    On this episode of Chopping Samples follow along as I create my own workflow for easily making lofi beats. Watch as I breakdown the simple and quick method of laying down drums, chopping a sample, recording it all and adding compressor and even side chain compression. Lots of little EP-133 tips and tricks, stick around till the end for a preview of the full uncut video, available exclusively on my patreon.

      Oh, and how does the Auto-Chop actually work? I thought it was transient based and you can't tell it bar length and bpm like Koala to give equal chops? The manual says it uses beat tracking. "the sample chop point is auto detected using beat tracking, populating from bottom left to top right. use (minus)/(plus) to decide on the number of slices." 🤔

      Honestly it sounds completely random to me but I’ve barely used it too, usually manual chop is my go to

    Another tip for mixing is to hit shift - output. Then find the output compressor and use the x and y knobs until you get the sound you like. It’ll give your beats that extra knock!
    * edit: I wrote this comment before I saw you used the fx compressor. I used to do the same before I found out about the output compressor. I think that’s the sound you want to go for and now you can free up that on board fx for something else.

      Thanks for the comment bro great minds think alike 🙏 I haven’t messed with the settings outside of the output compressor too mmuch I still need to tap in

    Congrats 🎉 when chopping trying holding the pad for the desire length

    • @BirdBoss
      @BirdBoss  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great tip, I like to change the length to max so I can kind of let the chop hang every once in a while like not immediately cut to the next one if that makes sense

      I feel that 100, I’m new to beatmaking after years of wanting to learn, being a videographer and photographer for years now having a baby it’s harder to get out of the house. Finding a few minutes at home to work on some music has been life altering in my creative space.
      I’m bout to grab that patreon, do you go over digitizing the beat onto the r4?? I need to learn how to do that hah😅

    • @BirdBoss
      @BirdBoss  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @portrasoft I haven’t gotten around to making a r4 video but I will say i distorted a few beats by not checking my levels. Make sure headphones are up in the r4 and input is all the way down, then slowly bring it up until it sounds good.

      Can you gimme a quick rundown on the cables ins n outs for the r4 to the ko2? Using a 3.5 to xlr into the r4? Or just standard aux? Cant tell if you have the mic plugged into it or just the pad

    Love from colombia!! how do you record the audio of the EP 133? how it calls the device you have beside the sampler and what is his function?

    • @BirdBoss
      @BirdBoss  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Zoom R4 parce! I like it’s built in mic, 4 track mixer, built in effects and compressor, etc
      I used to use a focusrite interface but I like the recorder I’m now using because I don’t need a phone or laptop what so ever, and it runs on batteries.
      It’s great for my videos because I have my camera, I have my sampler, and the audio for my vocals (and my sampler) are recorded into the Zoom R4. When I’m done I pull out the SD card and can start working with the files on my iPad

      This video below is a little old but should work just the same in getting EP-133 beats off the machine and into your phone or laptop:

    That the new Zoom R4 there too, how do you find it?

    • @BirdBoss
      @BirdBoss  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Love it the on board effects are very nice sounding just gotta figure out why it’s distorting on me I’m probably recording too loud, you can lower the volume and bounce it to a more appropriate volume though, I should prob read the manual 🤣

  • @SubarmineHorse
    @SubarmineHorse 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Pity we can't chop in equal increments instead of the auto chop. Congrats too!

    • @thekeysman6760
      @thekeysman6760 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For that the sampler has to first know the bar length and bpm of the sample. Like Koala can do.

    • @thekeysman6760
      @thekeysman6760 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And Interestingly, the manual implies that Auto-Chop isn't necessarily transient based. "the sample chop point is auto detected using , populating from bottom left to top right. use (minus)/(plus) to decide on the number of slices."
      So maybe it does actually do what you mentioned.

      @thekeysman6760 The guide is terrible though, for real. They really need a printable PDF version with all info about the device. The guide leaves out way to much.

      @@SubarmineHorse Agreed, wish it just came with a printed version. Having to scan a qr code from my phone to read it is just plain obnoxious
