      No. Especially with two in the bin already, SOMEONE has to go.
      Review the tape, see if you can find out who. If you can, red for them.
      If you can't, red the captain for ill discipline.

    • @tollyt7465

      @@michaelfalkner1186 if you can identify, you can card the culprit, but the video ref can't look at that offence and give a definitive decision because of the noise from the crowd.. And you cannot red card the captain, or any other player for ill discipline unless it's the player who committed the offence.. That's why the ref said he had a suspicion, but couldn't be sure..

    • @michaelfalkner1186
      @michaelfalkner1186 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tolly T The captain has to be responsible for the conduct of his players -- and the official made clear that a red card offense had occurred, and he had suspicion as to who. At that point, he has to send somebody off, and let the Tribunal and the like deal with the rest.
      The fact they already had two in the bin can also be used as a cause for such action against the captain, if all else fails.

    • @tollyt7465
      @tollyt7465 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@michaelfalkner1186 I don't disagree that the Captain is responsible, nevertheless under the games laws the referee cannot send someone off (Captain or not) if he is uncertain who committed the offence.. He can Yellow card for that offence, or repeated infringements, but he can't red card without clear evidence of the offender..

      And how we got here was a definitive sending-off offense had been witnessed as occurred, but no one knew WHO made the statement. At that point, it falls on the captain.

I'm not saying a less fit guy is a worse ref and I know the game up north is slower, but I can't see this ref being allowed to ref Super Rugby or even Currie Cup (if he was South African) even assistant ref would be a stretch....
