This wasn't mentioned in the video, but for 2015+ STi's with Haltech systems, a company called 14point7solutions makes a plug and play adapter for the Elite 2500. Just wanted to put that out there

Based on my research (and it’s extensive because I’ve been planning out a stand-alone build for a year) there is NO aftermarket ECU which will handle emissions monitor checks or be passed by an OBD2 emissions test. Some aftermarket ECUs can be connected to the OBD2 port for canbus communication so something like a diagnostic scan-tool will still pick up codes and data pids. But if you live in an OBD2 emissions state the car will not pass because even if a scan tool can communicate with the stand-alone it won’t report any completed emissions monitors.

Great video as always- I have a 2012 wrx, is my best option at this point to go open source? I have flex fuel kit, catless, TGV and secondary air deletes
Say you were building karma right now instead of last year... You've got the 1300cc injectors, made fuel lines/dual pump in tank, you have the full $800 Cobb flexfuel kit and now you have to decide if you're going to work with the castrated Access Port/ comply with emissions (evap, charcoal canister, tgv, cated dp) and just run a 93octane map/ have the second map for ethanol.... Or do you say fudge it $$$ and go standalone. Where I'm at now, I was building "The Karma specialrecipe" with +2mm rods minus the rotated turbo and AMS intake manifold... But instead of the BC valve train in karma I have ferrea valve train/tomei poncams and ported heads. I've only got an FP Blue, flexfuel was so easy last month I literally just wanted to see how far I can push a stock location JB turbo with a mild cam and porting. I think I'm tapping out on e85 for now/ just enjoy it as a headache free 93 octane street car... The extra $ + inconvenience of checking ethanol content at the pump like it's 2011 again and switching maps or $$$ standalone and find a tuner comfortable with whatever you have.
Personally I'd say fudge it and get the standalone, if I'm already in that deep I'd just send it and do everything proper 🙏 think you'd be happier long term with full functionality
Hey! How is working with haltech ecu? I am building an rx7 with a chevy 350. I will be building the harness. Any thoughts, recommendations, tips, tricks? Complaints?
This is a good general guide! Would a standalone make a 5EAT to 5MT swap easier? Asking because my legacy is auto, and I'm trying to find the easy way to swap (and a new car isn't an answer because that would be cheating)
@@Smeedia this might be my (albeit more expensive) ticket to my dream setup with a DCCD! And better tunability! As far as cost goes I saw that mega squirt makes a pretty cheap non plug and play ecu and harness for my 04 sti. It is $360 but my question is would this be a cheaper option in the end if I am already having my engine torn apart for a rebuild? Link is $1600 so as long as labor installing a wiring harness isn’t over a grand do you think that is a viable cheap option? I just don’t know much about ecu’s and as long as I can tune it and it has launch control and flat foot shifting I’m good.
I'm currently stuck in no-mans land, too many mods to stick with Cobb but not really there for standalone on the stock bottom end. Open source doesn't seem to be the answer for speed density/flex fuel/ ect. Either. Might have to drop coin on the haltech 2500 elite pnp unless my tuner can work magic.
Just the content i need to hear brother💪, just when im about to continue my build, so I spoke with my tuner he told me to stand by on buying more parts, so theyre trying to find out a solution to tune it right in order to use the tgv, e85 air pump delete and all that crap cobb made it complicated to us...🤞
What I've found out sofar for us GD sti guys 04-06 tgvs are side feed injector rails/ this is a problem since the tgv deletes are also top feed fuelrail conversions... The TGV sensor is identical to the TPS sensors, should be able to plug in 2 spare TPS sensors and bam the check engine light should stay off/ I'm going as far as milling dummy flanges to weld on to the aftermarket tgv deletes in the stock location. Thoughts anyone?

Tanner, I need some help bro.. my '05 Outback XT motor is done. I bought a jdm ej20x to swap on, but it's dual AVCS. The swap seems to work using the jdm block/heads along with the USDM Intake manifold/ turbo and Exhaust manifold. All sensors/switches plug in except the exhaust AVCS sensors, which people leave unplugged. The thing is, my car came modified and tuned for a catless DP, CAI and Grinspeed Boost Controller; however, I was never given its tune or Access Port, it was probably open source. Now I'm afraid to swap the jdm motor and damage it due to those existing mods on my car. I heard iwire makes a merge kit to control the jdm exhaust AVCS sensors, but I'd need a jdm ECU. What a headache man.. What do you recommend I do? Do I have any options or should I return the motor while I still can? Thank in advance!
So when you are referring to ej25 is the ej257 in that category or am i mistaken? I have a built ej257 sti engine that should hold 500 hp and my goal is 330/350 awhp would i need a standalone for that or

Well I have the boomslang in my hands.. I’m just trying to justify ordered the ecu blind and not knowing what is actually going to not work and what is… ya know ?
Let’s get Tanner to 100k before summer! Let’s go Noti Gang!
Let's goooo 🥳🥳🥳
Great video as always- I have a 2012 wrx, is my best option at this point to go open source? I have flex fuel kit, catless, TGV and secondary air deletes
Yessir, heard that Eric at torqued performance is doing open source 🔥
@@Smeedia will look into him, thanks !
@Smeedia yep, just talked to Eric. He said flexfuel tune will be end of 2023
Say you were building karma right now instead of last year...
First to comment PowerRage for the win
Power range? 🤔
@@SmeediaI believe he is power rage STI in discord xD
Yup lol @ David black
Man I appreciate the hard work thank you!
Anytime 🥳🥳
What about the immobilizer? Can a Haltech stand-alone bypass the factory immobilizer?
Hey! How is working with haltech ecu? I am building an rx7 with a chevy 350. I will be building the harness. Any thoughts, recommendations, tips, tricks? Complaints?
Excellent explanation, experience based 👍
🙏🙏🙏
This is a good general guide! Would a standalone make a 5EAT to 5MT swap easier? Asking because my legacy is auto, and I'm trying to find the easy way to swap (and a new car isn't an answer because that would be cheating)
It should since your eliminating the TCM, 🙏
@@Smeedia this might be my (albeit more expensive) ticket to my dream setup with a DCCD! And better tunability! And since my car is an 05 LGT, I don't have a lot of CANBUS stuff to worry about (steering wheel controls don't exist, except for the sport shift, and wheel speed sensors being CAN might be more). Gonna look more into it! Thanks!
Wish there was more than just motec for the fa platform
perfect timing... mines in the mail
Ohhh yesss 🔥🔥🔥
What matters more when looking for a stand alone your year and model Subaru or your engine? I will have ej25 but in a 2002 wrx.
For the most part engine and can protocol will be biggest influence
@@Smeedia ok thank you so much! Do you think I’ll need a new engine wiring harness for the swap?
What cylinder heads are you using? 🙏
@@Smeedia I was planning on using MAP stage 1 cylinder heads. Would they hold 600 safely
SO MUCH Great info here! Thank you as always for guiding the Subi community in the right direction 🙌🙌
Any standalone &/or plug-&-play for LGT or Forester XT?
I saw link and haltech had some options 🥳
watch out for that though, I think the plug and play stuff for haltech is just for AUS and JDM cars (atleast for legacys), not sure about link.
@@ZackXJ Good to know! & Good I'm just going open source for my tune next month then 👌
Gonna put a standalone in my public road car now 😂😂🤌
I won't tell if you won't 🤫🤣
@Smeedia, my tuner said get Haltech 2500 and boomslang.
Please do video on opensource with flexfuel.
I didn't see anything on legacy gt and outback, but I'll assume that haltech has it being you mentioned 06-10 wrx
Only legacy stuff I saw for PnP was for AUD models 🙏 but a few pin outs and you could modify a harness
I know I couldn't use haltech with my setup I working towards have to use a AEM to work with the avcs and the eight injector ill be running
Going to be a wild set up 🔥
@@Smeedia going to use 1050 cc for primary and 2000cc for secondary. I'm trying to hit 35psi boost at 3500rpm aiming for that 800 hp at that rpm and stupid trq
So do you still need to stick with your factory imobilizer with the haltech 2500 elite plug and play? My guess is no just wanna be sure :)
You don't mention a single one for the EZ36. :(
Haltech can give you one set up with the 2500 elite...
Only saw an option for the EZ30 but for AUD models only 👀
I couldn't help but notice the only cars not mentioned...11-14. Any information on those cars? Just trying to figure out what route to go to with my build.
Motec or emtron 🙏🙏
@@Smeedia I was afraid of that lol. Was really hoping for a haltech answer for the price lol..onto motec it is!
you know much about tactrix? heard people use them before and they work great on the older chassis
I do 🔥 have a separate video I will make on that 🤙
As far as cost goes I saw that mega squirt makes a pretty cheap non plug and play ecu and harness for my 04 sti.
It could be viable, but I would double chdck soecs on thr Mega squirt to make sure it can perform all functions needed
Hopefully thr tuner can work some magic 🔥
You need to do one about open source!
It's on my list 🤙
@@Smeedia some of the 2002 WRX models are now “historic” and therefore are emissions exempted if you run those plates!
More great info, but who was playing the harmonica 🤣
Lol did you like it!? 😅
Would the amount of HP be something that'll play into choosing either opensource or standalone? Let's say top out at around 450- 500?
450-500 I'd use open source or the AP 🙏
Just the content i need to hear brother💪, just when im about to continue my build, so I spoke with my tuner he told me to stand by on buying more parts, so theyre trying to find out a solution to tune it right in order to use the tgv, e85 air pump delete and all that crap cobb made it complicated to us...🤞
I heard some people are looking for work arounds at the moment 🔥
@@Smeedia 🤞🤞🤞we'll see bro....eager to see The Blue Devil H6 ripping the Dyno!🔥
Following on this! Specially the air pump delete. I don’t have to deal with the rest of it… yet! lol
@@Smeedia JR tuned says he can do those things now still. And even in the future
My car is running too lean and have check engine light o2 sensor low efficiency sounds like I need a tuneup?
Tune up is not a bad place to start 🙏
Best thing to do is talk to your tuner instead of buying the first thing you see. The tuner will help you more than the internet and even smeedia
Edit: no offense smeedia
No I'm 100% in agreement with you, this video was just made to answer the questions I was getting 🥳
Hi appreciate the content and love the channel but this has me confused. Is it possible to get 330whp with a Cobb access port on a 2016 sti without egr delete ect or will I have to look elsewhere thanks
Yes it is very possible 🥳
Happy days haha
What happened to the 2011 to 2014 WRX and STI’s? We get no love?! 😢
Emtron for 08+
All I could find 😪
@@Smeedia sounds like I have a lot of digging and learning to do! 👍🏽 keep up the good work brother! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
@@Smeedia so there is no haltech ecm's for 11-14? OR there's just no plug & play options? OR there is no canbus connections? you should make a separate vid for us 11-14 wrx/sti peeps cuz i know there's TONS of us!!
They stopped at 2010, they don't have full Can support it sounds like
No joy for Legacy GT, Forester XT, Baja Turbo tweakers.
Only found options for AUD Models 😭
Is there any sort of plug and play ECU’s for 2012 STi’s?
I'm now more confused then before. What's now good for Sti 2017?
Hey tanner do you have any info on the exedy slave cylinder? Is it good or would u prefer OEM?
Normally I just use OEM 🙏
@@Smeedia ok thanks bro
I tried to have a look at cobbs green power thing for the AP in AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 & its non existent. Looks like we’re not getting this crap down under.
Hopefully you guys are safe 🤞🤞🤞
hey bro cheers for the video, would you know what ecus would apply to my year Subaru ? its a weird year and model I cant seem to much information about them on the net.
its a - 2007 Impreza s-gt manual hatchback narrow body. a lot of places on the net don't even say they done this shape in 2007 so it confuses me abit
I haven't seen anything about it, if you wanted to do a standalone you may have to make your own harness for it
I get stand alones are really good but there is still open source which I have been using on my sweedish cars for over 10 years. Can you cover what cables/programs work with subarus? I'm still really new to this platform
Open source is fantastic and have a doffrent video lined up for that. This was attributed for stand alone only 🙏
@@Smeedia I look forward to it! Please if possible get into different cable options.
@@Smeedia hey I have an idea and you have the connections. I have no idea how to PM on TH-cam though and can't find d you on FB for some reason
Instagram is the best bet 🥳
What about keeping the OEM ECU and using opensource tuning or some other tuning software that isn't COBB?
My tuner is allowing me to tune my 08 LGT open source w/ no extra cost (already had tune scheduled though) so just ask your tuner & see if they can
Definitely an option for EJs, not so much FAs
2005 STI drivetrain in a GC8 RS shell - from Haltech, is the Elite 2500 my only option? Not able/worth using the “lesser” models (Eg Elite 1500)?
And any thoughts on AEM v LinkG4?
AEM and link are fantastic, haltech is thr only one I have experience with so I'd say haltech.
The 1500 should be sufficient for the car
Anything for 2012 WRX? Seems like they stopped at 2010. 😢
Emtron seems to be thr only option I've seen 😬
Some one just crack the Access tuner already, We can donate
Heard some people have 🤫
Tanner, I need some help bro.. my '05 Outback XT motor is done.
I have a built ej257 sti engine that should hold 500 hp and my goal is 330/350 awhp would i need a standalone for that or
You would not need a standalone, the accessport is more than sufficient 🤙
What would you recommend for a 2004 wrx with 2.5 hybrid motor? Just looking to get it running, nothing special
I didn't quite get what was a good ECU for 2004 STi...
Can some body send me a suggestion, plz!
What about 08-14 sti
Emtron will be your best bet
So where do I start for a 2011 STI Hatch? 😭
Emtron seems like the best option 😭
Didn't hear many options for a 2004 sti
What would you recommend for the most tuning options
Haltech, motec, emtron, Link, AEM there's alot out there.
Personally I prefer haltech
Question: I was wondering if your push to start button still works and if directly wired to the keyless access CM or wired directly to the standalone? I sent a message on IG as well. Thank you!
It's wired to the CM, works like oem 🥳
What about megasquirt?
