  • Harley Davidson Touring Ignition Switch Alignment Tip-Trick. In this short video I thought I'd help someone save money on an ignition switch housing motorcycle alignment tool by simply using a flat head screw driver. If you've worked on your bike and took the ignition switch off then you may or may not have came across the alignment issue. #ignition

    I bookmarked this clip because I figured I'd need it one day. Yesterday WAS that day. Got it realigned and back on the road in seconds. I really love clips that are straight-forward and to the point. (Let's face it - someone who needs more detail probably shouldn't be popping this apart). Thanks!!!

    Nice!!! I wish I would have known this back in October. Mine got out of alignment after using my fork lock at Biketoberfest. Sitting in the sun at the speedway for hours just switching on and off praying. Finally got the ignition to work and pulled my main fuse every time I stoped on the ride back home. Good stuff!

    • @SinisterClutch

    I've changed a lot of handlebars on friends touring bikes and this was the first time I got the ignition out of alignment and I knew there was a special tool AND I didn't want to make a trip to the city to spend too much for it...but luckily Google put your video at the top!

    You can do it with a driver yes, however it only reaches that mid clicker. I had an issue where the cover popped off , then the steering lock got stuck on. I managed to unlock the steering , with a screw driver, but the clicker wasn't functioning, ( either mis aligned , or shaft not engaging in keyway)..and the cover was just free sliding left to right. So on closer inspection , seen that the shaft is a bit worn and wobbly. I took it to dealer to get it all put rite, then 3 hours later I'm stuck again. So after some wiggling around, it come good again. I'm putting it down to excessive wear, so just going to renew the complete ignition. This is my first Harley ..a 2015 streetglide, but I'm not new to bikes. It's looking like once their worn they just fault , so better to renew the whole thing. I'm thinking the loose shaft , plus that little grove where the ignition cover assy pops into is either not holding due to wear, hence why it's popping off when it's turned to the right too much. So in my case, ..a replacement is due. You can use a flat blade screwdriver , however I'd be very careful not to damage anything internal that would cause problems with the keyway not engaging correctly. I think my bike has maybe had an issue in the past and this is why it's having issues now. ( SHINY VP ADELAIDE CHAPTER EASYRIDERS)👍

    My ignition switch comes out of time when I turn it to the lock position for some reason. It don’t always happen. Just every now and then I turn in the lock position and lock it . Go do whatever I’ve planned to do. Come back unlock the steering and put it on start and nothing happens. Someone I can turn it back to lock and then back to start and it will run but sometimes it won’t. I’ve bought a alignment tool to keep in the tour pack for when it doesn’t start but it a headache having to even worry about it. I’ve tried everything in my manual. It’s easy to line up with the tool . Usually I end up leaving the tool in the ignition and using it to get home

    HD has quite a few problems that they won’t address such as the fork lock assembly getting out of alignment, preventing the operator from unlocking the steering mechanism. A dealership will more than likely say it’s the owners fault. It’s an ongoing issue that has no real fix other than buying and installing a new lock assembly from HD. An alignment tool is handy, but after a while the problem will just get worse and you may end up not being able to get the lock stem out at all and that’s a real problem if you’re out and about and don’t carry tools with you.

      Great info sir! HD never wants to admit to faulty designs and yes you always have to have tools with you but in this case you’re definitely screwed if you’re out on a ride.

    My ignition popped out yesterday and I turned the handlebars and now the fork is locked. Will this hack still work?

    • @SinisterClutch
      @SinisterClutch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it will. The tumblers need alignment. When it popped out it had to be in the lock fork position even though the handlebars are straight or to the right. As soon as you turned to the left it would lock every time. Hope this helps🤙

    If the knob was installed when the switch was out of line and now you can't remove it. Any ideas how to get it out?

    • @SinisterClutch
      @SinisterClutch  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah patience and a lot of wiggling. I had that happen once not realizing it and it took time and cussing until I wiggled it out.

    • @Joecasci
      @Joecasci หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SinisterClutch I hope so. I'm already into the cussing stage. I'm getting a steady drain on my battery I'm suspecting that something is not shutting down in the switch because it was installed wrong.
