@@TheOrlandoTrustfullI’ve never been famous and I don’t wish to be but I can imagine for some it is overwhelming enough for people to depend on drugs/alcohol in order to cope. The people surrounding her (barring her family) were bad influences, of course, but even without them, considering the times she voiced her inability to handle fame, I doubt she would’ve stayed sober anyway. Many celebrities are the same. There was actually a 90’s culture called heroin chic because of it lmao. Kate Moss is still only really known as the coke addicted model.
Oh I’m with you! I wish someone could have saved her long enough for her to pull herself together and come out the other side stronger. She still had so many stories to tell us.
R.I.P. sweet Amy 💔 She was burying her broken heart😢I cry every time I watch it. The headstone read 'Here Lies The Heart Of Amy Winehouse', but it was removed after her sudden death....so profound. I agree, this song is perhaps the best song ever written - it got me thru so many dark times.....Amy had that incredibly unique gift of being able to connect with those who were in pain. Her autobiographical lyrics, her music but combine that with her effortlessly amazing voice and you have a *LEGENDARY* artist....gone far too soon....this world & fame was too much for her to cope with. She wrote her 'Back to Black' album when she was only 22....joined the '27 Club' in 2011- I'll never forget the day she died....I adored her.... She battled bulimia in her teens/20's, alcoholism/drug addiction in her 20's and the scumbag of a husband that destroyed her (‘Back To Black’ is about him).....he was so toxic, but tragically she paid the price for loving him. Listen to ‘Love is A Losing Game’, ‘You know I'm No Good’, ‘Rehab’ and a couple of covers - ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’ or Hathaway's 'I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know' - haunting and such emotive vocals...basically what she did best🖤 PS Check out her acoustic version of 'Back to Black' - her voice didn't need any instruments, that's how talented she was... Sleep well Amy🌹we'll never forget you.
Her song "Rehab" is well worth a listen. Also "Valerie". Lots of others are recommending the acoustic version, but i much prefer the her first version with Mark Ronson. And its a much more uptempo beat. RIP Amy 😢❤
She had such an amazing voice, and such a tragic death only 5 years after this song was released. I know pop music is "sex, drugs, and rock & roll," but someone needs to prevent all the drugs given to young artists. They get hooked, and pass way too soon. I'd love to know what she would've done in a long career.
Amy was one of the best ever! The Funeral is actually for her heart, there are pictures from behind the scenes of the clip where you can see the it’s written on little gravestone “Rip the heart of Amy winehouse” Amy wrote of her songs about her own life experiences and struggles so her albums are like her journal. Would really recommend you to watch the documentary about her life, it’s called “Amy” and it’s an absolutely haunting and enlightening look into her life!
Amy's musical influences were jazz and groups like The Ronettes. These songs are doubly sad when one realizes they're auto-biographical. The world watched her star rise like a rocket ship only to come crashing down just as rapidly. It was horrific watching this great talent self-destruct but we all knew how it would end. Probably, the biggest talent of the last 30 years.
Wine House. She had a remarkable voice and way of presenting her lyrics that was very unique. My favorite song by Amy is called Valery ,it is just a great song!
The song is about her drug and relationship problems. She was a hot mess but with soooo much talent. Her story is soo sad. I cried when I watched her documentary.
She is in a special class of artists. She was emotionally torn apart in life by those she trusted. Life cut short by grief and betrayal. I hope there is Karma. Those who broke her should suffer in kind
I gotta say, I already subscribed to you previously, but your insight in this reaction is very impressive! Incredible song, and Amy (pronounced Wine-house) is awesome!
I surly miss Amy music…The ‘Back to Black’ Album. Need to listen from start to end, her ups and down of life and love, all exposed in that album, through Lyrics & Music.
The video used to say 'Here lies the heart of Amy Winehouse' at the end on the grave stone ( but when she died in real life it was edited out for respect to her family)
Amy composes and sings from her personal experiences, that's why her lyrics are powerful, and they convey those feelings. She was influenced by the great blues divas Billie Holiday Etta James...and as Bono (U2) said "Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief all kill their inspiration and sing about the grief" R.I.P Amy

Black is a nickname for black tar heroin which was the drug that took her life. The man she's singing about is the one who introduced her to it and whenever he would leave her she would relapse.
Weeelll…..not necessarily. Amy Winehouse quit drugs during the last 2 years of her life (some say three) and strictly used alcohol to help with her withdrawal symptoms. It wasn’t drugs that killed her it was alcohol. She died of alcohol poisoning. I don’t know why some people like to spread misinformation but it’s not your fault.
Some say the small box that was placed into the burial was her heart🤷🏻♀️ They were both involved w drugs hence the lyrics you go back to blow (cocaine) and I go back to puff (crack?). My thought is, saying she “treads a troubled track” makes sense that her odds are stacked that she’ll go back to black (depressed, dark, and or total drug induced unconsciousness) 🥺 There’s a biography on Amy, which is very sad in showing how her family and those who stood to make money from her around her, enabling her addiction and exploited her for 💰She wasn’t stupid, and you can tell she was very well aware but just went along with everything. I truly believe she really wanted someone to step up and love her for who she was as a human being, rather than her talents.
I dig the songs that made Amy famous but my fave songs of Amy's are before the beehive. Just one example is her performance of Teach Me Tonight on Jools Holland show 2004, it is striking 🎶🎵💚
“We only said goodbye with words”; that line kills me. Next Amy Winehouse song: “Valerie” the acoustic version where she’s sitting in a chair/couch in a studio with just a guitarist with her; absolutely mesmerizing!!!!! Also, she does an acoustic version of Black as well that is even better than this version . 🔥Unfortunately a member of the 27 club 😢
Honestly, one of the best reactions of this song I have ever heard.....you really understood what Amy was saying at a level most people cannot perceive....
It's Amy WINEhouse, not Winhouse. Amy was a huge star, sadly left us too soon at the age of 27. She won 5 Grammy's in one night for this album (Back to Black), becoming the first British woman to do so and this album was the best selling album in the UK of the 21st century at the time of her death.
She is unfortunately a part of the 27 year club, rock stars that passed away at 27 years old. Jimmy Hendricks, Janice Joplin, Curt Cobain among the list whether from drugs, alcohol, accident to name a few..
I don’t think black in this scenario meant heroin though. Yeah she use to do it but this song right here basically meant she went back to a depressive state. But everyone has their own interpretation I guess.
She was so talented. This has such a haunting melody.🥺 I'm not sure if you've ever heard Johnny B. Goode but you should check it out. My favorite version is by Laine Hardy when he performed it on American Idol in 2019.

Amy Winehouse is a legend. Celebrity did her dirty. I wish someone had been able to save her.
@jimwise "Celebrity" didn't do her dirty, her family and friends did. Don't talk about stuff you have no idea about.
she's was a drug addicted drunk long before she got famous.

Amy Winehouse was a vibe. Such an old soul musically. So talented. Drugs took her way too soon.

As did anorexia/bulemia- which everyone ignored. Some women turn to booze so they won’t eat in this our fatphobic culture.
it was booze.

sensational vocalist/artistry/unfortunate true life stories from Ms Winehouse may she sleep in peace.
Yes! The loss of the love is like a death. A funeral for love and she goes into deep depression.
One of the saddest stories in music...
She was done wrong by those she loved most...her ex and her father really have a lot to answer for
You're very good at interpreting these lyrics on a first hearing. Amy was miraculous.

This song is autobiographical. It happened. Most of her songs are about what down in her life.

Amy's versions of "Love is a Losing Game" and "Valerie" would be good next stops for listening.
I would highly recommend her song Rehab. it’s tragically beautiful but a big part of her life
