I did know about this episode before. Screenshots from this episode were used as part of an April Fools' Day news item in Doctor Who Magazine some 15 or so years ago.

@@ctrlhypewall He'd have been well aware of Troughton, he was in lots of things. He played the robot in the first English language version of RUR and was one of those actors who just disappeared into a role.
@@zacmumblethunder7466 Patrick Troughton was, apart from maybe John Hurt, the best actor who's ever played the Doctor. The man played countless different roles throughout his career.

The 1st Doctor crashes the TARDIS and ends up falling out of it. The 2nd Doctor just happened to be at the same place at the same time so when he sees him decides to help without being noticed. The 1st Doctor in tatters is taken in a police car to a nearby medic and they take him to an ambulance. The 2nd Doctor, with good intentions, tries to find medical equipment from the ambulance but gets caught doing so by the police officer and the medic.
And talk about "Scarecrow!"
Of course he didn't help; he can't cross his own time stream and his presence reminds him that he won't regenerate there
Did you know that Hartnell appeared in a film which also featured Jon Pertwee in 1959 called "Will Any Gentleman?"

A limited pool of actors back then, tended to cross paths and work with each other on many different shows. Remember this was the early days of television, a lot of content had to be made to fill the airtime. Versatility was the key for these actors, if they did well in one show they knew they could get work in another. A lot of dramas were made.
Another coincidence is the lead actor of Dial 999 is Robert Beatty who would later play General Cutler in Hartnell’s last Dr Who story The Tenth Planet

What a reunion
I watched this episode on Talking Pictures (which tends to show quite a few films starring Mr Hartnell) a couple of years ago and I nearly spat my tea out. Lovely picture quality here.
Forget what you hear, William Hartnell will always be the First Doctor!

What episode is that? I recently caught Nicholas Courtney acting very Brigadier-ish in another fun Avengers episode, Mission Highly Improbable. Would like to check out that Pertwee one
It is called VENUS WITH LOVE 1967. Jon plays Brigadier Whitehead. Barbara Shelley has a starring role - who played opposite Andrew Keir in Quatermass & The Pit. Keir took part with Peter Cushing in DALEKS 2150 AD !

Bill Fraser, funnily enough, succeeded Hartnell as the platoon Sergeant in The Army Game, just as Troughton succeeded him as the Doctor. Didn't have to shoot him though to get his job!😄😄

Maybe this is some alternate reality version of the Logopolis plotline, but instead of the 4th Doctor meeting a wraith of his future self near to his regeneration, its the 1st Doctor that has his (soon to be) future self show up early.
Fun Fact: The first three Doctors have all appeared together before fighting Omega. Three and One were in Will any Gentleman?

This is interesting, as the book "Key to Time" which chronicled the production of Doctor Who, states (erroneously, as I now see) that William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton had never met until filming the regeneration scene in "Tenth Planet."
