- Does a truck need a supercharged engine capable of producing 575 hp? Probably not, but Justin has never been one to let rationality get in the way of a little fun. So, he jumped at the chance to get behind the wheel of the 2013 Shelby Raptor. Naturally, this truck of extravagant excess calls Sin City its home, so Justin traveled to VORE (Vegas Off-Road Experience) for a little fun in the sun.

I've been checking this truck or for awhile now reading comments. People keep saying they wouldn't spend this much (not the Shelby edition but a 50k raptor) on a truck. Well what would you spend it on? A sports car that has 10000 horsepower with two seats that you would never get to get past 80mph if ur in the us with a small trunk and no practicality? Or a SUV with 7 seats which is plausible. At least the raptor you can tow, seat 5, throw some hammers in the back, and go off road at high speeds without a care. I just don't see, besides a family SUV, that's "worth" the price. A sports car sure isn't.

Dustin Mittel the velociraptors are also known to be slightly modified roush raptors that burst into flames very easily.
Seen one burst Hennessy isn't that reliable, yes the pulled off a 600hp truck but it'll spend quite a bit of time in the shop thanks to Hennessy, I'll take Shelby, they've been around longer an it's definitely not going to burst into flames. It may be higher prices but you actually get your money's worth.
The Raptor beats the Ram Runner and wipes out of the map the Reaper.
Best truck to drive in rush hour traffic, just love this beast, commuting with my 2014 Raptor is a blast, you signal you insert yourself with a Raptor, no BS from all the smaller lesser vehicles that surround you. This beast does it all, great on road, off road and you can work with it. City streets are going from bad to horrible, do I care in a Raptor, absolutely not!!
So this truck basically got the old GT500 motor. I'm liking it, the whine of the truck going side ways as he blips the throttle. This is heaven, great ford i don't have enough money for all of your new toys.
No problem, man. Unfortunately, 90% of internet crowd are just people looking to shout their impolite comments at whoever is less than what they deem perfect. Your show is really quite amazing. You've driven cars and trucks that I can only dream of driving while giving a stout analysis of everything that matters. When you drove the Fait 500 Abarth was my favorite show. Absolutely love the car.

The only unfortunate thing about the Raptor is that it doesn't scream "Hey! I cost as much as a Land Rover!" It looks great for a truck, but unless you know anything about trucks this is going to look like a 30k truck. Obviously this machine is not made for looks, even though it does look sweet as shit, that's just my opinion.

Pretty much. Also 4WD has the ability to change the gear ratio in the transfer case hence 4 Low and 4 High.
I love these trucks. It's awesome to see shelby getting to work on them. I've driven one and while the 6.2 from the factory gets this monster moving it didn't have that straight line wow factor I was expecting. 411 hp sounds like a lot until it's in a 6k lb truck with 35" A/T tires. The added HP should compliment the rest of the truck really well.

Yea that silent exhaust is so manly. All you can hear of the engine is the supercharger.
4wd means the transfer case sends equal power to the front and rear axle. The difs can still be locked or unlocked
Where I live we have mud not sand! My Power Wagon has had to pull these raptors out of the mud on a few or well three times to be exact! From hole that I just drove though! So not a good truck for off road here! But in the little sandy hills it looks to do good! But that's all it's good for! My power wagon is great in all kinds of off road situations ! Mud , snow , rocks , hill climbing, and rescuing raptors!

Think you missed the part where he said it was a joy to drive on the streets. But I do agree that for that kind of money I could buy a Ford and personalize it, only difference I'd go with 2wd...no need for 4wd where I live
I love my, Raptor, but I'm not using Shelby American for the power adders. I'm going with, the Procharger i 1, it's a variable rate centrifigal supercharger, that'll give me more then 600 hp, that's just the supercharger and tuning that comes with it, then I'll go even crazier with new inhectors, and a full exhaust from the heads back, I'm thinking long tube headers, high flow cats, all from Kooks.

The Ford Raptor has been a big seller for Ford. The dealers can't seem to keep them in stock. I don't know why the other companies haven't brought out their version of the Raptor. GMC did a real nice lifted truck with Fox shocks a few years ago for the auto shows. Too bad they didn't make it. Raptors have the market all to themselves now.

But what do you think about the relation between this price 65k and the inside materials ??? cause I heard people saying that the price only justifies the engine and the painting because they are incredible strong for the motor, and incredible stylish for the painting, but the rest the materials the plastics used for inside decorations, are made with inferior quality materials,who are not worthy of the brand itself...Is true ?? Do you think like this too ?? Cause if it is, i don't want to spend money in a car just cause of it engine and paint, cause i can have that in other models like Atlas or the New F-150 !! That's the supercharger doing it's work, any supercharged car produces this sound. It doesn't sound nice on a big beefy truck like this though.

The Shelby is nice, so is the Rousch. But I belive Hennessey has the most hp in its super charger, 600hp. Now that is a beast. I am getting a stock loaded Raptor, might have to do a bit more saving for the added package. 16 to 20 grand extra pending on who does it.

Funny cuz the Velociraptor from Hennessey makes 600hp and 400 to the wheels, and it isnt just a supercharger, they make horsepower the old fashion way, and its also the most reliable, and it does have a supercharger as a bonus. And i agree with Spartan, but motortrend havnt shown many Hennessey match ups, i think Hennessey dislikes Motortrend or motortrend dislikes Hennessey.

Don't take this as a fact but I think that if you go to Shelby you can keep some of your warranty thats what I read somewhere but not for sure.
Don't get me wrong, i respect this truck for its capabilities even if i do hate Ford. Realistically though, i think maybe 1% of people buying this truck are actually using it like he did in this video. Its essentially a pavement princess because it costs so much no one wants to play with it.

not really. Shelby made Durangos, Dakotas and Expeditions while Carrol was alive. so an Shelby F150 is not a surprise.
BTW: Shelby was personally involved with a lot more off beat cars over the years including the Shelby Charger 2.2, Shelby Daytona, Shelby Omni (GLH and GLHS) and Shelby Lancer. a hot rod is a hot rod, even if it takes a little more doing to make it one. Carrol thought the Mustang was a lousy car and did it as a favor and to make sure his racing program continued.
