I appreciate your emotional response to the singing. We love sinead here in Ireland. The singing, goinng from high whispering notes ro strong raspy noted.is called keening. Its a very peculiar irish way of singing. Its specifically designed to evoke emotions from the audience
Some bastard sneaks up behind me and starts cutting onions every time I hear this song. Every time, he's been doing it to me since the early 90s, one day imma catch him! Man, Sinead was beautiful. RIP
Sinead O’Connor’s delivery of this song is STILL mesmerizing. She passed very recently 😢 Unfortunately, she had a very rough upbringing; I think that must play a part in how soulfully she sings.
Thank you from Ireland for your HEARTFELT reaction☘ We are mourning our beautiful Daughter Sinéad💔We lost her only a few weeks ago....tragic.She was a force of nature with unmatched talent, but she was also very fragile. Please react to her live acapella performance of 'I Am Stretched On Your Grave' - a 17th-century Irish poem that she transformed with just her voice and a 'beat box' sample; She was keening for our Country & it is pure perfection. The media and music industry cruelly shunned her for speaking THE TRUTH about the catholic abuse of innocent Irish children, including herself & she was eventually proven CORRECT - now an acknowledged fact globally. But the damage was already done to her and her career. I hope they're proud of their relentless victim shaming of a 23 year old girl who was brave enough to speak out. Rest easy Sinéad - I hope you're finally at peace with your beloved son, Shane💚
When this song hit the radio airwaves in 1990, music lovers couldn't get enough of it. Between her voice and the lyrics, it just hit different (as you said). I followed Sinéad O'Connor's music from that point forward. Because I've been a fan for 30 years (and because she just passed away this summer), it's particularly poignant to hear by reactors recently. Your reaction captured the intense grief of the song as well as Sinéad's own passing better than any other reactor. Thank you for your courage while revealing your innate vulnerability/empathy as you honored this wonderful Irish vocalist! 🎤😥🎶💚🤍❤
Watching young folks be moved to tears from music I’ve loved for decades is an amazing experience. This is why I love reaction videos! Thank you so much for sharing your raw emotions with us! 🥰
Shon, I think you're one of the best reactors I watch. You really take your what your do very seriously; you do more than just present a song. You truly listen, truly feel, truly express so well. Keep up the great work!
Wow, that hit you right in the feels. I bet your mom loves you right back! You brought back how this song hit me the first time I heard it. That voice.
I'm not sure this is really accurate. There are so many great covers and some times people don't realize they are, ccr and led zeppelin have great hits that are covers. More recently disturbed's sound of silence cover is a great example. The thing is most times covers come from a love for the song and when it's the case it shows. Just going down a list of the top covers can be a shocking experience.
That's too much saying. Musically talking this cover is quite less complicated. Check Prince live version with Rosie Gaines. 😉 Edit: The singing patterns are almost identical, it has a more modern (90s) simple drum-machine (with real cymbals) and puts vocals (as a chorus) without silences between the notes instead of syncopated voices or instruments. I guess an artist of Prince's calibre carries a lot of weight if you're a real musician... I just love both versions (or even all three with the Family version).
Only a master like Prince could write a song like this and only a pure soul like Sinead could sing it like she did. Prince wrote it for a parallel project (The Family) as a man regretting his mistakes with with a girl. There's a live version recorded at Paisley Park, in a duo with Rosie Gaines (powerful soulful amazing voice), Kathy Jensen in the sax, Larry Graham on bass... that is absolutely fabulous. Men can cry, man, it's natural. It just makes you MORE HUMAN.

This is one the most raw performances to include the up close video shots. It's like you can't look away from her intense gaze, and the simplicity of the violins is exquisite. And what makes it even more painful is knowing yes she was in deep thought about her mother who had recently passed. And yet her relationship with her mom was particularly painful in that her mom was horribly abusive toward her. RIP Sinead...❤

When her son committed suicide she lost all will to live. She was just gorgeous here and your reaction & comments were phenomenal and insightful and so empathetic. You are a really good man, Shon.
As soon as her eyes lock into our eyes, we're mesmerised, she smashes through the screen and grabs your heart, a voice of platinum pearls and golden glass, RIP SWEETHEART,
She had a dysfunctional, abusive upbringing, suffered with mental health issues, lost a son to suicide not too long ago, and her own recent death has been rumored to be suicide, as well. Like several great artists, she used her talent to turn her pain into passion and beauty.
Although I loved my mother deeply, and she was never anything but loving and nurturing to me; I can't help but feel deep sorrow for her that her mother was abusive towards her. It leaves us with a feeling of wanting to know more. RIP Sinead..the pain has ceased to exist. ❤

prince wrote this song about ladies and stuff... Sinead covered this song and made it a searing wail of pain about her abusive mother, her death (right before this video) and the sadness of losing someone who you loved but didn't really love you properly and didn't take care of you at all. No wonder Prince recognized this as her song. Shon, you're killin it reppin for moms fr fr. A real one. Seriously.
I still have this song on cassette single. Another song with similar themes of loss is 1989's "Thinking of You" by Sa-Fire, who dedicated the song to the memory of her belated uncle.
Thanks for this one Shon! Enjoyed the reaction a lot. The double/triple with the flowers line is that yes, her mum died right before this, but also that her mum abused her and the relationship was tough all along... but still.. that's your mum right? This shit always wrecked me. Relationships are tough, family can be tough and all that. Anyway, thanks again for doing this one. RIP Sinead and RIP Prince.

Please keep sharing, smiling, crying and loving. Your spirit is contagious!
She had a long career and 10 albums. Don't stop with this one! Check Mandinka, Emperor's New Clothes, Daddy I'm Fine, I am Stretched on Your Grave, No Man's Woman...
prince wrote this song about ladies and stuff...
Nice reaction brother, special song with lots of meaning and sung by a beautiful soul, we've all shed a tear to this,so no shame just love .
I’ve heard this a million times over the last 30 years but I never heard the story about her mom passing. It really hit different after learning that. It had me crying as well. Never did that before.
This dude is one of the most charismatic people on TH-cam.
Sinéad was so beautiful in that time! One of the first singers I fell in love with. Hope she rest in peace!
I lost my mom in 2020..... I miss her every day. My mom was the most loving person I've ever known
Great reaction Shon, we may all look different however we all hurt the same and this song has the power to bring us all together, great reaction Ahon, love from Ireland. RIP Sinead
The doctor was a fool, we all have a true love
Sinead was an aspiring model. She was beautiful. She could stayed silent and let herself be photographed without ever saying a word and made millions, but she chose a harder, higher path.
She took slings and arrows for the positions she took, but it was what she was meant to do.
