwide every month. If these printers are being used constantly like you imply then how is there any need for print farms. Everyone can just print for themselves. You contradict yourself.
It's seems to me like you are here in bad faith. You just want to tell me I'm wrong from every angle. There isn't consistency in your arguement except that everything you said was meant to disparage me.
