  • Assembling the carb on a Honda GVC 160 in the right order. There should be a gasket on the engine side. In my case and many cases, the gasket is stuck to the engine.

Just helped me solve my Saturday issue, somehow the choke got stuck in an odd position and after removing to clean carb n try to figure it out I still couldn’t get it to run right. My mower is a newer version with a different choke linkage so it was confusing to see where it went, your vid showed me n helped me get it back together n running good now. Thank you!

I took my carburetor out and cleaned it. All gaskets fell out. Input them back in. After the 3rd time I got it to run. Still ain't running right. Now that I have your video in the correct order I need to check again if I missed something. Thanks again for the video. New subscriber here from Philadelphia PA.

On the carb check the line screw on top. Under is a super fine jet. Needs to be checked. Use a wire brush stand to clean it. Good luck.

I plan to use this video to reassemble it all, myself, after work today. Everything looked clean and the gaskets look fine
(the mower is only 15 months old) but it was surging a little. I think it was some old gas in the line. I had filled it with new gas and was waiting for it to cycle through to see if it stopped the surging problem.

Put a 3/16" dowel rod in the threaded holes on the engine block as you remove the studs to hold gaskets in their proper order.
When you re-assemble pull one dowel rod out then insert a stud and thread loosely then do the same for the other side and then tighten studs as needed.

I got sick and tired of that damned carburetor shroud. It's absolutely useless and just restricts your access to the carb. The outer part obviously is needed to hold the air cleaner on but the rest of it is just a Honda CYA thing to cover the gasoline holding carb that might get hit by a stone that sees the mower coming and jumps up out of the way and smashes into it.
I took my trusty Dremel with cutoff wheel to it. Amazingly, the carburetor hasn't even exploded yet ... but it's only been 10 years.

I do same but with an M6 threaded stud bolt … thread the stud bolts in … add each successive gasket etc… then holding the housing firmly in place, un screw and remove the stud bolt and replace with the bolt … makes life much easier

I guess nobody at honda has ever mowed a lawn. Who would have thought that a mower would kick up a bunch of dust that will clog the air passages in the carb if you use unfiltered air? Using bolts instead of studs for the carb mounting makes something that should be easy much more difficult. Honda made this engine to be cheap, not reliable. Great vid, I'm sure this has saved a lot of people a bunch of trouble.

An excellent video and one I’ve been looking for. I have a Honda engine that will need to have the carburetor cleaned. I think yours is the only one in which you show the sequence of putting on the gaskets during reassembly. If you could review the attachment of the governor spring and the choke or accelerator wire I would be grateful. Also a review of the gasket sequence would be much appreciated. Thank you!

very good tutorial on how to reassemble the Honda intake assembly for the carburetor, the only thing that I would caution people on Is an impact driver ( better to take a few minutes longer in hand tighten those bolts) on those bolts that hold the carburetor assembly together, those impact guns are very powerful, and they will pull the threads out of that aluminum block. Just ask me, I'll tell you how to re-thread those bad boys.. lol
the gasket installation procedures kind of easy if you sit and think about it for just a minute. All your trying to do is create a seal in between 2 objects, and other words you will take the gasket material put it for example :between the metal bracket, and the housing for the air cleaner. And you would repeat the procedure for every place that one thing meets another. The gasket material going between those places. So obviously after you finish putting the bracket on, you want to put gasket material between the metal bracket, or metal spacer, and then the carburetor, and then between the carburetor, and the heat separator, and so on. As I said before excellent video, carry-on keep up the good work my friend. Thank you.

I hope mines together! Your video was easy to follow! Thank you! My Honda is a HRR216VKA. It’s almost the same! My biggest question is how did you keep the bolts in place? I used this time some electrical tape. Those bolts are a real pain! Guess they want people to take it in the shop which most either don’t have a truck or who has that kind of money! I’m a senior citizen in my mid 60s and a mom of 2 adult children, I’m a female who doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty! Hello, my greetings, what an excellent video, thank you for all your videos that are really excellent and of great help to everyone. I have a Honda TB 130 XP but it does not stop throwing white smoke and some oil from the exhaust. It has power so I do not rule out that it is the rings, but I have heard that it could be the poorly calibrated carburetor that produces smoke on my lawnmower, meaning that the needle is too high and the gasoline goes to the crankcases making the oil rise. Question: could this be true? I do not know what to do to repair this machine.
Could you explain to me that I should do to end this nightmare please.

    • @RidgePowerEquipment
      @RidgePowerEquipment  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

Many times a machine has been tipped the wrong way to clean the blade or underneath. Once oil gets into the muffler it has to burn off and can take 10+ minutes of smoke to burn off while running. I would check the oil and gas, make sure they are both clean. If this is not the cure for you, it could be an engine problem to which you may need a new mower. Best of luck!!

The worst design of Honda engines are these GCV engines to remove and reassemble the carburetor gaskets.
On certain GCVs like on Ryobi pressure washers the spacer has no holes in it and you only use two gaskets

I have an older Craftsman mower with the Honda 160cc engine. the set up on this model has no where close to to room you showed in this video to maneuver around. Putting back the breather tube is also a nightmare if you do not put it on first before you try to put it all back to the engine block. all in all Honda did a really lousy job in the design of the carb set up., I put a new carb in 5 years ago, and have to replace again now..No more Honda engines for me..Jim

In my findings , there was a metal gasket that you installed after a gasket on the first assembly of the filter housing . Some of them don't have that , I've worked on three of these 160 cc model and one of them had the metal gasket and two of them didn't . But all three are running fine after I cleaned them and put them back together . I've worked on small engines for thirty years , but the metal on some is confusing to me . Some have and some don't 😵🤔

I thought the same thing, but instead of being a separate gasket you slide on, mine has a metal piece on a stationary frame. It functions the same way though. And the order is still gasket first, then metal (either a gasket or frame piece) gasket, carb, and so on

Make sure the choke arm is moving the choke plate. If not, remove the carb slightly and move the arm behind the choke plate tab. Good luck

I’m years late, but my engine is missing the air intake metal gasket, this mower was given to me from a friend. Where can I find this part? I’ve been searching online everywhere

GCV160LAO , According to online sources 16100-ZOL-853 carb with plastic upright off choke assembly on carb that engages metal tab of timed, not temp wax type auto choke assembly is correct part #.
Problem being listings show carb minus the "Plastic Upright" that enrages Auto-Choke (timed Auto Choke) mechanism.
Q1: Is it possible to add the upright ? Looks like it would be a simple matter to do so. (Smooth shank bolt, double nutted, .)
Q2: Possible to convert the timed auto-choke to manual version ?
Q3: Possible to Swap linkage of old carb that has the "upright" and swap into new carb?
(Yes I know in a perfect world using a Honda branded version is the official route but want the ability to adjust mixture.. which means I can also clean passages more so, and ability to drain fuel via dedicated drain Honda carb does not have.)

Honda needs 5 gaskets, a throttle plate, a deflector plate, and air cleaner plate to do the job that Briggs and Stratton does with one O ring and a gasket and an air cleaner plate. Classic Japanese over engineered. Oh well they are out of the lawn mower business now aren't they.

Have just a couple questions. So at :54 you are using a total of 3 gaskets for the front? When I removed mine I simply had the gray gasket and then a yellowish gasket. But you have like a sandwhich of gaskets...
Next is at : 1:45 My bigger plate is metal, so there is no gasket in between the plate and the back of the carb? IE: From the mower engine it goes: gray gasket/plastic piece that is shaped like a square/big metal plate(heatshield looking thing)/CARB/gray gasket/Yellow gasket/gray gasket/air filter housing?
Sorry if I sound like an idiot.... I'm just not sure why mine had some gaskets while yours you are adding more. My mower is the same with the auto return lever choke that gets released as you depress the handlebars up top to start it.

So many different models, they all seem to use a number of different amount of gaskets
