Gotta add to the list too - When you do the manual chop it should work like on the Maschine and MPCs (sp too I believe), hitting a pad you already hit before should skip back to that one. I think they mentioned that samplers have become too bloated, and they wanted to return to a more straight forward workflow, so I doubt they will be adding a ton of new features.

Yeah that ‘KEYS’ button, could have been called ‘PAD.FUNC’ , and you tap it to cycle through its function , with screen txt feedback of selected mode e.g. Keys, Filter, Velocity , Trigger Quantize

Funny thing is, that TH-cam isn‘t flooded with reviews and tutorials. Almost all the usual suspects (BoBeats, loopop, accurate Beats etc) haven‘t done videos yet…. You are second to cuckoo out of my TH-cam rotation to have made a video or to be able to get hold of a unit

all your criticisms are right. for the velocity i think you are supposed record the part then go into the slider velocity control and record the velocity with the slider.

The thing that's goin on with the fader is that if you press too much on it, the connection inside just bends and doesn't work anymore. This happens either when people put the knob thing on it, which is one of the tightest to put on, or either when it gets shipped, the box gets pushed among other stuff which pushes the fader and does the thing. The only found way to fix it is by taking apart the unit, then take out the fader with some soldering equipment then re-bend it to the right position. Or you could send it back to te so that they can fix it.
The file names is honestly not that bad, you can preview them pretty quickly so it actually feels intuitive. And if you really wanna see it you can hold the key down to do that
Yeah you can change between tick and bar but if you have 4 bars in your sequence you have to wait until the last one before switching, and it misses notes in the transition.

Anyone else notice he didn't put the cross fader knob on? haha ... there is a hack to get the knob on, you just take a small pair of thin needle nose pliers and hold the metal stem and then push the knob on.

Unless they create a software to let you bring projects back into the unit it’s probably a build and dump into a daw thing. It’s not like the device remembers settings.

Yeah so weird! Every other parameter works so either I messed something up or it was a bug. I show the jungle drums part quickly in the sampling part, just sampled the amen break and chopped it up. Might make a more detailed one w some tips if i have time 👌🏻duplicating bars would be handy af

TE completely lost me with the Field series, with its ridiculous pricing, but I’m happy they didn’t violate this time around. Also it really hits the spot design-wise, as a former mpc60 user.

Pretty sure there is an issue right now with the fader breaking when you attach the knobs yourself. People are not attaching their knobs because of that so maybe thats why he didnt use it
OP-Z was really a shitty build, I’ve had 2 and they both had something wrong + so many other people did. This feels much sturdier, we’ll see with time what happens with time, and if more people mess their sliders up
Yeah a lot of portable boxes have that for some reason, sucks but at least this lasts for a long time, you won’t have a hard time replacing a specific battery in the future (try OP-Z it’s damn near impossible already), and you don’t have to wait to recharge it 🙂

How does the machine sound though? Does it have its own converters, does it knock? Sound weak? or does all teenage engineering gear have a similar sound to it? Can’t imagine it has any ad/da converters, and these are basically toy’s with a mini computer inside.
I mean you get what you put in and how you shape it, kinda dry just like any machine past the 12-bit era. We're way past those times where just sampling and playing something back has a distinct character, except for some niche products. AD/DA converter means analog to digital, digital to analog. All gear with an audio interface have them, it's what turns current into something that a machine can process and output.
In short, more fun and hands on imo, the SP404 MK2 is much more convoluted and confuses a lot of newcomers to the point where they just give up, but on the other hand you can do a lot more with it.
It's so damn annoying how this thing can be so cool and so flawed at the same time. I want some other company to make a properly competing box without all the obvious flaws even if you have to pay 100 or 200 more. Hello next generation Circuit
There’s a shorter way to turn on the velocity. Hit Shift+Erase and type in 301 and Enter. Also, you can change the Scene to switch with bar end, instead of right away. Shift + Erase and 411 and Enter. Section 14 in the manual is quite handy for those shortcuts. That outro beat is pure 🔥🔥🔥
it forces you to finish beats. when you fill up the projects, just finish the beats to get them off. I also wiped all the sounds from my unit so that I just loadesd my own sounds. I did save the original sounds ofc

Thanks man! Yes an no, if you have SCN set to BAR in the system settings, holding shift and using the -/+ buttons will skip to the next bar after the current bar ends. So you have to press it after the last bar of the scene has started.
ok the thing that you have to be on time switching pattern is a big bummer... i mean in live situations where you are maybe trippin around many buttons and pots you can't also deal with being "millisecondly" precise on the switch. i mean you can, but that's a wasteful amount of concentration to do that. and it's something so easy to implement in a firmware that i am really wondering if they programmed this thing like in the spare time... kinda dumb thing imho..
Yeah I think I didn’t make it clear in the video, if you do it during the last bar you’re good. N I’ve had some missed notes. But you should be able to switch anywhere in the pattern and have it wait until its played through

Yeah you don't need to worry about losing the position it snaps right back, same goes for the FX that manipulate time
I believe you programmed the knobs position in the fx setting before… just a wild guess but it could be an idea :)

It is yes, in the system settings you can set key and scale. You can also transpose the range of the pads by semitone and not just octave

I own a smpltrk, tracker, KO2 and an MPC live, and some Eurorack samplers. I’d recommend the tracker or the KO2 as a 1st sampler for sure.

Yeah a lot of portable boxes have that for some reason, sucks but at least this lasts for a long time, you won’t have a hard time replacing a specific battery in the future (try OP-Z it’s damn near impossible already), and you don’t have to wait to recharge it 🙂
It’s a nice piece of gear but I think that the 404 sounds kinda better idk

sp404 less intuitive, but can do more. personally, I'm waiting few months and see what ppl say then once they're past their "new gear honeymoon"... I feel like maybe this thing could be lots of fun for a few days & then collect dust.

How does the machine sound though? Does it have its own converters, does it knock? Sound weak? or does all teenage engineering gear have a similar sound to it? Can’t imagine it has any ad/da converters, and these are basically toy’s with a mini computer inside.
I mean you get what you put in and how you shape it, kinda dry just like any machine past the 12-bit era. We're way past those times where just sampling and playing something back has a distinct character, except for some niche products. AD/DA converter means analog to digital, digital to analog. All gear with an audio interface have them, it's what turns current into something that a machine can process and output.

How’s it compare to the SP404 MK2 if someone was gonna choose between those two?
In short, more fun and hands on imo, the SP404 MK2 is much more convoluted and confuses a lot of newcomers to the point where they just give up, but on the other hand you can do a lot more with it.

There’s a shorter way to turn on the velocity. Hit Shift+Erase and type in 301 and Enter.
Also, you can change the Scene to switch with bar end, instead of right away. Shift + Erase and 411 and Enter.
Section 14 in the manual is quite handy for those shortcuts.

it forces you to finish beats. when you fill up the projects, just finish the beats to get them off. I also wiped all the sounds from my unit so that I just loadesd my own sounds. I did save the original sounds ofc

Thanks man! Yes an no, if you have SCN set to BAR in the system settings, holding shift and using the -/+ buttons will skip to the next bar after the current bar ends. So you have to press it after the last bar of the scene has started.

You can set in the system to swtich to BAR for the scene switching where it would switch at the end of the BAR, not instant. Just fyi.
Yeah but you still have to be at the last bar of the pattern. Also, when you switch by typing in the pattern number it switches instantly regardless

ok the thing that you have to be on time switching pattern is a big bummer... i mean in live situations where you are maybe trippin around many buttons and pots you can't also deal with being "millisecondly" precise on the switch. i mean you can, but that's a wasteful amount of concentration to do that. and it's something so easy to implement in a firmware that i am really wondering if they programmed this thing like in the spare time... kinda dumb thing imho..
Yeah I think I didn’t make it clear in the video, if you do it during the last bar you’re good. N I’ve had some missed notes. But you should be able to switch anywhere in the pattern and have it wait until its played through
