I mod a discord server for Baldur's Gate 3 and one of the folks in there was struggling hardcore with her game crashing. We managed to isolate the issue to the game crashing due to running out of memory, since she runs discord and a couple of chrome tabs while she plays. She's completely new to PC gaming, so I of course went to look up if it was possible to upgrade her laptop. Your video was the first result, and I was so thankful for that! Now she will have an easier time running her game. Thank you for putting this video out, it was super helpful!

Excellent video. I plan on doing this in a few months - I just got my ASUS ROG Strix G17 last week so I need to save some money for a bit to be able to upgrade the ram and NVME - I want to throw in 32GB (not I believe there is no XMP on the ASUS, so it needs JEDEC spec ram to get the rated speed), and a 1TB Samsung NVMe, the stock is an Intel that reads at 2200-2400 MBps. .

Greetings! I found your video quite informative, and the process seems remarkably straightforward. I currently own an Asus Rog Strix G513qm gaming laptop equipped with a 1 TB hard drive and 16 GB of RAM, using a conventional hard drive. To prepare for the installation and smooth gameplay of Starfield, I'm considering upgrading to an SSD. My primary query is whether I can augment my existing setup by adding an SSD alongside the current hard drive, or if I should replace the hard drive entirely with an SSD. Additionally, I'm interested in your recommendations for upgrading the laptop's RAM. Your insights on both matters would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the power's off before you add or swap the SSD/RAM, make damn sure they seat and click properly before touching that power button.

Hi Ryan, I have an ASUS ROG Strix G713RM-KH011W and some time ago I installed 2x16GB of RAM but due to a motherboard problem the notebook crashed. Fortunately ASUS recognized the problem under warranty and fixed it for me also because, apparently, the problem was the motherboard contacts.
The question is this... using a tool (CPU-Z) and checking on the internet, my ROG supports up to 64GB of RAM (2x32) and I would like to mount CRUCIAL but my ROG model (G17RM) doesn't exist on the site.
What do you think about it? Can I try to mount any CRUCIAL DDR5 RAM again?
As for the SSD, I currently have the original 1TB. Can I add a 2TB or larger SSD, or does it have to be a 1TB SSD?
    Thank you, see you soon.

awesome. thank you for sharing! I have the 2023 g17 - g731PV with AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX and Nvidia RTX 4060 @8gbGDDR6. Current RAM is 16 GB DDR5 @4800Mhz and storage is 1tb SSD. I checked Asus's website and it is unclear to me what the upgrade capacity is... but I read online that my laptop has a 32gb cap for RAM. Plus, I cannot find anything on the RAM frequency capacity. also, I cannot find capacity for the second M.2 SSD drive. hoping to upgrade RAM to 64gb ddr5 @6000Mhz and the second SSD to be 4TB evo or equivalent.

Upgraded to 64 GB on the 2022 model and worked flawlessly. It's 5600 RAM but it only runs at 4800 despite having standard SPD info and all. I guess this laptop doesn't support 5600. Don't pay a premium for the faster RAM unless you're wanting to resell the RAM later or betting on BIOS updated somewhere in the future that somehow enabled faster RAM for this device.
Storage sizes should have no practical limits anymore, unless you're going in for industrial sizes and specialized equipment. All standard sizes of NVMe should work.

I am in strong need of MUCH more RAM!! I have the Asus GX701GVR-EV002T with 16Gb on board + 16Gb SO-DIMM that I use for CAD designing. ASUS specifies that the max total ram is 32GB. But would like to upgrade to 46Gb or more. There are rumors that this model can actually also supports a 32Gb SO-DIMM or more??

Have installed 64 GB DDR 5 so dimm Kingston Fury. 2x32GB.
Works flawlessly. Confirmed. Hogwarts Legacy running NB, using 28 of it.
Never trust support documents for maximum ram numbers. RAM will probably work to the maximum.
I didn't see a chance to enable higher RAM MHz, so higher than 4800 is probably a waste. Used 5600 and it runs at 4800 only. Price difference with shipping and exchange is too low to change it, but if you're buying new, compare these two speeds for a little bargain.

After upgrading my RAM from 16GB to 64GB, I've noticed that my CPU is throttling and my computer overheats during gaming. I believe that upgrading to 64GB might be excessive since it's unlikely to utilize more than 30GB before my computer overheats and potentially shuts down.
I bought my ram from crucial and matched the speed to the ram I had previously. Used their inbuilt scanner to find compatible ram and ssd. Also, whats interesting is now that I have upgraded my ram their scanner doesn't work anymore. Almost as if to say - we already got what we wanted from you and made you buy from us - sayonara now.

Choosing an NVMe for storage sizes only is probably a suboptimal choice, cost wise. 2 TB high end is not much more expensive than 2 TB low speed. The laptop comes with a rather slow system drive and upgrading that makes a good difference.
Think about reselling the 512 GB to make up for the cost difference between slow and fast 2TB, you'll have much more bang for the same buck.
