Megamind is really good. Shame there is only one. There are no sequels or anything, it's just one movie and nothing else.
For sure 😭
Yh real shame 😅😅
Yes, what a shame. The only thing we have close to a sequel is the button of doom
Hope they make a sequel someday! 🤞im sure the animation would go hard! 🔥
As much as I'd love a sequel, I feel like they'd screw it up and tarnish this one off masterpiece
Jen: "Is there a 2nd one?"
Everyone: "There is no Easter Bunny... There is no Tooth Fairy... And there is no Megamind sequel and TV series."
Perfect lol 😆
There is no Megamind sequel in Ba Sing Se.
Actually, the Button of Doom was pretty good
@@ALJ9000 Said no one ever.
@@ShayTheValiant No, it’s a short film set after the movie and it’s actually got a decent plot and good humor
“Is there a second one”
“No”
Yes you’re correct Holden lol
Spot on. There is only one Movie. I hope they never try to remake, reimagine, reboot, or make a sequel to it.
Some things just perfect as they are.
@@DocMicrowave yess we don’t talk about mega mind 2.😅
so there's a fan theory i like. metro man became a musician because it's something he can't just succeed at because of his super powers. it's something he had to work at.
“Still warming up sir”
“Warming up? THE SUN IS WARMING UP?”
When Jen quoted Spider-Man, Holden must've gone "God, I love this woman!".
Even the camera started shaking!
19:25 to clarify, Hal was never a good guy. He was just a bad guy that was harmless. When he received power, it just showcased his depravity more.
I suggest you review the Stanford Prison Experiment. I think you'll find that the British historian who said, "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely," was quite correct. None of us are "good guys."
@@robertanderson6929 Stanford prison experiment, came out as proven fake! Did that just change your perception of reality, because I bet it did! Look it up
Hal was a "Nice Guy"
Exactly. Best example was in the beginning of the movie he tries to get Roxy to come over to his place under false pretenses of a party. He was never good.
@@benschultz1784 weak men the most dangerous
I’m glad Holden caught the Hal Stewart name. Having the first name of HAL Jordan and the last name of John STEWART
And Jonah Hill voices Hal Jordan in the Lego Movies too!
Never caught that.
Fun fact at the beginning you can actually see Metro man behind Megamind. With 0.5 second ATTENTION To DETAILS AND BTW THERE IS NO MEGAMIND 2!! EVER
There is no war in ba sing se.
There is no Megamind sequel in Ba Sing Se.
Megamind*
@@laboon344 thanks mate 🔥, I edited it now thanks for the concern king of the pirate hahaha
There's one very cool little detail where at the begining of the movie, Roxanne wears red, which is suggestive of her loyalty to Metroman, given the obvious homage to Superman, then as she starts falling for Megamind, she's wearing purple, which is a mix of red and blue, then at the end of the movie she wears blue, showing her shift in loyalty.
Never caught that. Nice!
Also, right after Metroman's death she is wearing a black coat for mourning. (She's reporting from the museum and then meets "Bernard")
This movie is probably my top 3 favorite animated movies of all time! I can quote this whole movie front to back, I've watched it so many times!
Obligatory comment of the best quotes cut from the reaction
Roxanne whilst Megamind and Metro are arguing about warranties - "Ugh, girls, girls, you're both pretty, can I go home now?"
Warden - "Good luck fellas!"
Megamind - "We're gonna die!" * Laughing *
Warden nods in agreement
Hal - "This is the last time you make a fool out of me!"
Megamind - "I made you a hero... you did the fool thing all by yourself!"
Something i liked was how megamind always mispronounced things like school and spider. I believe because he never finished school. Also did you know Ben Stiller plays Bernard
shoool and speeider
22:52 I mean, he's not wrong on the Queen of England 😂
Lmao. I remember when people were making those jokes on Tik Tok when the queen died lol
So many
Technically, King Charles III wife Camilla is Queen consort
Fun fact: Robert Downey Jr. was originally supposed to be the voice of Megamind, before Will Ferrell took over. He even recorded a few lines before needing to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
some of the footage is online lol
This is a masterful subversion of expectations when it comes to superhero movie. Tighten is great writing showing that powers don’t make the hero
I like Jonah Hill voices him, he even looks a little bit like Jonah Hill. If they ever did a live action Jonah Hill should play him again.
If the dads reaction about his wife getting a baby for Christmas is any indication, metroman probably didn't get any attention or love from his adoptive father. He probably tried to hard to win the love of his classmates to make up for that, to get the attention he wasent getting at home, and why he loves the attention when he became a hero
Both metroman and megamind were pretending to be something they were not because of how they were treated growing up
I will always respect that the movie doesn't pass judgment on Metro Man leaving the superhero life to pursue his passion. By definition it is a selfish choice, but for someone whose life had been as constricted as Metro Man's, you still sympathize with him.
@jacobchandler7642 he spent his entire life protecting the city, he's earned his right to make a few selfish choices
Didn't think about that.
I don't think metroman was "awful". He just wanted to chose a different path where he's not the hero. And he doesn't owe anybody that. Now he can have a normal life.
Everything about this movie is PEAK. Love it. Sucks there was only 1.
That Welcome to the Jungle "PRESENTATION" scene lives in my head rent free.
Hal is the archetype of the “good guy”. The guy that believes he deserves women for being nice. He assumed that he needed to be fit or cool to get girls so when he got powers and that didn’t occur he became upset and threw a tantrum.
You mean "nice guy". Good guy is always good, "nice guys" are guys that only do good things to get what they want.
@@haroldcruz8550i think that’s why “nice guys” are recognized as incells now cuz it gets confused for what you said 😅
@@TheSsjJoker I think you meant 'simp', incels are different
@@haroldcruz8550 true my bad, simps are more in line with that…but still incells do have some similarities to that lol
Eh, whatever you call them, it’s one form of selfish manipulator. They come in every walk of life but the Hal type is convinced that if he can just figure out what “women” like, he’ll have cracked the code and get what he wants. Her being a person who has likes and dislikes different from other women never seems to enter the equation. The only thing about Hal that varies from real incels is that a lot of them complain that women only want bad boys, not “nice guys” like them. So they never own their part in their lack of success.
Some people don’t want to be a hero. Some people don’t want to be a villain and some want to be.
I love how Megamind's space dad disguise looks like a parody of Marlon Brando's Jor-El
Sounds like it too.
25:57 answer to your question is this fantastic movie went against disputable me and megamind went above and beyond on story telling but got put in the shadow of disposable me.
It's a shame. But I do think the first despicable me is good. In a perfect world, they both would get the spotlight. We didn't need 4 despicable me movies, though...
@@mrmouse9476 and counting 😂
Personally I think both Megamind and Despicable Me are great movies. I don't think either needed sequels tho.
@@thunderbandit5172 oh absolutely sometimes if there is no need don’t do a sequels it either saturates the ip or makes the original look bad
This movie does a magnificent job by completely turning the hero genre on its head and gives a compelling story that makes for a great watch.
24:05 That detective is the right answer
29:25 this is such an interesting response because I, and many, got SUCH creeper vibes from Hal. And i really like how they dealt with it. Like a malicious nice guy type. The ones who in the same breath say they are such a nice guy but all women are wh*res for not wanting them.
"What kind of movie is this? The superhero dies? Maybe that's not so bad." LOVE IT! 😂
Such a great representation of a good/kind person with a tough upbringing, but truly wants what’s best for the person he loves (MM) vs the nice guy/incel that only wants to be nice in order to get what HE WANTS (Hal). Big separation.
I love your new setup, Holden. Also, there was going to be a Megamind sequel, but Will Ferrell didn't return to do it or something. I love Megamind, I love it when villains and anti-heroes fall in love and love changes them or has an impact on them.
The sequel was made but basically none of the original actors came back and the story is beyond awful that everyone says there was never a sequel.
A Megamind 2 could work really well.
Megamind, villain turned hero, facing the repercussions of his past actions.
Villain of the movie: Bernard. He's rehydrated after who knows how long, and finds his life in shambles; no job, no place to live (I doubt MM was paying his rent while stealing his identity), perhaps even more personal losses? A family member passed w/o him getting to say goodbye? His s.o sees "him" going on dates with Roxie and dumps him, etc. Angered at MM for these transgressions, Bernard becomes a villain by studying MM (and other villains?), learning their ways and adapting them to fit his own style.
Idk, it just feels like something could have worked. Oh well, I guess there will never, EVER be a Megamind 2. A shame...
That's a crazy good idea! Too bad there has never been a Megamind 2.
Oh man. I never thought about repercussions for Bernard.
I feel like this movie only occurs over 1-2 weeks (Idk havent properly watched in a while), but I guess that's enough time for things to go wrong. If they make a _proper_ #2, that's an idea.
19:25 hahaha thank you so much!
NGL that X-Men arcade cabinet is sexy as hell.
I couldn't agree more. I need something like that.
I’m not gonna lie i’ve been sleeping on Holden Hardman content cuz truthfully i never got into Ice Age as a kid and idk what Anchorman is but then…then he reels me back in with some Megamind and i’m like Hell Yeah let’s watch it. Let’s do it baby!!
"Is there a second one?"
No, no, no, NONONONO!
There is not.
My Only Complaints about this film
My one complaint about the movie itself is that Megamind ends up with Roxie at the end, which mainly comes down to me expecting her to still be attracted to him b/c she likes intelligence, but that after all that he did, from the past villainy and lying to her, that he would have to work his for her trust back. Basically, instead of instantly getting back together where they left off, they do more of a reset back to 0 for him to earn her trust again. I mean I get that he did save her and the city, but still. That's the only change I'd want to see with this film. That and a good sequel, which if they did they could add that in retroactively!
Nice vs Good
To me, the core message of this film, in addition to, "You can be who you want to be, not what society tells you to be," is "the distinction between 'Nice' and 'Good.'" Hal was a nice guy, but he wasn't good, and inversely Megamind was good, but he wasn't nice (though maybe over the course of the film he acquired a little bit of that). Basically Hal was trying to be nice in substitute for being good out of an unhealthy expectation that he DESERVES the girl/woman/person he is being nice to. Meanwhile Megamind was being good b/c it was in his nature to do so despite society not letting him and turning him away from that part of himself. Now, there is nothing inherently wrong with being nice, BUT being nice comes with the **expectation** of getting a reward while being good expects no reward. Basically it is fine to be nice in the correct context, but that context (from what I've found) is between rare to uncommon at best.
As someone who has definitely fallen into that trap of being nice and expecting people to like or love me back, mainly because of being a part of the nerd culture that watched all of these super people and heroes "getting the girl" and confusing being good with being nice, this movie is always an amazing reminder of that lesson and difference between the two, and I hope this message is not lost on others. I've seen too many people on the internet lately fall into the trap of para-social relationships with internet personalities which is similarly adjacent this issue, so I hope especially for those people to learn this type of message.
Megamind vs Despicable Me
As for why this movie never got any sequels (until very recently and was an absolute trash fire money grab) was because just before this movie came out, another movie about a super villain turning good came out called "Despicable Me." Maybe you've heard of it, it is where the Minions characters are from. Basically that movie with a similar premise came out before Megamind by complete coincidence, and the fact that it both came out before Megamind and that movie was WAY more targeted for children (b/c Megamind is definitely more for teens at the youngest with it's topics & themes) it ended up being WAY more successful than Megamind. There are other possible reasons why it did better, like possibly better marketing, idk, but I can imagine that Megamind needing to basically directly compete with that movie is why it never had any actual sequels.
very well written !

@@NK-dt1kpBeing able to articulate thoughts is a good thing.
“Everything Must Go” is another great example of a serious Will Ferrell performance. It’s very good.
“He’s a villain that doesn’t want to be a villain anymore. I’ve never seen this”. What about Loki?
She seriously has pretty bad memory.
Or wreck it Ralph
Well megamind did this first
@@A_foranonymous Awesome. But Jen had only just seen this. And she’s seen marvel before.
@@jonieljoestarzawarudo8172it’s always interesting when I see reactors which don’t retain information.
Hal was a creepy stalker/predator before he got powers. He was on his way to prison regardless.
I agree. From the beginning he was a creep. He was a “nice guy” that wanted a girl that didn’t like him that way. When he got rejected he became even worse.
Yes please due “Stranger Than Fiction”
Thanks for reacting to this. I’ve been waiting for this one.
jen: is there a 2nd one?
holden: HAHAHAHA [flashbacks to vietnam] no
There is apparently a megamind 2 called megamind vs the doom syndicate. Atleast according to Google, haven't seen any commercials for it though. Supposedly released in March 2024 on peacock.
Yeah Megamind 2 is not very good… probably why everyone says it doesn’t exist 😁
Metro man is one of the best representations of super speed I’ve ever seen in a movie. The flash sort of turns his speed on or off, where metro man literally moves so fast at all times that he took his “hiatus” in what he would consider real time, but in reality real time slowed way down. Love it
Pretty sure that's absolutely wrong. We saw him move at a regular human speed even when he thought he was all alone and would have no reason to move in a for him slow motion, returning with the sandwich. So he totally does turn it on and usually has it off.
Move in a what ?
@@laboon344 In what, to To Metro Man, would be slow motion if indeed he was moving at super-speed at all times unless purposefully slowing down as the OP suggests.
I rlly love how they portray megamind's "evil" because yes he does bad things he has such a huge intellect metro man is probably the only person who can provide stimulation to him, and when he goes away you see the facade break to show that he isnt actually evil at all and just wants stimulation for his brain
Megamind is one of my favorite animated movies. Not only a great story that is unique, and great characters and humor. But the soundtrack in this movie is epic.
A sequel tv series just came out earlier this year called "Megamind Rules" on Peacock
Don't mention that trash ever again
In regards to what Holden was saying about Adam Sandler and the more serious films he did. A HUGE one that wasn't mentioned that will truly change how you see Adam Sandler is Reign Over Me. It also starts Don Cheadle, I would describe the movie but I can't think of any way to do so without spoiling it.
I forgot how hilarious this movie was. It's such a good time. Also the new setup looks amazing. X-Men arcade console is the cherry on top
Megamind is back for a direct-to-streaming sequel called Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate.
Well technically they did make a second movie and tie in show but its so bad that everyone just ignores its existence. I also refuse to accept its existence.
Comedians playing serious roles (that I've seen):
Robin Williams
One Hour Photo, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Bicentennial Man, Awakenings, Insomnia, The Butler (he had a small role in this one), The Final Cut,
Billy Connelly
Boondock Saints 1 and 2, The Last Samurai, Mrs Brown, The Man Who Sued God, Still Crazy, The Big Man, The Debt Collector.
Megamind is one of my all-time favourite animated movies.....such classic characters and awesoime script.... it's so so fun and I feel like Will Ferrell had a lot of fun with this character. Such an awesome movie..... Ollo!!
There is a second one as well as two others. Megamind The Button of Doom came out in 2011. Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate came out in 2024 and is available on Peacock. Megamind Rules! Is also 2024 but not where/when it will be available.
There was a direct to streaming sequel on Peacock, but it massively blew
There is a 16-minute short film called Megamind: The Button of Doom and Peacock Original released a series and an animated film.
Megamind Rules !! (series)
And
Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate (animated movie)
PS : Jane doesn't even give "MusicMan" a chance. 😂🤣😂
I like how Jen doesn’t even bother to question Holden DB references like literally never 😂
I'm glad they never made another movie.
Or show.
Or anything else.
Because it's perfect. Perfect. Everything. Down to the last minute detail.
''everybody is fighting over Roxy, i guess... alright.''
Dreamworks comedy is always top notch 😂
speaking of atypical Will Ferrel projects, he's got a Netflix documentary coming up, there's a recent trailer out.
This is a gem of a movie. This reaction should be fun!!!!
I’m dying at Jen and minion’s simultaneous gasp 😂
I love Holden's face when Jen says it's okay that the hero died. 😂
That was perfect 🤣🤣🤣 15:15
Megamind is one of those movies that stays as fun as the first time (if not gets funnier) even after countless rewatches
LOL JEN IS LIKE CHEESE AND CRACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know how everyone loves hypothetical vs scenarios between fictional superhero type characters? Like "who would win between batman and superman"? Yeah, so in communities where people really get into those sorts of hypothetical matchups, it's very common to see Metroman winning against... almost anyone. Not quite everyone, but most people just really underestimate how absurdly powerful that super-speed scene makes him. When he goes and "clears his head" in a single frame. He's EASILY in another league from most superheroes/supervillains that people often want to... Pitt him against.
YES YES YES!
This is the second dreamworks movie Brad Pitt has done. The first was Sinbad with him playing Sinbad
2:17 You mention Adam Sandler here, and that’s an obvious choice because of the SNL connection, but Tom Hanks and Robin Williams did the goofy comedian to acclaimed dramatic actor pipeline before Ferrell or Sandler. Tom Hanks’ output was all comedies before he won repeat Best Actor Oscars for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, and Robin Williams had been nominated for the award multiple times throughout the 90s before finally winning Best Supporting for Good Will Hunting.
I love when holdens like “oh no he’s dead 👀” gets me every time lol
unfortunately, I think as to why Megamind never got a sequel and didn't do so good was because it was competing with despicable me that came out that same year.
This movie have a lot in common with the comic "Superman : Red son".
Megamind is a good example of adult humor and themes thrown into a kids movie. I really love it. Another movie you might like that shares a similar vibe to this movie is "Monsters vs Aliens". It's silly and goofy, but overall, just a fun watch.
@HoldenJenHardman_TeIegrqm please stop pretending to be Holden.
Imma have to get used to holden sitting on the right now😂 good thing I knew he was on the right in friends watching for first time
I loved playing that X-Men arcade game growing up! I’m so jealous
Too bad this isn't a Disney movie because I'd love to see Mega Mind in Ralph's Villains Support Group.
Great reaction as always, love Megamind, may I highly recommend Superman/ Batman public enemies and Superman all star both awesome if u haven’t seen them yet ❤❤😅

HAL STEWART = HAL JORDAN AND JOHN STEWART
For another villain turned hero animated story you should show Jen, Wreck-It Ralph. I absolutely adore that movie I prolly watched it 300 times as a kid and it has great video game references.
Man if only they made a sequel. That’d be pretty great. Especially with the same cast…and same quality…and one that makes sense…and one that doesn’t SUUUUUUUUUUCK
They actually recently announced a sequel is finally coming
THERE NEVER WAS A MEGAMIND 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love, love, love, love! The X-Men stand up arcade game in the background. My favorite game at the arcade growing up. Holden, I think you and I would have been friends as kids.
This movie is soooo good sucks they NEVER came out with a sequel, surely it would be just as good
