Broken and misarble but she had swagger for days! She's done more in 27 years (as have the other 27 club members) than people would do in a life time. Bless their souls
So do I. Jazz is one of the few musical styles I have nothing but respect for, because the musicians are so dedicated to their craft and they know what they're doing.
I know from growing up in the UK, Amy Winehouse really kind of defined a generation of music for a lot of people here, her songs were so ubiquitous and she was one of those rare artists that people from all sides of the musical spectrum could agree was a massive talent and appreciate. Unfortunately though, the British press were absolutely fixated on her and were pretty brutal with her, I can recall how she was hounded by the media and the paparazzi in the UK until the day she died, in a way that we hadn't really seen since Lady Diana. It's truly a shame that we lost a great talent so soon, I can imagine how much more fantastic music she had left in her to create.
I was thinking this fairly recently re the British media treatment of Winehouse. Really shameful, and I don’t think they’d be able to get away with it today. Crazy how things have changed in a short amount of time. She was a true talent and should be remembered as such here.
I remember watching the tribute concert for Amy Winehouse after her death and Adele performed at the event. She even said that she wouldn't be the artist and singer she is today if it wasn't for Amy Winehouse who inspired her and so many other artists.
She was a hardcore music legend in so many ways!!! I love the one and the only Amy Winehouse! No one wrote or sang like her ever and she will forever be missed
Growing up with Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, you can hear it in her music. She was a songwriter that didn't play. She was so beautiful and honest. Look at her young performances. She was a bright light.
I dig it! As a long time metalhead most popular music leaves me cold. This song in particular really got to me when I first heard it, and I purchased the album soon after. Such a great album, such a great talent. I miss her.
I am so happy I found this video because Amy Winehouse means everything to me. Like you for real just earned a new sub and I can’t wait to share this with my friend group. As for where to start next Amy’s other big hit was “You know I’m no good”. Which is basically a Jazz orchestrated tango with Hip Hop style drum patterns. But another good song of hers would be “Stronger than me” which most definitely shows her swag and cheeky writing style.
8:30 I'm with you. How can you get the chords this quickly? His ear training must be spotless. I play guitar since over 35 years, I'm not even halfway there.
Chord/scale relations. If you know the scale (via the melody) and the tonic, figuring out the chords is usually pretty easy. Tonic, subdominant, and dominant is usually what you figure out first.
Even though she had some technique to her singing I think she's a perfect example of conveying emotion being so much more important than perfect technique when it comes to certain types of music
i really enjoy this channel since it's got some actual analysis and not just a slack-jawed "reaction" lol. i would really love for you all to check out the song Inner Sanctum by Armory. They're a relatively unknown power metal band but the songwriting and musicianship is world-class.
As a metalhead myself i would really love to watch you listen to some Archspire or Inferi, it's technical death metal with many ideas taken from classical music.
@@benharris144 In a way, she had a problem with both but managed to get off the smack. In the years after she was just drinking, it was the drink that killed her with a blood alcohol of 5 times the legal limit when she was found dead.
Great Nu-metal band! Thanks for the reaction. I highly recommend to take a listin and react to Stargazer by Nightwish(Live with Floor Jansen). It has some opera elements too!
First time this early! Was hoping to maybe get a Children of Bodom reaction :) one of the best melodic death metal bands out there, and they take a lot of classical inspirations in their first album. Also have a keys player so Judson could go n depth on that
Rad! and this was really cool, Back to Black has some phenomenal songs. Devastating to imagine what kind of musician and woman she could have been if she’d made it through.
Here’s a testament to your channel, I never listened or thought about this artist. Not a fan of pop culture but eventually I give things a try and enjoy it. Hence my watching this reaction 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻
Or Tommy the cat.. or, as a pick no one else has seemed to have on any reaction channels, American Life, or Is It Luck? But any Primus is good Primus, it's always gonna be weird, interesting, and indefinable as any genre or anything other than Primus
I was never a fan but at the same time, I've not disliked anything I've heard of hers. Certainly unique and most of the time that's all that matters. Ps. Still amazed by Judson's ear to hand coordination.
Hello I just discovered this channel and it'pretty cool. I have a suggestion for a next reaction - Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold. It's some sort of symphonic metal Edit: make sure to check out the full version of the song, not the radio edit
He suggested doing a “pop” song. During the conversation, he mentioned Amy Winehouse. I knew the name but none of her music, so we went with it. Really glad we did.
Haha, actually quite impressive to have never heard her name or music (actively) until she died. A great pop song now and then can't hurt and you two still make great picks. When is Adele going to be reviewed? :P@@Greatmeasures
@@sjorsvandongen3464 I feel like you’re listening in on our conversations. 😂 We recently discussed listening to her as well. We’ll probably do that the next time we get together, which should be this weekend.
@@Greatmeasures Sweet! Adele is different type of singer of course (had her own struggles) and is actually the obvious go-to choice after Amy.. As you two seem to be into what I consider to be 'quality music': if you like a more leftfield 'poppy' choice, i'd recommend Lady Blackbird, and then especially the album Black Acid Soul. She is such a mature and soulful jazz singer (just for your own entertainment) I love the fact that you are changing it up by listening to each others musical choices. Great stuff!
I can't help but suggest you check out 10-year-old Angelina Jordan's version of this song. (If your initial reaction to that is, "Eh… I'm not really into child singers", don't worry: she doesn't sound like any 10-year-old you've ever heard.) She couldn't sing Amy's original lyrics (even the version of the song that you listened to here was censored in one spot, because of a particularly crude reference to male anatomy in the first verse), so she totally rewrote them from scratch in one day. Then she rehearsed and recorded the song with a small orchestra the next day, using an arrangement of Amy's music. And then the resulting "music video" was released the day after that. th-cam.com/video/LbXUKzOxACU/w-d-xo.html She was working with a subset of the in-house orchestra for the Norwegian radio broadcaster NRK, which explains the quick turnaround time. (Just for the record, her performance was very nearly captured live: she apparently only recorded two full takes, the seond of which constitutes almost the entire final product.) Anyway, not to "spoil" anything, but she really "leans into" the somewhat "monotonic" nature of Amy's vocal melody, so I can't say it's one of my favorite covers of hers to listen to. But she sings it quite well, and in her "Amy voice", so the effect is quite surprising to most people. (She is endlessly compared to Amy Winehouse, but trust me: she can sing in lots of other ways, as well.) And while I also have a few "issues" with her lyrics (she sings "I cry" one too many times for my taste), there are some real flashes of brilliance in there, too, IMO. (Unfortunately, the version of her lyrics that a web search will turn up - from a certain crowd-sourced lyrics website - is _riddled_ with errors.) If you do react to her, many Angelina fans will come out of the woodwork to give you a ton of information about her and to request lots of other covers and originals. She really is quite a remarkable talent.

Great singer. Why being this messed up gives you this raw style? I mean have you ever seen Billie Holiday (just see her eyes) with Mary Osborne? My God... Mary was killing it though. Greatest and most mysterious artists ever.
Pretty much the whole song and everything about it was stolen from Desmond Decker and the Israelittes......liked her, but this plagarism at it's worst....
Boy no the hell it wasn’t and don’t even start spreading that misinformation. This whole entire song was basically Mark Ronsons interpretation of 60’s girl groups. Specifically the song “Baby Love” by the wonderful Diana Ross and The Supremes. The song melodically samples from the beginning intro but creates an entire instrumental of its own. Making it more sinister with a Bonds like element. Please do your research next time before you type some more foolishness.

So do I. Jazz is one of the few musical styles I have nothing but respect for, because the musicians are so dedicated to their craft and they know what they're doing.
she was also an excellent jazz guitarist, which wasn't even utilized on this album

Also voice leading. IV is 2 notes up from I etc ,
Gosh, that first verse, partly censored, is a total roasting.
voices like this dun come around often, rip amy, hope you're at peace lass.
i heard love is blind is an incredible song by her, the chord progressions, lyrical content, and vocal performance is one of a kind
Her last performance was a duet with Tony Bennett.
This was the censored version. There is a great live, acoustic performance of this that is worth checking out.
I got chills when you started playing the song after the it was done. Really good! You never even heard it before?
Love Is A Losing Game!
Love the duo-reacts and for the next Amy song, I'd say You Know I'm No Good would be the sensible choice!
Even though she had some technique to her singing I think she's a perfect example of conveying emotion being so much more important than perfect technique when it comes to certain types of music
One chord wonderfulness.
This song and postmodern jukebox TH-cam channel have 100 % in common.
