Yup definitely! You'll risk shorting out the motherboard if you don't.

(1) A bit disappointed you didn't upgrade the nVME. I wanted to see that because it sure looks like a tight spot with the AX211 Intel card underneath.
(2) I've read online posts that only certain wifi cards will be compatible with this M.2 port due to the system supporting CNVio2 protocol. Could you swap the Intel wifi card with the better Acer Helios one and see if it shows up in Windows? We need to know if Asus has bios whitelisted/prevented wifi card upgrade.
(3) The mobile HX Intel CPU is basically a repackaged desktop CPU of that generation but with power lowered to 55W. In case of CPU degradation/BSOD, can the CPU be swapped out as long as it is FCBGA1964 socket? This is something all 13/14 Intel cpu owners must start thinking about now. Maybe a downgrade to 12th gen i9 HX if compatible.
@Ash_G No, I just added a second but better nvme drive, but left the stock one alone for now.
@Ash_G I did swap the stock ASUS intel wifi with my Killer
AX1650 WIFI 6 module and it worked no problem. Just fyi
@Ash_G I mean, technically, all these laptop type CPUs are all integrated into the motherboard, but with the right tools to de-solder and re-ball, someone could downgrade the cpu. However despite intels fuck ups and short comings I have had no cpu related issues with this 13980HX. I believe that is mostly the desktop variants and not mobile.
@@SerpentXTech It's good to know about the successful wifi card swap. I will do a search on the specs of the AX1650. Sometimes, the Wifi/Bluetooth dies just like that in year 5 or 7 of ownership. So, knowing that you can replace them with an old backup card is peace of mind. I will have to ask Asus themselves if they have a Bios whitelist because the less Intel in my life, the better.

is it true this can run 2 x 16gb at 5600mhz anything over 32gb is downclocked to 5200mhz though ?
@Dragonborn2262 32gb is fine, but anything higher doesn't work. You may be able to run 5600 Mhz now, as quite a few Bios updates have been released since the video.

I have an Asus Rog strix g16-G614JV (2023), currently I have 1TB of storage and 16Gb RAM ddr5, I would like to add a 1TB SSD and 32Gb RAM DDR5 4800 MHz without losing the warranty, is it possible to bring these upgrades myself like in the video ?
Yes, your not breaking any seals just adding another ssd and replacing memory. If you ever needed to do a warranty repair, just take out your memory and new SSD before you send it in. Putting the stock components back in

It's with spec, high of 88c on stock drive, and 78c on secondary, but only under constant loads, which is not common or 24/7. Pictures posted on my Twitter for you.

Did you have to do anything on the software side or during boot when changing the ram? I tried to install 64gbs ddr5 SODIMM 4800mhz and the screen won't boot up. RGB is on but nothing else. not sure if it is the fact im using 64gbs or if I did something wrong on the software side.
@ColbySawyer-y4b shouldn't be anything software related. The max supported is 32gb so try taking out one stick

How's the ssd doing above the WiFi card? Thinking to throw in a 4tb Kingston drive. Ain't here already a xmp profile I can't find it. Want tonoverlcock the stock memory if possible
You can't overclock stock memory, but with bios update, I was able to run the new memory at 5200 mhz. The ssd is doing good, but it is not a high-end nvme Gen 4 or Gen 5 drive. Thermals are good on ssd, but I can't see the wifi card thermals. However, wifi 6 speeds are not as fast as my older laptop with the wifi6 module. Average 650 Mbps, vs. the 800+ Mbps on old laptop. Sometimes, it drops to only 250 Mbps, but it could be other network factors instead.

Bought myself a wd Sn850 2tb drive but the interface speed isn't showing up in the wd dashboard or Crystal disk info the transfer speed is just blank. You have any idea how to get gen4 working. I do get 6900mb/s sequential but end is 430 q32t1 and q1t1 is between 50 and 90.

How much faster is 5200 over 4800?
Well, 400 Mhz, but is there a huge performance difference, not as much, maybe a 2% bump. But the main benefit was upgrading from 16 GB to 32 Gb of memory. However, I saw the 5200 was cheaper than the 4800 with decent speeds, so I grabbed it.

I had this issue. Somehow it started working fine after running windows memory diagnostic. Took about 20 minutes but after it booted back up there were no more issues.

The main board, is capped at 32 GB max.
@sonyal9696 I'm pretty sure that is what the laptop comes with, but it could be AX200, which is one down from the killer AX1650 that I have now. So more like a side grade rather then upgrade. But yes it would work, just compare the before and after wireless speeds before you make you decisions if you already have the adspter
I got mine in yesterday and I installed the second ssd but it doesnt show up on my library. It shows in device manager under disk drives. Any ideas on how to get it to show in my library? So I can install games on it???
Right click the start menu or hit Windows key, to go to Disk Management.
Then you should be prompted with a pop up window to provision drive. Just use the default options and assign the drive a name and letter.

Yea gpt to update the firmware. When you are booted up look for "My Asus" a baby blue or tealish icon with a lil white, or you can go to the support page and find the firmware updates. However, I wonder if your memory is not supported, on the QVL list. It just took some updates for mine to work

The laptop has an SSD. But whether or not depends on the model NVME drive you have. The faster it is the morr heat you produce. So try to keep the heatsink on, if it will fit

Not a big one, not much clearance unless you plan on cutting a hole in the bottom of the laptop chassis cover
