    Hey guys my apologies I totally forgot about this video. The problem was the ignition coil. I ordered a new one and she started right up. The coil that failed ended up being cracked and was the original from 1998 when the bike was built.

      Wen that happen did it also kill ur fuel pump

      There is no fuel pump on a 98' Softail

    Glad you posted this cause thats what mine has been doing last couple days and ive replaced all but the breakers. And i never would have thought those would be it

    I had this same problem 2 days ago on my 98 fatboy. Your video is an exact of what happened to me. Luckily I had a friend with a van and a ramp !

    My 98 fxstc does the same thing. Running about 70mph for awhile it just shuts down, I pull over let it sit for a few minutes it starts right up and off I go riding for the rest of the day. Go figure!

    What always bugs me is that even when the coil fails, i wonder how it can provide enough to make that initial combustion 'pop' when cranking (like it did at the stop light).

    Reminds me when I was a kid I had like a 71 Honda, SL 100 that thing broke down more often than any thing I ever had. I think I pushed it more than I rode it.

    My 99 has no power to ignition. Battery is at 12.9. Coil I get wacky readings or none at 2 ohms. Coil ordered. Will update.

      did you get it going? I have a 88 FXST it starts.. warms up dies. Then wont start.. first crank it acts like it wants to.. i'm getting variable ohm readings on my coil too. Gonna just get a new coil. I'll update! Thanks.

    I had the same issue on my 93 Softail Heritage... I replaced the ignition switch and dropped a new battery... Problem solved....Your bike is a beauty...

      Hm, ignition switch and battery? I find it so odd that we all have had the same bike & same issue, just dying mid ride but all have different fixes. The part that's driving me nuts is that I've done everything that everyone that commented has done to fix their bike but mine is still not running 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️💁🏽‍♂️💁🏽‍♂️

      Hello, what was you ignition switch doing that made you replace it? I have a 98 Heritage and not getting power to the coil from the two coil lead main wires. I have power from the ignition switch wire harness when I remove it from the ignition switch but get no power when it's plugged in and I test if for power connected behind the wire connector. Should it be 12 volts also when connected to the ignition switch? Please share your experience . Going crazy and don't want to take it to the shop. Help anybody! Thanks.

      Change your main breaker firm a 30 to. 50

    My bike (sportster 2003) did the same thing...but put the ignition switch on and off and on again and the bike start !?? The problem is the ignition switch ? How do I know ? Battery, coil, spark plug, carburator is clean...

    I've replaced every electronic component on my bike following the manual 100% the last part being the turn signal control module. I've rewired the right hand switches. I had an extension kit on it and though maybe the wires were shorting. Then I replaced every wore with one solid wire so that there's no break or interruption anywhere in the lines. And I didn't run the wires back through the bars yet either and nothing. I have 40k on her and brought her from my father in law. Who fucking took better care of it than he did his marriage. I also traced every wore to the best of my ability. At this point it was to be sone stupid tiny thing. I was sure replacing the turn signal security module would do it.

    My 96 Heritage died EXACTLY how this one did. I've changed plugs, coil, starter relay, rebuilt the carb and various other shit and she's still not starting. Wtf?

      Having the same issue with my 98' Heritage. Coil, fuses, carb all check out. I have heard it can be the ignition switch. Did you ever fix the problem?

      Jay Kayak: I am going through the EXACT same thing as you on my 97 Softail Custom. I have replaced the coil, plugs, wires, batteries, carb, and it just cranks. However, I replaced the 30 amp main breaker and it started immediately. It started a few times but then died again and would no longer start. So I put a third main breaker in and it started immediately. There has to be an issue that is causing the circuit to overload. I think it could be either the cam sensor, voltage regulator, stator, or ignition switch. Let me know what you find out.

      @@eaytc6968 yeah it did a while back when. That circuit breaker went out I corrected it by using a 50 amp. A guy in my forums told me that . I'm currently waiting to order a new ignition switch. That's the LAST electrical component there is

      Yeah if your not careful the wore from the voltage regulator can touch the other connections in the main amp then touch the frame a cause it to ground out so I got blk conduit and ziotied. Looks super clean... Sitting here in my shed next to me for the 2nd season I've missed

    I pulled into a parking lot backed into a spot while idling and my 2001 Springer Softail just stopped running. It has power everything seems fine except it will not turn over. Nothing nada

    Did the bike also seem to turn over faster? About 2 weeks ago my 96 H-D dyna wideglide died in the same manner was going down the highway and it just cut out. While waiting 3 hrs for someone to come with a trailer i tinkeres with it a little trying to determine the problem. I put my finger in the spark plug boot,grounded myself to the bike and turned it over, and nothing. Coil has power to it but isnt firing so im thinking the coil is shot. Only thing that gets me is that the bike is also turning over faster than normal. ill be doing a compresson test tomarrow at work to double check that theres no issue in the cylinder. But i dont get why it the coil going out would cause it to turn over faster than normal. Turning it over with my hand covering the exaust it still sucks and pushes my hand. Was just wondering if you noticed the same thing at all?

      Dude exact same problem I'm dealing with Right now. I've replaced plugs, coil, starter relay, cam position sensor, and more. I have a brand new battery in it and everything. Did you figure it out?

      MY H-D DID THE SAME THING, LAST WEEK, IT'LL START AND RUN ON ETHER. HAD CODE #44 IN IT

      I just didn't have no ignition anymore. I had to replace the crankshaft-sensor and the coil. Everything in total 500 bucks to get it started again :-/ And I have a 99 RK, so I don't get any codes :-)

      DO YOU HAVE AN ECM, I CAN GET CODES BY TURNING ING. SWITCH ON FOR ABOUT 3 SEC., TURN OFF FOR 3 SEC., TURN ING. SWITCH BACK ON, WAIT ABOUT EIGHT SEC. FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO START FLASHING

      I SHOT SOME STARTING FLUID IN, BIKE WOULD RUN, TOOK PUMP BACK OUT , FUEL LINE FROM THE FILTER TO THE CHECK VALVE BLEW ( BRAND NEW ), ORDERED NEW ONE FROM HARLEY

      On a 99 RK with carburator, you don't get any codes ;-) I even don't have an alarm... Just basic basis...

      Yeo I've replaced every single electrobi5 component in my 96. Change your main breaker from a 30 to a 50 and check your jgn switch.

      Didn't help with me. Coil was broken because of short circuit... Had to replace the coil and the krankshaftsensor.
