  • The Raptor is an amazing truck worthy of an amazing engine. While the standard 6.2L mill is no slouch, it's far from high tech and eats gas like no other. This is the Raptor review Ford doesn't want you to see: the Super Duty Headquartters Ecoboost-powered Raptor.

    I love my Eco boost. Iv raced all of my buddies (Chevy, GMC, Dodge, Toyota, and Nissan) and none of their trucks even come close to the power of mine. Not to mention, it pulls like a diesel. Ford did really good with these motors.

    I'd definitely like to see Ford experiment with a smaller turbo diesel engine and put the current hp and torque numbers to shame.

      What pisses me off is that they don't have mini-diesel F150s, they have Rangers with diesels in Europe.

    • @noblekitty
      @noblekitty 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RacFuhk Europe and else where don't have as strict emission control on diesel as we do in the US. New diesels in the US have so much emission add on and diesel exhaust fluid usage which requires expansive maintenance, higher operating cost. The additional EPA related equipment also make new diesel less reliable and choking on power. Only in the US, diesel costs more than regular unleaded gasoline.
      All those factors make very little economical sense to own small diesel powered vehicles in the US.
      A diesel powered 1/2 ton pickup sounds so sweet, until you get to your first oil change to find out it costs around $100 to $150 to perform. And don't forget to keep an eye on the DEF level. It's annoying.

    I always talk crap on V6 engines, but i love the 3.5 eco, its got more power and torque than the 6.2L. Dont get me wrong that 6.2 is a beast when supercharged, but to have a more powerful V6... i never thought the day would come

      WiIdbiII fuel efficiency is always beneficial, even in race cars. Just think of why Audi went to TDI for Le Mans. Considering the Raptor was designed with endurance races such as the Baja 1000 in mind, and the ecoboost V6 has been used to great success in that race, it isn't so ridiculous to consider fuel efficiency when designing an endurance race car.

    • @WiIdbiII
      @WiIdbiII 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      joeracer302 Fuel Efficiency means Nothing to a person who is willing to spend 60 to 80 thousand dollars on a Truck as a Toy, (A rich Guy, Not me). Every time i see a Raptor it is either pulling into a gas station or out of one. But if Money was no object to me, I'd have a couple of them.

    The 6.2 is a damn good motor, I'm not on this whole ecoboost bandwagon. Count me out on the new raptor, not driving a V6. Now if they come out with a 5.0 ecoboost i'll be in on that.....

    • @OneOneNineFilms
      @OneOneNineFilms 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +TheHardcoreLife or just twin turbo the 6.2... for now, the 3.5 with direct and port injection, completely forged internals and the boost cranked all the way up is good for me. Did i mention it makes 500+ HP and an assload more torque from the factory, with a warranty?

    • @RevolutionMuscle
      @RevolutionMuscle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you crank the boost up you won't have a warranty anymore.

    • @OneOneNineFilms
      @OneOneNineFilms 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You do know the new Raptor comes with a beefed up 3.5L running more boost safely than the current generation, all with Ford's warranty right?

    • @RevolutionMuscle
      @RevolutionMuscle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +OneOneNineFilms I'm waiting to see how long it takes for people to start blowing these motors. Raptor owners always take shut to far and break stuff then blame ford. bent frames from jumping like they are monster trucks. only a mater of time until guys blow these engines in the desert. Does anyone even know if turbo engines perform well in off road conditions?

    • @OneOneNineFilms
      @OneOneNineFilms 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Rally cars have been using forced induction since the 90s. They tested the 3.5 specifically down in Baja and it completed the event with a record time to go along with it.

  • @a.wheeler7731
    @a.wheeler7731 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can install the Raptor transfer case control module and the raptor 4wd selector switch for less than 200 total and gain the ability to lock the rear in 2wd , atleast below ~20 or 30 mph

  • @TechNICKal07
    @TechNICKal07 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Okay I understand why Ford is using turbos in all its new engines. More power with (arguably) less fuel consumption. Fair enough. What I don't understand is why they just don't keep the 5.0 or 6.2 V8 and add a duel turbo to that! The 2017 Raptor has a V6, if you're buying a truck like the Raptor it's likely not your daily driver and you more than likely don't care if you save an extra 3MPG over the previous year's V8...

    • @bannablitz247
      @bannablitz247 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick A. if i had either motor i would not be able to keep my foot out of it (I drive an 04 f350 v10 4.56 gears in rear end= 13mpg hw or 8 not being nice in the city) when you cant keep your foot out of it gas mileage sucks and 3 mpg makes a bigger difference than you think. assuming the tank is 23 gallons at 16mpg you get 368 miles per tank at 13 you get 299 miles which with a gas price of 2.98 with 16mpg it costs $186.25 per 1k miles with 13mpg $229.23 per 1k miles so assuming you put on 10k a year as a daily driver thats $1862.5 per year in gas vs $2292.3 per year

    • @willow450
      @willow450 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      there's more to ecoboost than throwing a turbo at an engine. the ecoboost engines have direct injection which allows them to run much leaner air fuel ratios off load which saves fuel. also with direct injection you can run higher compression ratios without the worry of detonation so you can run 87 octane. All of this adds up to less money spent on fuel. to do this to a 5.0 you would have to rework the cylinder heads and make a whole new computer to run that engine. People like the 5.0 the way it is and to see Ford change the design that has been around forever would probably piss a lot of people off.

    • @TechNICKal07
      @TechNICKal07 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +supercowmoo3 The thing is the EcoBoost does not get better fuel economy. A Ram 1500 with a Hemi 5.7 gets 15/22. A EcoBoost Explorer Sport gets 16/22.

    I've watched this a few times, and something about a v6 in a truck just doesnt sound right. Like, the literal sound of it. V6's belong in cars and minivans and small pickups. Nobody buys a fullsize for its mpg.

    • @frostbite1991
      @frostbite1991 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Chemini I've had lifted ford trucks before, right now I'm even driving a 7.3, the fact that I used to have (sold it for a G35) a stanced ride doesn't mean I dont know what I'm talking about. I enjoy most all types of vehicles. Have fun driving a truck with a minivan engine though...

    • @willpugh8865
      @willpugh8865 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zac Price buddy my eco boost puts out near 400 hp and almost the same in torque, fully loaded with tools and my crew, going 140km down the highway with 11.5l/per 100km ...eat it lol

    • @frostbite1991
      @frostbite1991 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +will pugh but it sounds like a minivan on steroids. id much rather my pickups sound like proper pickups, and without boost lag. you wont get the same torque from a boosted v6 than you do from a v8. you have absolutely NOTHING in the low end until those turbos wake up.

    • @frostbite1991
      @frostbite1991 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Chemini maybe on the highway in perfect conditions, I personally know a few people with these that say their v8's got better city mpg because the low end torque was able to move the truck around at lower rpm easier.

    • @frostbite1991
      @frostbite1991 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I'll add to this. I have a coworker with a 2010 Chevy pickup. 4wd, loaded, big v8. he gets 16-17 mpg in town, and over 30mpg on the highway. Cylinder deactivation FTW.

Why would I buy a v6 and send 20-30k more vs modded out the 6.2? Makes no sense. This V6 sounds like lame compared to the 6.2..

    • @tonyrocks951
      @tonyrocks951 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @derrickspoelhof3964
      @derrickspoelhof3964 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Supercharge the 6.2, and then compare the ecoboost. You could have 7 grand in an entire supercharger kit, versus the 20 to 30 grand you would have into the ecoboost. Plus, you would make way more power with a supercharged 6.2

    • @derrickspoelhof3964
      @derrickspoelhof3964 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand the point of it. Somebody should make a turbo kit for the ecoboost, maybe some bigger turbos, then I'm interested. But, you don't get that much better milage when you drive that way.

    It's metaphorical. A proper drive in such a car is a deeply connective thing. You do feel that the car is with (or against) you with real conciousness. You can feel its mood, how it feels about what you're doing. A good car will talk to you, communicate intimately with the deepest parts of your mind. In the semi-delusional high of adrenaline that follows, you can genuinely believe it is a concious beast.
    Of course, it's an inanimate object, but a car does have the ability to ascend beyond that.

      jrstow86 raptors are about 60 k new add the two turbos, exhaust, intake and a few other things then you are at 70k. Buy another raptor you are at 130k. Somehow your math doesnt quite check out.

    It didn't get smoked at the track either, it still outran the Corvette ('91 6spd ) in the quarter mile (14.36 for Corvette, 13.5 for Syclone).
    And that's pretty much what people love the Sylone for, the straight-line performance especially off the line. The AWD, automatic, and torque output lends itself well in the real world when sitting at a stoplight with the other guy ready to go. I'd say people like them because their utility (bed), AWD, and are sleepers that surprise a lot of racers: cool.

    It gets into the vents and the nooks and crannies of the interior and stays there.
    Wading it through many rivers of Michigan for a couple of days (one thing I will say about Ford, at least they let you play) kinda fucks them up.
    No, it's not worth much cash, probably less than £1500. But it's worth the world to me, and I love it to bits. It's unrelenting, indefatigable, enduring. It's not sleek, or fast, or cushty, but it's utterly amazing that a 40 year old car can still bring you the world.

    why don't people understand this? The conversion isn't $40,000 more than a standard Raptor. I say very clearly in the video that this particular truck, in addition to the engine swap, has $25,000 in aftermarket stuff on it. A "stock" Raptor with this engine would only be $5,000 more than a standard Raptor, so you'd make it up in 3 years.

  • @TheSmokingTire
    @TheSmokingTire 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    People really need to listen more carefully. The reason this truck is $80,000 is because it has $25,000 worth of suspension, skids, bumpers, lights, wheels, and tires on it. An Eco-boost swapped Raptor without all the extra stuff costs $55,000, or just $5,000 more than a stock raptor. That means that in under 4 years you're ahead of the game on gas, AND you get more power than stock.

    For a full size, 5 seater, 4 door luxury saloon, a top speed of 145 and a 0-60 of 7 seconds was bloody impressive in 1972. By the 80s, that was still massively impressive, in fact, pretty much the same car still existed. Even in the 90s, in the XJ40, the V12 was still proving to be a very quick engine for that car.
    Nowadays, a turbo 4 pot in a lightweight hatchback with modern aerodynamics would match it.
    As I've said before, I'm not female. I don't know where you're getting that idea at all.

  • @TheSmokingTire
    @TheSmokingTire 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    we didn't say it was. The lightning is bad at ALL truck stuff. The only thing it's good at is going fast, but it's not even that fast (in stock form). The Raptor is a truck that is good at truck stuff, not trying to be a sports car and failing at it.
