Thanks Doc. But for your kidney patients, if they take Mg, or Vit E or Vit D3, their calcium levels are going down, what inference would you draw. Is it that they are not able to convert D3 to activated form ie Calcitriol and hence are unable to tolerate Mg etc hence put them on calcitriol first ? Or is it that Kidney patients cannot manage /ingest magnesium and potassium supplements in the first place ?
Maybe it’s better to split it twice a day. I take 400 mg supplement after dinner, then take a magnesium bath (epsom salt), I eat foods really high in magnesium… maybe this is why I’m so tired and no energy to workout anymore plus muscle twitches. Too much magnesium 🤷♀
How about b12 and d3 for us eating a plant base diet. Should i eat fish like salmon for that instead of taking pills. My mag is okay per my cronometer app.

So glad our episodes are helping! Lentils are a great plant protein and fiber source. Lentils contain a good amount of potassium (~365 mg per 1/2 cup cooked). So only thing to be mindful of is if you have a potassium restriction. You just want to make sure the portion and what they are consumed with fits individual potassium needs.

There are many different forms for different purposes (gastrointestinal, sleep, etc). You will want to check with your nephrologist to see which form is best for you. And make sure to have blood magnesium levels checked before (and during) supplementing with magnesium if you have kidney disease.
Hello Dr.Hashmi and Michelle, i am from India and i watched all your videos and i absolutely love your videos and suggestions.But now here is the problem.....i am a Ckd patient for the past 1year ,age 24,and born single kidney one,and i noticed my condition due to high blood pressure and it is my only symptom ,for now i take my medication and it is under control.my creatinine levels fluctuates from 5.5 to 8.5 for the past 1 year........And Now here is my question is it better to do a transplant or to wait for the dialysis stage and take medication in your opinion.and i would like to hear your response.

Wow! That's crazy! Well I've always had a normal EGFR at 65 but my last blood work showed magnesium for the first time low at 1.4. I asked my doc could I take magnesium and she said yes 200 mg 2 capsules a day so we will see on my next Blood work but I feel amazing
You will want to check with your nephrologist whether you can supplement with magnesium or not! You can have them check your blood levels and go from there.

Sir, I am Mr.parag 37 years old. I was on dynapar nsaid 75ml in vain injection along with buscopan in vain injection for short time (about 4 hours) for pain relief caused by stomach ach associated with common food poisioning and stomach gas, that was given to me under the supervision of nephrologist in may 2017 (At that moment no primary clinic was present near to me except nephrologist hospital and so I had taken help). He told me that pain will be vanished but u will have dark urine as a side effect. At that time I didn't know how the nsaid works. Then when I had pee I observed dark urine and very small urine output. I was worried about and asked him, he given me disodium hydrogen citrate syrup and asked is it (dark urine) happened before in past? I was told no. he told drink at least 4 lit water a day and go home. (Also My main stomach ach symptom remains unresolved since he treated only pain symptom and not the underlying cause) He hasn't explained me what he done to my kidneys. After that I was googled for that and then I realised that I was on sevior kidney risk for short time. Then I don't observed dark urine. But question in my mind arrives today also is that damage to kidneys were recovered or not? Today in 2024 also when I saw a morning urine with some foam I got worried and my mind corelates past incident with today and I worried about my kidney function is it chronically affected after that dark urine moment or is it ok? Should I have to worry about today for my renal health? Plz help.
Hello! There can be acute kidney damage or chronic kidney disease/damage. Blood tests and urinalysis (showing protein leaking in the urine) trends over time will be able to tell you the state that your kidneys are in! Would definitely recommend reviewing these labs with the nephrologist and the unresolved stomach issues with a GI specialist! It's important and ideal for all doctors to assess and take into account other health factors and whether the treatment they are prescribing will impact other health factors or not.

There are a lot of uses of magnesium so we recommend discussing with your physician how you use it so they can look at the safety according to your labs, health history, and other meds/supplements you might be taking!

I take 200-400 mg of magnesium malate per day. I do not have any GI issues or diarrhea.
I just started taking this 200 2x a day and feel amazing but do feel discomfort in my stomach for a short while afterwards.

That's why the capsule also contains K2. Incidentally, taking D3 without Magnesium is not a good idea either.
