Thank you Derek and all the fellers who worked on this truck along the way and the filmers. You bring me such joy this holiday pre New Years day. God bless you all.
This old truck is one of my favorites you've ever had on the channel. I love it when a rig shows how hard folks have worked to keep it going, and this one is hodge podged together so much it's almost comical. That said, I'd keep it around just because it's a long bed stepside. I also love that it's basically a continuation of the Lumborghini saga! Makes a fitting end, and brings some much needed positivity to that trainwreck.
Step side long bed? I didn't even know those existed until this. Plus with the other factory deletes this is pretty cool. The man knew exactly what he wanted and he would accept no substitutes.
I've got a '70 step-side long bed C10, inline 6 with Sniper EFI, lump port kit, 1.95/1.60 valves, long tube headers, three on the tree, and not a speck of rust on it. The exhaust is turned out in front of the left rear wheel, and it's LOUD. It's not cool loud, it's obnoxious loud. Sounds nice when it's idling, but you get it up to 2000 RPM and it drones and you need earplugs. I really need to get around to fixing that. It needs a new speaker for the AM radio to make it complete, and a bit more aggressive cam to take advantage of the lump kit and oversize valves.
It's good to see nice people still helping a feller. I'd love to have that old Chevy 3/4 ton. My dad had one with a six cylinder back in the 70s. The top speed was 55, also. Ha ha, keep videos coming. Love your channel.
Yikes.... there's something wrong there. All the 250c.i. I-6 trucks that I've had went much faster than 55...😬 In all reality, it only takes roughly 30 or so horsepower for one of these trucks to be able to maintain 55mph on the highway. My Buick Lacrosse takes 35h.p. to maintain 75mph... 🤷
What a nice find! I love that truck! I would definitely keep the original configuration, even find another column with the correct shifter on it. Keep the straight 6 alive!
I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now and I have to say that you have motivated me to get my 67 Dodge Dart back on the road, she was rear-ended a few months ago and I was devastated, I put her up for sale..but watching you bring all those beautiful classic cars back to life I decided to keep her and get her back on the road where she belongs..thank you

Seen my share of floor shift conversions, even done 20 or so over the last 60 years but this one takes the cake! How did he even figure out how to hook up the most complicated 3 speed shifter I've ever seen? Ingenuity I guess. Good luck getting it home Derek!
My brother owned this exact truck, a 1979 he got in 1982, except a 305 and automatic, and had a paint-matching topper on it. First vehicle I ever drove. He took me to get my permit, and on the way home, he pulled over and said "you drive." So, I drove the last few miles home. We had some great adventures in that truck. The long bed was perfect, too, for full 4x8 sheets of plywood and drywall.
Damn, brings back great memories of my dad's first work truck. 74 stepside with a 6 and 3spd on the tree. Thanks for this Derek. Some of the best times of my life.
I've still got my dad's 74 stepside with the 250 straight six and three on a tree, just keeps on rolling, and practically every day, somebody asks me about buying it !

Happy new year to the Bieri family and wishing you safe travels and continued success!
Big Kudos to the folks who helped out, loaded and hauled the Lumberghini back to the shop and also to Volunteer for lending their talents in making the exhaust safer for Derek to make it home, the truck was a lucky find, had a Chevy Nova once with the 250 engine, ran all right, not a tire burner, but decently reliable, eventually traded it for a retired cop car, good upgrade. Wanna see more of that truck though, tires, engine swap, another budget build, Thanks again to Derek for the new content and looking forward to many more shows.
Of my favourite things about Chevys most of their cheaper parts are totally interchangeable makes models and years mostly for trucks I love watching you bring those old trucks back to life
VGG, it's always good to see your videos stir up memories for folks. So many comments like, "My grandpa had one of those" or "Dad taught me how to shift a 4 speed in one of those. The videos refresh my memories of our old farm trucks. Still have the 1966 F100 that Dad bought new. Thanks for helping us relive the good old days !
Your comment is so true most of us have owned so many nice vehicles over the years especially us older guys there's many to mention. I would love to mention lol but no body really cares other than yourself. Peace my friend
Would be pretty neat to see it get some wood in the bed and a cheap down and dirty clean up/ tune up so people that got rigs like it can do the same on a budget and learn a thing or three.
I wasn't a square body guy but, I had a couple friends that would buy them cheap and part them out. There were alot of government agencies that bought these in the NW and so they had alot of 6 cylinders. It suprises me how regional car and motorcycle sales were.
You can tell a truck is old when it has a cataract. Not sure why they offered a long bed stepside. Is that a prototype Hurst shifter? Pretty sure I saw it in a JC Whitney a few years back. Happy New Year.
Old Chevy truck is a vast improvement over the crapborghini. You channel just keeps getting better and better. You have given me many hours of entertainment and enjoyment. Thank you.
I worked at a plumbing company in the 1990's that had a 26,000 mile old 1976 1 ton GMC dually -complete with service bed with a 292 Straight six - with automatic. Some older plumber had purchased when he retired and didn't drive it much to say the least. I found out why, to say it was slow would be an understatement. I still remember merging onto I-465 in Indianapolis, you would hit the gas as soon as I turned, hoping by the end of the merge lane I was within - 20 to traffic speed.
A square body and a stepside long body. A very nice and unique truck, I say keep it for the next million miles. They are getting more and more valuable these days, would love one myself. Thanks for the entertainment this evening, and have yourself a happy new year!
My new favorite video is the wooden lambo video. I could watch hours and hours of vids of Derek trying to drive hopeless rigs long distances. His sense of humor is awesome. When he left it with the keys in it and said “I hope someone steals it” I died laughing 😆
That truck is awesome minus that meth’d out shifter contraption, a long bed step side with the inline 6 that’s a 3/4 ton, that’s a hillbilly unicorn right there that I’d love to find and fix up and do the transmission right
That's a great truck with a lot of potential. Hopefully, you'll find the time to do a bit of a reliability rebuild on it and put it to good use on your property. I'm not a Chevy guy but that's the perfect beat-around truck to have around for whatever dirty jobs need doing.
I would keep the 6 cylinder myself. Only thing I would do to it is find a conventional head before the rebuild. The integrated head is nictorius for cracking when taking them off of the block.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed or the biggest gear head in my family, but watching your videos has really inspired me to fix some of my grandpas old cars. Matter of fact just 2 days ago I got my grandmas 57' Chevy bel air on the road after sitting 5+ years! And as of today I've put 60 miles on it. Just wanted to say your vids are great and thank you for the inspiration VGG!
I'd see about fixing up a column shifter, some other rust "fix" or stiffening up. Make it a user / driver and either use it or pass it on to someone who will. Neat old rig.
Boy I'm thinking about that Suburban at the garage you stopped at earlier, that red and white job looked nice. Can't say your not out for an adventure 😂 mosses sandals 😮!🤣👍
OMG, Derek! You were so close to our house! My hubs and I would have totally come and helped you if we had known!!!!! Loved the adventure!!!! Thanks for taking us along again, it's always a blast! P.S., we've got a huge garage, wildfire lift, and lots of tools off I-40 if you ever need help!
I'm glad that a guy made it home. Your square body truck looks just like the survey truck that we used when I worked for the USDA in Ohio. Same exact paint and wheel covers. Ours was an 81 or 82 version. It was standard on the floor. I think that it had 3 plus OD. You may have an old government truck. Any way... Happy New Year and thanks for the videos!
If you are looking for some cheap oldschool wheels for that truck, get ones off a late model Ford E250/350 van. The wheels fit square body dog dish hubcaps with no problem.
Man, it truly is an adventure every time! But that was some gorgeous countryside you took us through, and it's so good to see you made it home safe and sound! I'd say definitely keep that old rig around for a while, and of course, a very Happy New Year to you and your family! 😄
I think that rig would make a great budget fixer upper. I would enjoy seeing that happen. Thanks for doing what you do Derek. I've learned a lot watching your videos and enjoyed every moment!
One thing I always love about this guy is that you can tell loves America. The opening story about a bunch of fellas palling up just to help is exactly what rural America is like. It's such a breath of fresh air. On the internet everyone is so damn negative even though we have it way better than 99% of our ancestors ever did.
You always have good travel music Derek. 😁 Happy new year to you and may VGG continue to grow as well as it has since I first started watching way back when.
Maybe the very first time I’ve actually appreciated an ad - seeing the ad for O’Reilly after allllll the times you’ve mentioned them in so many episodes seemed like absolutely the best thing. So clear you find them and their product lines suitable that it seemed great to you actually pitch them.
Congrats, you finally broke the streak---you made it home in a rig! It was starting to seem like you had a curse on you lol I've owned two C10's with the 250/3 speed manual combo---the reliability of both of those trucks was mind-blowing. They just never broke. But what to do with it? She's pretty rotted....I think I'd flip this one
My first revival was inspired in part to the early Blazer episode & was my dad's '81 350 C20 cattle-hauler identical to this. Never quite became a goin-to town rig yet rigorously laid down ~64mi/day with its stock driveline and rotating assembly. She stood out like a baby-blue rusted gem among parking lots full of new compacts and suvs.
Man I love this guy 😂 Happy new year fellers, I hope you all had an awesome Christmas and I hope 2024 treats you all well. Thanks for all the content Derek, you're the man
That square body is an absolute unit! Love that it's a long bed stepside. I'm friends with a feller in Kuwait, and he says those are all the rage over there. They find fleetside trucks and pay big money to have stepside beds swapped onto them. Definitely a cool addition to the fleet!

Thank you Derek & family for the content great content round the calendar. Your videos are a blessing in ways you can't imagine..Thanks again & Happy New Year!!
I had a '75 GMC 1/2 ton short bed step side for 30 years. Swapped engine from the 250 to a 327 to a 350 with granny gear. Wife finally told me to trade it in for a new truck. Wish I still had the step side - they are collectors items now.
Wow! that left front tire is a recap! From the 60's or 70'S!! I haven't seen one of those since, well since the 70's! They started being used in WWII so the rubber could be given over to the war effort. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

My new favorite video is the wooden lambo video. I could watch hours and hours of vids of Derek trying to drive hopeless rigs long distances. His sense of humor is awesome. When he left it with the keys in it and said “I hope someone steals it” I died laughing 😆
Don't forget to check the transmission gear
Gotta admit we are bless to have Derek and the whole VGG family. When Derek explained how loose the wheel bearings were I died laughing haha.
The homemade floor shifter reminds of operating industrial equipment.
Happy Early New Year’s Derek and family.
There's all sorts of stuff this truck needs. It'll make for a good series of videos.
How do one find time to put out this much quality content this fast! Best car channel on youtube by far!
@willydavid this is his job
When the first car broke down, the trip turned into two videos. Having someone else edit the videos doesn't hurt either.
Fella you should get in touch with matts off road garage and join the wrecker games Paul from fab rats will be there
That truck is awesome minus that meth’d out shifter contraption, a long bed step side with the inline 6 that’s a 3/4 ton, that’s a hillbilly unicorn right there that I’d love to find and fix up and do the transmission right
That's a great truck with a lot of potential. Hopefully, you'll find the time to do a bit of a reliability rebuild on it and put it to good use on your property. I'm not a Chevy guy but that's the perfect beat-around truck to have around for whatever dirty jobs need doing.
I'd say this truck is a keeper! Some rare options too. Fix some rust and freshen up the straight six and enjoy!
I would keep the 6 cylinder myself. Only thing I would do to it is find a conventional head before the rebuild. The integrated head is nictorius for cracking when taking them off of the block.
Happy New Year Derek and the VGG family. This old girl just looked like she wants to keep going and going - a keeper!
I would just get a 4 x8 sheet of Aluminum Diamond plate. Cut to fit, self tapping. Screws, then call it a day
Those trucks are pure Gold! One thing that I praise you for in your moving on videos is that you never menace other drivers by tailgating them.
It's a neat truck with some unique options for sure. My favorite is the two-piece shifter
Dirt cars had 2 shifters.
That's awesome to hear, keep up the momentum
So cool just imagine her memories in that car.... Grandmas are the best..RIP grandma
I'd see about fixing up a column shifter, some other rust "fix" or stiffening up. Make it a user / driver and either use it or pass it on to someone who will.
Neat old rig.
Bingo PAL 😊
What a cool, quirky truck, great find. I love how”plain vanilla” of a vehicle it is. Can we see more on it?
Boy I'm thinking about that Suburban at the garage you stopped at earlier, that red and white job looked nice.
Can't say your not out for an adventure 😂 mosses sandals 😮!🤣👍
OMG, Derek! You were so close to our house! My hubs and I would have totally come and helped you if we had known!!!!! Loved the adventure!!!! Thanks for taking us along again, it's always a blast! P.S., we've got a huge garage, wildfire lift, and lots of tools off I-40 if you ever need help!
LEAVE THE A - HOLE TO HIS OWN DEMISE !!!!!!!!
Happy new year VGG! Hope this year starts well and ends amazing. Keep up the great work man. Love your revivals. Only ones i watch.
Thanks! Appreciate it!
Money well spent for membership!
Thanks Derek ❤
Yes!
Beats the stuffing out of cable in my opinion!
I agree. I would really appreciate you doine a little more work on this great old farm truck and post a little up date.
I think this truck wpuld be a great candidate for that super charged 400 sbc a guy has floating around a barn.
Pretty awesome twin sticks, very rare option for 3/4ton pickup, was common in semi'😊s,
One thing I always love about this guy is that you can tell loves America. The opening story about a bunch of fellas palling up just to help is exactly what rural America is like.
It's such a breath of fresh air. On the internet everyone is so damn negative even though we have it way better than 99% of our ancestors ever did.
VGG keeps cranking out consistent content, always great.
After the week
I’ve had was hoping for a 2 hour episode but I’m thankful either way to get a new VGG episode 🍻
You always have good travel music Derek. 😁 Happy new year to you and may VGG continue to grow as well as it has since I first started watching way back when.
That tune during the sunset, starting from 26:20 - what a sweet lullaby...
Maybe the very first time I’ve actually appreciated an ad - seeing the ad for O’Reilly after allllll the times you’ve mentioned them in so many episodes seemed like absolutely the best thing. So clear you find them and their product lines suitable that it seemed great to you actually pitch them.
RIP Lumberghini, we barely knew you.
I have had a couple of those rigs myself. You are absolutely right. They just go and go with very few issues. Don't make em like that no more.
Awesome! I was hoping there would be more to this story. Thanks Derek!
Cool, I have never seen a long bed step side, but i've never seen a step side with an actual step up into the back end, that's pretty awesome
Man I love this guy 😂
Happy new year fellers, I hope you all had an awesome Christmas and I hope 2024 treats you all well.
You do some much stuff that my father has taught me to do to make it home bro, I love it, this was my favorite episode bro yet your a trip dude lol, happy new year!
Glad you enjoyed it, happy new year!
Yeah. This trip is one I 'd loved to help work on. Turning wrenches or filming or helping with snacks....
So happy to see the rest of the story on that truck you picked up!! Sad about the lambo...
Wow, those mandrel bends, and the angle-cut finisher on the exhaust. That is some real nice work.
Happy New year Derek and family ,great vid and so nice to see folks helping out ...👍
A feller always finds an old squarebody to get him home ! Thanks for the members vidjja ! Hope you and yours had a great Christmas! Happy new year derik and family!
Love the way this continues right where the Woodborghini episode left off. Thats a nice looking Stepside you went away with anyhow: Great bed styling! Happy New Year Derek, all the best to you and your family from a guy in New Zealand;)
I enjoy watching you channel been watching for about 6 months finally subscribed like me my dad showed me all my life around motors since I was little keep up the good work
Love the shifter setup. Reminds me of the guy that used a set of light switches to shift a 4l80e.
Happy New Year Derek. That's a sweet work truck. Probably go 1 million more miles. 😊😊 I would get a proper shifter and fix the rear seal. You can tow stuff around the place with it. Might as well.
Agreed!
Thank you Derek & family for the content great content round the calendar. Your videos are a blessing in ways you can't imagine..Thanks again & Happy New Year!!
Awesome truck! Had one of those long beds! Good stuff! Happy New Year’s to you and your family!👍🏼
Cool rig, I like them, but
Prefer my GMT400s 😊
I had a '75 GMC 1/2 ton short bed step side for 30 years. Swapped engine from the 250 to a 327 to a 350 with granny gear. Wife finally told me to trade it in for a new truck. Wish I still had the step side - they are collectors items now.
Wow! that left front tire is a recap! From the 60's or 70'S!! I haven't seen one of those since, well since the 70's! They started being used in WWII so the rubber could be given over to the war effort. Thanks for bringing back that memory.
Happy New Year!! What a great turn around. I appreciate the work that went into all of this.
