OK im a Dodge guy (MOPAR OR NO-CAR AMIRIGHT?!) but these guys know wut they're doing talking about etc and to be honest the ram runner was a kit whereas the Raptor was manufactured so of course thats the multitask vehicle unlike the ram
All I have to say is they had better watch what they say about Mopar these days since Mopar sponsors a few of the Motor Trend programs. This is older so of course they trumped it up for Ford, you should see the Mustang/Camaro video.

This shows the difference between adding parts to a vehicle, that was not specifically designed for them (RamRunner), and a fully factory tested and still purpose built piece of machinery (Raptor).
Raptor: More affordable, better overall truck for a daily driver and off roader.
Ram runner : unaffordable, and shit on the road, and in most cases gets fucked by the raptor off road!
Base price the RAM is cheaper, just because they decided to use one with more options doesn't make it unaffordable
Damian Hernandez A stock ram is not an off road vehicle at the level of the Raptor. Add 30k on to the Raptor and you have a ram runner. Is that worth it? I don't think so, unless you have money to blow and want to have an 80k off road toy. A raptor can be both an off road vehicle and a daily driver.

Dodge Ram is like an off-road ricer. Loud looks backed up by nothing special. The Ford is the real deal and a silent killer. Talk about handing Dodge's ass to them.

I just think the ram is just a more defiant truck n keeps the driver more engaged with it. the Ford seems more of a cruiser for dirt which is sweet.

I think the issue is... Ford designed the Raptor to be what it is. They designed the entire truck, tested, tuned and what have you. It seems like all Dodge did to "stay with the competition" was to contract out a suspension kit and a bumper/skidplate replacement. They said it in the video, with the Dodge's package you have to purchase the wheels and tires yourself. So it literally is JUST a suspension kit with a bumper. Essentially it's more for looks. And I do have to give it to them, when it comes to having the generally accepted "stance" of a pre-runner, the Dodge definitely looks the part and looks like a beast, without going too far out. But in my opinion, the Raptor is just awesome.
I just wish they hadn't gone with those stupid ass matte vinyl graphics on the side. When washing something that's matte, you can't just clean an area if it's dirty you have to wash it all at once or else it will show. At least that was the case with the matte finished bikes and race bikes my buddy's shop built. He never wanted to do a custom bike for himself or the shop with a matte finish because it was hard to keep pretty.

Dodge diesels are far superior, as far as the faders go, the fords and dodges are pretty equal
Spineshot25 You're a fucking idiot. Dodge doesnt own cummins. Cummins is a privately owned company that gives out their engines to other companies that take contracts from them. GM used to use Detroit diesel, bad ass engines, but then they decided they could do better and made a diesel that sucked ass so they went to their daughter company Isuzu and they designed the Duramax. The Duramax is powerful but horrible mileage and breaks easy and you have to spend a ton to make it better and or fix it. And the powerstroke was originally from ford/international but then ford and international got pissed and ford bought the blue prints and after a few bad engines Ford got it right. but hell, once you take ford's advice about the conversion kits even the 6.0 and 6.4 are better than duramaxs.
Probably the reason that the rpms were bounce up and down on the Dodge was because you had the exhaust brake on. You can clearly see the light beside the rpm gadge. If you know what an exhaust brake sounds like you can hear it turn on and off.

The problem with the Ram is simple. At the end of the day, it's what anybody can do to a stock Ram. The Ford on the other is a matched package all the way around.
that is the main reason I don't know why they are comparing these. basically the ford is factory made and the dodge is a factory accessory package that you can buy to install. well fuck, if I'm gonna customize my truck than I'm gonna do it how I want, not what the factory says they've got.

The kit is verified to work right with the truck and is a true bolt on complete kit... also might come with a warranty, no idea. Not a bad way to go but it's a niche part choice market in an already niche lifted truck market. Probably not going to do well the scope is too narrow.

Kory Breitenbucher You're right. It is a good option for people who are confused about what will work best. The Aftermarket is so full of stuff that it's confusing to a lot of people. The days of mix and match guesswork is, maybe not over, but at least there are options out there that eliminates a lot of it for the novice and makes the Hobby more accessible.

Nonetheless, the Ram Runner is the closest offering to the Raptor. Dodge could have started from the ground up like Ford, but they chose to go with the cheaper option of developing a kit.
I think he didn't realize that the Ram Runner is very specialized for off - road driving where as the Ford is kind of universal so it depends what you're looking for. If your going to use the truck for work, you'd probably want to pick the Raptor but if you wanted a truck that would just be for all out off-road driving, the Ram is a better choice.

For me the only thing better about the Ram is it looks a little nicer. They both look good though, but performence wise...the Raptor is way ahead. The Runner also seems to be only a play truck. While the Raptor is capable of everyday use. Overall...Raptor is better here.

They have since fixed the issue and now make transmissions for BMW, Audi, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce. All car companies have there flaws. In Fact, Ford has had 3 of the largest recalls in automotive history, totaling almost 44 million recalled vehicles in just 3 separate events. 21 Million of those were Transmission related where the transmission failed to engage PARK!!! So Kramer S can STFU!!!

ToAstYNaChO Oops, you are correct. The new torque flights are ZF transmissions, however they are still made by Chrysler in Kokomo IN, and they are fantastic. I wish I would have bought stock in that company a few years back.

ford sells the most because they are the cheapest.... dodge won't budge on their price because they know they are the best... so its up to you to decide which is the best. a lot of people choose ford because they can save a few bucks, but when it comes down to quality, nothing beats a dodge... chevy's are kind of like a ford with a make over (junk).... and toyota's... lmfao! have fun at the gas pumps.

The ford is a better buy! For the price of the ram as tested you have more than $13k to make the raptor a hell of a lot better than the ram! Suspension and tires to make the ford better off road would be less than $10k. The winner and still champion is FORD!
The dodge is already upgraded and is ready for the dunes once you buy it, the raptor your gonna have a hell of time paying more than 13k for the labor and kits so you can play in the sand with the big boys

Jason Morrison like I said, they ran the raptor in the Baja 1000 stock. It's ready to play and is a better daily driver than the ram. There is no competition. Spend a shot load for the ram to use on the weekends or pay less for an all around vehicle? I think someone is in denial.

People talk the most shit about ford but forget that they're they're the only company out of the big three that didn't except government bailouts. Dodge and GM should both be out of business but they took government loans to stay in business. Ford also made the first affordable American car (model T) and invented the first moving assembly line. I'm a huge supporter of GM and Dodge as well but some people should learn the origin of American automobiles and who started it all before saying the cliche "Found On Road Dead" acronym.

I'm not a Dodge fanboy either - the Raptor is great at what it is... a factory designed truck that does everything well... The Dodge is a package kit you add on designed for Baja style off roading... of course they are different. I honestly don't see why they compared the two.

As others have written this is a Ford ad!!! There is no comparison the Ram is long travel and will blow the raptor out of the water. That's why they show the street driving and turning because it highlights the raptors sway bar and tight turning. In every major off-road category the ram has more clearance, better approach and departure angles, more wheel travel, faster through woops but somehow the raptor is better?? What? Just put a sway bar on the ram and it will stead nice if that's what you want your off road baja truck to do.
In defence of the raptor the ram kit cost a lot and I'm sure you could build the raptor up with long travel to equal or better the ram. So it's about the money you spend too.
Also if you look closely in the 5 seconds they show the ram in the technical slow trail they have it 2x4. Ha! Cheaters.

these guys need to clarify a few things. 1. the ram runner is a KIT, so the ability of the truck is 100 percent dependant on what YOU buy as a base truck. meaning if this 1500 wasnt bought with limited slip and such, then yes it will suck. 2. that hunting in the transmission tells me someone did not tune the shift points with the larger tires, nor thoubht ahead that larger tires would be installed when ordering or buying the base truck. in all categories, yes the raptor will be a better truck as it was engineered from the get go with all components working together. also that 56k price tag is not correct, unless they are buying just an extra cab. 3. rear axle hop in a corner on a leaf spring truck is indicative of malfunctioning shocks, or shocks not tuned for the weight of the truck. i had nitrogen fox shocks on my f350 that came on it when purchased it. i put up with them for 3 years, installed hydraulic shocks and it rides night and day different. no more bounce on concrete freeways, no more rear wheel hop during heavy braking, and no jumping sideways in the corner. the point is, it sounds like the ram donor truck the kit was installed on was a bad choice to start. if you called mopar and had them spec you a truck, you wouldnt have this problem.

I like both, but the Runner has a Hemi in it which makes it better from the start. Especially when the 2017 ecoboost Raptor is out.
Just wanting to ask, do you have to build the "Ram Runner" yourself from parts? If so it's kind of an unfair comparison to a factory built ride. Most of the handling issues the tester ascribed to the Ram could very well be due to alignment, shock damping/angles, etc. all of which have to be set up by the assembler. Also, wheel and tire package is also up to assembler as well, wrong size could have caused the "gear hunting" he described. All I'm saying is that maybe this particular "Ram Runner" wasn't set up as well as it could have been.
