The reason he got sacked was he told the producers that there absolutely wasn't anything else he had done... and then the second story broke. Have I Got News for you Was at its very best when Angus Deaton was the presenter, he was incredibly sharp witted and got the best out of Paul Merton and Ian Hislop, mainly because they disliked him. They both contributed to him leaving but absolute respect to Angus for turning up to be roasted by Ian and Paul at the time of his scandal. HIGNFY was never the same after he left, it became more patchy occasionally good sometimes and more often in the later episodes rubbish. I really miss those days TV was at its best then.
I think this is nostalgia. People get it with everything. I see people saying that the music from whatever decade they were in their teens or 20s, is the best. Angus was good, but I think Rob Brydon is better in WILTY, after he replaced him. HIGNIFY is hit and miss now, but the hits make up for the misses.
I remember Eddie izzard ‘s ‘he said jam to everything, and people roared with laughter’ appearance. It was one of the most brilliant things I’ve ever seen from a comedian on a panel show, he was like quicksilver.

Maybe he just felt the need to defuse the situation and bring the programme back towards comedy - otherwise, something nasty might be said, and lawyers would be getting involved. He's probably saved the BBC (i.e., the taxpayer) several thousand quid. The standard forum for this stuff is probably something like Newsnight - controlled environment, no live audience, no 'hospitality', expectations are clear. I would love to see the fully unedited recordings of these spats, but they'll never see the light of day.

Piers Morgan has been maligned by every institution he has worked for and by people of every political, professional and social position in existence. I'm sure he's very proud of his time as the resident bellend on breakfast television, which, in his defence, is more respectable than editor of the tabloids he worked for.
