Great video. You raise many great points. Obviously I'm here because I'm having these intermittent problems. Despite all these irritations, we still LOVE our Harleys!
My Fatboy used to cut off riding down the road ...I kept a can of contact cleaner in my bags...I would remove the single nut on speed odemeter/ignition switch cover ,spray the contacts and like magic, back riding ..I think Harley Davidson only put one but on there for that reason..Please try this before buying ANYTHING....It is a common problem ..It is not liquid sealed so water or condensation can tarnish the contacts
A lot of the time it's just a matter of taking off the ignition switch and it has three prongs, and often times when you have no headlights or anything, it's just a corrosive build up on one of the contact prongs itself, just clean it, put some alcohol and a q-tip, on it and reconnect the three wires and re-install it on top of the fuel tank and turn your bike on and hit the road for a great ride. Simple. Save the dough and hundreds of dollars from the "stealership".
I have a 2006 superglide with my ignition switch on the dash, the problem I’m having is the key cylinder comes out with the key so I can’t ever lock it, do I need to replace the ignition switch and fork lock ? What holds the cylinder in ?
Great video. I'm having the the same problem on my FXR4 I installed a brand new battery recently as well as a new alternator and Ignition module. And after that the switch started acting up. After I wiggle the key back and forth it lights up my instruments and headlight goes on and no problems after till I shut it off. Hope you can help.
93 ultra replace bad relay to start bike, but now when i turn ignition on the bike starts , kill switch off, and, not hitting start button help just fires up
I have a 95 fxdwg , the ignition switch was removed and I dropped some tiny brass pins with springs on them , I believe they came out of the switch knob ?so im looking for a print that shows the break down of the switch ,any thoughts where on line I might find this

I would say first step after checking the battery connection is to check the fuses and then move onto components.

My lights all come on, but bike won’t turn over. Battery shows to be charged. Not sure what it could be.
